10 places to visit your favorite TV shows and films in 2023

As we’re still experiencing the buzz from awards season, see where you can experience some of your favorite scenes from the biggest and trendiest films and TV shows of the past year.

From the Sicilian beaches of The White Lotus to the coin laundry in Everything Everywhere All at Once, here are 10 filming locations that you can add to your travel bucket list this year.

With golden beaches, Baroque towns, and dreamy vibes, Sicily is the perfect Italian getaway. It’s also the backdrop of the second season of The White Lotus, a hit black comedy-drama that follows the messy misadventures of the mega-rich.

The San Domenico Palace (the real-life White Lotus resort) is at the center of it all. Perched on a clifftop, the luxe hotel offers gorgeous views of Mount Etna and the ocean. And yes, you can book a room.

Beyond the hotel, you can explore other iconic filming locations in Taormina. Start at the Ancient Theater, a massive Greek amphitheater that was built in the third century BC (you can watch concerts there too). Then grab some gelato and stroll over to Corso Umberto, the town’s vibrant main street. If you’re in the mood to roam around volcanic vineyards, join this private wine-tasting tour.

Although the show takes place in the U.S., this province in Canada sets the stage for The Last of Us, a post-apocalyptic TV series based on the hit video game of the same name. The story revolves around two survivors who try to save humanity after a deadly fungal outbreak.

Wander around Downtown Calgary or Edmonton in Alberta, and you’ll spot familiar sights like the Calgary Courts Center and the Alberta Legislature Building, where Tess receives the terrifying ‘kiss of death’.

Canmore is another must-visit. Portrayed as Tommy’s settlement, this magical mountain town is a favorite among The Last of Us cast. The best time to go is from June to August when temps are warm and pleasant—perfect for all kinds of outdoor activities. Don’t miss Waterton Lakes National Park, too. Here, Ellie takes the lead and fights to survive the frigid winter on her own. In reality, however, this beautiful park is a great year-round destination for hiking.

Although Wednesday, Netflix’s recent spin-off of The Addams Family, is set in Jericho, Vermont, most of the filming actually took place in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

The interiors of the iconic neo-gothic Nevermore Academy were filmed in the historic houses of Casa Niculescu-Dorobantu and Palatul Monteoru. The latter is located along the historic Calea Victoriei and you can even grab a cocktail and party in its gardens. A two-hour drive from Bucharest will bring you to Cantacuzino Castle, which served as the exterior of Nevermore. You can visit the castle, and even see art and sculpture exhibitions.

The greenhouse scenes were shot in the Bucharest Botanical Garden. This 18-hectare garden is home to lots of towering pine trees, a lily pond, and a herb garden—popular among locals for a relaxing day out.

Black Panther is one of the most groundbreaking superhero films in recent times, and its sequel, Wakanda Forever, is no different.

While most of the two movies were filmed in studios, there are a few locations in Atlanta that you can visit: the High Museum of Art, where Erik Kilmonger steals a vibranium weapon in the first film, and City Hall, which appeared in the post-credit scene. A 30-minute drive away is Bouckaert Farm in Chattahoochee Hills, the backdrop for the battle between the Dora Milaje and Border Tribe.

Can’t get enough? Head to Mary Ross Waterfront Park in Brunswick, where some ship and underwater scenes in Wakanda Forever were shot. Roam around the scenic park, and swing by the farmer’s market for fresh seasonal produce.

Bonus: If you’re looking for a slice of the real Wakanda, head to Argentina and visit the dazzling Iguazu Falls—better known as the iconic Warrior Falls. You won’t see any combat rituals in real life, but you can get up close on a high-speed boat ride. Just remember to pack a change of clothes!

Directed by Martin McDonagh, The Banshees of Inisherin is a dark comedy about friendship. Or more specifically, the abrupt end of one…and the disastrous consequences that ensue.

While Inisherin may be a fictional island, Inishmore isn’t. It’s the largest of the Aran Islands in Galway County—filled with dramatic landscapes like sprawling green fields and ancient settlements. Eagle-eyed viewers would immediately recognize Dún Aonghasa, a famous stone fort that's right outside Pádraic and Siobhán’s cottage.

