      insulted and disappointed
Dear tourists, i won't recommend you to buy tickets or have any contacts with this flagrant service. We booked a sumo training experience in advance and had the most awful exp ever in Japan. We are used to respect in this wonderful country but this attitude ruined everything. The situation: three months before the trip to Tokyo we booked tickets to sumo training, there was only one option of tickets and the notice that children are allowed on responsibility of parents that they wont shout. We have two kids 6 y.o. and 1,5 y.o. I want to note that in most causes you don't pay for kids till 7 y.o., unless otherwise stated. This day we came on the meeting with the group to go on this occasion (we had to wake up at 6 a.m. and ride 1,5 hours on the metro). The leader of the group from the very begginnig started to behave himself rudely, at first he arqued with other family, who had a booking on this date, but he told them, that he arbitrarily changed the dates and they have to come in a week !!!!! For people, who are on holidays in Japan its a big deal (this people were from France), so this people just had to go away( they payed 200$!!).. Than he started to talk to us in a very rough way, that we payed only for two adults, more people not allowed, we had to asked about it before. That our 1,5 daughter, that was in sling is also a person and he doesnt believe that she will stay silent ( during this conversation she wanted to sleep so stayed calm). Than he started to shout on us in the presence of our children.. it was awfull situation and we just go away.... this guy is absolutly stunning and disrestpectful and he ruined my dream to visit sumo training in Japan. I dont know if i will ever go to Japan again, cause this trip was really expensive. Shame on this organisation.

      Fun & Informative
A fun and entertaining way to learn about Sumo. Simple booking process, easy to find the Sumo Stable. Knowing almost nothing about Sumo it was beneficial to do this prior to going to the Sumo tournament. Highly recommend

      Fantastic Experience
It can be very difficult if not downright impossible and sometimes risky to get sumo tix from the US. So glad a friend recommended BuySumoTickets to me. From the beginning everything went so smoothly. Great communication and when my hotel threw in a curve ball, BuySumoTickets had a solution ready. Oh also, they offer a new "Sumo VIP experience" and it was the greatest. Meeting and even wrestling with real sumo wrestlers was amazing. Made it a highlight day for sure. I recommend without reservation using BST. I'll be using them again soon.

The VIP Sumo Event was well worth attending. Instructions about what to wear, where to go, what to do etc were very clear and concise, and we enjoyed every minute of the experience. We would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting Japan with an interest in sumo.

Highly recommend the VIP Sumo Event — entertaining, informative and very atmospheric. We didn’t know much about Sumo beforehand so this was a terrific way to learn about the basics of the sport, watch a couple of real Sumo demonstrate moves, and then ask them (through a translator) questions about their sport and their own stories. There’s even an opportunity to ‘suit up’, get in the ring for a mock bout to spar with the pros. Photo opportunities and laughs galore.

The event is held in the same neighbourhood as the Sumo stadium in Tokyo, with the organisers sending out several sets of clear and detailed directions prior to the event. Communication and guidance was first rate. They even provided refreshments and a souvenir. All this made it a delightful couple of hours that we will long remember.

We're glad that you had fun at our new Sumo VIP Event! We designed it for people who don't have any prior knowledge of sumo, so it's good to learn that we got that part right. Yes, lots of laughs and photo ops!

A really great experience. We had tickets to the sumo tournament later that day, so the explanations of the rules and tactics turned out to be helpful. And the "in the ring" experience is not to be missed. The wrestlers were great, and even went easy on the one guy (NOT in our party, but in the same session) who got a little too into it and ripped off his shirt when he jumped in the ring.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for the review! Yes, doing this in combination with going to the tournament is our recommended way of doing it. However, if tournament tickets aren't available, we think this event is a fun way to spend a morning!

If you actually are interested in sumo, I cannot recommend this experience. Every one have to make a living but I felt sorry for the wrestlers who were involve in this. It is sad that they reduce this ancient martial art to "fat suits".

I would love to know what is VIP about the tour, I didn't experience any VIP treatment neither. Please tell me what is VIP? If you are a tourist who comes to Japan to go to robot cafe and ride mario cart round Akihabara, maybe you love this kind of thing. Everyone else who has some level of RESPECT for the culture can pass on this one.

