About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- keithpJ2304JN0 contributions10/10 food tourIt was a great tour. Easy to find central meeting place. The tour itself was a short walk to each venue so not a problem for people with long walking issues ( only a few block radius). Most of the food sampled was amazing ( probably all, depending on personal tastes). Of course the samples were small but going to so many stops, by the end I was contently full. (Dinner was not necessary after the tour) Jane was an incredible tour guide! She was very informative of local and global history. There was not a question that she couldn’t answer. Totally worth going on! We also visited Jane’s restaurant, Cafe Juanita in Tangolunda. Amazing food with reasonable prices. We will definitely be returning before leaving!Written 17 February 2025
- Road021233889910 contributionsCooking with classJane is a great teacher, sharing loads of information about the history of the area and its food. Very tasty and enjoyable!Written 12 February 2025
- lesraft0 contributionsFun and a learning experienceJane did a wonderful job of making everyone in the group feel comfortable. Explanations of the ingredients that we were using were in enlightening. We not only learned a little about cooking but about history. The trip out to the cooking school was interesting. It’s always fun to be able to see some of the countryside. We got a good variety of tastes because each team made a different flavor of the same item. The meal that we shared was delicious. And we all helped to make it.Written 10 February 2025
- MarshallMaue0 contributionsHoly Mole’!Once again, my wife & I had the delight of a cooking class with Jane, and this time we brought friends. Jane, with assistance from her “sous chef” Irma, showed the four of us how do make mole (black & yellow), which we had for lunch along with rice and tortillas (also made by us). Delicious! Jane’s humour and insights into food and Mexican history and society alongside the kitchen instruction made for a most entertaining morning. Even though we’ve completed all of Jane’s classes over the years, I suspect we’ll sign up for a refresher when next we visit the Huatulco area. Thank you, Jane!Written 6 February 2025
- BayiteG0neS0uth0 contributionsMORE CHEESE PLEASE!This tour is a relaxed, informative tour of food, drink, local culture and fun stories by the guide. Benjamin was knowledgeable, humorous, helpful and a delight. Bring your appetite - - that taco shop will fill your belly to the max! Many fun treats throughout, with an entertaining mezcal flight tasting as the finale. Our morning flew by! And that Oaxacan cheese - - SO GOOD. A great day to take the morning tour and then hang back to continue to walk around town with confidence and familiarity as long as you wish. Super safe!Written 4 February 2025
- janoQ4237NA0 contributionsTasty and fun experience!!This was a wonderful experience and we're so glad we were part of it! Jane is so talented not only as a chef but as an instructor (very patient!) We were glad she was so informative about the culture, food, and traditions of the people in the area. Will certainly return for another cooking school adventure when we plan our next trip there. Also, be sure to visit her restaurant, Cafe Juanita, in Tongalunda as well!Written 2 February 2025

Fun, educational & deliciousThis was the perfect evening out: a casual affair with lots of Mexican history, trivia, socializing, strolling La Crucecita, meeting local business owners and trying so many delicious & interesting foods. Jane’s passion for Mexican cuisine and her welcoming nature make the experience unforgettable. The hands-on cooking with fresh, local ingredients is so much fun, and the dishes—like mole, tortillas, and salsas—are delicious. Each time we learn something new, Jane’s tips make it easy to recreate the recipes at home. If you’re in Huatulco, don’t miss this incredible culinary adventure. - April_Lamb90 contributionsMUST DO THIS experience!Wow wow wow!!! I am still dreaming about our time with Jane! She is Canadian but has lived full time in Mexico for many many years (maybe 20?). So she is considered a real local to the Hualtuco community. Her background and education in women’s history and Mexican culture shines through in the experience she creates for her guests. Over 8-9 courses we had multiple indigenous foods from the area and specialties we would have never experienced otherwise. Jane is extremely passionate about the earth and how our food is sourced. This is a dining experience like NO other. Jane is the most welcoming, friendly, warm host and she invites you on a journey to connect with her local village and the community through food. DO NOT MISS this opportunity when in Huatulco!Written 15 January 2025
- Tamara K0 contributionsFabulous food and culture!Jane was a wealth of knowledge of the area, food, and the people of Huatulco! What a great experience and the food was absolutely fabulous! - 492jodyr0 contributionsJane isn't just a guide, she's an ambassador for Huatulco! Our food walking tour in Huatulco was exceptional, largely thanks to our guide/owner, Jane. Her passion for the area and its culture was truly evident and infectious. A key highlight was visiting the local markets, which provided invaluable insight into where to purchase fresh, authentic ingredients. We highly recommend taking this tour early in your trip to capitalize on this knowledge. The tour's location around the main square also makes it easily accessible for those with mobility limitations. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and are already planning to return for the morning tour. Thank you, Jane, for sharing your love of Huatulco with us – they are lucky to have you!Written 12 January 2025

