Once on board, they served a great cocktail and continued to offer to keep your glass filled. The food was great and plenty of it. Highly recommend sailing with Traditions.Written 15 June 2024

- J8785STsusanm0 contributionsFriendly, easy-going sail on a gorgeous sloopLaurie and Deb, and their magnificently cared for sailboat Tradition are a must-do while in Anguilla. Laurie regaled with history and interesting stories about the island. They brought us out to Little Bay to see the rock formations, serving a delicious spread of hors d’œuvres and endless punch. A perfect way to end out a day on this beautiful island.Written 2 June 2024
- dcathoops0 contributionsBelieve all the reviews!Believe all the reviews you see here on TA. The boat is beautiful, the crew is wonderful, food and drinks were top notch. I love taking sunset cruises, but my wife was a little nervous about 2.5 hours, but it was fantastic. She loved it. Laurie and Deb were tremendous hosts with great stories of the history of Anguilla and their own personal history as well. Well worth the costWritten 1 June 2024
- catcarter1150 contributionsAmazing Evening.Amazing sailing experience with Deb and Laurie. First class experience and service. The beverages were unlimited and the small bites food was a lovely presentation and delicious.Written 27 May 2024
- caitlinmoyna0 contributionsJust book it - NOW!!After reading the reviews, we decided to book the Tradition trip to Prickly Pear, and boy it did not disappoint! It started before the trip when Captain Laurie and Deb spoke with me about my concerns regarding my husband's broken foot and how he would get on and off the boat. They assured me all would be ok, and indeed, they made every effort to accommodate him. So glad he did come along because he agrees it was our best day on Anguilla. We were treated to a history lesson first, then a lovely sail out to Prickly Pear, followed by snorkeling among thousands of colorful fish, and the most amazing lobster meal on the beach. After that, we enjoyed chatting with the group as Deb poured us many adult beverages, delivering them right to us in the water. The day was capped off with a perfect sail back to Sandy Ground, warm chocolate chip cookies, and more beverages. All the guests got along so well with each other, which was largely a testament to how comfortable Laurie and Deb made us feel. The entire Tradition crew worked tirelessly all day long to ensure we would have an incredible experience - which is exactly what we did!! Can't say enough great things about this adventure - just go ahead and book it so you see for yourself!Written 20 May 2024
- Mary D0 contributionsDefinitely worth the wait! Our Saturday sail was cancelled due to weather but fortunately they were able to reschedule for Sunday. The weather was perfect, the crew was attentive, the meal was delicious and the sailing was delightful. Captain Laurie, Deb and Bea kept us entertained all day long. So many great things about this adventure but you need to experience it for yourself. Definitely the highlight of our week in Anguilla.Written 10 May 2024
- JordanaS10000 contributionsPerfect sailing dayThird time to Anguilla and third Tradition trip. The day sail to Prickly Pear was perfect in every way — the crew is phenomenal and attentive, the time on sea and land is perfect. Do not hesitate to book with Laurie and Deb. Top-notch, high-end experience.Written 8 May 2024
- taralP4756KT0 contributionsAmazing Sunset Cruise of Anguilla! The most amazing sunset sail! We would truly recommend to everyone. I contacted Deb last minute and she was able to accommodate our group. Thomas was super knowledgeable about the island and Baya had prepared delicious Hors D'oeuvre that were a hit. The open bar was definitely a plus! We will definitely be sailing with Tradition when we return to Anguilla!Written 7 May 2024
- Laurie7670 contributionsLong Time Visitors Have a great Evening on the WaterWe've been going to Anguilla for over 30 years (to a spot with a great sunset view) and never felt compelled to take a sunset cruise. This year my adult daughter and her husband (he is a first timer to Anguilla) came for a visit and I decided it might be fun for him to get to see more of the island. Additionally, we invited family friends who basically call Anguilla a second home. I was surprised at what a unique experience Traditions provides, from the historical aspect of the boat itself to giving even jaded visitors another way to view Anguilla. It was a fantastic evening out on the water. Laurie and Deb provide everything necessary for a perfect sail. Pelicans, gorgeous coastline and wonderful drinks and snacks made for a terrific evening! I highly recommend, even for long time Anguilla visitors!!Written 24 April 2024
