We went rock climbing with Daniel in August 2022. The whole family had an awesome morning at Thirl Stane attempting the varying difficulty climbs mapped out by Daniel and also a little rappelling through the middle of the arch. Daniel was great; knowledgable, patient and encouraging with great tips to help those that were struggling. The whole experience left each of us with a great sense of achievement and we would thoroughly recommend booking a session with him. We have tried climbing walls at various activity centres in the area and this beats them all hands down both on the quality of the tutoring and experience, and also price. We will be back.

We had a great day out Rock climbing on Powillimount Beach. The rock formation is interesting and there are great views too.
It was very easy to organise the climbing session with Daniel.
When we got there, he was very safety conscious, had all the equipment we needed and patiently ‘showed us the ropes’, handholds and footholds.
We were a large group with various ages. Some had ‘wobbly’ moments wanting to give up, but Daniel gently coaxed and reassured everyone, and helped us all get to the top of the climbs.
We finished the day by abseiling through a gap in the rocks!
We all thoroughly enjoyed it, it was a highlight of our holiday and we’d heartily recommend the activity and Daniel Johnston’s help and instruction.

Daniel was absolutely fantastic throughout making this such a fun family day for us all. As a group of teenagers and parents, we had a variety of abilities but Daniel managed to provide us all with a challenge enabling us all to push ourselves to succeed with his continual encouragement.
The setting was stunning on a beach made of shells. The perfect family activity made so enjoyable by Daniel.

Rock Climbing at Southernness beach was brilliant, even though i’m a beginner i was able to try some great climbing routes there is also many harder ones for more experienced climbers.
Daniel the instructor was awesome, friendly & very knowledgeable and is capable of teaching you the basics in 10 mins, even offered me a ride home (I walked along the beach from Park-dean resort) I got to try 4 climbing routes and at the end we got to repel down from the top SAS style!! Would highly recommend try it out. Safety gear and all.
TL;DR: Great price, Near Park-dean caravan park, Scenic walk to the climbing area (if walking), Car park if coming by car
Overall pleasure to meet Daniel and be able to learn how to climb
Make sure to give him a call before you book and also check the weather

We had a fabulous family session with Dan to round out our holiday in Scotland. The climbs were challenging for my two boys and my 7-year-old really struggled on the third climb and wanted to come down (there were a few tears). Dan was absolutely brilliant with him, so calm and patient and rather than panicking, he talked my son through the final stages so that he could complete the climb. My little boy was so upbeat afterwards because he'd managed to finish all of the routes and the abseil. I hadn't climbed anything since school and really enjoyed the experience in a beautiful location. I would highly recommend this activity to anyone, it was brilliant.

My daughter and I had a great experience rock climbing with Daniel who was very encouraging, knowledgable and proffessional. We would definitely recommend this experience if in the area and will return again to try some of the harder climbing routes. The abseiling through the roof of the cavern was especially fun and my daughter had a really nice time. i would definitely recommend a level of fitness for some of the harder routes up the rocks but in general I would imagine there is levels for everyone. Thanks Daniel!

Our family (2 adults, 14 yr & 12 yr) had a fantastic time climbing with Daniel. We weren't sure what to expect when booking this activity although the other 5 star reviews gave us the confidence to go ahead with the booking.
Daniel is not only an excellent rock climber, but he's also an excellent instructor. He had a lot of patience, was always encouraging, and made the day a lot of fun. The climbs he's put together become progressively more difficult which allowed us to select which ones we felt most confident to do. We would highly recommend this 5 star activity!

We had great fun from the start. We were on holiday from Ireland and drove down from Kirkcowan.
Daniel fills you with confidence and you feel very safe in his care.
Daniel made the climbing so much fun and yet we were tested and tired after.
The climbing is a gem and should he sought out by anybody staying in or around the area. You won't regret it.
Daniel is one of the earth's finest. An absolute pleasure to be in his company. Thanks for the memories and we shall be back.

Just back from climbing with Daniel, and I have to say that myself and my two adult sons had a fantastic time.
Firstly, very professional and safe! Which is a must (obviously), however that being said, it was an extremely enjoyable experience. Daniel ensured that the climbs got progressively more challenging. Daniel explained everything and was really supportive as we attempted the climbs he made look effortless.
Location was just stunning (the lovely weather helped). Right on the beach with views across the Solway Firth.
What really added to the day was how accommodating Daniel was; start time was agreed to suit us (we had an 80 mile drive) and during the climbing Daniel never seemed rushed.
We will without doubt be going back.

All four of us (2 adults, a 14yo and a 12yo) thoroughly enjoyed this climbing activity. With Daniel's help and guidance we all did three climbs and an abseil. It was great to have the opportunity to challenge ourselves while knowing that help and guidance was at the other end of the rope at all times.
We were very impressed with how well Daniel knew the terrain... He could guide us each time we asked to a suitable hand grip or foothold... And when needed just tighten the rope to give the climber extra confidence. He clearly enjoyed leading the activity which added to our positive experience.
We have no hesitation in recommending this activity 100%.
Just wear sturdy shoes (eg trainers) and comfortable clothes to climb in. Daniel the instructor brings the helmets, ropes, etc. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
