We recently had the opportunity to experience this excursion as part of our Fiji getaway. Scott, the organizer, was efficient in contacting us early on to confirm our arrival and any last-minute details if we had any.

Once at the shoreline, we were greeted by our tour guide, Nem, who was AMAZING. His combination of humor, knowledge of the islands, and his love for his profession clearly apparent as he directed us down the river.

First, we came upon the entrance to the waterfall which took approximately a 10 minute walk to reach the punchbowl where we could swim and take pictures.

After about 30 minutes, it began with a slight shower (it's Fiji, not unexpected!) and we headed back to the boats. About halfway down the river, our group switched over to the bamboo raft where we floated while Nem continued his overview of Fijian culture before finally jumping back in the motorized boats to base.

From there, we changed into dry clothes and headed into the traditional village for a Kava ceremony, lunch, and entertainment. We sat in the main hall in a rather intimate setting talking about Fiji but also anything else that came up amongst Fijians, Americans, Australians, and New Zelanders. Nem expressed that this is the spirit of family in the Fijian culture and that everyone is to be included and open. We also discussed the Fijian tourism industry in detail as well.

Finally, we were given a demonstration on shaving and opening a coconut (2 eyes and mouth with long ridged back), creation of a basket coconut leaves, along with the creation of mats and Fijian art.

We concluded with the opportunity to purchase items made in the village. I grabbed a few items for myself as the money goes directly back to the village vs something pricer and less authentic at a resort gift shop.

Overall, this was a great experience and have no regrets. I'd recommend plenty of sunscreen, water bottle, a small wetbag, a change of clothes, and comfortable water shoes.

Discover Fiji was a very good tour operator to work with. We booked this direct instead of booking through the cruise ship and saved significantly. The best part is we were a small group of 6 passengers on our minivan. We did join up with another group once we got to the village but it definitely was a much smaller group than if we had gone with the cruise ship tour. Loved visiting the village, taking part in the kava ceremony, dancing a bit and seeing all the village had to offer. We also got to see some demonstrations of basket weaving, coconut splitting and tapa cloth painting. The boat trip was fun and we thoroughly enjoyed swimming in the waterfall. Do not hesitate to book this tour if you have the chance!

Not only is the waterfall beautiful and the scenery vibrant, the guide, Nim, was amazing! From the boat ride, to the amazing waterfall, the bamboo raft ride, to the amazing time we spent in the village. The lunch we were served was beyond amazing, and the demonstrations were wonderful. Definitely worth the trip!

I have written Lionel Danford & Scott multi times about my refund. I did receive a message from Scott. He stated he was waiting for Lionel to refund me that was 2 months ago. He is now ignoring my emails. I paid in full in August 2019 for this tour that would have been in April of 2020. Company doesn't have good communicate skills. Beware if booking with this company as I lost all my money since he required us to pay up front in full.

We had an amazing day on the Jewel of Fiji Tour!
Got picked up from our resort (Wellesley) and had about a one-hour scenic drive to the Village. Lucky for us, it was a gorgeous day so with our bag in a safe locker and phones/towel in a 'dry bag' (garbage bag haha) we hopped into the boats and had a great time speeding through the river getting very splashed on the way to the waterfall.
The waterfall itself was beautiful and refreshing and a few of the boat driver impressed us all by climbing up the jungle/rock walls and jumping for huge heights into the water.
The boat ride back was lots of fun and we jumped onto the traditional bamboo raft for a bit too. It's really funny the way they work the boats around the rapids too as a few of us had to get off and walk a bit to keep the boats safe.

When we got to the village we had the option to change out of our wet clothes which I wish we had remembered to bring but luckily it didn't take us too long to dry. We loved the performances, ceremonies and demonstrations in the village! My partner was chosen to represent the group in the Kava ceremony which was great. Nem, who was running the tour was very funny and lovely and was very good at teaching us things whilst slipping in heaps of jokes. The lunch provided was delicious and we very much enjoyed learning more about coconuts, basket weaving and painting. Having the kindergarten kids sing to s as well was so cute!

Everyone running the tour was just so lovely and genuine. You can tell that they just want you to learn more about fiji culture and have a fun day - which we definitely did. We didn't get the chance to actually pay for the tour before we got dropped back at the resort but made sure that our resort sent them our money straight after the tour. It was such a great day with great people and they more than deserve everyone who comes to fiji to support them and their village!

