About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- aankher0 contributionsAn enjoyable morningWe are new to bird watching and enjoyed our birding tour with Binkie. We were able to see birds from the Caribbean as well as migratory birds. We visited some birding spots tucked away in unexpected places. It was a nice tour to enjoy nature and learn about the island.Written 17 January 2025
- pillows160 contributionsOutstanding Tours in St Maarten. We did two tours with Seagrape. Both were outstanding. Nascha was our guide for the Phillipsburg walking tour. It was so interesting hearing her stories and seeing sites with special attention to beautiful murals. She knows so many of the local people. And she is a fine artist in her own right having made a very interesting mural with community support She’s great at answering questions, especially about issues that are controversial/challenging. The next day we went with Werner on three nature hikes. The first was a coastal hike to back bay. The second was the “easy way”to peak paradise and the third was a coastal hike near oyster pond. All were excellent, beautiful views, interesting history and not particularly difficult. Seagrape tours is highly recommended.Written 15 January 2025
- X6806EWjons0 contributionsHighly recommended 10/10We highly recommend Seagrape tours for the excellent experience we had on the Foodie Culinary Tour. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the history, traditions, and food spots on the island, with a passion to share tips with visitors from an insider’s perspective. This trip made for the best start to learn about the island at the start of our stay in food spots we would have never found on our own. 10/10Written 31 December 2024
- lisacH2235TF0 contributionsTake this tour.My friends and I went on the food tour which took us to both Dutch and French sides of St Martin. We got to tour places I just would not have known about or known how to get to. The food was fantastic! From Dutch cheese to local cuisine and local rum and then a French feast. What a treat.Written 14 December 2024
- daniellev1460 contributionsGreat first thing to do on St. MaartenAwesome history of the island, great stops. We all appreciated the tea, yummy banana bread and water. Would definitely recommend this tour for a better appreciation of the island.Written 4 November 2024
- RedJacobin0 contributionsThis tour was my best activity on the Island. Highly recommended if you like natureThe tour was absolutely amazing and my best activity on the Island. The guide, Binkie, really knows all the best (and stunning) places to watch birds and their habitats. We encountered 30 species of birds, the Bronw Pelicans of course (we saw a baby on its nest!), but also amazing pigeons (like the Scaly-naped pigeon and the cute Common ground dove), song birds (like the Banaquit and the Northern Parula) and amazing creatures like the Magnificent Frigatebird, the Brown Booby and the Antillean Crested Hummingbird. This tour shows how beautiful this Islands nature is. The guide explains how the birds and the ecology and the landscape all interact. Binkie was very friendly too and told a lot about the Islands history and landmarks. If you like nature and/or birds and you are on Sint-Maarten: do not miss out on the opportunity to do this tour. Highly recommended for both beginning and seasoned birders.Written 21 October 2024
- Jim T0 contributionsBeautiful day exploring a new part of the island. The hike was of moderate to easy difficulty, a few moderate rises/declines, but nothing steep. The trail was mostly shaded, and shortly after the peak there were a few viewpoints offering spectacular views of the ocean front , which at the time we had entirely to ourselves. After time to explore and a swim we retraced our steps to the start. Werner was ready with Iced tea and water and some banana bread which was delicious. He was very informative about the various plants and sites encountered. He and Nascha were very hospitable and thoughtful. We have toured with Seagrape Tours before ( island history tour) and we will continue to explore wonderful St Martin with them. They provide must do adventures!Written 27 August 2024
- coastiris0 contributionsA wonderful day birding and experiencing the island!I loved taking the birding tour with Binkie, enjoying seeing so many species of birds in the context of beautiful natural places on the island, as well as learning interesting stories about island history, culture and ecology in a relaxed and friendly experience. Thank you!Written 5 May 2024
- 424brendav0 contributionsGreat experience and wonderful foodWe had a wonderful tour with Charles from Seagrape Tours this week. Beginning with a lovely cheese tasting at New Amsterdam Cheese with our host Margarita; then moving on to Johnny cakes, rum tasting and an amazing French lunch, we experienced outstanding hospitality and learned so much about the island along the way! We even got some insider tips on roads to avoid some of the traffic jams. The banana cake and lemongrass tea provided by Seagrape were also excellent. We highly recommend this tour for people who want to get off the beaten path and do something new during their time on the island.Written 4 April 2024
- margarethF5430VT0 contributionsGreat way to see a beautiful island and learn about it at the same time. Our guide Ellie was great! Knowledgeable about many aspects of the area. She actually provided some personalization by visiting a few areas specially because of my interest in birds. The homemade banana bread and lemon grass tea was the icing on the cake!Written 22 March 2024
- Z8626PXsharonh0 contributionsAwesome small group tours! We went on 3 Seagrape Tours during our stay in Saint Martin, the History, Museum beach lunch and Cultural Heritage. We had wonderful tour guides; Jon, Ellie and Nascha. All were knowledgeable of the island and shared a wealth of the history. We saw and experienced more than we imagined on each tour. The lunch at Aloha on Orient Beach was delicious. The small group of 6 or less was also perfect for us. We would recommend any of these tours.Written 9 March 2024
- heathermJ8287PD0 contributionsWonderful! It was a great day! We were lucky to have Gert as our guide, and though we have been coming to the island for many years, we learned a lot from him. He was knowledgable, friendly and engaging. We enjoyed finding new local places to eat and felt thoroughly entertained for the day!Written 5 March 2024
- Virginiafamily2900 contributionsBirding with the PresidentTo celebrate the end of 2023 we took a family birding trip with Mr. Binkie van Es, who is a tremendous guide to not only the birds of Saint Martin but is also the President of the Nature Foundation of Sint Maarten. We could not have asked for a more knowledgeable guide. We also applaud his enthusiasm for protecting the wildlife of the island. He showed us with pride a new bird viewing platform that his group had worked hard to implement. In addition to the bird views, we received a complete tour of the island, complete with historical and cultural information. This is a must do.Written 21 February 2024
- E7623DCelizabetha0 contributionsGreat birding tour!We loved the morning with Binkie Van Es! A great person, deeply knowledgeable about the birds, a passionate activist for birding and the environment on the island. He knows all "the spots"! We identified 44 species of birds in our morning tour with him. Highly recommended.Written 16 February 2024
- 374CHRISG0 contributionsSuperb birding tourThis was an excellent tour, expertly guided by the very knowledgeable Binkie. We covered a range of habitats across the island in both Dutch and French areas. I felt personally privileged that everything possible was done to maximise my enjoyment of the tour including coffee at Binkie's house in front of his bird feeders.Written 12 February 2024

