        5 great days in Lesotho
We had a wonderful time in Lesotho, viewing the fantastic mountains, meet the friendly people, experienced their Culture life and on top- we had the best driver and tour guide one could ever have. Mo knew everything and inspired us with his knowledge.

Super Trip With an Excellent Company
My wife and I had a fantastic day on the extended tour into Lesotho. Going up the Sanni Pass was something we really wanted to do and we had made a special trip to stay in Underberg. Our guide Moiloa (Peter) was excellent, and it was great that he was born in Lesotho himself. Despite both of us being horse-riders, we were glad we chose the extended cultural experience, instead of the riding, as we gained a greater insight into rural life in the country. We were picked up and dropped off from our accommodation and, the next day, the company owner came back with my hat which I had left on the vehicle, having chased the vehicle part way up the pass. Such customer service was impressive, and I would fully recommend Roof of Africa tours. A brillant experience All round !

        Top birding with Mo
We enjoyed a day of birding up Sani Pass and quite deep into Lesotho with Mo. He was great fun and knew his birds. We found pretty much all of our target species and the guiding was high quality

        Amazing experience!
My husband and I went on a weekend tour to Lesotho with Roof of Africa back in September. I am very late in writing this review but we had a wonderful and very unique experience on our tour with Roof of Africa that I have to share. The night before we were set to go there was a large snow storm, we were told a storm that large in September had not happened since 1997! Off the bat they were accommodating and helpful. Due to the snow we changed our pickup plan the night before and they did not hesitate to ensure we were safe and comfortable. Our guide, Sandile, was the hero of the weekend. He took every curve ball the weather threw at us in stride. Due to the weather we were unable to reach Emile for almost the entire weekend. Sandile worked with us to make sure we were comfortable with each modification we made to the original plan. When we reached Sani Pass we learned that, due to the snow, it was closed and we would not be able to drive through the border. Sandile worked tirelessly to reach Emile and was finally able to from The Highest Pub in Africa. We had a flight to catch very early the next day so it was imperative that we made it down Sani Pass that day. Sandile and Emile were able to work out a plan to get us down, they even worked with the border agents to ensure we were able to pass through the border. We were to walk the first 2 kilometers of the pass that was snowy and impassable by car and Emile would drive the 6 kilometers that was drivable and pick us up. Not only did he make it up higher than initially expected to meet us but he was able to make it to the top to open the pass for the other travelers waiting to drive down. Roof of Africa went more than above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful time and made it back in time for our flight. We booked a tour through a different company (only because it’s in another part of Africa where Roof of Africa doesn’t operate) and the experience was nowhere near as good as we had with Roof of Africa so it’s safe to say their team is qualified and unique in their skills to ensure a safe and wonderful experience. It’s clear that they only hire the best which makes their tours well worth the price, my husband and I both work in customer service based jobs and we both felt like Sandile, Emile and the whole team cared about us and cared that we enjoyed our experience with them. They are an incredible team and we will most certainly book with them again given the opportunity.

Fantastic 4 day tour of Lesotho
Fantastic 4 day tour of Lesotho! It was just perfect, the country is so so beautiful, the kingdom of the skies indeed. Peter, our guide, was amazing, friendly, nice, and knowledgeable. We learnt so much! The accommodation was great, so was the itinerary. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be able to repeat?

        Not to miss!!
Amazing day trip to the Sani Pass from Himeville and into Lesotho. The views were just spectacular, the drive up the twisty dirt road very exciting, and we got to learn a lot about the Lesotho culture and people. And let's not forget a nice lunch in the highest pub of Africa! Our guide Sandile was an excellent driver, who always made us feel safe and taken care of.

        Spectacularly awesome!!
We did a custom trip from Underberg through Lesotho and returned through Sani Pass back to Himeville. It was a 5 day 4 night tour and it was fantastic!!!! Mondi and Peter were our guides and they surpassed even our highest hopes. They were always attentive to any needs we had and had extensive knowledge of the history, people, birds and plants that we saw. The entire trip was awesome and Emile and Britany were both very helpful and accommodating throughout the booking and execution of the trip. It is a trip of a lifetime that we HIGHLY recommend!

