Sh one Tea transport but a great tour
This is a review of the transport, not the tour which was superb and 5star plus. I confirmed our pick up 24 hours in advance as per booking and informed them that I was on crutches needing a hip replacement. I was told our meeting point was the Drift hotel at 8:50 and we arrived at 8:35. At 9:00 I wad phoned as to where we were and I pointed out we were stood by a sign which said Drift hotel as was the first sign from our apartment on our first visit to Palm Cove. We did not realise reception was much further than where we stood at the sign to the Drift Hotel. Eventually we met our transport and had a superb trip to Kurunda on the Skyrail and train return. When we arrived back at Palm Cove we went past the Drift hotel where our driver stopped and said KB the hotels were in the wrong order on her sheet but we could get off and walk through the tunnel to the Drift hotel. I thanked her for adding the extra walking to my journey back to the apartment as struggling to dismount the bus with my crutches.

Great tour transport not fit for that name
Hi. This is a review of the pick up and drop off on our tour today and is not a review of the Kurunda skyrail and train which was excellent. The pick up was confirmed 24 hours in advance at the Drift hotel Palm Cove and we were at a sign that said Drift Hotel Palm Cove 15 minutes before our pick ip at 8:50. At 9:01 I had a call asking where we were, I replied at the entrance to Drift hotel Palm Cove to be told it was the wrong entrance but it was the one we walked to from our accommodation. I also informed the tour company that I was on crutches in the confirmation. I did not know that the true meeting place was at reception which is another 100 metres from the entrance. Eventually we met up with the bus only to be told we were in the wrong place, we were told the Drift hotel not specifically the reception. The tour was brilliant and a good journey back to Palm Cove, them we expected to stop at the Drift reception but oh no we passed that then the bus stopped to drop us off. Ad I exited the coach I complimented the driver on extending our walk home which is more difficult on my crutches.

        A varied full day tour
An excellent full day tour encompassing a variety of stunning views, rainforest flora and fauna (including spiders!) beautiful bays, and ice cream! Our driver / guide Daniel was great - so knowledgeable and informative. Highly recommend!

Lovely glimpse of an amazing ecosystem
Wonderful experience walking through rainforest and to Cape Tribulation. After the recent storms we did see crocodiles although well hidden and Adrian H gave us enough information to understand the forest.

A perfect day in the rainforest
This tour is a great way to experience the rainforest. Scott was an excellent guide - very knowledgable but also made our tour fun. Plenty stops along the way for food/drink - leaving the ice cream to the end. Take a waterproof with you as we had a shower when on the daintree river. Great day out and coming back seemed very quick! Must have been the ice cream!

        Mossman, Daintree, and Capre tribulation
The tour included a visit to Mossman Gorge, Daintree rainforest, and Cape Tribulation among other things, so basically it was a long day but Scott, out tour guide, made sure that we enjoy the day and learn about the history and culture of these places. It is worth every penny, and if Scott's your guide then you're going to have a great time.

A great way to see Daintree and Cape Tribulation
This was a beautiful and insightful trip! Our local guide/driver Scott knew so much about local plants & animals, as well as local and aboriginal history. It was great to be able to hear and learn so much with the backdrop of the gorgeous Daintree rainforest and cape tribulation. The bus was quite comfortable and they ran the tour even with only a handful of people.

        A Must Do Tour
An amazing trip! Very comfortable van/bus. Daniel was very knowledgeable about the rain forest, the widelife and history of the area. We went to the Mossman Gorge, and a riverboat cruise looking for crocodiles and saw two. We continued to Daintree Forest and had very nice lunch at a cafe in the forest. We went to Cape Tribulation and stopped for ice cream on the way back. This tour is a must to see so much in such little time!!

        Rainy Rainforest experience
Got picked up early from our apartments by Adrian H and the whole journey from Port Douglas was informative with lots of stories and tales about Australian history and the local flora and fauna. The weather wasnt the best but Adrian got us from one place of interest to the next with military precision. We had scones in Mossman and a beautiful lunch in the Rainforest then ice-cream on the way back in Daintith. The scenery was stunning and even though we didnt see any saltwater crocs on our river cruise it was a totally awesome unique experience.10/10 and would highly recommend whatever the weather

Fascinating look at the Daintree Rainforest
The tour was very interesting and informative. Our driver told good stories that kept us interested during extended drives. Not a good time of the year to see animals or clear blue water because it is rainy season.

