About
Yanesen is considered as the Old Tokyo Neighborhood, or "shitamachi", which translates to low city. A popular activity here includes walking along wooden houses and silent temples while smelling fresh brewed coffee and spotting cats. The tour begins with a visit to the Nezu Shrine, one of the most beautiful shrine in Tokyo due to its slope of red torii gates. We continue the walking tour exploring paved alleys of old houses, temples and precious small traditional gardens. Later on, dive into the life of the locals with visits to small shops for second-hand kimono, traditional crafts, and local products. Lastly we move onto the peace and tranquillity of Yanaka Cemetery; this is the largest cemetery in Tokyo and is also surrounded by greenery that gets filled with beautiful cherry trees in spring. Enrich this tour by adding a traditional experience that is customized according to your preferences: food, drink or souvenir.

Very interesting experience
Feb 2020 • Friends
Joined the Yanaka tour invited by a friend and had a very nice experience. I had previously visited the Yanesen area some times, but the guide took us to some lesser known shops and paths. She was very knowledgeable about the area and its history, and the Maneki-neko (Lucky cat) painting experience was something I had never thought of doing (or that it was even available). If I have the opportunity I would likely repeat the experience with one of the other tours offered by Hatago.

A walking tour around Yanaka area
Feb 2020 • Friends
We were guided through Yanaka area, which is a quaint old district in Tokyo with many authentic shops and cafes. Our lovely guide told us about the history and architecture of the area. We visited one of the most beautiful shrines in Tokyo - Nezu Shrine. Other highlights of the day included painting our very own manekineko and strolling through an old-fashioned shop street. Overall it was a very pleasant experience!

A great tour even if you've been a 100 times in Tokyo!

I travel a lot, but even I was excited to discover new things on this tour. Michela, the guide, was very patient with us, kind and helpful, even when we took too long to take photos. She adjusted the tour to our needs on the go.
The cat painting cafe was such a cute hidden gem too!

The local side of Tokyo
Tokyo has many beautiful spots to visit amd especially for tourists, it is essential to tick off the most famous sights of Japan's capital city. Nevertheless, I can totally recommend this tour I did with Hatago to anyone who wants to get away from the tourist hotspots and just wants to explore the local, peaceful side of Tokyo.
Despite living in Tokyo for over 2 years now, I have never heard of Yanaka area. Thanks to Hatago Travel I got to experience it first-hand and I can say one thing: It was so worth it!
On this tour, we first went to Nezu Shrine which is fanous for its vibrant colours. I totally loved it!
After that we explored the streets for a while before moving on to go to our Maneki Neko painting workshop. It was in a cute little café that served so many cat cakes and other desserts, as well as drinks, art and kitchen utensils. The Maneki Neko workshop includes one drink and one little paw cake. If you choose the cat with thr left arm raised, it will bring good luck, if the right arm is raised it will bring money 😂
The painting was so much fun and super relaxing! Our guide was very helpful and fun to talk to!
After the Maneki Neko painting we went to the famous Yanaka Ginza shopping street. We saw many cafes and intereeting restaurants on our way there. At Yanaka Ginza we definitel saw some interesting shops. Definitely gotta come back to this are!
All in all, this tour was very amazing and I can recommend this to everyonee .

Dice was informative and attentive to details. We enjoyed the tour as if we were sight seeing with a friend. He had our interests in mind and customized to our likings. We chose the Japanese tea ceremony and I wore a kimono for the tour. Very happy clients!
