About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- H5481XEjohnh0 contributionsOff the chart outstanding. Our three hour kayak trip in the waters around Anacortes was great. Ruth and I had a wonderful time. Our guide, Emma, was knowledgeable, highly competent, professional, informative, and friendly. The boats and safety equipment were in top condition. We highly recommend Anacortes Kayak Tours and look forward to doing another trip in the future.Written 6 October 2024
- jodib5880 contributions5 hour tour of the San Juan islandsWe did a 5 hour Kayak in Anacortes to the San Juan Islands. Our guide was Cora she was an exceptional guide! She worked with us on how to get exactly to the targeted areas on the tour. She was cheerful, knowledgeable, and she gave information about the islands, the currents, and the sea life. She was a perfect example of how a guide should be. We left the tour with so much knowledge of what we had experienced!Written 15 September 2024
- jaycX4301XJ0 contributionsAn amazing Kayaking experience with the perfect guide. My wife has always wanted to Kayak near the San Juan Islands in hopes to see Orca. Anacortes Kayak Tours came highly recommended. We were a little tentative about kayaking in the open waters of the bay since we are seniors and have only kayaked on a fresh water lake before. All our concerns were quickly put at ease by our tour guide, Cora. She was not only very knowledgeable about kayaking and the history of the Islands, but she was such a down to earth person with who we shared stories about everything on our trip. I feel, not only, that Cora was the perfect guide but also like we made a friend. I highly recommend Anacortes Kayak Tours, and ask for Cora but I'm certain all the guides share the same professionalism.Written 28 August 2024
- R8500CVjimh0 contributionsTrip of a lifetimePaddling through the San Juan Islands was on my bucket list. My friends and I chose a San Juan Island to Anacortes, 5-Days, One Way, Fully Catered trip. Everything from the setting to the guides, the equipment and the food was excellent. Truly an unforgettable experience!Written 28 August 2024
- W1805XLalexj0 contributionsRelaxing Bowman Bay guided kayak tourGreat experience with a fantastic guide (Shalem) . Highly recommended! That said, two suggestions to the crew: don't charge $45 for a 4 year old, get the gear on faster for more time in the water.Written 24 August 2024

- bikerjff0 contributionsGreat trip with excellent guide ShelemMy wife and I, plus 2 female friends, shared a pair of double kayaks, on a 3-hour paddle with 2 other customers and our guide Shelem. The day was somewhat cool and cloudy but it didn’t rain on us and the trip was just perfect. Shelem was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the local plant and animal life. It turned out that he had also worked at a restaurant we knew back in Ohio so we had that bit of common bond. The entire experience was just wonderful.Written 21 August 2024

