What to expect
Get deep inside the natural world of Puerto Rico on this 7-hour, small-group adventure exploring the more than 60 caves and shelters of the Cabachuelas de Morovi system. Take advantage of special access to this unique subterranean network, located on private property among the bizarre limestone karst formations of the island’s northern coast.  Start the day with pickup around 8am in San Juan, heading out into the strange limestone karst peaks, also known as “haystacks” (mogotes) that dot the island's northern coast. As you arrive at the tour’s starting point, listen to a safety briefing from your guide as you don your equipment, including headlamp, backpack, kneepads, gloves and a helmet, before setting off. From there, the tour proceeds to four caves, each of which is located on restricted land in a subtropical forest nature reserve. Start at Angel Cave, where you’ll learn how this underground network was formed over millions of years, and view ancient petroglyphs created by the Taíno tribes that once sought shelter inside these rocks. Continue your journey as you scout for the cave network’s abundant wildlife. On the forest walks between each cave you’ll see many varieties of plants and insects, while the dark interior of the Lizard and Buruquenas caves is home to creatures including spiders, toads, crickets, bats, snakes and several types of crustaceans.  Hike up to 3 Floor Cave, where you’ll admire gorgeous views of the surrounding valley and forest. Then return to your transportation and head to a local restaurant for a hearty lunch of local fare including chicken, rice, beans, yucca and sweet plantains. With your hunger and urge for exploration now well-satisfied, head back to your hotel in San Juan for drop-off. Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.

Stop: 7 hours - Admission included
After hotel pickup in San Juan, travel with your knowledgeable guide to Las Cabachuelas de Morovis, a network of approx. 60 caves and shelters located in karst country. Marvel at the mogote, or 'haystack,' landscapes of northern Puerto Rico, strewn with overgrown karst limestone peaks. During your 7-hour tour you'll hike to four caves, located on private land in a subtropical forest that's designated as a nature reserve. Your in-the-know guide has made special arrangements with the landowners to allow your small group access to these sites. After a safety briefing, don your gear — including a helmet, headlamp, small backpack, and kneepads and gloves — and set off. In Angel Cave, your guide describes how the caves were formed over millions of years, identifies unique formations and points out petroglyphs created by the Tainos — possible descendants of the Arcaicos tribes — who once inhabited these limestone shelters. The Cabachuelas caves are also home to a dizzying array of ecosystems. Learn about the plant life and insects you pass by during your forest walks. In the caves of Lizard and Buruquenas, expect to encounter many creatures in the dark: spiders, crickets, bats, snakes, toads and a number of crustaceans. Hike up a hill and from inside 3 Floor Cave, look out an opening and capture beautiful views of the valley and forest floor. Around midday, climb back aboard the minivan and head to a local restaurant for hearty Puerto Rican fare, including chicken, rice, beans, yucca and sweet plantains. Your appetite for wondrous sights and delicious food satisfied, enjoy the ride back to your San Juan hotel, with a surprise souvenir in hand. Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.

Excellent tour, fun adventure
Dec 2020 • Solo
This tour blew away our expectations and ended up being one of our favorite experiences in Puerto Rico.
We had so much fun exploring the caves and caverns, and hiking up hidden pathways through the lush forest to get to the caves.
Our tour guide was full of knowledge about the local plants and wildlife. We shared lots of lively conversation, and he took great pictures and videos of us as we climbed through the forest and caves.
We would highly recommend this experience for anyone looking for adventure!

Cave tour was incredible!
Mar 2020 • Friends
We decided to go on the cave tour because we had heard from friends that spelunking in Puerto Rico was a must-do. SO happy that we signed up. The tour was extremely fun, especially if you’re more of an adventure seeker. Our guide, Robert, was knowledgeable and friendly. The caves themselves were unlike anything we’ve experienced. We finished with a great meal at a delicious local spot. Definitely check out the Cave Tours if you have the time!

Wonderful caving experience!
My husband and I had such a great time on our tour with Robert. The day started with a timely pickup at our AirBnB in a clean, comfortable SUV and a ride out to the caves. It was wonderful to get out of the city and see some of the countryside. Once we arrived at the location we were greeted by the wonderful welcoming committee of tour dogs which were our "guides" for the day. Robert provided our supplies and safety equipment and we set out on our hike. We experienced 4 different caves and all while hiking through the beautiful sub-tropical forests. Robert had us totally at ease with our safety and taught us so much about the caves, area around it and animals (bats, lizards, snakes, frogs, birds, insects) that we came across throughout the day. I have a slight fear of heights/tight spaces, but was able to enjoy the trip with some thrills along the way. After our caving tour we drove back towards San Juan and stopped at this AMAZING local spot for lunch. Seriously...so good. Robert picked a little bit of everything for us to try and it was some of the best food we had out whole trip (and we had great food before/after).

Highlights:
Beautiful caves
Awesome/knowledgeable tour guide
Fantastic tour dogs - it was so fun to watch them navigate the hike and caves (better than humans of course)
AMAZING FOOD.

I was saddened to hear from Robert of the decrease in tourism they are experiencing after Hurricane Maria and now the earthquake. We honestly felt very safe and had everything we needed. Go to Puerto Rico and go on some tours! Experience what this beautiful place has to offer with those who know best.

Thank you again Robert!

BOOK THIS!! -- Excellent Cave Tour and Professional Guide
Apr 2019 • Couples
I researched several Cave Tours for our trip to Puerto Rico. I'd read many TripAdvisor reviews that were mostly positive and figured we would give this tour a try. I am so happy I did. We reached out a week before our tour because we were going on a cruise. They responded promptly and were easy to work with. Robert, our guide, texted us the morning before to confirm pick up time and what vehicle he was driving as well as license plate. This made it super easy as we were being picked up from the cruise port after disembarking from our week long cruise. We wanted to spend an extra day in Puerto Rico and thought this would be a great way to do it. Robert was very professional throughout the tour. He made sure to tailor the trip not only to us but also to our 6 year old. He was quite knowledgeable about plants, birds, caves, geology, and history. He was very accommodating on every aspect. We explored 4 very different caves on our tour. He also was making video and taking pictures of our adventure to send to us. I am very much so looking forward to this. After our splendid caving tour he took us to a local eatery for a wonderful authentic lunch. The food was absolutely delicious. Book this tour if you want something unique and want to have a wonderful time.