“The Jewel of Fiji Tour” is just that, a jewel. From our cruise ship, we were transferred by mini-bus to their Navua River base. Using restrooms, putting belongings in plastic bags, donning life vests was a bit of organized chaos but soon we were led down to the motorized longboats. The peaceful longboat ride took us past waterfalls, highlands, cliffs and even rapids. The Magic Waterfalls involved an arduous climb up a narrow, mostly-cement walkway. Our boat driver “Bill” was fantastic as I have mobility issues and he conscientiously made sure I got safely up and back. At the Namosi Village, our group of 15 from the cruise ship, joined other tour groups (total about 40 people). We witnessed a traditional Welcome Kava Ceremony followed by a buffet lunch (chicken from the lovo, chicken stir fry, taro, fish, steamed rice, watermelon, pineapple, etc.). We had the opportunity to witness several demonstrations including the uses of coconut and tapa painting and to hear a few songs sung by the enthusiastic school children. The tour provided an excellent variety of activities, a bit physically challenging, but a tour we would gladly repeat.

We were picked up from our resort on time, driven to their village in air conditioned van.
Our guide Ziggy was very informative in explaining our day. We travelled up the river by long boat, then had a fantastic experience on traditional fijian raft known as a bilibili guided by Ziggy in his Fijian atire. We then travelled up the river further to the fantastic waterfalls, this was a very easy walk to walk to. On our return to the village we were welcomed to an amazing feast of traditional Fijian food, there was plenty for everyone even vegetarians like myself. After lunch the village people did their kava ceremony followed by dancing and singing which we all joined in. Lastly we had a guided tour of the village meeting the local children who sang lovely songs to us.
The whole day was amazing worth every penny, would thoroughly recommend to any age group.

Our cruise ship got re-routed to Suva at the last minute and we needed to find an shore excursion on less than a days notice. Discovery Fiji tours has been around 35 years since 1984. Based out of Navua Fiji about 45 minutes west of Suva they offer tours into the interior of Fiji if you want to get away from the secluded confines of your beach resort and experience the beauty of the interior of Fiji and learn about the culture, this is the tour for you The tour was reasonably priced. it has 1/2 what our cruise lined tried to charge (thank You Holland America -NOT!). Scott in the business office was incredibly nice and accommodating in getting us set up. Molekai , the son -in law , of the owner of Discovery tours picked us up outside the port and drove us to Raiwaqa village in Navua giving us a create deal of background on Fiji as we drove. the tours is 5 hours and they pack a ton of activities in during the time. at around 10AM they load you in to long river boats and you travel up the river and back for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Along the way you will see beautiful river with cows grazing along the banks and a number of smaller waterfalls. You will get wet so bring along a wet bag and proper clothing. the highlight of the tour is a 200-300 ft waterfall where you can swim and the staff will take pictures. the ride back is fun as they move you off the long boat to traditional bamboo rafts for a short float.the ride back was fun as you hit some mild white water for some bumpy fun. Our river guide Tai was very nice and a great photographer Once back in the village, 2 and half hours are backed with activities. You are served lunch with food baked in the traditional way. the lunch buffet consisted of -chicken, fish, rice , pineapple, mangoes , taro and other native foods. Very tasty. The leader of the activities was Nem who was very entertaining and personable. you will see native Fijian song and dance, a Kava ceremony, basket weaving and coconut opening demonstrations. you will get to see the absolutely darling kids of the village preschool sing to you. Finally at the end they have souvenirs to sell . All reasonably priced. My wife purchased two refrigerator magnets that were very well made. a number of those on our tour were staying at hotels in Nadi almost 3 and 1/2 hours away. this is a great tour if you staying in Suva or any of the resorts in Pacific Harbor. as our ship didn't leave til 7:30 , our guide drove us to see the impressive beaches in Pacific Harbor just west of Navua. I can't recommend this tour and this company enough. the difference is the people. They were so great

An absolutely wonderful day, with more than a similar tour offered by the cruise ship, and at half the price.

We were met outside the port gates, then driven to a Fijian village where we were greeted by the residents and honoured by a welcoming kava ceremony by the village men. The ladies then danced for us, following which we were led to an open area for a history of the village itself and a demonstration by some ladies of traditional bark painting. Then we were taken to the next part of the village for the unearthing of the lunch which was being cooked for us. Lunch was back at the meeting house and was excellent. There was fresh fish, chicken, sausages(!), hot vegetables and salads, and cordial to drink.

After this huge lunch, we were fitted with life jackets and taken down to long boats for our journey up-river to the waterfall where those who wanted could have a swim - and it was wonderful. We went through some rapids both ways, nothing too severe, and the Fijian guides were very helpful getting me in and out of the long boat (I was still recovering from a severe illness and was a little weak).

Overall, a wonderful day.