We had a wonderful time with our guide David visiting 4 local artists. We had an opportunity to talk with the artists and enjoyed banana bread and lemon grass tea with Dame Ruby Bute. As we traveled around the island, David shared with us the history of the island and pointed out many points of interest. I would love to return and do his history tour. This tour was the highlight of our vacation.

Our tourguide Nascha took me, my sister and 10 year old daughter on a great trip to visit different gallery's and local artists on the island. She took all the time to let us ask questions and listen to the stories of the artists and let us experience a great variety of work. We went to the Minguet Art Gallery, Ruby Bute's gallery and saw the great aquarelles from Christiane Ladéon. All artists have their own style and quality and each of them were very friendly. Nascha is a very enthousiastic guide and at Ruby Bute's place we sat down for a while to enjoy tea and bananacake and listen to Ruby Bute's great stories. At the Minguet Art gallery the daughter of Alexandre Minguet (passed away in 1996) Catherine showed us his impressionistic work of beautiful islandviews and flowers but also a great variety of other artists which made it very inspiring to look around in the gallery. The final artist Christiane showed us how she works with aquarel in quite a different way than most people work with aquarel. Very bright colours and beautiful blendings. So thank you Nascha for this great tour...we could not leave without purchasing some art to keep the memory of this day even more alive.

This was an amazing day. We toured 4 artists and met them in person. Johnnie, our guide was attentive and answered many questions about the cultures of both sides of the island. He is also involved in the art scene as a professional dancer and dance instructor. We met artist, Christiane Ladeon with her beautiful nature works. Also the daughter of Alexandre Minguet, who keeps her father’s art work alive. We were fortunate to be able to spend time with Ruby Bute, artist, writer, poet and storyteller, who had just been honored by the entire island for her contribution to the arts. She read some of her latest poetry and told us more of her background. It was such a wonderful day and yes, we did make some purchases but there was no pressure. We would recommend this tour to anyone interested in the arts and culture. Johnnie was on time and excellent company.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of walking through Max’s gallery garden, perusing Zdenka’s pearl creations at the Art Box or having Dame Ruby Bute read you her poetry while you savour David’s own banana bread and lemongrass tea...you haven’t truly experienced this island’s gifts.
David is not only your guide to these amazing artists and others but an awesome historian who will tour you around the entire island in 3 hours and provide access to places you would never find on your own.

The tour guide was great and provided a historical perspective of the island and general vicinity. Some of artists were fantastic, giving personal accounts and that made it very special.

We booked tour for our October cruise as we had been to St. Maarten/Martin on several occasions, and had seen much of both sides of island. We were looking for something a bit different an this was. We could not have visited the 4 widely spread out artists studios on our own. We particularly enjoyed Ruby Bute's gallery and bought several prints which now are on our wall. Also gallery and classroom of Tess Verheij. What was different in her studio was the adjacent "Waste Factory" where numerous items are crafted from waste materials. I bought several coin purses made of milk and juice cartons, very inventive. I was particularly interested as I have worked with some of the materials myself and learned some new uses for recyclable items like plastic bags, can rings, newspaper and the already mentioned containers.
We saw 2 other galleries as well. A very enjoyable day and saw much of the countryside as we went from to St Maarten to St Martin.
Right length of tour for us too, with a very friendly guide.

We had a wonderful tour of four artists studios with David. He drove us over both the Dutch and French side of the island to make our visits, and gave us great history along the way. The artists were great, and we did end up buying some art, although there was no pressure to buy anything. We chose the the artists we wanted to see from a list of 8, and ended up with two French ex-pats, one Dutch and the wonderful local Dame Ruby Bute. Ruby has spent her lifetime on Sint Marteen and we sat and had a wonderful talk over iced lemon grass tea and banana bread. She loves people and has wonderful stories of the old days on the island. And her art is full of spirit. We highly recommend a tour with David.

My husband and I had a great tour with David on October 2, 2019. He took the time to show us the island (very informative) and stopped at four local artists. I would never be able to find the artists without this tour. Two of the artists' studios were in their homes, so it have us the opportunity to speak to them while we browsed there gallery. (no pressure selling) Ruby (artist) was my favorite.

Lucinda ("Cindy")was our tour guide. She was very well informed and absolutely delightful. We visited 4 artists' studios/shops. All were excellent and there was no pressure to buy anything. This was a vastly superior tour to any offered by our cruise ship - we had taken a similarly described tour a few years ago from the cruise ship but there were some 25 people on our bus so a lot of time was taken up by getting people on and off the bus.