Customer service was great throughout the service , a lot to see through the cable car , a few stops along the line included to explore the greenery and history.

Karunda markets at the end (weekends only) has a lot of food options (cafes) with many souvenir type shops, general market type shops (selling arty crafty type items). Lollie / chocolate shops , Many First Nations people playing didgeridoo and selling paintings etc. lots of families and other tourists visiting (1hr is enough to see it all, unless you enjoy browsing every shop?). There is bird , butterfly and koala sanctuary (all separate with separate admission costs , about $20 per adult) to see . Didn’t look very large or much to see , so passed on that. You could spend $$$ with the kids seeing it all.

The onto the karunda heritage rail to cairns , about 2 hours on a heritage train , comfy seats , lots of room, informative commentary, something different you wouldn’t do usually . Kids and families love it. Not a highly entertaining thing for couples , but it was ok for something different.

Good package / trip overall , do it once to experience it . Maybe visit again in 10yrs to see if anything changes.

We bought our tickets using their website while still in the US. The process was easy and their customer service was excellent. Our cruise ship arrived at Yorkey’s Knob and there was a transfer bus to take us to the Skyrail terminal. The Skyrail Cableway ride was astounding as it went over the rain forest. The app provides a commentary on the entire trip. About half of the way along the trip, there is a station where you have to switch to a second gondola. This station also give you an opportunity to walk and see the beautiful Barron Falls. The last stop is Kuranda. It is a small town that is worth walking through to see the trees and shopping areas. Available for a small extra fee are the glass bottomed gondolas. We did this and it was worth the money. Being able to look down on the rainforest is special. Also, the glass floor gondola riders are placed in their ride from a separate, much shorter, line.

Dear Kendot52, It sounds like you had an amazing experience from start to finish! The Skyrail Cableway ride over the rainforest is really breathtaking, with the added commentary through the app, it really enhanced the journey! Kuranda, with its charming streets and shopping areas, is a lovely destination to explore. Thank you Kind Regards Nicolas Vernerey Operations Manager

Really well organised. We paid a little extra for a prompt pick up from our hotel to transfer to the Smithfield terminal and a return coach back at 4pm. As we drove, we got a little tour guide of Cairns. The cable car ride stops at two areas - both give you the chance to see the rain forest close up and also the Barron River falls which are breathtaking. Kuranda is an interesting village with a variety of restaurants and shops- also we enjoyed the Koala Country attraction.
We allowed 6 hours all in and needed all that time - worth perhaps allowing a full day.

It was ok, but in this day and age its not worth the price of admission. It filled our day, we took the cable car up and train as a return. The cable car and train as items of transport and views delivered as expected. However the whole thing is sold to you as wonderful day out and time shop and review the crafts on offer and eat/drink at Kuranda. Well I am sorry to say, the "wonderful" of "Kuranda" has left a long time ago, more like a $2 shop in a market setting. (to be fair if you wanted local art including some indigenous items that was available). As for eating you could visit either of the 2 pubs, we did, and came away with a couple of beers and bag of chips (crisps). There was also a couple "fast food" types at the top of the town. Overall and nice day but not as expected.

I am really pleased that you enjoyed your experience on the Kuranda Scenic Rail and the Skyrail Cableway. I'm sorry the little village in the rainforest didn't live up to your expectations however. Some people never have enough time in the village and others too much time. I'm glad that you made the most of your experience and had a nice day. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Skyrail have signage saying they’re open 7 days a week. We planned our trip for a Monday only to arrive and find they don’t run on Monday’s. We did however manage to squeeze in a trip before our flight home.
Skyrail have signage saying you can book a one way trip with them and a return trip with Scenic railway. This didn’t work as they only offer a limited number of seats for scenic railway so we had to make a separate booking with them which was more trouble than it was worth. We were told there were busses from the scenic railway station to bring us back to our car at Skyrail. What they didn’t say is busses need to be pre booked with a tour company. My partner and I and a group from Scotland were left stranded at the Scenic railway station with no way to get back to our cars at Skyrail.
The trip itself was pretty with scenic stops along the way. If you’re scared of heights though, it may not be for you.
I loved the village of Kuranda but if you go up on Skyrail and back with scenic railway, it may not give you much time to explore.
If I had this to do again, I’d only go on Skyrail in the wet season when the waterfall was gushing, otherwise I’d drive straight to Kuranda. Issues with booking between Skyrail and scenic railway and getting stranded at the end of the trip took the shine off the whole day.

