- thomasbpeterson0 contributionsDrunk Tour Guide Hurts RatingThis is a great way to see a lot of Puerto Vallarta in a day. I loved walking along the Malacon Beach Boardwalk and seeing the Cathedral. The tour took us up into the mountains for a coffee tasting at a local coffee roaster, as well as a great tequila tasting at a local distillery. Great tequila by the way, and lots of shots!! This was followed by a great lunch. I would have given this tour 5 stars if it were not for the fact that our tour guide got so drunk on the tour that he couldn't perform his duties. He had to have one of the photographers take down everyone's hotel for drop off. Something was lost in translation and they drove right by our hotel. Pretty soon, everyone but us had been dropped off. When the tour guide stumbled back to where we are sitting, we told him where we were staying. He slapped his head and said, "S@#t!" To their credit, another van soon showed up and we were transferred into that. They then dropped us off at our hotel. A five hour tour turned into a 7 and a half hour tour because the tour guide drank too much tequila.Written 30 January 2025
- Compass578400234300 contributionsGreat overview of PVR and outskirtsGreat experience. Provided a whole spectrum tour. Got picked up at the hotel. First stop was the chocolate factory downtown and the visit to the church was quite moving. Experienced both the upscale route and also the local traditional and lower income areas. Great caring tour guide. Nice stop on top of the mountain at a restaurant in the mountain.Written 18 January 2025
- V6443OLkristim0 contributionsDon't do this!!!We were told this was 5-6 hours long, and it was a tour of the city. It was 9 hours long, 3-4 hours longer than scheduled! We quickly realized this wasn't a city tour. We were taken to specific places to purchase leather, candy, tequila, and jewelry, and to eat at a restaurant. We were given one 30-minute "walk around" time and one "you have 15 minutes to walk the boardwalk to get on the bus." Other than that our time was controlled by the above shopping/restaurant. The restaurant we were taken to had a very narrow selection of 5-6 items and I don't see BBQ chicken, baked potato, and steamed cauliflower/broccoli as "authentic." We should have had a choice of restaurants or the meal should have been included in the price of the tour. When visitors to your city leave and this is the impression that you give, that your commission from these specific places is more important than showing off your city, your visitors feel scammed out of their vacation day, and thats the story they go home and tell others about.Written 15 January 2025

- oliviamK9329BK0 contributionsBetter ways to spend vacationOur tour guide Juan had big opinions on capitalism and city developments that he could not let go of during the tour. We spent 9 hours (was supposed to be 6) "seeing the city" from our bus seat. We got a total of 35 minutes to walk around freely between 2 locations; the rest was time spent at shops where I am sure they earn a commission. What was supposed to be a downtown tour, ended about an hour and thirty minutes away on the side of a mountain with no service and crappy food that we felt we had to eat because we were starved for 7.5 hours with no other options. HIGHLY DON'T RECOMMEND, COMPLETE WASTE OF A DAY OF VACATION!!!! If you want to see downtown Puerto Vallarta, grab a taxi, go to the boardwalk, and walk around yourself.Written 13 January 2025
- S5534IQtamib0 contributionsTransportation switchThis tour was not as promoted. We were told transport would be a comfortable van and the hotel pick up was in a nice van but we were switched at the port into an uncomfortable large bus with dirty windows that rattled so much we thought they would fly out any minute. The driver had trouble with the gears and shifting giving us a lurching ride, which was very far out of PV, onto a dusty single track road. While the tequila was good, we didn’t see any type of production or agave farm, just went right to the tasting. IMO, it was just a way to get us to a location with only one food option which was overpriced, not hot when served and not well prepared. The coffee factory was a collection of small shops, one selling coffee. It was a long, uncomfortable day that would have been better spent at the resort. Better to skip it.Written 11 January 2025
- garymF9745MC0 contributionsWaste of a dayThis felt like a hostage situation. We were captive for 8 of the nine hours in the bus and had a total of 45 minutes to choose what we would like to do in town. To cap it off at the 6 hour mark it’s time for lunch where we had one place to choose from with a limited menu the for our group consisted mostly of Costco chicken. I would not recommend this to anyone. We toured a leather shop, silver store a candy store and a tequila distillery that the tour company made arrangements with and they very likely get kickbacks from.Written 10 January 2025
- NellieBess0 contributionsTotal wasteThis ended up being a 9 hour tour! It wasted an entire day! We were a captive audience for the stores they took us to. We only got a total of 45 minutes of the 9 hours to explore on our own. The icing on the cake was not getting lunch until 3pm and being forced to eat at the only restaurant in the mountain town. And after that having to drive an hour and a half to get back to our hotel. We wished we had taken a taxi back from the boardwalk, because there was no escape once we headed up into the hills. It was another 4 hours. The tequila tasting I did on the boardwalk was better than the one in the mountain village. Don’t waste your time or money!Written 10 January 2025
- Frodo20220 contributionsFabulousWonderful place, amazing gardens & trails, delightful restaurant & a gift shop selling better than average tableware & other goods. Find a good local driver, hire them for the day & include this place in a tour of the South side of the bay .Written 3 January 2025
- IL_Adventurer0 contributionsEnjoyed the day. Not awesome but was good day.Was an enjoyable way to see some things around the city. The Malecon (boardwalk), church, and coffee stops were our favorites. The coffee was so good we bought some. The leather shop was kind of fun to see different hides. The jewelry place was too high end and not for us. The tequila tasting was fun. The first tastes are pretty harsh but get better as they go. The lunch at the end is very good but very pricey for Puerto Vallarta.Written 26 December 2024
- gatwol0 contributionsyou basically are paying to go to the stores...fake fraud tour... avoidif I could get a refund on this I would as we basically were the second couple on this tour who left before the tour was even completed. Avoid at all costs as this is not a tour but basically you pay to have them transport you to stores where they get kick backs on like a jewellery store, a leather store, a coffee store and a tequila store. they say they take you to the listed places but they have conveniently chosen stores at these places. there is no tour, guide barely speaks english, no organisation and a complete and utter rip off. save your money and book a real tour.Written 18 December 2024

