What is Travellers’ Choice?
Tripadvisor gives a Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
This tour takes you for a relaxing and informative stroll through the quaint town of Speightstown which is always awash with activity but somehow maintains its British colonial charm. Our tour package, which is tailored for small groups, is aimed at maximizing the authentic experience of a Speightstown tour through the eyes of an informed local. The most defining feature of Speightstown is the 17th century pre-colonial architecture. You will get to visit and learn the stories behind historic buildings that date back to the early settlements as you experience the sense of development that has taken place in the town which is evident by the integration of modern architecture. With forts lining the coasts of Barbados, one would expect that Little Bristol would also have its share of protection. You will also get to interact with the people of Speightstown. The wayside hawkers and rum shops are still very much a part of this town.

    Essential Bridgetown
Evan was a VERY knowledgeable tour guide and made a fun and informative tour. We finished early so I picked out a couple of extra places to walk to, and we stopped at a Chocolate factory for a delicious ice-cream. A really great walk around of Bridgetown, into local Market halls, shopping districts and historical places. Also with informative about future plans fir Bridgetown.

    Great walking tour of Bridgetown
Evan was a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. We enjoyed seeing Bridgetown and learning about the history. Afterwards, we were given some good lunch recommendations. I would definitely recommend this walking tour !

    A must when in Barbados!
This was such a special walking tour! Evan, our guide, was such a gem and kept us captivated for over two hours. His incredible story telling skills are remarkable, the way he shared the history of this beautiful island, the good and the tragic. I left with a deeper appreciation for this island and its people. Cannot recommend this tour highly enough!

    Rich in British History
Barbados is often called Little England because of its lasting British influence. Bajans love to share their culture with you as we saw when touring the city. They love their Cricket Matches, surfing or just sunning on the many beaches. We tried their Mount Gay Rum as well as a conkie which is a pumpkin/coconut cake which is steamed on banana leaves.

    Excellent Tour!!!
Excellent Tour!!! Our guide was very knowledgeable on Bridgetown and Barbados. There is a lot of history there. It was good to see the markets. Out guide was able to answer all our questions. He did it without any bias, in other words, he could talk about slavery and other injustices that are part of the history of Barbados without making us uncomfortable.

    Guide was late but good.
I would give this a 5 but the guide showed up about 20 minutes late, just when I was about to leave. The tour was great and I received a lot of individual attention (being the only one on the tour). He took his time and had a good sense of humor. We had a discussion about the number of hurricanes that have hit Barbados in recent years; I said none and he insisted it was more than that. It was pretty funny, actually. And if you don't believe that Barbados hasn't been hit by a hurricane in recent memory, look it up!

Learnt some interesting facts about Bridgetown...
Our guide arrived 40 minutes late, blaming the traffic, however he was very knowledgeable once there taking us to the historical sites in Bridgetown such as heroes square, the Jewish quarter, churches over a two hour period. Bottled water, snacks & audio headphones in a yellow bag were supplied.

informative way to see the historical sites of the capital. easy to book & great guide - thank you.
My daughter & I did this tour & our guide was Evan. It was easy to book & clear instructions where to meet. Our guide arrived with cold water and snacks (a really thoughtful touch) and an amazing knowledge of the city & it's history - showing informative pictures to help as we went along. We really enjoyed our tour & would recommend it to others.

    Barbadian History Unlocked
My family and I had a great time on our Bridgetown, Barbados Walking Tour. Our guide Mr. Evan did a phenomenal job of taking us to interesting landmarks and explain the history and details of our surroundings. It was a pretty hot day when we toured, but our guide came prepared with water and snacks in a nice nap sack that we got to keep as a souvenir. Lots of historical pictures were provided along the tour, so we could see what the area looked like, during colonial times, in comparison to modern day. As we walked around, we were able to get a glimpse and understand the rich history of Bridgetown. Highly recommend bringing a good attitude, a readiness to learn, lots of questions, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and an umbrella. It’s a great tour and you won’t regret it. Would definitely come back and do another tour with Mr. Evan.

Deborah met me as arranged at the hotel pick-up and even returned me to Massey as I needed to do shopping after the tour.

I spent a very enjoyable couple of hours walking through Speightstown with a running commentary from Deborah.

She not only answered all my questions about Speightstown but my other ‘tourist questions’ as well. e.g. what is the small cherry sized fruit street vendors in Swan Street, Bridgetown? Well they are ‘Dunks’ in season during January and February.

I saw the Speightstown Mural close up and Deborah explained the history of Barbados that it tells, from Amerindians to Independence and continuing, with Errol Barrow holding a broken trident.

I was reminded why the Chattel Houses are built off the ground. The are built of ground and in panels so that they are easily moveable. A left over from the old plantation days when you might get asked to leave. This way you take your house with you.

My tip: Don’t be put off that the meeting point is an obscure seeming roundabout. Get in touch and negotiate a pick up and return.

Carlo gave a *great* tour of Speightstown. He's done an incredible amount of work to assemble a thorough and enjoyable tour. The history of this town is amazing and Carlo makes it come alive. You can imagine all the forts that lined the shores, the signals being transmitted across the island when danger was spotted at sea, and how the buildings along the waterfront were used. I am glad to learn about the important role that S'town has had in Barbados history. Carlo is also full of knowledge about Barbados today which was equally interesting. I highly recommend this tour and it's a 'must do' if you are a history buff.

Christen, our guide, was very welcoming when we arrived at the meeting point. He was interested in everyone on the tour and how often we had visited Barbados. The amount of visits did not translate to knowledge, however as there were people on our tour who had visited many time but had not seen much and did not know much about the history. Christen’s knowledge of Speightstown and the history of Barbados was very good and he made the tour very interesting and enjoyable. I would recommend this tour.

A really interesting tour. More about the history of Barbados than Speightstown specifically but Kristin was really knowledgable and friendly. Good to take time to look at the buildings and their history which you might miss on your own. Nice bars and restaurants to cool down afterwards.

Took a morning tour with Christien yesterday. For such a small town there is so much history, good & bad. We finished off with lunch at the Fishermans Pub on his recommendation. Thanks for the tour 👍

We are happy that you got to appreciate our small town of Speightstown. Small in size, but big in character. Ending off with local food from Fisherman's Pub is just the icing you need for this cake. Thank you for sharing your experience and we hope to be able to welcome you back on tour sometime in the future.

This was an amazing tour and Kristin was an even better guide. We had him twice for two different tours and he didn’t disappoint! It’s evident that he’s a very knowledgeable guide and has a passion for Barbados history, and future. We especially enjoyed Kristin’s and the tour’s emphasis on the Black experience. As a Black people, it was important to hear a nuanced account of the island’s Black histories and contributions. Yes, Barbados is a majority Black country, but most of our experiences glossed over Black history other than mentioning “slavery.” Kristin made us feel respected and engage with a history that put us at the center and not along the margins. It’s in the name Chattel House. This tour and experience with Kristin enjoyable and educational.