BEST experience with BEST guide from the BEST Roof of Africa Tours
What a glorious day on the Sani Pass tour with Peter as our guide, and it was an unforgettable experience! Peter was an amazing host, going above and beyond to ensure our family of five, including two elderly members (one with a walking frame), felt welcome and comfortable throughout the tour. His knowledge and passion for the region's history, culture, and natural beauty were impressive, and he presented it in a way that was engaging and easy to understand. Peter's patience and kindness towards our elderly family members were particularly noteworthy, making sure they could fully participate and enjoy the tour without feeling rushed or left behind. The scenery, of course, was breathtaking, and Peter's expertise brought it all to life. We couldn't have asked for a better guide or a more enjoyable experience. Highly recommend this tour and Peter as your guide! 5 stars isn't enough - we'd give it 10 stars if we could!

        Great informative tour of Lesotho
The #1 rating of this company is well deserved. I did the Lesotho Overnight tour from Durban to Mokhotlong. Had an amazing experience thanks in large part to my guide/driver Mondli who speaks Sesotho. Visited a mountain Basotho village, a traditional healer and chatted with mountain shepherds and local workers. I got the cultural experience I had sought and then some. I highly recommend this tour, specifically with Mondli, as he is well established and known to the locals. We traveled in a fantastic 4WD vehicle and stayed at the lovely El Paso Guesthouse (great room and restaurant meals).

Roof of Africa offered just what we were looking for in a Lesotho tour…and then some!
Roof of Africa’s owners (Emil and Britney) exceeded our tour expectations on all counts. We are two retired senior women who were curious about exploring Lesotho’s natural beauty, history and people at our own pace. From our first contact to our final day of the tour, Emil and Britney meticulously coordinated our trip development and tour progress. Other than the positive reviews we read on Trip Advisor, we knew next to nothing about Roof of Africa and Lesotho. But Emil worked patiently with us to develop a nine day Lesotho tour, with immediate and detail feedback to all our questions. The trip experience was greatly enhanced by our Guide Peter who opened our eyes to his country as he (safely) drove us around Lesotho. Peter, being a Lesotho native, served as a conversational conduit for us as we interacted with the people of Lesotho. Peter, with obviously no shortage of experience in “reading” tourists, discussed with us on a daily basis our activity and culinary preferences and options. He generously shared his impressive knowledge about Lesotho’s wildlife, history and people. The last two days of the tour we opted to luxuriate in a safari reserve going on exciting wildlife drives and eating dreamy meals. The Driver (sadly I don’t remember his name) gave us a very interesting Durban tour before driving us to our hotel in Underburg. Some of the Durban tour options initially appeared touristy to us but that did not end up being the case…Durban’s Phansi museum, Muthi trade market and the Mandela Capture Site Museum are not to be missed.

        Awesome experience!
We did a 4 day, 3 night tour of Lesotho and it was amazing! Our guide was Mondli (Mo). Mo was a very professional, punctual, knowledgeable guide and a skilled driver. We felt safe driving with him through the beautiful but rugged, very high, Sani Pass and other mountainous Lesotho terrain. He taught us a lot about the wildlife and the history and culture of the area and we enjoyed some interesting conversations. Mo also respected our needs and interests while still following the planned itinerary. The tour itself is definitely worthwhile and introduces one to the breathtaking landscape and unique culture of Lesotho. The accommodations and food were good , especially El Paso and our favorite, Semonkong with its cozy restaurant, delicious food and fireplaces in bedrooms. One thing to note, depending on where you begin and end your tour, drives can be quite long. They were longer than we had expected and if we had known we may have scheduled an overnight in Underberg as opposed to heading back to Durban which made for close to a nine hour drive. Also beware at the border! We had an issue with how our passport had been stamped (whether we had the correct visitors permit or not), which caused confusion and was an issue we had to deal with on the remainder of our trip.

The tour was great! The views were beautifully scenic. We passed through a smaller town and experienced a performance of Basotho women in a village. Our guide Mondli (or Moe) clearly explained the region's history and geography. We enjoyed him pointing out the flora and fauna along the way. We are especially impressed by his knowledge and bird spotting ability where he points out local and interesting species that we would have definitely missed.

