About
Mount Koya (高野山, Kōyasan) is the center of Shingon Buddhism, an important Buddhist sect which was introduced to Japan in 805 by Kobo Daishi (also known as Kukai), one of Japan's most significant religious figures. A small, secluded temple town has developed around the sect's headquarters that Kobo Daishi built on Koyasan's wooded mountaintop. It is also the site of Kobo Daishi's mausoleum and the start and endpoint of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage.

Despite the rainy weather, we got to see many sites in both locations and felt the value was worth the price. Our guide made good effort and was friendly but didn’t seem like they had a strong grasp on corralling the group from site to site. They also seemed to go on tangents when speaking and it seemed that by the end of the tour, people were no longer listening.Written 2 November 2024

When I booked it, I missed the fact that it was a private tour so that was a very happy surprise. Joe was our tour guide and he was really amazing and knowledgeable. He was so patient while I took all my photos and he navigated the crowds of tourists and school children with ease! We saw very beautiful sites and had a fantastic tour. Making people laugh in a different language is a skill, and she succeeded. The tour itself is good, nice lunch included, and all entrance fees. - Nicola F0 contributionsGreat day trip seeing Hiroshima!Hashi was our personal tour guide and she was so lovely and friendly and went at a pace that both myself and my mum could go at (mum was post knee reconstructions)! She was very informative on all areas we went to on the tour, especially around Miyajjma island and the areas of the Atomic Bomb and their memorials. We saw so much in one day, by train, ferry, light rail and walking, we covered it all and was very enjoyable! Highly recommend to anyone visiting Hiroshima!Written 20 September 2024

She showed us some things off the beaten track and explained the culture on Miyajima. She took us round the Hiroshima peace park and I felt helped us learn more about Japan. He explained many things we saw and gave us insight into his warm Japanese culture and the lives of people around the region. He introduced us to new food too. Kyoshi was an excellent guide. - 437callumn0 contributionsGreat experience - knowledgeable and friendly guideWe had a great time touring Hiroshima - our tour guide Joe was knowledgeable and very friendly and tailored the day to our specific requests/needs (i.e. it was very hot on the day so did some more indoor/undercover activities on Miyajima rather than being outside in the sun). We were running a bit late after lunch which would have meant we had to rush through the atomic bomb museum but Joe very kindly stayed overtime for no extra charge to make sure we got the most out of the experience.
