About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- NathalieAndAndrew0 contributionsSpectacular accomodating and easyIsland life Taiwan- Jamella our contact- made this so easy. Booked through TA our guide for the day was Santa who collected us from our hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and some lovely touches including water being provided and a fruit stop. Photographs failed to jdo justice to this wonderful place so you’ll just have to visit it.Santa’s local and historic knowledge was great. The day was a hoot.Written 27 October 2023
- MightiestQuinn0 contributionsBest Laid Plans Go Awry ... With A Silver LiningWe were scheduled to be in Keelung on a cruise ship in March/20 so we contacted Taiwan Vista Tours (TVT) about their shore excursions. TVT has standard itineraries for cruise ship visitors but we worked with Kierra to develop a unique private itinerary. She was excellent in making recommendations that would fit into our limited time in port. We booked and made a deposit of 10% of our tour cost via PayPal with the balance to be paid to our driver/guide. That is quite reasonable compared to full advance payment required by other tour operators. Then came coronavirus. Our cruise line made significant itinerary changes that affected our arrival date into Keelung. We went back to Kierra who was very helpful in changing the date of our booked tour in Keelung and in developing another itinerary for an additional day we now had in Taipei. Everything looked great. But then Taiwan announced it would close its ports to all international cruise ships. We no longer would make it to Keelung or Taipei. So we went back to Kierra again and asked for a refund of our tour deposit. Within an hour, we had notice from PayPal that a refund was being processed. It's said you can judge a company by how they respond when things don't go as planned. Our experience with Taiwan Vista Tours was excellent. Huge shout out to Kierra who was responsive, patient and sympathetic to our ever-changing situation. When we're in Taiwan in the future, there is no doubt we'll use Taiwan Vista Tours.Written 9 February 2020
- Purplegirl870 contributionsSpectacular Day in the GorgeWe cannot say enough about this tour and our fabulous guide, Jason (OJ). He made the experience fascinating, stimulating and yet easy. We took a train down from Taipei early in the morning, 6:10 with an 8:20 arrival, and were met at the station. The next ten hours were magical. Jason’s knowledge of this magnificent region’s geography, history, local culture and hiking trails was superb. We saw every gorgeous location I’d read about and then some additional ones known only to locals. This tour brought us to one of the world’s most fabulous and fascinating natural locations. It’s hard to believe it isn’t better known! Taiwan Vista Tours is a very professional outfit and if Jason is any indication, they offer the best one day tour of this region. It was GORGEOUS!Written 10 December 2019
- MicheleM13520 contributionsEvery Step is a Photo OpThis has to be one of the most beautiful spots I have ever spent time in. Amazing rock formations, beautiful blue rivers and streams, lush mountain sides, the trails we walked had it all. The trails themselves are well maintained and easy to walk. The tour is well designed, the time we were given to walk each trail was sufficient to complete the trail in a leisurely manner, with plenty of time to stop and take in the stunning views along the way. I was staying with friends rather than at a hotel (they have taken many visitors to Taroko so to give them a break I decided to take the tour on my own) and was pleasantly surprised when the tour offered to pick me up and drop me off outside my friends' home. I appreciated that service, and also our guide, Rick was very good, and an excellent driver. This tour was definitely one of the highlights of my visit to Taiwan.Written 6 December 2019
- 600leov0 contributionsJust me and the tour guide :)Just me and the tour guide :) Review of Taroko Gorge Classic Day Tour from Hualien City (Small-Group) Pending review It was a really nice experience! It ended up with just me and Rick, the tour guide. He was really nice and helpful. He even recommended some nice restaurants in Hualien City toward the end. The tour itself was nicely paced, probably because I was alone. I was able to take my time through each of the trails, which weren't that difficult. The National Park was gorgeous - beautiful rock formations and clear blue water in some streams. During this time of the year, apparently it is high season but there weren't too many other tourists around to make walking the trails busy and noisy. I was still able to enjoy the sounds of nature and take my time. Rick also took me to some other parts of the Park which was nice. Overall it was a good experience. Things to note, however, unlike most other tours, they don't provide you free water here and you buy your own lunch so don't expect it. Just bring your own water if you need.Written 4 December 2019
- conczkol0 contributionsHighlight of the TripA group of friends and I went to Hualien for the weekend. Not sure what to do we decided to book an all day tour at Taroko National Park, and I have to say it might have been one of the best ideas someone has ever had. We were a party of 5, our guide picked us up from our AirBnB and drove us to all sorts of places. He took us to all the big name places in Taroko, while giving us background on each of the places. Our guide was super friendly and helpful. If we ever had any questions he was able to answer them. While the service was amazing and I cannot recommend it enough, the icing on the cake was Taroko itself. It was one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen. If you ever want to see Taroko, this is definitely the way to do itWritten 10 August 2019
- discophant640 contributionsGreat Day With Rick! Our guide picked us up at 9:30 in Xincheng and we were off right away to the cliffs. The tour was paced really well, we saw a lot of the park but weren’t rushed around at all. Our guide gave us open ended times to complete the trails, and was very nice. Lunch was also very good (your own cost, but reasonable) and in the end we were treated to some absolutely gorgeous views of Taroko. If you have limited time in the park (we only had one day) this is a great way to see as much as possible without worrying about bus time tables! Thanks again!Written 28 July 2019

