About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- brucehT2538ED0 contributionsTwo great days of adventures with a very professional company. We found La Base Lamay through the web site of Nunu boutique hotel, also in Lamay. (We had a fabulous stay in the hotel) We both hiked with Lamas & climbed through La Base Lamay and had a great meal at their cafe on the main square. (Separately, we had an excellent and safe day's rafting with Munaycha, also found on the Nunu website) All the guides were highly professional with lots of experience. All would be up to UK standards - the absolute opposite of some the local cheap and cheerful operators. For climbing they provided lots of new kit, with rock boots and helmets. On the day trek for instance, our guide had first aid kit, radios to contact the driver and was highly knowledgeable. It is obvious from their interactions with the locals that they are involved in the high mountain community. Overall, the professionalism was pretty reassuring as it is generally hard to tell what kind of operation you are dealing with from a website when you have no local knowledge. All in, a charming and efficient team who offer great food at base, and fantastic adventures hosted by lovely guides. Bravo.Written 9 August 2023
- H389UIemmad0 contributionsGreat meal/experience, rude waitressGreat views and a spectacular experience. Our long awaited trip to Peru was one we will never forget and this was one of our highlights! We had a delicious meal at the cafe (which we highly recommend) however, our waitress by the name of Gisella was not our favorite interaction of the experience as she was very rude. Despite this, great part of our trip.Written 21 May 2023
- R5188WAsusanl0 contributionsBe careful who you hire to serve at your cafeWe stopped at the La Base cafe with my husband and another couple. The food and locale were very nice. We were there in November and we happened to be there when they had live music. It was wonderful until we had to deal with the waitress. This is a woman in 60s, loud and obnoxious, rude - kept pushing for beer we didn't want. Some of us think she had a bit too much to drink, but it may just be her personality. Her name is Giselle Velutino. We have NEVER had such a an experience before where the waitress flirts with your husband, pushes for drinks we don't want, and thinks she is part of the group she is hired to serve. I normally do not leave reviews, but this woman was so incredibly inappropriate that I had to do this and hope that the manager/owner addresses her behavior.Written 7 February 2023
- BardinMichael0 contributionsLamay and Beyond Tours… THE BESTThere’s not enough space here to properly give this praise. This experience was top notch! So gorgeous! La Base Lamay is an AMAZING tour organizer that can organize your whole vacation! We took them up on many of their adventures, but the 7mile hike at mile marker 104 was the highlight! Franco and Yasmin are amazing to help organize everything!!! Your stays, your rides, your adventures, anything to make you comfortable! We had Oliver for the majority of our rides, he made us feel safe during all the chaos of the streets, construction and traffic! Selinda, our amazing tour guide made sure we were always comfortable and enjoying our experience. Her wealth of knowledge was astounding! She could answer any question about the history, geography and local insight! When our whole trip got sick one at a time, she had a level of care that was familial and amazing! She rocked it! We were LUCKY to have her for all four of our tours! She is HIGHLY recommended from us!!! Take advantage of this off the beaten path and unique experience! Lamay is amazing and yet to be discovered! So gorgeous! A HUGE thanks to La Base Lamay and crew!Written 12 June 2022
- Travel8007940 contributionsGood, delicious sandwichesVery nice people serving you. The food is delicious, you can eat in a little courtyard. Prices are totally ok fornthe delicious food you get. Their drink selection was a bit low in my oponion, but that seems to be normal in Perù Definitely recommend eating here!Written 12 November 2021
- TheTravelersTable0 contributionsTotally unique, amazing sustainable tourism. MUST DOWow what can I say about Franco and his project, the whole day was truly fantastic. From the first moment we met Franco, we knew we were in safe hands. We were driven up to the community nearby to meet some of the locals who were SO kind! They explained to us the Inca farming calendar and how they grow their crops before we took a quick walk to work their land with them and plant corn. From there we headed out to the base for an amazing cooking class, with local ingredients and amazing things you would never try anywhere else. Franco was so knowledgable and enthusiastic, we couldn't have asked for a better guide and leader of this amazing project. For me this trip will be as memorable as machu picchu! Thank you everyone at La base lamay!!Written 21 October 2019

- jaswalinc0 contributionsOur time with Lamay...We spent over a 4 days traveling and exploring wonderful Peru with Franco and the team at Lamay. Apart from being one of the nicest persons we have ever met, Franco, was diligent, insightful, responsive, flexible and attentive. He took us on some wonderful trips, mades some beautiful lunches and showed us Peru of the beaten path...his approach to eco tourism was sound and cemented in doing the right thing for the environment...I would recommend Lamay over and over again - we have so many good words for how we were treated and the experience he passed onto us and that will remain with us.Written 25 September 2019
