About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- qo3030 contributionsFantastically knowledgeable guide on an 8 hour day trip in Kaohsiung, TaiwanThe guide Charlie Lee was an outstanding guide on the 8 hour day trip - very knowledgeable about history and culture and a carefully planned itinerary. I was initially peeved that I had to pay double as a solo customer but I soon discovered it was worth it. He was very attentive and pleasant and I learned a lot about the city and its history and culture!Written 15 February 2025
- thanh n0 contributionsInterest tourMy guild is Hwang is knowledgabe about the tour and Taiwan history. It is a raining day but he make it interest. He also return my umbrella the next dayWritten 14 February 2025
- PTDOC0 contributionsFull day city tour of TaipeiWhile we had a great time on our private full day city tour of Taipei with Kiao Hei, we were disappointed in the ‘guide’ part of our day. Kiao Hei was a great driver. He was prompt, drove us safely to all points that we agreed on, was communicative via texting when necessary, took good photos, and was helpful with directions. He was very helpful planning the itinerary with our preference of doing more outdoor sites and activities. On the negative side, we were very disappointed in the lack of information we got for our stops. We went to the Chiang Kai-sheck Memorial, but did not get information about its history. We asked, but there seemed to be a language barrier and our questions on that and other things were not understood and often went unanswered. Our guide was basically a driver, and not really a guide. His English skills and sharing of information and history during this city tour was below the level of other tours we’ve taken with TripAdvisor. While we were disappointed in the language difficulties and lack of information, we did have an excellent day, got to all points agreed on. and enjoyed the city tour.Written 14 February 2025
- Kygreeneyedblond0 contributionsOur amazing day in Kaohsiung with JacksonMy husband & I had an amazing day with Jackson in Kaohsiung. We loved our time at Fo Guang Shan Buddha Temple Museum. Jackson immersed us in the Buddhist culture with his passion & knowledge. We felt the holiness of the place through him. We enjoyed all the experiences, including a calligraphy session and a prayer I got to write, hang, & head bowed, send. Jackson also took us to the Pagodas, we had an excellent local lunch, the Shoushan LOVE Lookout, The Pier2 Art District, & he managed a stop at a local bookstore to help me get a copy of Harry Potter in the local dialect (something I collect). Before heading back to the ship we stopped for boba tea! Jackson was the perfect guide to a wonderful city! Thanks again Jackson!Written 13 February 2025
- Esthie O0 contributionsBest Tour GuideVincent Hsu is the most excellent tour guide I have had. He is very fluent in English, knowledgeable, patient and he even help us with other task like sending us to the best restaurants and hot springs facility in Beitou. He translated and explained everything on our behalf. He even escorted to groceries and ATM.Written 13 February 2025

- darceah0 contributionsA private 8.5 hour private car tour of Taipei that was very informative & personable!Hicks Wang is very perceptive in determining the specific interests of his customers. I'm traveling as a solo female senior from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I'm interested in the culture, architecture, history, politics and different religions of Taiwan and how they came to be! Through my questions, my guide Hicks quickly picked up on my curiosities and with much genuine appreciation for my curiosities he listened, answered & clarified his answers to my questions making sure that I understood his answers. His choices for site visits, the pacing to get to and walk around at those very interesting sites was so fabulous! For example, Taipei 101, the Chaing Kai-Shek Memorial Hall & Gardens, 101 Designers (Louis Vuitton, etc.) Retail Plaza, that I would like to return to Taipei to see the New Years Lazer light show at Taipei 101! Hicks is an amazing, knowledgeable & personable tour guide! I was very blessed to have him as my private guide! He communicated with me by WhatsApp in the morning before my solo arrival in the Keelung cruise port terminal. We exchanged identifying pics to help in finding each other quickly, and along with a sign with my name on it, we spotted each other despite the 1000+ disembarking people from the cruise ship's arrival! He is intelligent, speaks English very precisely and he succeeds in providing his customers with a very satisfying first time exciting customized visit to Taipei.Written 10 February 2025
- 346dennisq0 contributionsFantastic Solo Tour TaipeiI had an amazing solo tour with Hicks Wang. From the start, he went above and beyond to ensure a great experience. He met me outside Fushan Soy Milk, patiently waited while I ate, and then guided me to the places I wanted to see, like Elephant Mountain and Taipei 101, along with hidden gems I didn’t know about. His excellent photography skills, deep knowledge of the area, and accommodating nature made every stop engaging and enjoyable. At times, it felt more like exploring with a close friend than with a tour guide. In the end, he kindly dropped me off at the High-Speed Rail station so I could return to my city. Our parting felt bittersweet. I highly recommend him to any traveler seeking a personalized and memorable tour!Written 8 February 2025
- RodH7770 contributionsA fabulous day tour. Highly recommend. We had the best day. Nicholas was an incredible guide. - lemoneater120 contributionsGreat day trip with VincentVincent was our private driver/guide for the day. He introduced himself two days prior via WhatsApp and was prompt in picking us up. He was very friendly and accommodated our requests. The van was comfortable for the 5 of us. Even with the pouring rain/wind, Vincent was enthusiastic about taking us places, telling us about the area/history, sharing his local insights, and taking our pictures. He also took us to places with clean bathrooms which was very appreciated. Thanks to Vincent for a great day! 5 stars, highly recommend Vincent and YOLO Taiwan!Written 5 February 2025
- Z4578NMalexish0 contributionsPerfect trip!Let me start with BOOK THIS TOUR, and if you can request Nicolas! My grandmother and I had a spectacular experience. It was a private tour so it was just the two us with Nicolas. He was punctual and a safe driver. We got to see and taste so many wonderful treats. We got to see different amazing sights that Taipei has to offer. We were able to go at our own pace; Nicolas showed patience with my grandmother as we were exploring. Nicolas was so knowledgeable and welcoming—not to mention but also a great photographer. Definitely a trip worth booking.Written 5 February 2025

