Lovely re-built theatre
Sep 2019
The booking was quite difficult as the tour guide had been asked to be interviewed by TV on the day we had already booked and paid for. The ensuing disruption was that we had to change to another day, we did not have another day but offered to change to the day we arrived in Tokyo if we could be taken straight from the airport by taxi. More disruption and the problem was solved when I asked if someone else could stand in for the the guide on the same day. It was just panic by the guide I guess but also an inability to appreciate the other persons situation.
*As we had not received an actual ticket we were very rudely treated by the theatre staff who basically told us to clear off despite having confirmation e-mails and an invoice. As far as they were concerned it was nothing to do with them and we had no right to be there. The theatre staff were hopeless and bad at their job, I had to sneak in to the box office and the receptionist there understood some English but the little tubby man who had been causing trouble came in and basically told the girl we shouldn't be there and he shooed us out. She came out with us and my wife was with some help able to ring the guide who sent her stand in Eric . The difficult tubby man may have a harder time if he encounters Rugby fans in the next few weeks.
The seats really were high up up in the Gods and at the back however Eric obtained a very useful translation device which made up for the problems and it was much enjoyed. I prefer Beijing Opera having seen the act as Kabuki is very traditional with men also playing female roles. The range of instruments was not as good as Beijing Opera. .
The guide I think was having a hard time of it, being a woman I can only believe she had had a difficult time herself with these unhelpful staff and the theatre needs to consider its image with overseas tourists. .

A must see!
Mar 2019
I wasn't very aware of what Kabuki was before coming to Japan, but this Tour was the perfect introduction. Sayuki was charming and able to give us historical background on the play and the area, we chatted about her experience as a Geisha and living in Japan before the play and afterword cleared up quite a few issues. Even though she was able to provide us with subtitle translators there were still some elements and details that were lost in the viewing. The show itself was really interesting especially on how different it was to traditional European theater.
A definite recommendation for anyone in Tokyo
