About
This tour is a traditional tea picking experience of green tea in Sayama in Saitama Prefecture located northwest of Tokyo,
It is a one day tour for a limited time from May to November where you can enjoy the walking along the old town in Kawagoe where traditional townscapes remain.
The Sayama Hills are located in the western part of Saitama Prefecture. It is the origin of "Sayama Tea". Sayama tea is regarded as one of Japan's three major teas alongside Shizuoka tea and Uji tea, and because of its northern location, the leaves produce a deep taste after fighting through the cold winters.
Kawagoe flourished as a castle town from the 17th century, and was often compared to Edo (present day Tokyo). Because of this, it came to be called "small Edo". The first area where the buildings were erected is known as the "townscape of the storehouses", a site that was seen less and less in Edo Tokyo.

- cbB5809KU0 contributionsAmazing tour and guide!Azusa was great! She met us in the lobby of our hotel (The Knot) and was ready to go. She was very knowledgeable of the areas/site and history and worked with our schedule. She translated our needs to the local vendors to assist with purchases. The tour was seamless! We had to end early and she was kind enough to take us to the Shinkansen line to catch our train back to Tokoyo. I would definitely recommend her!Written 16 January 2025
- somjl0 contributionsFantastic Tour with Motoko – Highly Recommended! We had an absolutely fabulous day touring Osaka, Hiroshima, and Miyajima with Motoko as our guide. Despite the cold weather, we were lucky to experience a bit of snow, which added a magical touch to the day. Motoko's warm and engaging personality made the entire experience even more special. Her deep knowledge of the local history and temples was truly insightful, and we learned so much while exploring these beautiful locations. She shared fascinating stories and cultural details that brought the sites to life. One of the highlights of the day was the incredible lunch of local oysters and okonomiyaki – both were absolutely delicious and gave us a real taste of the region's culinary delights. Motoko's company was lovely throughout, and we genuinely enjoyed every moment with her. We would wholeheartedly recommend her as a guide to anyone looking to explore these areas. Thank you so much, Motoko, for an unforgettable experience!Written 13 January 2025

- 685cated0 contributionsAmazing morning in historic TokyoThis tour was awesome! Our guide Kiyo walked us through parts of Tokyo we never would have explored otherwise. She showed us temples, shrines, monuments, and quieter parts of town. She also gave us great insights into Japanese history and culture! We did this on our first day in Japan, and the knowledge Kiyo provided set us up well for the rest of the trip. We learned so many interesting gems of information- most not covered on other tours. Kiyo was also very adaptable and willing to cater to our needs. She didn't mind us taking a break to get some coffee, or spending a little time wandering through stores. We almost felt like locals for the morning! I can't recommend this tour enough! Kiyo is a fantastic guide and her tours are educational and engaging!Written 4 January 2025
- paulaE634ZI0 contributionsJapanese calligraphy experience in Tokyo with Calligraphy MasterWe had the incredible opportunity to participate in a Japanese calligraphy session in Tokyo, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and guided through the process with care and enthusiasm. The teacher explained the basics of the art form in an engaging and easy-to-understand way, which immediately captured our interest. We had the chance to try it ourselves, following the step-by-step guidance provided. What stood out to us was the teacher’s patience and encouragement. Every stroke we made was met with constructive and positive feedback, which boosted our confidence and made the learning process both enjoyable and rewarding. By the end of the session, we had not only learned the foundational techniques but also created our own calligraphy pieces, which we were proud of! This experience gave us a newfound appreciation for the beauty, mindfulness, and creativity involved in Japanese calligraphy. We highly recommend this session to anyone visiting Tokyo. It’s a wonderful way to connect with Japanese culture, explore creativity as a group, and leave with meaningful memories and art to treasure! 🌸✨Written 3 January 2025

- robertamX4965GQ0 contributionsAbsolutely number ONE visit in Japan 🇯🇵Absolutely awesome experience. It was number one ☝️ place that mum and I loved to go in Japan. One of the most memorable places we visited. Very easy and comfortable access using the local trains and the whole way to make it was absolutely enjoyable. The comforting atmosphere, the beautiful views and the friendly Japanese people made us feel so welcome. We also had the better guide where we highly recommend. Extremely friendly he guided us with care (specially with my mum) on the slippery path towards to see the monkeys. During our walk we share the awesome views of the white mountains 🏔️ along with the local culture history. On the way back Tamio share with us more about Japanese culture and guided us to one of the great traditional Japanese restaurant where we could experienced and explore the cuisine tasting “hot sake”, fried tofu and other delicious dishes. Thank you so much Tamio for showing us a bit more of your amazing culture and for the amazing experience in Japan.Written 23 December 2024

What an unforgettable experience! The tour immersed us in the beauty of the Japanese countryside. And the tea master patiently guided us through every step of our tea-making journey with care and dedication.
Hearing his story and tapping into his vast insider knowledge was not just inspiring but transformative as well. It gave us a whole new perspective and made us fall in love with the entire process.
And then, the city tour with our guide, Kaori, was the perfect finishing touch! Her passion about Japanese culture is contagious, and her warm, engaging approach made the experience feel not only authentic but utterly magical.
I would suggest this tour to anyone who wants to dive into the Japanese lifestyle in an unconventional way.

We had a great time exploring Kawagoe and green tea picking. Rie was a wonderful guide that made exploring this area relaxing! The places we went to were very accommodating to people who didn’t know Japanese and were lugging around a 6month old! There were so many places to explore and definitely would want to go back.

Our family really enjoyed this tour. Great way to learn about tea making and history of the little Edo neighborhood. Our tour guide, Yumi, was excellent. She was very open to our suggestions and changes to the schedule. She did a lot of preparations in advance to make the tour interesting and educational for my children. I highly recommend this tour.