- Samuel S0 contributionsA Wonderful Tour of TarokoWe were a family of 3 and we had an excellent tour with Jason Huang (Relax I Drive) , our driver. He chose a route to help us avoid the crowds and catered to our pace so that we could see the most important sights in a short period of time. A wonderful experience altogether and we would definitely recommend Jason again.Written 16 July 2019
- ColinOz0 contributionsGreat day with Jason our wonderful tour guideI used a driver (recommended by another TripAdvisor member). He was great. Using the local bus would have been tedious. You would have to miss things. A tour would feel like a cattle truck. I left my rental car at the hotel and after a 9am pickup, a 40 minute drive from Hualien to the park, we spent a great day seeing this fabulous place. He dropped us at the various spots and picked us up after our walk at the next carpark. A good lunch spot and a few more sights before getting back to the hotel by 4. He was very friendly and helpful. He insisted we drank lots of water as it was quite warm (25c). If you would like his email then please contact me.Written 31 March 2019
- Rolfoo0 contributionsGreat experience with a great guideWe arrived late at our hostel, and managed to book a tour in the evening for the next day, in english, no problem. We we're picked up at our hostel at 9 and spend the whole day in the Taroko National Park where we have seen amazing scenery. The guide (Jeff) told us all about the park but also about local culture, and more. We had a great day!Written 30 March 2019
- phantomrose1010 contributionsAmazing day at Taroko Gorge. We are a 70+ Australian couple who always do our own thing but decided that the Taroko Gorge was too vast to explore properly within our limited timeframe, so booked a full day tour with Taiwan Vista Tours. Our guide Rick picked us up in a nice van and took us to many places of interest in Hualien, before making our way to the Gorge. At the gorge he was able to drop us at the most popular walks that he also felt we could manage. We loved the beauty of this Gorge and also the attention Rick gave us. We highly recommend the company and their very knowledgeable guide, Rick. Many thanks.Written 29 March 2019

He is very knowledgeable, will answer all the questions, speaks English, and is a very pleasant person to spend a whole day with. I learnt a lot, saw spectacular views and overall had a wonderful experience. Thank you Jason.Written 12 February 2019
- TAN R0 contributionsHualien is beautiful with such beautiful valleyPerhaps it is also the good & cold weather that makes the whole Hualien trip so awesome. Our guide, Jeff brought us to food that only local goes, which is such a nice experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the 4 nights & 5 days private tour and the scenery is so beautiful. No rush and the instruction from Jeff is so clear that we being 2 elderly couple has no fear at all. Highly recommended for those who loves beautiful sights.Written 31 January 2019

Signed up for private tour basically because of mum and dad who are in their 70s, The spots we went within the national park are mostly flat. Taiwan Vista's Jeff took good care of us during the trip. Other than driving us, he gave us some historical background of Hualien and explained lots of relevant info regarding the national park. We were able to take our time at the spots we visited. Taroko is a must do while you're at Hualien, great tour with great service. We've enjoyed it very much.

Great comprehensive day tour of Taroko National Park. Tour guide Jason Lee was knowledgeable, eager to teach, and made certain each participant had an excellent experience. We were with a group of six . Pick up and drop off were at our hotel. Aboriginal snacks ( including sausage link and agar bubble drink) and a full delicious lunch. Tour was very comprehensive, including Swallow Grotyo, suspension bridge walks over the gorge, Eternal Spring Shrine, Bell Tower trail and more. Lots of background and history not only of outside conquerors and threats, but also about the Islands aboriginal peoples. A truly a amazing day at great value

We booked a private day tour with Jeff and loved it! Jeff is really nice, knowledgeable, and professional and speaks really good English. My 7 year old daughter was along for the tour and had no problem keeping up. The trails were easy but really pretty. We had a great day and would highly recommend this tour.

When our American friends come to visit us, we always choose Taroko to show them how beautiful Taiwan Island is.
To save time, we'd hire a tax driver for a full-day ride. There are quite a few trails with astonishing views in Taroke National Park. The most exciting one is Baiyang Trail. When you go to the end, you have to take off your shoes and enter a tunnel with bare foot in the water. The tunnel is dark and comes with falls. A lot of fun and surprises. Highly recommended.
The other spot you don't want to miss is the Tunnel of Nine Turns. You can have a breathtaking view of marble valley.

