      Utterly Unprofessional and Unaccommodating
Vatnshellir Cave's at 5 PM was the very first tour our family booked when making our Iceland itinerary. We had been very excited to visit what had been marketed as "the journey to the center of the earth from Jules Verne's story." However, our experience ended up being completely marred by unprofessionalism and a lack of basic customer service from the staff. After booking, we received an email advising us to use the WC at another location, as there was inexplicably no WC at the meeting point building, despite ample space and the company’s 10 years of operation. We reached the Malarrif Visitor Center WC around 4:50 PM, only to be met with two single-stall bathrooms, resulting in a line outside. Concerned about being late, we called Summit Adventure's number BEFORE 5 PM, but no one answered—unusual for a supposedly reputable tour operator with posted working hours until 5 PM. By the time all members of our family had finished using the WC, it was 5 PM. We rushed to the meeting point and arrived just minutes past 5 PM, NO LATER than 5:05 PM. To our shock, the woman at the building ignored us initially when we walked up, then immediately started SHOUTING at us even before we said anything. She claimed that the tour group had left after waiting for 5 minutes, with was not true since we were there before 5:05 PM. When we stayed calm and asked her for help in our situation, she just continued to scold and insult us, clearly already having no intention to help us. During our trip to Iceland, we had booked two other tours where the operators demonstrated flexibility and understanding. Although we managed to arrive on time for those tours, we still witnessed the basic customer service shown by the people to their customers who were running slightly late. For instance, during the Inside the Volcano experience at Þríhnúkagígur, the team waited about 15 minutes past the start time to address everyone. Similarly, at the Jökulsárlón Ice Cave tour with Arctic Adventures, our guide went around the parking lot looking for another family and only started the tour 10 minutes after the scheduled time. As these tour operators knew that they had a responsibility to their customers after receiving our money, they showed patience and professionalism, understanding that unforeseen delays can happen. To be clear, we DID NOT cancel our tour, as we had tried our best to arrive at the meeting location as soon as we could. Due to the female staff's refusal to accommodate or assist us, we had no choice but to leave. We then requested a full refund via both a feedback form and email, as the company has clearly failed to provide a service for the money we have paid, only to be met with an outright refusal and no reply after our response back to them (again, this lack of response further reflects poor customer service). This experience was incredibly disappointing. I strongly advise future visitors to reconsider booking with this operator, as their behavior was unacceptable and they failed to uphold even the most basic standards of customer service. In contrast to the many other nice Icelanders we met, who were genuine and straightforward, this company was exceptionally unfriendly. Their behavior suggested a lack of concern for customer satisfaction. As mentioned above, there are many other much better tours in Iceland—DO NOT waste your money on Summit Adventures.

      Fun, unique and interesting
We had a great tour with a local guide (I don’t her name unfortunately). The company is flexible and the staff super friendly. We arrived early and were able to go on an earlier tour than the one we originally booked. We were in a small group, and that made the experience even better. Dress warm! It is quite cold down there. We took lots of pictures and enjoyed the local folk culture (trolls and elves stories). Highly recommend it!

      Lava caves rock!
We did this tour on our recent visit to the Snaefellsnes Peninsular and really enjoyed it. We had a reservation for the two of us, but everyone else in our tour group of ten were just walk-ups. The tour lasts about 45 minutes and explores three levels of the lava tube. Our guide was thorough in explaining and describing the various features in the tube. We have done lava tubes in other locations (Hawaii and Sicily) but this was the most extensive we have seen. There are no lights in the tube and everyone carries a provided flashlight. The combined lights actually provide enough illumination for nice photos without the use of flash. However, flash is not prohibited if you feel the need. Be prepared for lots of stairs and wear good boots or hiking shoes because the floors are uneven.

      Best cave tour ever
Best cave tour ever. Andre our guide (from Croatia ) was focused on keeping us safe while providing a humorous narrative throughout. His knowledge of the lava flows that created this cave is extensive. And, (spoil alert) having us all close our eyes and turn off our flashlights for several minutes so we could appreciate all the colors in the sone was truly illuminating (pun intended) Thank you Andre for taking such good care of us and introducing us to everything about lava caves.

      Amazing experience!
Amazing experience! Guide was very knowledgeable and really helped explain why the lave tube was formed, and all the different features. A fascinating trip. Helmet and torch suppled You need hiking boots for the uneven floor and there are quite a few stairs. View from ticket office is amazing too!

      Very nice
A very nice tour of appr. 45 minutes which is long enough for us. Good to have seen the lava caves and the guide provided us with clear and good information.

Great tour-journey to the center of the earth!
Great tour-always felt safe and our guide was very informative. Not something you can do in many places and it was reasonable priced. Snaefellsness was awesome overall!

      Visit the Lava Cave
Very Interesting Experience! André was great at explaining so much to the group about the lava cave! He had us turn off all of our flashlights while 35 m. underground, experiencing true darkness and it was great!

      All things rocks!!!
Was in the area, and found it on the map. I booked a ticket on their website and drove over within 10 minutes. Very easy to get to, off the main road in the national park. The ticket includes a headlamp and flashlight, you are welcome to bring your cell phone and cameras. Super cool lava cave, very interesting history and really fun tour guide. Note, there is no restroom at this stop, but you can stop by at the welcome center where the lighthouse is, there is a toilet there.

