      Pedro St. James
We did the self guided tour of the grounds and buildings. Very nice place to spend a couple of hours learning about the history of Cayman. Stacy in the check in office was especially helpful and kind! We highly recommend a visit to Pedro St. James.

      So worth a visit!
Came here from 7mile beach using public bus. We (I’m 56, my 19 year old daughter and her 19 year old boyfriend) walked the half mile from the rotary down to the castle though for a couple dollars more (each) the driver would have taken all the way down. The tour starts with a good movie for the bulk of the history. It was well worth the guided tour as our guide Trish was friendly, fun, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor. I think that she expanded the mind of my teens about antiques which I’m grateful for 👍 The Castle, grounds, views- all amazingly gorgeous. Loved our visit here. Do try the 1780 rum before you leave. It was delicious! The Thatch and Barrel restaurant offered incredible views, delicious food and great service.

      Disappointing
Could have been so much better. Film before tour was dated. House is small and our guide wasn’t good. They also had an event on the grounds at the same time (with LOUD music) which was incredibly distracting and totally unfair to those paying for the tour. Rum tasting was good at least.

      Beautiful piece of history
We paid for a guided tour at the site and Wilson, our tour guide was amazing. You start with a fun multimedia presentation and then you explore the grounds and then the restored great house.

Take the guided tour and hope you lucky enough to have Patricia
We had a fantastic tour with Tricia. We arrived without a reservation and inquired about tour options. We opted for the guided tour and Tricia was immediately available and provided my family of 5 a private tour of the house and grounds. She recounted us with stories relevant to the house and history of the Caymans, plus some extra stories of royals and celebs that had taken her tour in past years. Honestly, without Tricia, it would have been a very so-so attraction that wouldn't interest non-history buffs, but Tricia made it all very special and provided an excellent afternoon.

omg this was the best tour of the trip. we went when no one else was there and our tour guide was just amazing. her name was tricia and she just was a joyful person and made sure to include each family member. she made us feel so welcome and engaged in the tour. if i ever come back to the islands i am running back her and asking for her to tour us again.

I booked this as part of my excursion through Royal Caribbean. Wilson was the tour guide for our group. Wilson was very knowledgeable, and extremely pleasant to listen to, as you can tell he cares about the history of the property and the island. The property itself was beautiful and very well maintained.

      Rum tasting? Hardly!
People were nice and you learn about Caymans founding and history. Which in itself is not much different than all the surrounding islands. The Rum tasting was 3 thimble size tastes and that's it. Maybe 1/3 shot. Really should not be called a tasting. Perhaps they could do Appleton's in Jamaica to understand what they should be arriving for. This was a waste of cruise excursion day when there were lots of options. Again people were super nice. Not their fault. Food was decent. Jamaican Jerk flat bread was the highlight.

      Recommendable
The tour guide was amazing. Do not remember her name, but she used to live in Virginia and her husband is a veteran. She was funny/informative/respectful. The rum itself was DELICIOUS. The only complaint I have, is the dining/rum tasting room’s staff. They were friendly for sure, but they seemed to not be on the same page with what was going on around them. I almost walked out “thinking I paid my bill” and turned out that the currency exchange wasn’t correct on their end. They would have lost about $10 from just me if I left the building. The food itself was very good. I had the lobster with mashed potatoes.

      Interesting if brief history tour
No need to get a guided tour. Great little place to learn some history of the Caymans. Fairly brief. Very pretty site. The intro film is dramatized and pretty cool

      A great rainy day activity!
Lovely grounds and well kept facilities. We did the self guided, which was fine for us. The movie experience was really good... But if someone from there is reading this... Closed captions would be a welcome addition! It was sometimes difficult to decipher through the accents. Also... We were confused by the signage on the front of the gift shop which said "enter here" but also had an arrow pointing left... This led us behind to the restaurant, which wasn't open. A more direct sign would say " enter here through gift shop" or "purchase tickets in gift shop". .. something to that effect. The guide who introduced the movie was very good, very passionate. A nice experience overall!

Nice to learn island history. Does NOT require a guided tour, as there are enough signs and plaques. We also did some challenging walk towards the shoreline for the ocean view.