We had a great guide, Jason, who led a well paced tour of Taroko Gorge. His knowledge of the area, where he grew up, along with the historical context created a great backdrop to complement the beautiful natural scenery.
From pickup at hotel to the various points of interest to an enjoyable lunch, Jason took very good care of our group.
Highly recommend it!

Absolutely fantastic tour of the Toroko National Park. Our guide, Jeff, was friendly and knowledgeable of the park and Hualien. From a prompt 8:30AM pickup from the Hualien Train Station, we were zipped to Chishingtan Beach, Qingshui Cliffs, Swallow Grotto, Baiyang Trail, Lushui Trail, Cimu Bridge, Eternal Spring Shrine, Changuang Temple Bell Tower, and back to Hualien Train Station by 5:30PM. In looking at our fitness apps, we hiked for over 15 kilometers, including hikes over scenic suspension bridges, gorges, and rivers; sometimes up/down steep inclines and pitch black tunnels. The highlight was the Baiyang Trail, ending in a darkened tunnel of falling sheets of water.
With Jeff’s speedy hiking pace (as fast as we could go), knowledge of the specific sites, routes, parking, and peak times, we covered much more than we could have with the Taroko park shuttle bus, and even more than with a larger private bus tour. We even had time to eat a local breakfast of soy milk and scallion pancakes and an early ramen dinner in Hualien, both only a local like Jeff would be able to find. His English communication was fluent. Having the VW minivan was just the right size to go deeper into the park than the prohibitive buses, get closer parking, and comfortable enough for our party of 5.
The pre-trip booking and payment was informative and efficient, led by Kierra. Paypal payment was secure and easy. The tough part was outside the agency's control, which was securing the required Taipei-Hualien train booking, made difficult and complex by TRA’s antiquated system and high demand for the express trains (versus regular trains). Here is my train booking experience to share.
Taipei-Hualien TRA Train Booking Instructions and Tips: There are two types of TRA trains for the 170km trip from Taipei to Hualien; the express takes 2 hours and the local train takes 3 to 4 hours, both cost the same 440NTD one way. As such, the express trains sell out fast, especially during the weekends and holidays. Book on TRA.MOTC Official Website (google TRA Taiwan train), as soon as 14 days prior to travel, timing is very important to get the early express (Puyama and Toroko) trains. You need your passport ID # and major credit card for payment. Most would choose the roundtrip booking option; a rejection of the selected in-bound or out-bound train will require you to start the transaction all over. Once successful, remember to do a screen print and write down the booking number and train information (the TRA system does collect your email address, thus no email confirmation, and only way to retrieve your booking is via the booking number). Upon arrival in Taipei, you retrieve your ticket from most major TRA stations such as Taipei Main and Sungshan, bring your passport and booking pickup form, do this at least 30 minutes prior to departure, but I would recommend doing this as early as possible in case of issues. The site also states a 7-11 pickup option using the ibon Kiosk, but I didn’t see it in visiting several stores, thus went down to the Taipei Main Station and stood in a 20 minute TRA ticketing line to pick up my tickets a couple days prior to departure.
Overall, I highly recommend Taiwan Vista.

We can highly recommend this tour, we liked it very much. We came by train to Hualien and decided to book a private tour instead of renting a car. Best decision to our opinion, because at some spots parking is difficult. It gave us the opportunity to walk around at some beautiful spots, while our guide was waiting in the car at the end of the trail.
Jason (O.J.) is a very friendly, energetic ans passionate guide, who grew up in this area. He showed us the highlights of the park and the area surrounding the park. His English was great and he has great and interesting knowledge about history and nature.
We also took the lunch option, which was very tasteful local food.
When we come back to Taiwan in future, we will surely book another tour with Jason!

Jeff, our tour guide, picked us up at 8:30 promptly from our hotel. He took us to several scenic spots...some to enjoy the amazing views and some to enjoy hiking with amazing views. Our group of 6, ranging in ages 18-55, managed to put in over 12 miles of hiking, nothing too physically demanding. Although we were not provided with flashlights or rain ponchos, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them as well as a pair of flip flops or other shoes to get wet in order to see the "curtain waterfalls."

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting Toroko Gorge and the other locations. It was fun to hear about the history and news of Hualien. We finished the tour and Janet was kind enough to help assist us with purchasing the correct tickets at the train station. Thank you for the memorable tour, Janet! Would definitely recommend this tour for those who are considering it.

Hello, are you still conducting any tours around Hualien or the Taroko park with the current condition of the trail and road closures? I'm thinking of visiting Hualien/Taroko in late November, but I'm not sure if there are still tours!