Our fluently multi-lingual hostess, Jane, is a dynamo! She immediately set the tone for a day of conversation, food exploration, cooking techniques and cultural awareness. Ceviche; shrimp mousse; baked rosemary shrimp; Baja fish tacos; homemade dipping chips; hibiscus iced tea left us all VERY full with great food and limitless information and resources. Ohhh, the benefit of living oceanside near fresh fish! - yet, the class explained how frozen fish can also be used. DEELISH. The casual, confident creativity really was the show stopper for me - next visit, we will go to Jane's restaurant, "Cafe Juanita".

The cooking class went beyond my expectations. Jane was prepared for the classes- had all ingredients prepared and demonstrated techniques required for each dish. I learned a lot about the peppers and chili's, so now I can adjust it to my liking. I really liked the 2 different kinds of ceviche- it was great to taste how they were similar but different. I also liked the shrimp 🍤 dish, it was easy to prepare. The fish Tacos were great. The shrimp mousse was great but I would not prepare it at home- I hate using my blender(do not have a food processor) it's too much work to clean it afterwards.
I really appreciated the small class size- everyone got a chance to ask questions and get answers.
Well done Jane!!

This was an absolutely amazing experience. We loved both the location and the atmosphere. Jane is more than a chef, she’s an educator, a food enthusiast and a culture lover. You can tell how passion she is about what she does and as a result it made the experience even more enjoyable. Getting to know a bit about her, her lifestyle and her take on the culture there was an absolute blast. We will without a doubt be coming back.
Thank you Jane, for sharing a piece of your paradise with us!
Oh, and if you don’t know- Jane has the cutest restaurant in town and the food is amazing! Highly recommend 🤍

So fun! Me and two good friends from Oregon took Jane’s class together. We were happily picked up and driven out to Zimatan. She has a little piece of heaven there and on our arrival, we were greeted by Jane and her 3 sweet pooches.
The cooking school there is well set up for large groups, gracious and open for good air circulation even for those really hot days. And it was a hot day for us!
We had great fun cooking with Jane and Shona (I hope I have that right) as she showed us the way - thankfully the recipes were uncomplicated and easy to follow. But they all tasted so so good.
The seafood menu was something we were all looking forward to but being a huge fish taco fan I was sure it would be my favorite however, I would have to say that most strange sounding one is my favorite: shrimp mousse! Who knew? But, truly, we loved EVERYTHING she had on the menu.
I give the experience a double thumbs up. 👍 👍 Also the location was amazing and beautiful and we enjoyed the food and drink we made out on the patio overlooking the river. Absolutely lovely.
We will definitely do this again with another menu offered… and that Farm to Table evening sounds really special too.
And a little note to Juanita… I have just finished my own batch of shrimp mousse and garlic/rosemary shrimp. It is a fantastic recipe - super simple. Thanks so much for the great experience.

The cooking school, location and of course the chef were phenomenal! We would highly recommend this to anyone interested in both the culinary and history of the area. The ingredients were incredibly fresh and participation was encouraged by all (even the non-cooks) in the group. The food was absolutely amazing and it was especially amazing to enjoy it in a beautiful location with outstanding friends.

I really loved the Oaxacan cooking "experience". The recips were relatable and duplicatable. Jane effortlessly moves from one food intolerance or eating preference with eas; accommodating vegetarian, vegan, and beyond...even in a Seafood cooking class!
Interesting history and great trivia made the time together so much more valuable.
The door to door taxi service was a plus.
Jane's restaurant Cafe Juanita is one of the BEST in the entire area, and she is there most nights.
Loved it!

Practical, informative, and fun approach to learning how to make fabulous seafood dishes without having to be a Michelin star chef. Will make these dishes back home and am happy to report no longer being afraid to use different Chile peppers. Highly recommend! Cathy

Jane was awesome. She explained how to make delicious seafood dishes and we were hands on with the preparation. Jane also told us about the local food grown in the area and history of the community. We were a little out of our comfort zone but she made it easy to do.
