- WimborneAnnette0 contributionsExcellent experience with Crocodile Safari TourBooked with crocodile safari tours and had a great time! Our jeep driver was excellent and really had ‘eagle eyes’ when it came to spotting things we would never have noticed. We saw many elephants and also various species of birds and a couple of iguanas. We also had the best view of the crocodiles as the driver had binoculars to let us use. Many other people we saw did not and they missed out! Suggest either take your own or ask if your driver has some. Personally I think all the tours should offer them!Written 19 January 2025
- SusanG2010 contributionsWonderful birding safari in Bundala, organized by LakpuraWe had a great birding safari in Bundala, organized by Lakpura. I had initially booked with TripAdvisor, then canceled because I was concerned about getting back to my cruise ship on time. A Lakpura representative reached out to me to see if there was a problem they could help with. Indeed, they were able to offer a trip at a time that worked great for our cruise arrival and departure. We had a comfortable air-conditioned car and careful driver from the cruise terminal to the park, where we transferred to our safari vehicle and park guide. The trip in the park was fantastic. In addition to fabulous birds, we saw an elephant quietly grazing, so close that my video recorded his munching sounds. We also saw two kinds of monkeys, land monitors, and crocodiles. Our guide, Lena, was very good at spotting, and was able to identify all of the birds and other animals. He had a bird book and showed us the entries for many species as we stopped to view. He was also an excellent driver on the rutted park roads. I highly recommend working with Lakpura to book a Bundala tour. From their website you can contact them, and link up in WhatsApp to converse easily.Written 14 January 2025

- amies6890 contributionsBest safari in Sri Lanka- amazing guide! The safari was amazing! We saw so many elephants, deer, crocodiles, we saw a wild pig and many many birds. Our driver was amazing! He stopped for every wildlife, even the different types of birds, explaining their characteristics. You could tell he very much cared about the wildlife and the national park, he picked up plastic as we drove past it and was extremely kind and patient the whole time. Definitely recommend this safari! This was our favourite thing we have done in Sri Lanka!!Written 13 January 2025
- lorenarR532XQ0 contributionsGreat Safari Experience in Sri Lanka!I booked a safari tour, and the organizer was very responsive, contacting me right away. The next day, our driver arrived promptly and was kind enough to offer us water and bananas for the journey. The safari itself was amazing — we saw numerous elephants, some beautiful peacocks, and a variety of birds. The driver made sure we were comfortable and had a great time throughout the experience. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to explore Sri Lanka's wildlife! Thanks to the team for such a memorable day!Written 11 January 2025
- hasanayn1140 contributionsBeautiful sceneryA slow scenic ride from Badulla to Colombo. You ride through gorgeous scenery ranging from waterfalls to tea plantations. The best scenery is between Nanu Oya and Ella.Written 11 January 2025
- jainao20240 contributionsIncredible ViewsBest family time ever! We were lucky enough to have met such an incredible and multitalented guide (Janaka) . Who knew the site inside out as well as a great photographer and patience with kids curiosity! Made our journey so fun and interesting that didn’t even realise we had reached the top of Sigirya. Thanks to Janaka, our family has a beautiful memories to cherish.Written 10 January 2025
- 37evem0 contributionsGreat safari ;)Everything went well. The guide was very nice. He stopped all the time to let us see the animals from every angle. There was quite a language burden, but we still got to enjoy our safari: he showed us the animals through some app he had, and for further explanations we could check on the internet - he did his best! We loved the safariWritten 9 January 2025
- kallum110 contributionsGood safari experienceWe did the 9 hour safari. Our guide was really helpful in pointing out animals we would have otherwise missed. Seeing the elephants was magical. Lots and lots of different bird species. The last 2 or 3 hours or so didn’t really see much new however.Written 7 January 2025
- FarAway627391488140 contributionsGreat placeWe had a fantastic afternoon, the driver was great he stopped the jeep whenever he saw something of interest and showed us what it was in a book, really lovely guy, great time had by all and the baby elephants were a hit 😁Written 7 January 2025
- StefanP29950 contributionsa great experienceA really great experience. We were fetched by Tuck Tuck from our hotel and brought to a lovely villa, welcomed with a fine cup of tea. Once all participants arrived we got a hands-on introduction to the most important spices growing in the garden. Then class started in a very well prepared kitchen at the lake side with a wonderful view. The class itself was perfectly arranged, A perfect combination of introduction to ingredients and recipes and hands-on self experiences. Finally the jointly created menu was simply delicious. Highly recommendable.Written 6 January 2025

For most tourists getting on to a train journey in Sri Lanka is on their bucket list. Sadly, I did not know about the Nine Arch bridge until I reached Sri Lanka. Not to be faxed, I managed to get train tickets, with no reservations. The 3.5 hour ride from Nanu Oya to Demodara rail station was spent standing but the splendid sights—tea estates, farmlands, valleys, waterfalls and several tunnels—took my mind off the uncomfortable journey. As more passengers got off, I was able to get a seat. The train ride is quite slow and the train stops at every station. The railways stations are clean, no litter anywhere and there are roses and other flowers enlivening the space. The train ticket costs Rs 1,000 per person and the ride is very beautiful and memorable. The Nine Arch bridge has tourists putting a leg and an arm out to get pictures of the train with them. It is an exciting train ride as tourists and locals enjoy the journey—whistles pierce the compartment as the train chugs through tunnels. I got off at Demodara station—a quaint old world charming place.

Chose this ride primarily to avoid the winding road journey. The train was late at Nanu Oya but made it up to reach Ella on time.
Was glad with the decision - because we got great views & delightful company throughout the journey.
The train stations hold an old world "charm" (if you may call it that). We weren't lucky to have our train halt on the Nine arches bridge. Visited it later that evening.

Train ride through the beautiful Sri Lankan country side. Only downside is the cost of tickets and we found them difficult to get. There were 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids), our seat numbers were not together, but as the train was not busy we swapped seats, so it worked out.
