About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Ichschonwieder0 contributionsGreat Highland Tour with an Exceptional Guide! We had an amazing tour with a small group of six people, guided by the wonderful Mo. She picked us up right at the harbor entrance and later dropped us off there, making the whole experience seamless and stress-free. Mo was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights about Scotland, the Highlands, and each of the places we visited. She also answered every question we had, making the tour both informative and fun. We highly recommend Thistle Excursions to anyone looking for a memorable experience in Invergordon, especially when arriving with a cruise ship.Written 19 September 2024
- cardiganweather17880 contributionsHighland StapleMike gave us an excellent tour of Inverness, Urquart Castle and Loch Ness. We learned a lot about local history and saw some incredible scenery. The car ride and Mike's personable nature really made the trip special. He was able to customize some of our stops based on requests and interests. All stops were timed perfectly to avoid crowds and the conversation was genuine rather than uncomfortably forced for 8 hours. Highly recommend this tour company and request Mike as your guide if you can.Written 16 September 2024
- KThrelkeld0 contributionsThistle Tours Every TimeThis was the best tour of our 14 day cruise. Mike was our Guide and he definitely did not disappoint. I will use Thistle Tours every chance I get in the future. They are so much better than Paddywagon. Although Brian our Paddywagon Guide was great, their bus was worn out and the worst and no refunds for a broken down bus. Choose Thistle Tours and request Mike. You will be glad you did!Written 8 September 2024
- Noswalmot0 contributionsDeaf and BlindThe microphone on the bus didn’t work. The backup that the guide had echoed so bad we couldn’t understand stand him. The places we visited were uninspiring. It was a waste of time and money.Written 8 September 2024
- Michelle R0 contributionsGreatCarol Anne and Mo were great. Lots of information and kept us on time. It was a jam packed itinerary. We would have liked a little more time in InvernessWritten 27 August 2024
- B8325LFkathyr0 contributionsWe went to Glen Ord Singketon Distillery and Urqhardt Castle. We had a great time on our excursion. Lorraine, our guide, was very knowledgeable and helpful. I would book with Thistle Excursions again, anytime.Written 24 August 2024
- Adventure264053772870 contributionsNorth Highland TourWe had a wonderful day trip yesterday with Thistle Excursions. Our guide was Morag ( Sarah ) and she was so nice and answered all of our questions throughout the day. We first started our day enroute to the Singeltin Distillery but on our way we stopped at Robertsons Farm and saw West Highland cows and sheep and lamas. Then arrived at Singelton after driving through some cute towns. This was our first whiskey tour ever and they did a great job and the tastings were great. We then drove along Loche Ness to the Urquhart Castle. This was very interesting to learn about. Afterwards we headed to Iverness and Morag drove us around all of the highlights of the city. It's definitely worth a visit as it is a very charming and historical town. After we had walked awhile in town we headed back to our cruise ship. Morag did a great job and we would definitely recommend her and Thistle Excursions to anyone stopping in Invergordon.Written 21 August 2024
- thisissupid0 contributionsGreat shore excursion in InvernessGreat tour, great driver and great tour guide named Len. He was informative, friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and very accommodating to our group of 4. We saw the battlefield, the castle, Loch Ness, Inverness and an old church. Len took us off the beaten path and we were able to see the beauty of the area and a few bonus sites. This is an amazing company that focuses on a great tour and getting us back in time for our ships departure. They were excellent at communication, what to expect, what to bring and where to meet. We had to change our tour and they were very helpful in doing so. Definitely recommend Thistle tours. And if you are lucky, you will get Len for your guide and driver!Written 20 August 2024
- phowes1010 contributionsGreat tour with Thistle! We had a fantastic tour with Thistle tours out of Invergordon. Our guide, Len, was born and raised here and extremely knowledgeable in addition to being helpful, friendly and funny. Just the right amount of time at each location. Wonderful views of Loch Ness. - Teamco40 contributionsBook Thistle excursions! We took this Thistle Excursion with June and we had the best day! She modified the trip a bit due to weather, but we saw everything we wanted to see and were back to the ship in plenty of time. When next I go to Invergordon, I will not hesitate to book with Thistle. I highly recommend Thistle!! They will even work with you to plan a specific itinerary of what you want to see. It was such a wonderful day!Written 20 August 2024