Booked a tour for two and liked the proposed itinerary. Excellent, easy communications along the way with the tour company. We needed to be picked up at a cruise port and were provided a clear meet up location. Husband unwell so I went alone. Got to the meet up spot about 30 minutes early and Jessie (Chia Hsin-Chen) was already there with our name sign. That is a great start! Turned out she was a driver/guide with a spacious, clean, very comfortable vehicle. I let her know how I wanted to skip two of the proposed itinerary stops to devote more time to two others. No problem! Jessie was personable, friendly, knowledgeable, and had a ready smile. She graciously handled the many questions I had about Taiwan, Kaohsiung, Buddhism, and the many things I wondered about as we visited my biggest interest: Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum and extensive grounds. She helped me do things respectfully and regularly checked about my comfort, especially since it was hot. She was a great informaton and cultural asset as we went through the museum at my pace. Because I was alone that day her regular offers to take pictures of me was much welcomed. She was good about keeping an eye on the time to help me see everything I wanted while factoring in my deadline for getting back on the ship. I only speak English and Jessie's English was good enough. We each resorted to Google Translate periodically when we weren't quite connecting and wanted to nail something down. For me this was a plus because two human beings were working together to come to a common understanding. The "a ha!" moments are a pleasure for me. The tour company (the infrastructure which can set the guide up for success or failure) did its job well and Jessie was a pleasure to spend time with. I do not hesitate to recommend them to other travelers and want to hire her again if I ever return to Kaohsiung. PS: Happy birthday, Chia Hsin!

Aaron’s English was fluent and he had a lot of knowledge to share. He would give us relevant information of the city while we were on our way to next destinations so there was never a dull/awkward moment. He was also good at time management as we had told him we had a dinner plan and he let us know when we needed to leave at each stop in order to be on schedule. He also has a dry sense of humor which is much appreciated. I would hire him again and happy to introduce him to friends and family who needs a tour guide for southern part of Taiwan.

As a lone traveller with no Mandarin, I was happy to pay for the convenience of customised transport and a guide who was able to explain so much to me. I really feel that if I had completed my itinerary independently (which I considered), I would have missed so much in terms of the background and culture of the places I visited. Arthur, my tour guide, was delightful - so knowledgable and helpful. He picked me up from the station at no extra charge and navigated us both through the best breakfast cafe in Kaoshiung for dumplings - perfect!

Our driver picked us up at the cruise port as agreed. Due to heavy traffic, it took us a long time to get to our first destination (Buddha Museum). Since the driver obviously couldn't speak English (we only spoke to each other in German on his cell phone and he spoke in Chinese, with Google translating. The call quality was therefore poor. When we spoke to him in English, he always held out his cell phone to us. From the excursion description, we actually understood that it was an English tour), it was almost impossible to get into conversation with the driver. In the Buddha Museum, we were led through various rooms, but we received no information from him. When we asked to skip lunch due to lack of time, a cell phone translation discussion followed, because it was obviously never translated into Chinese properly enough for him to understand. The other stops were nice, although we were told several times that we had to have lunch, which we always said no to. We returned on time in the afternoon. The destinations were very beautiful, but due to a lack of any information flow, the tour could also have been done by a taxi driver, which might have been cheaper.

We apologize for the error in providing a Mandarin-speaking chauffeur instead of an English-licensed driver-guide. Please contact us at service@yolo-taiwan.com so we can arrange a partial refund for you. Thank you for your feedback.

This was a most enjoyable tour. Peter our tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. The visit to the Fo Guang Shan Museum was outstanding and not to be missed. The Dragon Tiger Tower visit was OK and could be dropped with the time better utilised with a visit to the Pier 2 Art Centre. However the Dome of Light Railway Station was beautiful and made even better with the solo pianist. The view from Monkey mountain should also not be missed. Thank you Peter for en excellent tour

Our tour guide's name was Aaron Huang. He arrived on time and was so polite and knowledgable. Traveling with me was my 7 year old son which can be difficult for some. He was extremely patient and made things fun for him to keep him interested. He took the time to explain the culture and important aspects of each place we visited. He did not rush us at all and ensured that we had plenty of time to see each stop of the tour.
If I travel back to this location and want a tour guide I would contact Aaron again as he made our visit to Kaohsiung the bast part of our trip!

Our guide Aaron showed us a wonderful time in Kaohsiung! We loved chatting with him and learning more about the history and culture of the area. We accomplished a lot in one day and definitely would not have been able to see so much on our own. Our favorite spot was probably the old British fort with great views of the harbor, plus monkey sightings nearby! Thanks Aaron for a great tour!

Thankful to my guide cum driver, Charlie who explained to me on the background and history extensively on all the sites visited. He has good knowledge and this gave me a better understanding of Kaohsiung as a whole.
As I was travelling solo, he also helped to take photos for me along the way.
