The Lycian Way: Savour stunning sea views, remote ancient sites and fantastic side trails
Considered Türkiye’s original long-distance trekking route, the 760 kilometer Lycian Way follows Roman roads, ancient footpaths and mule trails along the Mediterranean coastline, offering an incredible blend of cultural treasures, pristine nature and spectacular ocean vistas. Its starting point, Ölüdeniz, is a scenic, 60 minute transfer from Dalaman, with numerous trail highlights to discover along the first section alone.
Don’t miss paragliding from Babadağ Mountain for unbeatable views of the famed blue lagoon. Spend a few days exploring the accessible day treks around Fethiye, where vast vistas over the sea, sailboats and islands await. Camp overnight in Butterfly Valley, a lushly-vegetated gorge, home to hundreds of rare and endemic butterfly species. And trek through the deserted ruins of Tlos, a fascinating ancient settlement that seems untouched by time. For those with a few weeks to spare, continuing along the entire route—ending in Geyikbayırı, at the easternmost part of the Dalaman hinterland—offers a bucket-list journey of epic proportions.

The Carian Trail: Follow in the footsteps of Alexander the Great through wonderfully-diverse terrain
Rich in ancient ruins and unspoiled landscapes, the 800 kilometer Carian Trail passes through some of the least-known areas of Southwest Türkiye, taking intrepid explorers on an awesome journey through the natural and cultural wonders of the Dalaman Region. From remote mountain villages to dramatic coastline, pine forest to almond groves, its network of centuries-old mule paths and stone paved caravan roads—some said to have been laid by Alexander the Great himself—offer an incredibly varied backdrop, with unparalleled views across deserted bays to the Greek islands of the South Aegean.
Discover the delights of the Datça peninsula (two hours from Dalaman) where wild mountain goats still roam through vast forests, filled with rare and endemic plant species. Continue east to the Bozburun and Loryma peninsulas, dotted with secluded coves and fascinating Caria ruins, including the ancient city of Amos. And spend an extra few days exploring the trail’s ending point in and around the Bay of Marmaris (60 minutes from Dalaman), where an excellent network of road, mountain and e-bike routes beckon you onwards.
Whether you tackle its entire length or a single section, you’ll soon discover why the Carian Trail is one of Türkiye’s best kept secrets.