- candymV3129NU0 contributionsBeautiful Day on the WaterIf you're a beginner on the water considering a kayak company, Anacortes Kayak Tours felt organized, safe and professional. Did a lovely little kayak day-trip from Anacortes with our guide, Shelem, who showed us all kinds of cool wildlife up close - from curious sea lion pups to starfish and other neat shoreline critters. Stopped midway to explore a tiny island with a historic lighthouse, and spied a big old sea lion sunbathing. Will adventure with AKT again for sure! (I'm thinking an overnight further up in the islands next time to really unplug - and if we're lucky, maybe see some orcas! ) 🌝Written 10 August 2024
- kenazc20240 contributionsSunset & Bioluminescence SpecialThis was an amazing experience! Our guides Molly, Ben, and Alec were amazing. We started by paddling out a short distance and watching a gorgeous sunset, then paddling about halfway back to a small inlet to wait for the sky to fully darken. There were some bigger waves, so be warned if you are easily seasick, but my friend and I loved it! As the stars came out our guides told us about the science of the bioluminescence and a story from the Sammish people regarding it. When is was dark enough we started to see the bioluminescence and it was amazing! Truly an experience like no other I cannot recommend it enough! I would recommend pants and a jacket, it gets pretty cold and the kayaking was not very strenuous with relatively long periods of stillness. The night of my trip it was 68F in Anacortes at the time but felt much colder. Also check moon rise times and moon phases as they can effect the visibility of the bioluminescence.Written 6 August 2024
- 213ceceliac0 contributionsFantastic private multi-day tripWe worked with the amazing folks at AKT to design a 3 day private trip for a group of 9 friends late this July from Orca’s to Sucia + Pathos islands and WOW did it exceed expectations! The planning process could not have been easier thanks to Megan’s incredible patience, expertise, and willingness to work with our group’s nuances (including a 20-wk pregnant participant, numerous dietary restrictions, and some numbers changes). She held our hands through the process, she and Emma checked in multiple times to confirm details, and truly made the challenging logistics feel simple. Our trip itself was led by the exceptionally fun, aspirationally chill/experienced/competent guide duo of Liam and Shelem who felt like friends by the end of our trip and provided the right amount of adaptation on the fly to keep our group challenged and happy. They even did a late night bioluminescence paddle, which was so magical + cool. Most importantly, they were very focused on conditions and safety, were transparent with us about their thought process, and made all of us feel remarkably comfortable and confident in an unfamiliar activity/environment. Also, food was yummy and we were all so thankful we paid extra to have them handle this for us. Portions were generous, we definitely worked up an appetite paddling! Wildlife can’t be planned but we saw numerous seals (+babies!), bald eagles, herons, porpoise, and a humpback whale! The San Juan islands are so gorgeous - rain and shine, they took our breath away. Could not recommend this team more thoroughly, would absolutely work with them again in the future.Written 6 August 2024
- RockyMtnDiver0 contributionsGreat experienceWe went on the Sunset/Bioluminescence kayak tour with Ben and Jake. They told us to wear shoes that can get wet, but Ben and Jake had us get in the kayak on the beach and then pulled us into the water. What service! ❤️ We loved paddling along the shore and hearing about the area and wildlife as we went. We had the perfect night with no wind so it was an easy paddle. We saw birds, seals and Jake pulled a crab out of some bull kelp to show us. Once it got dark (we chose a date when the moon was new) we began to see the bioluminescence. At first it was just a few sparkles in the water, but as it got darker, there were more and more. It was amazing. I have never seen anything like it and likely never will again. What an awesome experience. Just some other info: we chose to reschedule because of the rain and Megan was very accommodating. There is really no need to bring a phone/camera as it’s too dark to take photos and it’s really hard to get to your phone once you have the pfd and the spray-skirt on. (Unless you put it in the dry bag and attach it to the kayak. I brought a water bottle and it fit in the bungies in front of me but I wished I’d brought a carabiner just to make it more secure. I also brought gloves as I thought my hands would get cold and I put them in the dry bag they provided for me. Unless your gloves are waterproof, there is no need to bring gloves as your hands will definitely get wet. Because of the spray-skirt, only my hands and sleeves got wet and I really didn’t get that cold. We got lucky and had a small group - 8 people - but they take larger groups as well. I definitely recommend this amazing experience with this great company.Written 4 August 2024
- MeganL7870 contributionsMajestic experienceOur afternoon 3 hour kayak tour was majestic. We lucked out with calm glassy waters; we saw harbor seals, harbor porpoises, my son got to hold a jellyfish, and we tasted bull kelp leaves around Young Island. Cora, our guide, is amazing; she was thorough and helpful with a kayaking refresher (the pedals were new for us) and she is engaging bringing the bay to life for us and creating hands on learning for my fresh 5 year old. We loved our experience and if we make our way up to Anacortes Island again we will sign up for another kayak tour.Written 7 July 2024
- 283gregh0 contributionsKnowledgeable and Fun GuideWe did the early morning kayak tour and it was wonderful. Our guide Jacob was knowledgeable about the sea life and wildlife we encountered. We were out during low tide so we were able to enjoy searching for starfish and other creatures on the shores of the islands we toured around. Everything from checking in on arrival and getting geared up was easy. I highly recommend this experience.Written 6 July 2024
- jenniferlQ5704UR0 contributionsMisty MajestyOur kayaking trip was exquisite even in some rain and drizzle. We saw porpoises, seals, huge bald eagles, oyster-catchers, a jellyfish, and other wildlife. The guide, Shalem, had a delightful attitude and clearly enjoyed not only his work as a guide but the natural beauty around him. Kayaking itself was a new experience for us, but a good one - I loved feeling the kayak gliding through the water as I paddled, & the longer we were out, the more confident I felt handling it. Two in our group sat in a double kayak while I and my niece used singles. All of us enjoyed the experience. I cannot wait to go again. My only advice is to wear gloves! I still have a couple of blisters on my hands. Otherwise I wouldn’t change anything. ATK is an excellent company that showed care and competence in all aspects.Written 4 July 2024

We were so thankful that the day we were to kayak the winds were 14-17mph and they agreed to reschedule us. Phew! Mike was our guide the next week and he was knowledgeable, patient with fitting my very tall husband with the rudder foot pedals and very professional. When a guide loves what he does, it is contagious! Next time in Anacortes we will go out again with Anacortes Kayak.

