      Barrios Bites Mazatlan food tour
My friend and I enjoyed the Barrios Bites food tour with Eduardo. He accommodated our unique food requests and answered all our questions during the tour. We enjoyed meeting the local Mazatlan people and eating food from the local mom and pop food vendors. We had fried tacos (tuna or beef), manta ray soup, smoked Marlin fish, fresh ground corn tortillas, sun-dried shrimp, and a ripe coconut slushy. It was a fun way to enjoy a beautiful day in Mazatlan. We would definitely do this tour again, as well as try the other food tour options that Flavor Teller offers.

      Amazing cooking experience!
We did the kitchen cooking experience with Yolanda. The owner and tour guide Mika was awesome. We had a little history of Mazatlan, a great tour of the Mexican market where we bought the ingredients for cooking and then made our way to Yolanda’s personal residence. We assisted in making some fantastic ceviche, all of which was amazing and even took so much back to the hotel. Yolanda made us feel at home in her kitchen and Mika even took us to a coffee roaster afterwards as we mentioned we wanted to buy some coffee. Overall a fantastic experience and we would definitely do more tours with this company. The small sized yours were also fantastic.

      Fantastic Food Tour
My family and I really enjoyed the Barrio Bites food tour. We visited some amazing places, and each provided wonderful street food. We enjoyed eating with the locals and having conversations with the owners. We also visited a local tortilla factory and tasted a freshly made corn tortilla. We visited a wonderful restaurant that provided a large plate of food for us all to share. Included was a visit to a fish monger. We were able to taste smoked tuna! In total we visited 6 or 7 local food stops. This tour lasts about 3 hours and it is ended with a trip to a local brewery. Eduardo is an excellent tour guide and I would recommend this food tour to anyone that is interested.

      Fabulous food tour!
What a great day with Eduardo! It was easy to find the meeting place (15 min walk from the cruise terminal). We started with a yummy taco and then headed to the harbor where Eduardo (in excellent English) explained the process of the shrimpers and processors. At each food stop, he told us about the people who owned the restaurant and everything was so delicious! Highly recommend!

Don’t walk but RUN to book this tour
If you’re considering a food tour in Mazatlan, look no further! We had the pleasure of joining a tour led by Eduardo, who was a standout guide- kind, gracious and impressively knowledgeable about the city, its rich history, and the people who make it vibrant. Eduardo’s passion for Mazatlan shone through as he shared fascinating stories and insight about the area, which really added depth to each stop. Every stop on our tour was unique, offering an incredible variety of food and drink that highlighted the diversity of Mazatlan’s culinary scene. We sampled traditional street foods with each bite telling its own story. Meeting the local merchants was not her highlight; they welcomed us warmly and shared their own experiences, making the tour feel incredibly personal and authentic. I can not recommend this tour- and Eduardo enough. It was an unforgettable way to experience Mazatlan’s flavors and meet the wonderful people who bring the city to life! If you want a memorable, mouthwatering journey with an outstanding guide, BOOK this tour!!

      Amazing experience
An amazing experience with delicious food and an informative and fun guide. We went to areas of mazatlan and to food stalls we would not have gone to on our own!

      Great food tour!
Don’t eat one thing before taking this tour because there is plenty of food to taste. There were only 4 of us to include our guide El Gordo very personable & knowledgeable of Mazatlan and its rich history. The weather started off hot but we were grateful for the partly cloudy afternoon. Glad it wasn’t a lot of walking because of the heat. The truck that provided transportation was open so we got a lot of cool air as the driver transported to each destination. Be careful of the 1st food stop (Tacos El Veneno) the food is so delicious, but there’s macaroni salad that will put your mouth on fire lol. The owner is very friendly, he plans on having his own restaurant in the future. Next stop we had turtle soup, excellent! Next stop Chayito Cenaduia excellent service & amazing food. Next stop shrimp market we tasted freeze dried shrimp at Camarón Seco, I passed on that. Next stop small business that made fresh tortillas. You gotta buy some to take with you, they were delicious with a little salt. Next stop fish market, we had smoked Marlin and blended down Marlin kinda of paste like dip all so delicious. Final stop Cerveceria Tres Islas where we tasted a variety of beers. Very friendly and personable staff made us feel very welcomed. Great tour hands down!!

It's a lot of food, so come HUNGRY!
We were in Mazatlán for 2 weeks, and in that time we did many tours and activities. Some were great, some were only okay. This one was absolutely the best. We did the "Night Eats" tour, during which we were transported to six different locations to try food that's only available after dark. Everything we tried, from the super popular taqueria to the corner stall making fresh churros, was insanely delicious. Our tour guide, Maaike, was very knowledgeable and friendly. I was a bit apprehensive about the price while booking, but now that we've done it, I actually think it's fantastic value. We got a great meal, and learned so much about the local food culture, but the real value is after the tour, we felt far more confident about going into the local shops and knowing what to order! Our only regret is that we wish we had done it earlier in our trip. Cannot recommend enough!

Come with an appetite! Tasty food and drinks await!
Maaike’s tour started with a delicious shrimp starter close to the docks, initiating our group of 5 to a street restaurant preparing our meal on site. She explained why seafood is best in the early hours, gave historical backgrounds to what we were experiencing, and provided so much local information! Living here, being willing to share, and providing diverse menu options, Flavour Teller has allowed us the opportunity to explore food in front of us that we would likely not have tried. Most tourists would walk into more conventional restaurants; instead we were eating like locals, having awesome food at every stop, while opening our eyes to venturing into new venues. Highly recommend!