Great deal for a great site
This was one of the best activities we did, we thought it was well worth the reasonable price that was charged. They were very punctual and ran a well organized tour. they have regular times and tours and we only booked the day prior but at least 2 or 3 small groups just did walk-ins and they were able to accomodate this without any issue (at least in the end of September). Guides were friendly and informative and safety conscious. I'd totally recommend it.

An Awesome Tour, but Check the Times
We stumbled across the last tour of the day and were lucky enough to get on it. The tour is well worth it so make sure you check the times. There are some uneven surfaces and two rather long spiral staircases. The guide maintains an easy pace. It’s 55 degrees Fahrenheit and damp in the caves. Dress appropriately. The spaces are not cramped (big caves). The guide does let you experience total darkness. Our guide did a great job. He was very knowledgeable and really brought the cave to life.

      Interesting experience
We visited in August. We did not have a booking, but, lucky for us, they had some last minute cancellations so they managed to fit us in. Tour was very nice, interesting and informative. Loved the part when we switched off the torches and it was pitch black dark. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend it.

      Very interesting and informative
My family of 5 (including 3 boys ages 13,11,8) all thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide was Yiannis and he was engaging and funny but made sure everyone was safe. He pointed out a lot of interesting things inside the cave and gave an informative explanation of how the cave and tubes formed. You are given a hardhat and flashlight to use. It’s chilly and damp so dress appropriately. Floor is very uneven and there are 2 spiral staircases you must ascend and descend. Left promptly at the appointed time and lasted around 45 minutes.

      Dark and mysterious!
Truly and great experience. Very educational and fun to do but also a great respite from the Iceland cold and wind. Your tour time is VERY prompt and you need to be there 10 minutes early even if they don't tell you or tell you otherwise. The cave is amazingly intact with more mystery to it than other caves in Iceland. Some of it is still unexplored due to size constraints. The price is fair and it has a great location (even though it was planned by nature). If you're on the peninsula, go to this. Even if it's a day trip from Rek, it's worth it.

Our guide Anita was very knowledgeable and excellent. She explained how the caves were made very well. There are 2 spiral staircases but fairly easy to manage. We visited 3 lava chambers and each was interesting. We arrived early for our booked tour and she was very helpful in changing our booking to an earlier time. One lady struggled with the uneven surface and Anita took her time and helped the lady as needed. Her enthusiasm rubbed off on all of us. I would recommend this tour

Fantastic experience in the lava tube! Beautiful and informative, and our guide was wonderful. I was concerned about feeling claustrophobic, but the chambers are big and everyone has their own light. Be prepared to experience full darkness!

There are 2 staircases to climb down, and then up to leave. They are very skinny, so the steps are small, and the metal is cold and slippery. Be careful!

My family of 5, ages 12-75, had a great time on this tour. Really well organized tour will you a glimpse inside the lava cave. Well worth the money. I also liked that it was fairly easy to book the tour and it’s right near a bunch of other sights located in the National park. Nice excursion to include in your trip.

A worthwhile tour, hosted by knowledgable and passionate guides, who strike the perfect balance between humourous stories and solid science. We weren't rushed at all and the guides are happy to answer any questions. Some stunning formations to be seen, although perhaps not for those who struggle with vertigo as there are a couple of long spiral staircases to get to the base of the lava tube. A hard hat and torch/flashlight are provided, but warm, waterproof clothing and gloves are definitely required.

Extremely cool experience! They take you down to three different levels of the cave that was created by receding lava over 8K years ago! It was both beautiful and somewhat haunting at the same time. Crazy rock formations, and you can see where the lava flowed very clearly. Our guide was exceptional with lots of knowledge to share. Highly recommend!

Took a tour of Snaefellsjokull glacier with this company and it was fantastic! Friendly and personable staff with incredible knowledge of the terrain and deep respect for it. Their customer service is absolutely second to none! I thought I’d lost my phone on the glacier and without hesitation I was offered a ride back to the mountain to go search for it (an hour round trip plus looking)! I cannot recommend this company enough!

The plan was a birding tour of the snaefells peninsula in late June. My guide was Thor. It turned out to be a cool windy day and the birds were hunkered down so relative few birds were seen (and besides it was late in the season. Outside circumstances forced me to select a less than optimal date for birds).

What happened was an amazing 7 hour circumnavigation of the Snaefells peninsula. Thor had a agile 4x4 and we went many places birds would normally be. I saw many interesting places. Thor previous had 25 years experience in search and rescue in Iceland so he knew all the nooks and crannies and had many insights on the snaefells geology, widlife and life in Iceland.

Overall, it was a wonderful and informative experience.

Great guide! She was very informative and seemed to really enjoy what she was doing. Lots of steps on a spiral staircase but worth it if your knees can handle it. Would recommend this tour.

Our guide was Anita... and she was wonderful. Not only was she so knowledgeable and has been down in that cave hundreds of times... it was like it was the first as she guided us into this amazing world. We were so amazed at what we saw and experienced, and she clearly had a good time sharing this with us. The tour is not long... less than an hour, but you go very deep below the surface into this lava tube. Walking can be difficult for me... I use a cane... that did not matter to her or the other 6 guests. There was also a young boy with us... and he was able to enjoy the incredible adventure as well... so, this really is a family oriented experience... and amazing to see such stunning structures created thousands of years ago through violent volcanic events.
