Manipura offers two types of aerial dance: Aerial silks and aerial hoop. Both spinning gears are hanging from the roof ready to be used by the dancer to explore the difference in gravity, weightlessness and creativity. The varied movement possibilities are not only a physical practice but a mental challenge too, as it involves to memorize the transitions and knot techniques to do dance in the air in a safe and fluid manner. It utilizes the strength and expression of movement to communicate contemporary ideas. We rise by liftig others. Aerial often involve partnering to form some double exercises, that’s also why we teach in two and combine our aerial practice with acroyoga and partneracrobatics on the floor. The introduction of a new element changes the dancer’s balance, center, and orientation in space. Aerial dance mixes strength, flexibility and art.