- E9762NNbobm0 contributionsAnother Prickly Pear Day in Anguillan ParadiseThis was our second Prickly Pear Cay day sail with Tradition. Our first trip, during a visit to ex-pat friends in Anguilla, was amazing. This repeat trip for the four of us was every bit as good, and possibly even better due to our relative familiarity with what to expect. With an initial greeting at the dock at Sandy Ground at 9 o'clock in the morning, a short dinghy ride out to Tradition - a magnificent and lovingly preserved wooden sailing ship constructed by hand, and welcome mimosas (or fresh squeezed OJ for those not imbibing so early in the morning), the kickoff to the day's journey was flawless. Our departure from Sandy Ground harbor was preceded by a thorough safety briefing by Captain Laurie. His breadth of Anguillan and Caribbean sailing, commerce, shipbuilding, and bootlegging history is boundless, and he was generous in sharing his knowledge with us. Along with Captain Thomas and Deb, our experienced first mate and guest services director, our foursome and seven other instant best friends were in capable and safety conscious hands. Once out of the harbor, the sails were hoisted and the engine was cut. We experienced the beautiful soothingly quiet sounds of the sea and the wind, the sights around us from the sea spray to the far off horizon, and the feel of the powerful ocean beneath our feet as the breeze and sun enveloped us. We sailed along briskly and Tradition heeled over gently under 100% wind power. The sun shone down and the warm sea breeze enveloped us. Not a care in the world! The fun was non-stop, as were the provisions (including libations, alcoholic and not), which were available all day long. As we turned between two small spits of land to approach Prickly Pear Cay, we saw large numbers of brown boobies and their light-colored baby chicks, a welcome sight that we were told signaled the rejuvenation of their local population. Reaching Prickly Pear Cay, an uninhabited island with beach chairs, island tunes, and a kitchen for day visitors, we anchored off shore and settled in for some serious snorkeling along the extensive reef system that lies just off shore. Coral of every description - sadly experiencing the bleaching that is being seen worldwide - was the backdrop for a variety of brightly colored fish. Last year, jellyfish were everywhere, and we were happy to not see them this time. Near shore, there were many yellowtail snapper cruising in the shallow water above the fine sandy bottom. Lunch was either Anguillan lobster or ribs. Last year, my wife and I went half-sies, but this year all four of us had the lobster. It did not disappoint! It was prepared perfectly, served hot, and tasted absolutely scrumptious with sides of slaw, rice and beans, and curried potatoes. After a little siesta time in the sun with a bright green rum punch, a game of cornhole on the beach, or sitting in the shade provided by low-hanging fronds of the beach palm trees - my preference - we swam or snorkeled back out to Tradition to prepare for the sail back to Sandy Ground. We were treated to fresh fruit and giant home-baked chocolate chip cookies on the return sail. As the mid-afternoon sun drifted slowly toward the west, we saw Sandy Ground coming slowly into view, signaling the end of another Prickly Pear day in the paradise called Anguilla.Written 17 April 2024
- mcclellan770 contributionsAmazing Sailing Adventure! Highly RecommendThe boat crew was very accommodating and made our sailing adventure comfortable, safe, and memorable! We would highly recommend any families looking for a boating experience in a smaller group with an amazing staff! On our trip, we snorkeled near the Prickly Island and saw two stingrays! After our lunch on the island, we jumped back on the boat to enjoy snacks, watermelon, and cookies! And we even caught a barracuda on the fishing line traveling back to Sandy Ground! Thank you to the staff for making this an adventure our family will remember forever.Written 24 March 2024
- MrBVermont0 contributionsSunset Cruise in AnguillaMy wife and I had a wonderful experience on the traditions sunset cruise. We enjoyed everything the crew, drinks, food and fellowship with the other passengers. It was an absolutely wonderful experience we would defiantly go again and recommend this trip to others. It was really fun!Written 19 March 2024
- LianeDavey0 contributionsPerfect Paradise on Prickly PearThis was the perfect day! Laurie, Deb, and Dylan created such a warm and fun experience where every last thing was thought of. We had a great cruise, fun snorkelling with many beautiful fish, an amazing feast of lobster, and the yummiest chocolate chip cookies on the way home. It was especially nice to actually sail rather than running under motor! I would highly recommend Tradition to anyone.Written 10 March 2024

Just an amazing day onboard "Tradition"! Our family of (4) said it was the best part of our trip. The day was picture perfect, Laurie, Deb & Thomas were so welcoming, full of great stories and very accommodating to our every need. I especially loved the refills of rum punch with freshly grated nutmeg, great touch! The lunch was so delicious and fresh. We all wanted to book the sunset sail but just didn't have enough time. We will be back to Anguilla one day and first thing will be a sunset sail on "Tradition".