      Definitely Visit
We visited Pedro St. James on our own, and thoroughly enjoyed our tour, which began with a movie regarding the history of the location and inhabitants. Wonderful setting and might enjoy wine and dinner there next time. Definitely worth a visit!

      Worth the price
Very good. Your guide Stacy Hurlston was a gem and very kind and knowledgeable. And offered to take many photos of us for us. Rum tasting was short but good quality of caymanian produced rums. And the bar staff were very kind and fun to talk to. As a local with a friend visiting, they have definitely improved it since the last time I was there. I was extremely impressed. Definitely worth it people!!

We were staying on the island and the house and grounds are well worth a visit. The restoration detail of this historical building is outstanding and well documented in the museum portion of the park. The guided tour is worth it: the older gentleman who conducted the tour has lived on the island his entire life and remembers the history and has local knowledge of the site during his time. Fans of mahogany will see some very impressive period furniture made from the wood as well as its extensive use in doors and construction. The location suffered severe damage from Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and there is a thoughtful memorial to the storm impact on the grounds. transportation tip: we took the Public bus from 7 Mile Beach to the park and it was quick, clean, and inexpensive. However, at this location, the bus will drop you off at the park entrance, but you will have a 7-10 walk back to the main road to catch the return bus back to George Town. Not a bad walk through the neighborhood by any means, but good to know so you can plan accordingly.

Really enjoyed learning the history of this fabulous island. Trisha is a font of knowledge and her enthusiasm for her country and it’s history is telling in the way she talks about things with such passion. Had the added experience of having Kearney Gomez in our group and between Trisha and him we had the full experience. Amazing location, we also ate there and the food was amazing too.

Horrible excursion. It was to visit the "Pedro St. James Castle" and "Botanical Gardens" on Grand Cayman. First of all, the "Castle" is just a house that someone built and another guy rebuilt to look like a castle to use as a restaurant; it's now been put back. The part of the tour took way too long. The Botanical gardens were also a huge disappointment. Just a nature trail that took about 15 minutes to walk round trip. There were no blue iguanas sited, except for one in the parking lot. The bus driver was supposed to drop us off at the front of the port entrance, but instead dropped us off several blocks away so we had to walk in the blazing sun to get back.

When you decide to book a tour at Pedro St. James Castle, beware of your guide Patricia. As soon as the tour started, she began talking about how amazing Grand Cayman is (good for you girl!) But, she made it very clear how much she hated every other country that wasn’t the Cayman Islands. She called our home city a trash hole and proceeded to talk poorly about our home and everyone elses. After making everyone in the group uncomfortable, she finally started the tour of the house. By this point, everyone had left and nobody really got to experience the beauty of Pedro St. James Castle.

We were on our way back to our resort when I saw a sign for this place and I remembered reading about it so I said, let’s go check it out. Boy, every one of us was super thankful that we did. Patricia Richardson was our tour guide and she was over the top phenomenal. It was my wife and I and my wife’s parents and we had a blast. Patricia was super nice, super knowledgeable and extremely personable. If you ever get to cons here, ask for Patrica to be your tour guide, I promise you, you will not be disappointed. Thank you Patricia for making our day, much appreciated. 😁

We took a cab and when we walked up, the big tour had already started with the video, so we got a private tour of the old rebuilt homestead which was awesome because there were no crowds when looking at things or taking photos and we could ask one o. one questions with our tour guide. They have a little gift shop, small dining area that we did not go into and nice/clean restrooms. After the video, we walked back out to the lawn area, the old outdoor kitchen and through the old house a second time. Very relaxing and enjoyable leisurely taking it all in and thinking about how it was way back then.

It's a memorable and worthwhile trip. Marlena, our tour guide, took us through the history of the place and she is one of the best tour guides at the historic site. The way she narrates the history takes you back to the 18th century. Pedro St. James National Historic Site.is worth a visit, I recommend all.

When you plan for this visit, ask to have Miss Tricia lead the tour. She will make it unforgettable. Her encyclopedic knowledge of the Cayman Islands, especially its history and the history of this house will make the visit all the more an experience.
