- Paul W0 contributionsgreat tour with prompt pickup at our Abnb in Las Terrenas. Its better to wait until mid February. Very few whalesGreat tour. Prompt pickup. Good lunch. Had time to hang out on a beach. Better to wait until mid February as there are few whales here now.Written 17 January 2025
- O1832WRalexw0 contributionsAmazing natural and cultural experienceOur kayak trip through the mangroves and the Bahía de San Lorenzo to Cueva La Arena was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, José, was very helpful, super friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the cultural and natural history of the area. He taught us about the mangrove ecosystem, pointed out birds and crabs and led us safely to and from the cave. The journey was amazing, including the karst limestone coast after you emerge from the mangroves. The cave itself is awesome. There is a tiny beach where you land, which you will have to share with other tour groups coming in and out on motorized boats from time to time but if you can hang out for a while you may have it more or less to yourself for a bit, which is priceless. We saw indigenous petroglyphs depicting faces of the gods, designed to protect those sheltering in the cave from storms and danger, historic inscriptions from the 1800s, bats, stalactites, etc. Our guide waited until the other groups had cleared out so we could experience the cave all to ourselves, which made it extra special. The journey involves some physical exertion. A first-time kayaker could probably handle it but it would be a bit of a workout. Bring plenty of water, snacks/ lunch, hat, sunscreen, raincoat, etc. Highly recommend!Written 12 November 2024

- W8828BFwilliamb0 contributionsGood experience and would recommend this activity if you have never seen whales breaching before. It was very good and the whales were really cooperative. However, the boat was jammed with a lot of people and it was close to impossible to get any photos. Luckily, many of the people lost interest after 30 minutes which allowed others to move closer to the railing. On our way back to port, half of the group got out because they had booked a full day's activity - so did the guide without telling us what to do. So, when we got back to port, we had no idea where our bus was or who to speak to.Written 1 March 2024

- gabymendieta19600 contributionsEspectacularYou have to go! We booked it through TripAdvisor, they confirmed the tour & picked us up on time from the hotel in a van, took us to the port & sailed to the whales’ sanctuary. It was amazing! We almost touch them, we were really closed to them. Then, we went to the Cayo Levantado, had lunch: delicious, stayed on the beach, saw dolphins too! Excellent experience! We totally recommend it.Written 28 March 2023

- bluedabadedabado0 contributionsSuperb half day trip, saw loads of whales!Absolutely phenomenal. It's over a decade since I was last here and top of my to do list this time was to re-do a whale watching trip. Our children were thrilled! We saw LOTS of humpback whales. The trip sets off very early, 5am from the hotel so expect tired kids as by the time you've done the bus trip to the boat, then it's a good hour and a half out to see, then approx 30 mins actually with the whales, then about half hour to the (stunning) island of Samana, then some bites to eat and amazing cocktails straight from fresh coconuts through straws... Then all the way back again it's more a 3/4 if the day trip. Definitely do it though, you don't regret it! The photo taken was one my better half took. That's how close they get - they were leaping about in the water, splashing their tails, the lot 👌🐳Written 7 April 2020