I actually feel so bad that someone might come to Japan and think this is a real representation of the sumo art and culture. Borderline insult.

Other people can love it and give 5 star ranking but this is MY OPINION and I don't like it at all.

I'm really sorry to read this feedback. First, regarding what is "VIP" about the event. We aren't the only business doing these events. We've seen some of them with large groups who can watch for a lower price than we charge, but then they have additional "VIP packages" you can buy that let you get into the ring for a photo opportunity and match with a wrestler. Our vision for our event is that we have smaller groups and everybody is a VIP. Everybody gets to go into the ring, everybody gets a chance to get their photo taken, everybody gets to ask a question. You didn't notice that you were being treated like a VIP because everybody in the group was the same, and you got more opportunities that you might get with other businesses. Regarding the "fat suit", as much as you might hate it, the venue staff love it. We didn't request it, and when it was first offered to us for use in our event, we turned down the offer. The owner, a former sumo wrestler, insisted that we use it. He had 2 reasons. First, in all of his experience, he knows that the guests love it (We now agree with him on that point). Second, it offers protection against cuts and scrapes if a guest goes down in the ring during the match, reducing the chance that somebody gets hurt. It would also keep their clothes clean in that case, as the base of the ring is dirt/sand. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but if the operators of the event, former sumo wrestlers, thought it was offensive to sumo, they wouldn't do it. Japanese people go to these events too, we have seen a group of tour buses pull up after our time with 200 Japanese people for a lunch show. Sumo wrestlers have personalities and don't always take themselves so seriously. Comic sumo is also a regular feature at non-tournament events like regional tours and retirement ceremonies, when 2 wrestlers make clowns of themselves in the ring. I do wonder why you booked the event. The photos we published show quite clearly what this event is. If it wasn't something you wanted to do, it would have been better to not book it instead of spending your money on something you hated and writing a bad review after.

The directions to find the meeting spot were very confusing - we walked around for 15 minutes trying to find where we supposed to meet and were on the verge of giving up when we finally stumbled onto the spot.

The tour guides English was heavily accented and I understood about 25 percent of what was said.

I had hoped to see actual Sumo wrestling, but what we got was a very touristy show about Sumo wrestling.

Deborah, I'm very sorry to read this feedback. Regarding the directions, your comments are the opposite of what every other person has told us about them. We give a link for both Google Maps and Apple Maps with the exact pin drop location of where to meet. If you click the link on any mobile device, you will be shown the meeting location within 3 metres. That is the best way to find us. We also provided directions from both of the 2 closest train stations, along with addresses in English and Japanese. I'm not sure how we could make the meeting location more clear, and the large majority of people arrive at the correct place on time. Regarding your feedback about what you were expecting, we are extremely clear on our site about what this event is and isn't. We have 6 photos of our event which do not show a sumo tournament. The description is 4 sentences only, and the final sentence is (capitals on the site): "DOES NOT INCLUDE A TICKET TO THE SUMO TOURNAMENT." I'm not sure how we could be more clear that this is a Sumo VIP Event activity and not the tournament. As for the feedback about the MC's accent, we'll take it into consideration, so thank you.

We had a great time at the VIP Sumo event. We learned a great deal and the videos of my son and I each wrestling with a Sumo wrestler will make my family laugh for years! We were lucky enough to be there during a tournament and went on to use our newfound knowledge to enjoy the sport, but I would recommend doing the VIP tour either way as it was a good way to learn and it was hilarious. The wrestlers they chose to teach us were kind, good spirited and very funny guys.

This was a fun and informative experience that I'd definitely recommend! The guides and retired sumo wrestlers were extremely friendly, fun, and made this an enjoyable time! Informative about their culture and the history of sumo, while paired with some fun interactive experiences that started our trip off on the right foot! Others in the group were headed to the sumo wrestling tournament after, and I'm sure their new found knowledge would help!

Helpful tip - the meeting place is under the train bridge at the sumo restaurant

This is a MUST do! What an experience. The people that run this company are very good at their job. They arranged for us to get our tickets and made it very easy and manageable. Additionally the Sumo VIP event should NOT be missed. It truly was one of our highlights off our trip. We will definitely be back.