I did my trip with single day: scenic railway tour and skyrail to and from Kuranda. It’s a bit pricey but It’s ok for anyone who doesn’t wanna arrange trip yourself. Dueto it’s not high season amd weekday tour, so it’s quite easy and more relaxed for sitting inspring view of the railway via eindow seats and ride the skyrail with only you on the gondola . It’s no need to book the goldclass seats on the train and diamond gondola( glass floored one) . It’s no hurry for one dat trip , after 1.30 riding the train to Kuranda station, I had my favorite thai dishes in the thai kai cafe there. Furthermore did the riverwalk and Jumrum creek walk , ended up my trip with 40 minutes skyrail ride down to smithfirld station . The company tour bus waited for picking me up back to the city. It may be pricey but It saved my time.

There were several issues with the Kurunda Scenic Railway and skyrail and wild life -(down under tours). They advertised that you could do the wildlife attractions, birds and butterflies as well as have "free time" to shop and eat. Pick up was over a half hour late. When we reached Kurunda we had 1.5 hours before our (last) train departed. That 1.5 hour was cut by another 40 minutes when Koala gardens did not have any record of our ticket. After calling Down under tours, they found that our vouchers were set for the next day. Koala gardens told us they have had repeated problems with that tour company.
As a result we had to rush through the 3 exhibits, and had no "free time" as advertised. It also took an hour to get back to the hotel because of a big bus with riders from multiple tours and multiple hotel pick ups. The wildlife attractions were certainly worthwhile, but you need more time then what Down Under Tours provided.

Dear Robert T, Thanks so much for taking the time to review your recent tour with us. We are sorry that our tour didn't meet your expectations. Our morning pick-ups can sometimes be delayed, depending on traffic conditions on the day. In regards to the Kuranda attractions, while we do offer a discount for you to purchase your own entry into selected attraction, none of our Kuranda tours actually include entrance to any of these attractions. Perhaps they were booked by your agent? In regards to your drop-offs, our coaches to drop-off to multiple Hotels however we do limit how many stops there are. We hope you enjoyed the remainder of your time in beautiful Tropical North Queensland. Safe travels, Down Under Tours

A few weeks ago, a big typhoon hit, and the trains were suspended, so I quickly changed to a round trip by bus. On the way, I drove along roads that still bore the scars of flooding to the Skyrail. There were not many customers, so I was traveling alone, but I was able to ride the gondola by myself and enjoy it. The waterfall was very impressive, probably because there was more water than usual.

Our train trip to Karunda was cancelled due to heavy rain in past couple of days so skyrail both ways. Very well organised and lots of staff. Hotel pick-up/drop-off by lovely lady. The rainforest is stunning and the information at the stops is excellent. The waterfall was in full flood due to the rain and a spectacular sight. The train station at Karunda although closed was was a heritage walk through with abundant tropical greenery. Karunda itself is a disappointment - lots of shops closed following Covid. Sad. Overall a great experience.

great experience till we got to Kuranda. Arrived just before 2pm to find no food available to eat as stores were out of food could not go on boat tour as cableway ceased operation same time boat tour ended.
Clearly not a well organised operation between cableway and Kuranda businesses.
Got to the cableway at Kuranda to make our way back. Noted Covid social distancing in your group signage in the queue which was great to see. Though my husband and myself were force to share gondola with another couple in the same closed environment no 1.5 m distancing no masks offered. my husband and I got off only to be told by the staff member “ now you will have to wait till the end of the queue” like naughty children we waited for all the other people to get on before we could get back on.
Certainly not worth the money or the demoralising way we were treated.
I spoke to the manager when we got off only to be told that the Queensland Government approved for them to able to mix groups.
As a healthcare worker this doesn’t make sense, socially distance in groups outside but we can put you in a gondola (closed environment) with a couple from a different household within touching distance and breathe onto each other with no masks offered (approved by the Queensland Government apparently).

Thank you for your feedback and your review. I am so sorry to hear that your trip to Kuranda didn't live up to your expectations. As you can understand COVID times have altered the amount of people travelling and therefore this has changed the way that some businesses operate, in particular Kuranda cafes, shop owners and businesses. Unfortunately I think this was the case the day you travelled. Down Under Tours operates our Kuranda tours in conjunction with both the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and Queensland Rail. Please understand safety is of the utmost priority for all parties involved. Both partners, as well as ourselves operate under Industry approved COVID Safe Plans.