A really nice 90 minute tour around several little islands in Deception Pass. Kayaks were well maintained, safety was strongly observed and our guide, Sasha was friendly and informative. Bring an extra $10 to get into the state park where the launch is located in Bowman Bay. Don’t bring too much stuff because the splash skirt you wear will cut you off at the waist so you can’t get to things in your lap, and there’s not really a place to put other things, like a cell phone. Just enjoy an hour and a half being in the moment.

We recently went as a family on the Quickie kayak tour and all of us agree that it was a great experience! I accidentally booked the tour the day before our intended date and although they had to take a small fee for the inconvenience, they were very accommodating. They were able to book us for a date and time we wanted.
Being novices, the tour guide was able to teach us the basics and also talked to us about whatever we observed in the water. He also eased our fears about anything that could go wrong along the way and was patient with us as we were learning. Overall, I highly recommend reserving a spot if you’re ever in the Anacortes area!

We did the Bioluminescent 3 hour kayaking tour. It was 3 hours of paddling with plenty of time to check in, get into life jackets and instructions before that. We had Nikki and Sam as our guides. Though the info mail clearly mentioned, we somehow forgot to carry our jackets. They both went out of their way to arrange jackets for us. We would have been really chilly without those.
They were really great guides and very helpful. They took care of everyone in the group from novices to expert kayakers. They took us out for the view of a beautiful sunset. And then we paddled to dark coves where we saw the magical bioluminescence. It really was a wonderful sight. Stars in the sky and inside the water too. That was something that you really have to see once in your lifetime.
And I am happy that we did this with AKT. They made our experience very amazing from start to end. We would recommend them in a heartbeat to our friends.

We thoroughly enjoyed our kayaking trip! We went with a group of 11 during our camping trip at Deception Pass State Park. It was great for all the ages we had: 4-11 year old kiddos and all us grownups. Not only was guide verbally engaging throughout (the safety demonstration, the time on the water, and getting back up onto land), Blake took his time making sure all guests felt comfortable and heard. He took us into the beautiful waters around the park—through kelp forests, up next to rocky cliffs and small islands, describing wildlife, plant life, and geographic features. We saw a moon jellyfish, porpoises, oystercatchers, decorator crabs, great blue herons, and best of all, Blake steered us near (but not too close!) to a group of harbor seals that included 2 pups! All were delighted. He patiently answered the questions of the kids. As a parent, I really appreciated how he gave responses, asked questions in return, admitted when he didn’t know something, and gave ideas for future research once home—great modeling for our young ones. This was a fab excursion for our group, just the right amount of time during our camping trip. Thanks so much!

A so so experience. We signed up mostly to learn about the local marine life but it really just turned into a kayak excursion which we could have done on our own. The highlight of it was eating kelp.
To be fair to the guide, he was too busy corralling the party which consisted of wildly different skill levels and didn't seem to have the time to go into any details about the place.

Sometimes on these shorter trips we have a variety of abilities which can make it a challenge for the guides. They do try their best to engage everyone. It is unfortunate that you didn't get the information that you were hoping for. We try to create meaningful experiences for everyone, but it appears that we fell short of the mark this time.
Thank you for the feedback. We will relate this to the staff and try to make sure that we do better next time.
If you decide to try one of our longer trips then make sure that you mention to our office staff when you are booking that you are hoping to learn about marine life. We will make a note of it and do everything that we can to make sure that we meet your expectations.
Thanks for joining us!

We have several family joining the 1.5 hour too, but cannot all fit into the same time slot. The owner was very considerate, opened up a tour just for us so that we can all kayak together. Appreciate their consideration very much!
The tour guide helped everyone with gears set up, educated us on the bay, the seaweed....overall experience is very pleasant!

Took the bioluminescence Tour, you paddle out of the bay to catch the sunset, watch porpoise feed in the outgoing tide, and wait for dark. Once the sun goes down, back into the bay and start splashing around to light up the bioluminescence algae. You feel like a kid splashing in the bathtub :) It's a little eerie but also peaceful being out in the ocean at night on a kayak but they have the system down. Everyone wears glow lights which is fun to see dancing across the water. The guides were fantastic, very informative, and easy to work with. Already planning a group for next year.

We set up a sunset and bioluminescence trip for several of my new colleagues after moving in to the area - it was incredible! The weather was perfect and both the sunset and the biolum were breathtaking! The guides were friendly and informative, and did a great job keeping such a large group together. They're not kidding when they say no experience required, although they brought out the triples for our group and it helped that some of us had a little paddling experience. Will definitely do again, and can't wait to try one of their longer tours!
