What to expect
  • St Barts is known as the Jewel of the Caribbean and you'll find out why when you sail there from St Maarten. You'll have free time to explore St Barts independently, take a guided tour, go shopping or just relax on one of the island's pristine beaches. St Barts is just a 45-minute sail from St Maarten's Pelican Marina. Departing Simpson Bay, you'll arrive in Gustavia Harbor, the hub of activity in St Barts. Sidewalk cafes offer crepes and croissants for breakfast, car rentals meet the boat, the taxi stand is a few feet away, and boutiques are open for business. The exceptional island of St Barts has white sandy beaches, great snorkeling locations, great restaurants and a unique shell museum. It's a day guaranteed to entertain, crammed with sights and delights! Enjoy lunch at a local burger shack, or go for fine dining at one of the exclusive beach side hotels. Many of the shops in Gustavia may close over the lunchtime period, so it's recommended to go shopping in the morning. Taxi island tours cost around US$12 per person, or privately for around US$50 for two. Check-in for the boat is at 3:45pm for the 4:00pm departure. Arrive back to Pelican Marina at approximately 4:45pm.

Took the Edge ferry catamaran to St Bart. Reading reviews before we booked we knew to expect it to be a rough ride and it was! One person got sick, and the crew took real good care of him. The ride back to St Maarten was really smooth and if you “survived” going you definitely will be okay returning. To ensure you don’t have any problems take something for motion sickness, before going on the ride. The Captain and his crew were very friendly and helpful! Even free drinks are offered on the ferry. Recommend this trip.

Fun ride over! Pick-up & drop-off from our hotel to the dock. Having read the previous reviews I was prepared for a very rough ride... chose to not have breakfast and sit up front... we had no issues! There were 4’ waves, but your crossing the ocean so that was expected.

I had mixed expectations because of all the negative reviews regarding sea sickness. I took my melt in your mouth motion sickness tablets and went aboard. The captain (who has been driving this ferry for 14 yrs) said it was a smooth day at sea. I guess your experience could very likely be based upon the conditions the day you travel. I grabbed the front seat—don’t sit right at the window you could get wet—and the trip was enjoyable and the captain very friendly and insightful. The ride back is much smoother—ALWAYS. St. Barths was lovely! I saw the runway while I was there and I can say that I would go by ferry again—for sure. Maybe check the weather conditions before committing. This ferry goes every other day.

We rode I've on the Edge 2 in seriously choppy waters! The captain was EXCELLENT in his handling if the high surf. Even though we had 4 or 5 breakers splash over the roof, the ship and the crew were handling everything well. The staff aided those who got seasick with kindness. When a traveler asked if their were enough life vests for everyone, the 1st mate took time to explain that it was a regulation,. Etc. Once we got to St. Barth...wow! Amazing! We saw Roman Abramovic' giant yacht with helicopter and submarine! Beautiful beaches! Well worth the trip. The ride back to St.Maarten was fast. We had the wind. Great Adventure! You gotta do it!!

DON'T FORGET YOUR PASSPORT!
Great value...If you are staying at the Simpson Bay Beach Resort... it is so conveniently located at their dock. Check in is a breeze. Ferry ride is around 45 minutes to get to St Bart with great views along the way. Pleasant staff offers you brand sodas (meaning not generic) or beer. How smooth is the ride depends on the ocean. Mine was a tiny rough in the morning but no one got sick. Return was a breeze! Arrival/Departure is easy.

2 of us took the EDGE II Ferry on Sat. Aug 17th from our resort, The Villas @ Simpson Bay Beach Resort & Marina @ Aqua Mania. The Cost, $100 USD p/p round trip. The ride over was a little choppy but I didn't see anyone get sick. The return was a much smoother ride. Took approx. 50 min. each way. Free drinks onboard were served as well. The EDGE II docked in GUSTAVIA and we walked up to Fort Karl overlooking Shell Beach, which was our next stop for a few hrs. What a GORGEOUS beach and lots of shells. The sea was crystal clear and turquoise. We then walked back to have lunch @ The Bar de l'Oubli, a delicious Croque Monsieur & Cheeseburger . Then for dessert, we went to Le Repaire for glace, directly across from the ferry terminal. The vessel was very clean and crew very nice. It was a great way to see Beautiful St. Barths in 1 day. Def. will return again when visiting SXM. A must do!

NOTE: DO SHOPPING 1st. when you get off the ferry. SHOPS close @ 1p-4p.
Enjoy! :) We did!

Merci Beaucoup EDGE II