Flavor Teller Food Tours are a must if you are visiting Mazatlan!
We had wonderful time with Flavor Teller food tours! We did the Flavors of Mexico tour with Maaike and it was such an incredible experience. This tour took us off the between path, away from the tourist areas and gave us the opportunity to try cuisine from all over Mexico. It was lovely chatting with the owners of these family owned restaurants and trying their incredible food. Maaike was a fantastic tour guide and told us about the history of Mazatlan in addition to information about the food we were eating. A food tour with Flavor Teller is an absolutely must do if you are visiting Mazatlan!

      Awesome Mazatlan food adventure!
Had an absolutely amazing time! It was the first time I’ve ever done a food tour and it was great. I learnt so much more about local food then I would have on my own, plus Eduardo also gave us some great insight in to Mazatlan’s rich culture and history. Totally recommend taking this tour if you can and we will definitely take another when we come back.

      Fabulous Food Tour Through Mazatlan
I cannot say enough good things about this tour. It takes you to food trucks and other spots that a tourist would have a really hard time coming across on their own. Our guide, Maaike, was very knowledgeable giving us the history of these establishments, some of which are family owned spanning generations. Everywhere we went, the food was delicious and unique. Just a really great several hours spent learning about Mazatlan while enjoying great food.

Excellent food tour. I appreciate that Maaike knows the story of each street food vendor and restaurant/brewery we visited. I appreciate that she shared both their history and their personalities. She was also open to chatting about other subject that the group asked about.

My husband and I really enjoyed the Mercado Walking Food Tour in Mazatlan. Maaike did an excellent job of merging the history of the city and telling the story with food. The stops she has selected for the tour had fantastic food and gracious owners. It's obvious she had a great relationship with them, and is able to weave together a tour that represents Mazatlan at its best.

My boyfriend and I loved our tour! We are bigtime foodies and our favorite thing to do when traveling is enjoying the authentic local cuisine. I was not expecting the history, architecture, and lovely conversation on the quick walk to the market. Good photo ops! Maaike is an amazing host and we enjoyed her knowledge of the city and the close relationships she has cultivated with the food vendors at the market. I was excited with everything we tried and we even brought back several things we purchased from the vendors besides what came with our tour. We were stuffed by the end of the tour and then spent some time walking off our bellies by circling the market again and shopping the non food items for souvenirs. The tour was beyond affordable and I was shocked at how much food we got to try! I loved our experience!

Hi KristiAnna! It was so much fun to show you the ins and outs of Mazatlan's Pinos Suarez market I knew you were real foodies from the moment we met, because you carried a big backpack. Wasn't it wonderful to connect to the vendors who have been selling amazing traditional food for decades. I'm happy that you enjoyed every bite and I look forward to welcoming you in the future!

Hi Wendy! Thank you for your review and suggestion. Many travelers who visit Mazatlan don't get to see the real Mazatlan with local everyday life. The downtown market is a gateway to these hidden stories and locals flavors and I'm happy that you enjoyed every bite along the way. Keep up your wonderful enthusiasm! Maaike

The best part of our food tour experience was discovering the Mexican culture through an authentic food and history stories. Maaike, the tour creator, took us through downtown of Mazatlan pinpointing the landmarks and historical events of the city which helped us learn a lot about the development of the city. Then she walked us through the oldest market in town treating us to the tastes and flavors of Mazatlan cuisine. We were amazed at how rich and varied the Mexican cuisine and culture was. Maaike was not just a food guide but a wonderful story teller who introduced us to Mexico. If you are really interested in getting to know Mexico and Mazatlan, in particular, Maaike is the person to contact. We are already planning to book her other tours.

One of the best local tours I’ve experienced. Maiike is a local resident who is able to see through the lens of an outsider, thus providing a most informative, relevant tour that covered not only food, but also history and culture in Mazatlán. Taking the tour on the first day of my vacation gave me the confidence to experiment on my own later in the week. My only regret is I wasn’t able to join a second tour before I left. It was sold out! I also bought a travel guide... a nice memento! Thank you very much. :) Helen Earley, Food and travel writer, Halifax NS Canada

Hopefully you'll come back to Mazatlan with your family next time!

Hi hungry foodie adventurer! Thank you for sharing your experience of the Mercado food tour. The local market is full of history and wonderful local flavors, but it can be a bit intimidating at first. Wasn't it great to sample all the tasty bites of Mazatlan's Pino Suarez market? Once you get your bearings, it's easy to go back ana shop like a local. Keep up your great smiles and see you next year!

Maaike was amazing! Right from the start we knew we were going to have an amazing experience! She is very personable and welcoming! We were able to witness some history in the city that impacted the food culture of Mazatlan. Maaike led us through the market to experience shopping the way locals do! Not only did we learn about food, we visited shops that catered to the native beliefs and practices. Everything we sampled was absolutely amazing. The hardest part of the excursion is picking your favorite

Just 3 of us on this tour yesterday which made for an intimate tour of the market and some great food. Maaike has been living in Mazatlán for 16 years and has learned what’s worthy of our 3+ hours and did not disappoint regarding what to share and what to skip.
If you’re considering booking a tour with her, book it!
Hope to return and take another tour with her next year.
    Gracias, Maaike!

We did the Mercado Walking Food Tour on 9/13/23. After booking, we received an email confirmation with the company email and phone number included - in case we had questions! The starting point was easy to locate and easy to get to. Our guide, Eduardo, who grew up in Mazatlan, was very friendly and gave us a ton of interesting information and history about the area we walked through. At the Mercado market, in between all of our tastings, we learned about everything it has to offer - for both the locals and the tourists! We were surprised that we got to make a food choice at several of our stops! The portions were BIG and the food was awesome, so don’t eat breakfast before you go! We’re so glad we booked this “experience” with Flavor Teller Food Tours and highly recommend it to everyone!