To get to Inishmore, take a ferry cruise from Galway. And if you're looking to make the most of your Irish vacay, go on a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher. The vertical cliffs and surrounding blue waters may not be in the movie, but we promise they’re just as impressive.

The second-largest Greek island served as a major filming location for two-time Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund’s satirical comedy, Triangle of Sadness. In the film, a luxury cruise and what’s left of its wealthy guests and crew are stranded on a deserted island—shot on Chiliadou Beach on Euboea Island.

Awarded the Best European Film Location of 2022 by the European Film Commission Network, this pebble beach has lush greenery, high mountains, rocky landscapes, and even secret caves. Chiliadou Beach is especially popular with campers, and there’s also a nude section on the shore. Go early during summer to snag a good spot, when the beach often sees bigger crowds.

An hour and a half drive from Chiliadou Beach is Khalkis (or Chalcis), the main town of Euboea. Here, you can visit top sights like Karababa Castle, The Red House, and the Bridge of Khalkis, where you can see an interesting tidal phenomenon: the change of water direction every six hours.

Many important scenes of The Fabelmans, a coming-of-age drama film loosely inspired by director Steven Spielberg’s younger days, were shot in Los Angeles. Swing by Zuma Beach—where Sammy films the senior class ditch day—for its clean shores and great surf.

The theater in the film is the iconic Orpheum Theater—you can take a walking tour and get an insider look into its interiors and interesting history. Fun fact: The theater has hosted the filming of America’s Got Talent too!

The bustling port city of South Korea is known for its beaches, temples, and fresh seafood. It’s also where much of Decision to Leave, a 2022 South Korean hit romantic mystery film, was shot. This award-winning movie follows a gripping love story between a detective and his suspect.

Hit the streets of Choryang-dong where detective Hae-jun chased his suspect through bustling streets and up the iconic 168 Stairs. You can climb to the top of this six-story-high staircase or hop on a monorail at the bottom for fantastic views of Busan Port at the top.

Relive the budding romance between Hae-jun and Seo-rae at Songgwangsa Temple in Suncheon, a two-hour drive from Busan. Also featured is Geumjeongsan Mountain, which has a variety of trails that are suitable for hikers of all levels. Stop by Beomeosa Temple and Geumjeong Fortress along your way up, and enjoy panoramic views of Busan at the peak.

Many iconic movies have been filmed in the Italian capital of Rome, and now Fast X, the latest installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, takes the high-speed chases through iconic streets of the city.

The trailer features Vin Diesel standing in front of the ancient Colosseum, and other Roman sites like Ponte Umberto I and Giuseppe Garibaldi Square. You can explore the Colosseum on a guided tour which will bring you to areas that are typically not open to the public.

The film was also shot in Genzano, a Castelli Romani town an hour’s drive from central Rome, and along the streets of Via Bruno Buozzi and Via Italo Belardi. Summer is a great time to visit—don’t miss the yearly Infiorata Flower Festival in June when stunning flower carpets cover the town's streets.

The 2022 Oscar Best International Feature Film Drive My Car follows the journey of a grief-stricken theater director. It was filmed entirely in Japan, and mostly in Hiroshima prefecture.

You would have seen the film’s iconic red Saab car zipping through a suspension bridge—that’s the Akinada Bridge which you can visit for stunning views of the surrounding islands. Other filming locations include the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park (where the theater performers rehearsed) and Hiroshima Orizuru Tower (where the crew filmed the car driving along Aioi-dori Avenue).

Book a room at Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima—the hotel where Yusuke stayed at—for magnificent views of the Hiroshima Port and the Seto Inland Sea. You can even get access to the hotel’s private pier. Also, keep your eyes peeled for the outdoor lobby where Misaki often waits with the red Saab.

The iconic laundromat owned by the Asian immigrant family in Everything Everywhere All at Once is real and you can actually visit it.