It was packed full of beautiful views, good information, and fun sights. Our guide was June, and she was a delight. I would do this again and again. Really cannot recommend this tour enough.Written 20 August 2024

The Loche Ness location In conjunction with the castle destination was perfect. We enjoyed the variety of landscapes and June’s information of the history was great. Easy to locate tour off ship. - flyingp3450 contributionsThistle Excursions, Yes I do!We were on a cruise, and the ship was not offering the tour we wanted, so I did some research and found the perfect tour with Thistle Excursions. We were visiting the Loch ness, we had time to shop in town to buy souvenirs, see cows and some historical remains, and we taste some whiskey. What more to ask! Our guide was Moe, she was great and interesting, a real living encyclopedia about Scotland and also about the rest of the world! We were only 4 on our tour, so it was like a private tour without the price! Before the trip, I contacted Thistle Excursions by email, as I wanted to plan something special for my girlfriend during our tour. Maxine, the owner, contacted me quickly and said that she would be very happy to help me with my request. I wanted to do a wedding proposal to my girlfriend. Maxine did a brainstorm with her team, and she came back to me with some amazing ideas. We agreed to do the proposal in front of Loch Ness while visiting the Urquhart Castle. I had a special request to have a bagpiper, she found me the best, and she made all the arrangements for me. She also offered to have a photograph to do a video and some pictures of the special moment. David, who is also a guide, was on a tour with another group, and he met us at the location and took nice pictures and a great video. The bagpiper name was Dougie. He was the real thing. Wearing his bagpiper uniform with his kilt. He was a real gentleman, and he played like a real master, some classics and some special demands. I made my proposal, and my girlfriend said YES! We went for lunch after, and Dougie played the bagpipe while we were eating and drinking champagne, which Maxine generously offered to us. After this, we went to visit the Singleton distillery. It was really interesting, and it included a delicious tasting. In one day we really felt that we saw the best of what the Highlands have to offer while meeting with great local people. Thank you, Maxine, Moe, David, and Dougie, for making my dream proposal come true and for the amazing moment we experienced because of all of you. Don’t be afraid to book a tour with them, even if you are on a cruise with limited time. They were waiting for us when the boat arrived, and they made sure that we were back on the boat with plenty of time before departure. We would book another tour with them, ANYTIME!Written 2 August 2024

We had the day with tour guide Laura. She took us to where we wanted to go and altered the timetable to see the things that were most important to us.
We didnt n÷d gin or whisky tours so we were able to stay longer at the places we were most interested in and didnt have to hang around for other people. We were the only 2 onnthe tour. BEST DAY EVER or one of at least. It was like going on tour with your big sister. Laura knew all the stuff and more. Thankyou for a gr8 experience. Booking directly with them and not the cruise ship tour saved us an absolute fortune and they made sure we were back in plenty of time to disembark. ***** star

We recently used Thistle Excursions for a tour in Inverness during our cruise. We got lucky and the owner was the guide for our excursion and she did a fabulous job. We also had the good fortune to meet her partner Graham. They did a great job of keeping things on track and the tour was a much better value than excursions through the cruise ships. There was also the bonus for cruisers as they pick you up at the port in Invergordon which was hard to find with other tour operators.

I took this tour with my sister while we were in port on a cruise. The tour was well organized, well run, and on time to leave and arrive back at the ship. Mo was a fun and informative tour guide, blending her knowledge of local flora/fauna, historical stories of the views we passed, and funny anecdotes to keep things interesting. I knew the tour packed in a lot when we signed up for it, but was disappointed in the amount of time spent at Loch Ness. We stopped on the side of a busy highway, climbed down stairs to the rocky shore and had 20 minutes before we had to be back on the bus. Again, I know the itinerary was full already but maybe a different stopping place or more time at Loch Ness would have been more enjoyable. I have similar feelings as the other stops (barely enough time to get lunch in Inverness let alone see anything), HOWEVER we had ample time at Cawdor Castle and I really loved the time we spent there. Nearly made the whole day worth it for that stop.