      Beautiful land; beautiful people.
Husband arranged the Tour which started on time as Mondli picked us up from our accomodation, at the furthest, most remote address in Underberg. Warmed to Mondli straight away and this continued as the day progressed.
Knowledge of the area, of driving the pass, settling us into each part of this adventure -.wonderful. We stopped to enjoy the views and learned a lot about this land.
Passport control was dealt with efficiently and we journeyed to the Highest Pub in Africa. Good toilets/facilities and the aroma of pizza welcomed us.
The journey on into Lesotho included visits to two villages
In the first, we had songs and dancing and got to know the residents. In the second, John sampled the locally brewed beer.
We had a nice picnic lunch, cold drinks and a second cup of coffee.
We dropped into the pub again, this time for drinks.
Mondli was a wonderful guide. He helped us out as we had lost our travel adaptor, and kindly stopped on the way back so we could buy essentials- everything needed for a braii. He was a brilliant representative for his community and an incredibly nice and intelligent person. John enjoyed their conversation.

I would recommend this trip to anyone and would do it again anytime.

The day was well planned. The vehicle was clean and well maintained. Our guide, Elias was amazing, a real raconateur, recounting historical battles and facts about the area with great skill. We enjoyed the coffee stop on the way, and the cultural experience. It was a trip worth taking. We would highly recommend it.

THANK YOU EMILE for the excellent tour up Sani Pass. The tour was thoroughly enjoyed, and your 'entertaining knowledge sharing' , your patience and your superb driving skills was impressive. We commend you for your high level of service which makes Roof of Africa Tours highly recommended. Having fun in the snow was the highlight (this is now ticked off from my wife's bucket list ). We commend you for your service excellence and certainly look forward to another tour with you in the future.

Right from the start of the enquiry process, through to booking and on the day the customer service was BRILLIANT. Emile was super helpful - when we had an issue with our hotel the night before our trip he gave us local information that was really useful. This was the only tour we booked from the UK and so a lot was resting on it. We had a superb day.
Even though we had a 4 wheel vehicle we were so pleased that we didn't drive ourselves. Our driver guide was very knowledgeable, he spoke good English and was very conscientious.
The scenery is amazing and so different on either side of the pass. We chose to go on a horse ride from a village and it was great. Although the horses were "bomb proof" as they have to be, the route was interesting, up a hill, through a river etc. Wonderful.
Thank you Emile and Roof of Africa Tours for a memorable day

We would like to thank Peter for the very informative tour and bring us down safely . He is so polite and patient. With tour guides like him we could definitely increase tourism here and be proud of people like him to fly our flag. He’s a gem take care of him. Kids also loved the ride with him. He was also glad and happy to receive info from my daughter whose an engineer and knew about the construction works at the pass. So was a good day for all 🙏💝Thank you Roof of Africa

Our very nice guide could tell us a lot about the nature and the culture of both South Africa and Lesotho. During the tour he always made an effort to explain and show us the animals and nature of the sani pass. He payed a lot of attention to our personal interests and adapted the tour accordingly. We arrived in Lesotho smoothly due to his safe driving and preparations for the border control. In Lesotho we visited the highest pub in Africa and a village, where we learned a lot about their culture and enjoyed the great view of the Drakensberg. Our guide was also very flexible with our dietary requirements and prepared a delicious vegetarian lunch for us.

OMG! What a fantastic day in Lesotho with Roof of Africa Tours! I am gobsmacked by the beauty & history but also the promise of their future! Our guide, Mondli (or Mo) was top notch A++ 110% awesome! His knowledge of the local area of Underberg & Himeville along with his extensive insight on Lesotho & its people was so insightful. Even fauna & flora. So happy & helpful. The tour was tastefully done & opened up another world with visits to a local village including songs & crafts, sheep shearing station, bread / beer hut & delicious homemade lunch by the river. Cannot fault. Heartfelt thanks to Mo, Emile & Sandile for making it happen after a mishap with dual-citizenship passports….be sure to take the one stamped! Phew! Lesson learned! But WOW…a must do day trip…wish we had more time to enjoy & explore! It was truly a memory I will hold dear. Once again…TOP NOTCH! *****

The day was a highlight of our trip. Highly recommend this tour operator. The tour guide/driver was knowledgable and a very good driver. We had confidence in his skills negotiating the exciting pass. The vehicle was comfortable and pleasantly spacious. Views were breath taking! The local village offers some pleasant refreshments, yum yum. Booking and payment was easy and hassle free- no endless paperwork but good efficient forms that covered all the relevant information needed. All in all a great experience!