This is what I intended to write. Deb, Lawrie, Thomas and Hanna are as advertised, experienced, easy to speak with and authentic. We sailed to Little Bay, while sipping mimosas, where we anchored. Deb served a great lobster roll with a very good salad. Chocolate chip cookies and excellent rum punch got back to the dock. A wonderful day in a short rain and pleasant sunshine.
Then the bad part for us. I locked my car keys in the trunk of my rented car. After spending thirty minutes trying to get someone to open the truck, Lawrie came past and ask what the problem was. He then drove us to our resort where we picked up spare keys. Lawrie then drove us back to our car and argued about taking gas money. We were sold on Traditions Sailing but that was over the top. THANK YOU!

Thanks so much for the lovely review Steve. Laurie was pleased to be able to offer assistance, and yes, it's the way we roll at Tradition Charters! We hope the rest of your time in Anguilla was without any pesky incidents and you fell in love with the rest of the island. See you next time!

The Tradition half day beach excursion is an amazing experience. The staff is attentive and very professional. The wooden sloop we travelled on is very rich in history. At the beginning of the trip Lawrence Gumbs, the owner, detailed the boat's historical past.
We had a wonderful time though the ride over was a bit choppy. However, once we got to the island the white sandy beach was great and the lobster lunch was out of this world! DO NOT hesitate to make this excursion a must-do while you are in Anguilla. I highly recommend it. It's a great value and and a great day out on the sea.

I’m sooooo glad we did this and not charter a private boat. It was way safer bc the captain and crew REALLY know their stuff and cared about the clients. We met amazing people and it was so peaceful on a sailing boat and not a loud motor boat. You got to learn soooo much from the crew and captain. This was the highlight of our trip. Good food, good people, peaceful, fascinating experience. They really took care of us and educated us about sailing in Anguilla and Caribbean for hundreds of years. It was an EPIC experience.

We had the best day of our vacation in Anguilla on the Tradition Sailboat. We opted for the half day sail and snorkel adventure and it turned out to be all we had hoped for and more. Not only was the boat beautiful and in immaculate condition, but Laurie, Deb, Hannah and Thomas were such a delight and pleasure to spend time with. They were so warm, kind and professional. They took us to a wonderful spot to snorkel, which was quite beautiful, and the homemade food they served was DELICIOUS, one of the best lobster rolls I have ever had, and I've had quite a few. The champagne and rum punch was constantly flowing, and the other guests on board were a lot of fun. As soon as we got out of the water, there was always someone there waiting with a fresh towel. Service could not have been better. I had lost my wallet in our hotel, and Laurie was so kind and patient and caring and really went out of his way to try and help me find it and for that I am very grateful. When we go back to Anguilla, we will definitely sign up for any and all of the excursions he offers.

Captain Laurie, Deb, Thomas and Hannah we’re so wonderful in making us feel at home while we sailed on this beautiful, historic sailboat. We snorkeled and could cliff dive at Little Bay. At Little Bay we saw lots of turtles, a stingray, a variety of colorful fish & remoras. We had the pleasure of sailing with Luke & Ali (newlyweds from Denver, Colo) which made our day even better! The homemade Fresh Lobster Roll was the Best Lobster I have ever eaten. The fresh Mediterranean salad, tarrow chips, fresh watermelon and yummy homemade chocolate chip cookies were delicious! I highly recommend this sailing adventure to everyone who visits Anguilla!! This is a day you’ll never forget! Thank You Laurie, Deb, Thomas and Hannah!

We did the day sail and lunch to Prickly Pear. Deb, Laurie and crew do a great job! This was our fifth time and it’s always the highlight of out time in Anguilla. This year not only is your lunch but drinks, chairs and umbrellas at PP are included in the price. Can’t wait to return next year.

From start to finish the crew were fantastic and made our family of four most welcome. A truly memorable day of sailing, first class snorkeling, rock jumping and an excellent lobster lunch topped off with a couple of rum punches and local soft drinks for the kids. An absolute must and we will be back!