Clava Cairn was omitted from the itinerary without notice or refund. The reason given was that they booked too many people and the larger bus couldn’t travel over the bridge to it. Then don’t book that many people!! It was supposed to be included in the price. Bait and switch! And to add injury to insult the A/C on the bus did not work. It was a particularly warm day and the windows were inoperable. 54 passengers. People got sick from heat. Do not book!

The Cawdor tour does NOT include Clava cairns. The Secret Loch Ness tour goes there. Thr guide explained the bus cannot go over the weak bridge. She didn’t say the tour had changed. It was always in a bus. Read the product.
The Aircon malfunctioned on the day but I’m told this happens often in the ship ‘d coaches. Like anything a bus can go wrong. I apologise for that.

Had a great experience with Thistle Excursions. Once off the ship, the meeting point was easy to find and well organized! Our tour guide was great—>funny but knowledgeable, our motor coach was new so that was a bonus, the driver did well on narrow roads and delivered us safely! I was concerned about booking an excursion separately from the cruise sponsored excursions but it was really a great experience! Would highly recommend!

We had such a fun day on this tour! Our tour guide was easy to spot with her purple suit when we came off the ship, bus was great and we especially appreciated our bus driver’s skill navigating the small roads! This company was easy to work with over the Internet and our guide (apologize if I get the name wrong, Anne) was just so passionate about sharing her knowledge of the area—-thank you so much for a memorable day in the Scottish Highlands!!

Inverness was one of our cruise port stops and we booked this excursion independent of the ship. Mo was a fantastic guide and provided lots of information at each stop. I liked that we were able to stop at a bunch of different places and also receive the relevant background information before exploring them. Mo had a great sense of humor and kept the group entertained throughout the tour.

It was an easy and enjoyable drive from Inverness to visit this beautiful castle and gardens.
The castle is very well maintained and the exhibits are an interesting insight into a family history through many centuries.
The gardens are meticulously maintained with some beautiful sculptures placed at various points throughout.
We had lunch at the cafe and it was delicious. I would particularly recommend the scones. The little village next to the castle is pretty and quaint.
Well worth the drive.

Absolutely fantastic. MO as tour guide and Ryan as bus driver, Ryan I am usually a nervous wreck when on a tour but your driving was impeccable. MO was helpful and full of knowledge. A great day was had by all.
As a company Thistle Excursions are proaactive I finding their missing clientele, truly remarkable compared to other tour companies we used this trip.

What a wonderful tour we had with our sweet local guide Mo. She was wonderful! As she drove us around, she talked about the history and shared insights and tidbits only locals would know. We were met at the Culloden Battlefield by a bagpiper, and it set the mood so beautifully. This is such a historical site. You want to find the guide from the museum that gives a free tour around the site; it's really worth your time. Mo was always willing to take pictures for us and answer any questions as well. We took the audio tour at Cawdor Castle, and Mo did it with us. The audio tour was very well done and the gardens out to the side of the castle are beautiful. A bagpiper was also at the entrance of the castle. We took a look for "Nessie" at Loch Ness (she is very shy, unfortunately). Mo stopped at the Whispering Stone from the "Outlander" series and explained the history of the stones. We were able to stop at a farm and see the Highland cattle up close. All in all, we felt we got a real taste of the Scottish Highlands. Thank you, Thistle Excursions and Mo!!

Hello we will be at Invergordon by. Cruises Princess. The boat stop at 7 am to 6 pm. At what hour is the tis escursion and a what hour it return in the afternoon. And where the bus take the passenger? Thanks a lot
Written 2 June 2019
The Norwegian Pearl is in port from 7:00am-4:00pm. I noticed that your Tour 2) Bus tour for cruise ships docking at Invergordon is scheduled at 10:00am. This is a 7 hour tour so return would not make it back to the ship in time. An 8:00am departure would return by 3:00pm and thus be doable. Are there any plans to make this tour accessible for passengers of the NCL Pearl?
