About
This hidden gem nightlife tour will show you a side of Shibuya that tourists never see. Step back into history and visit spots and have experiences that locals have enjoyed for decades! Visit drinking and dining stalls that are hiding in plain sight. Learn about the culture of Tachinomi bars (Tachinomi are Japanese standing bars (“tachi” meaning stand, “nomi” meaning drink), try some of the best local Ramen at a favorite shop that has stood the test of time– serving local fans for over 60 years! Then wind your way along back streets and head over to our hidden gem izakaya (Japanese pub) wonderland where your guide will help you enjoy some of the best local dishes and drinks with a retro atmosphere like nothing you’ve seen before. Choose your own sake, beer, or special mixed drinks at this spot. Finally, have a dessert experience that you will never forget. Your inner child will have so much fun, but we can’t tell you much here as we don’t want to spoil the surprise!

Keiko made this tour! She was such a fun host that took us to so many places to try adventurous and delicious foods. She was so sweet and took so many fun pictures along the way for us to remember the experience. The group was so nice and we actually made friends with everyone on the tour, so it made for a really fun night! Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking to try some of Japan's classic dishes as well as some adventurous ones!

YAY Thank you for the kind review, means so much to us. Kay loves to show people her passion for Japan and Japanese food, she is a real super star. Many guests comment that the group tours are a great way to make new friends and we are so glad you enjoyed the food. Your review will help other guests find our Tokyo Food Tours and we hope you can join us again someday, maybe in Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima where we also have great foodie adventures.

Great tour
Hoppy our guide was amazing
Went above our expectations
Arranged amazing tour and considered our food restrictions amazingly, 1 vegetarian and one person allergic to fish and seafood. Arranged vegan ramen, that was very tasty, arranged main course at an very special bar , the size of a thimble but very tasty and true Japanese food experience. Even managed to talk use Into trying narto , witch we would not of done on our own .

Amazing tour of the local spots for food and drink around the Shibuya area. Shibuya is quite touristy, but our guide definitely took us off the beaten path. Asami is a very fun, outgoing person and speaks English very well. Probably the highlight was her taking us to a 'Dagashi Bar' - literally a 'candy bar'. All you can eat candy and then booze! We would never in a million years thought something like this existed! Thanks so much Asami and Arigato Tours!

Had a private tour (just the two of us) with tour guide Satoshi last night. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but this experience blew us away. Satoshi spoke excellent English so there was no language barrier at all. He took us to very small hidden places usually only visited by locals. He was very accommodating asking about our likes and dislikes before ordering. We are both the adventurous type so we gave him free reign in ordering whatever he felt is best. Everything was super delicious including the raw chicken. In addition to the food it was fascinating to learn all about Japanese food culture, chop stick etiquette and the social drinking norms. Can’t recommend this tour highly enough.

Kirsty did an amazing job as hostess. She gave us us lots of cool information about the Shibuya area of Tokyo. We visited 5 or 6 different restaurants from sushi to wagyu on a stick. Great stuff!

We had Kay as our guide and she was very friendly and very knowledgeable. We visited a number of establishments we would have otherwise had difficulty in finding. Some of the food we tasted was very unique. One dish I would never have in my home country (or ever again most likely) but it is a story to tell back home! We have since revisited one of the establishments to eat at again, it was that good. Thanks Kay for a memorable experience!

I had the most wonderful evening exploring Shibuya and eating and drinking and learning about Japan. Our tour guide Asami was really energetic, funny and friendly as she explained so many interesting deets about Japanese culture and etiquettes. It felt like having a friend bringing me around Shibuya... I love the spots that they took us to, especially the last one (won't spoil it for the rest of you, but yeah it was a treat!!!). I would recommend this to frequent Japan travellers who want to discover more of Japan (and Shibuya in particular). Also for solo travellers, this is a great way to get to know people - and the friendly guides!

Our guide Asami was friendly and very knowledgable about Tokyo food culture, and she explained things really well. Even though I've lived in Tokyo for many years I learned a lot of new things and enjoyed exploring places I may not have checked out on my own.

There was a great mix of food and Asami gave us a great balance of food that was new and maybe challenging for some, as well as some of the classics. We enjoyed everything from shoyu ramen and gyoza to natto omelets and unique cocktails. She was excited to share everything with us and her enthusiasm was infectious!

The whole evening was wonderful, but the cherry on top was checking out classic Japanese snacks and treats, nostalgic for most Japanese people but a novelty for most tourists.

All in all it was a great experience and a superb tour for those who want to experience a deeper side of Shibuya.

The retro Shibuya tour was an excellent way to taste and visit places we would have miss otherwise. Our tour guide Kay was very energetic and always helpful explaining cool facts about each place and Japanese culture. It’s definitely a must try experience! And the food was so tasty!