- amandacO5831ZL0 contributionsIt's okI thought there would be more walking. Spent most of the tour in the van. Was supposed to be picked up at my hotel..I was not and I was ready and waiting at 0900 for a 0920 pick up so had to spend money on a taxi to meet them. That being said...you do see a few things. I enjoyed the coffee and tequila tasting and lunch the most. I appreciated the leather shop but would've rather explored the boardwalk more. My guide Eric was amazing as was the photographer Jesus.Written 9 December 2024
- Daralyn G0 contributionsScam! rude servicethis company is a scam. I booked for a 10 AM botanical garden trip and was waiting at the pick up location at 10 AM and by 10:15, No one came so I called the company and they said I was a no-show and they were not gonna refund me for the excursion. They offered to rebook me another day, but I’m leaving the following day and explained that to the receptionist who was extremely rude, Her name was Daniella. I would never book with this company again, so unprofessional. They never called me. Never tried to WhatsApp me.Written 3 December 2024

I had a great trip through the Sierra Madre mountains to San Sebastian! I chose this tour company because they depart at 10am and pick us up directly at our resort hotel at 9am, which was way more convenient for us. Other companies require a 7am arrival, are also a bit more expensive, and do not pick you up at your resort/ hotel. Our tour guide, George, was very knowledgeable about the history, politics, trees, plants, and animals in the area. The drive, which lasted a little over an hour, passed quickly as he shared his expertise. The van had a speaker and microphone making it easy to hear him, and our driver, Frederico, made sure we had a safe and comfortable journey. Our first stop was at the San Sebastian Tequila distillery, where we sampled about 7 different organic tequilas and learned about the tequila-making process, make sure you buy Tequilia there, it's cheaper and hard to find elsewhere. We then visited a silver shop, where we saw beautiful silver jewelry and learned about the local high-quality opal mined in the area. Our next stop was the historical coffee farm, Cafe de Altura, where we saw parrots and other animals and enjoyed fresh coffee and homemade breads and treats. Finally, we arrived in San Sebastien and had a delicious lunch buffet with authentic homemade Mexican food, a welcome change from the Americanized cuisine at the resort. We then had about an hour to venture on our own and noticed a very calming energy there. I've been to Puerto and Nueva Vallarta about 6 times now.....this is one of the most interesting and authentic tours I have experienced there.

We booked this with Riviera Tours & transfers, and our transport was an air-conditioned mini bus that took 12 of us comfortably. We were given bottles of water for the journey, too. A wonderful tour guide called Adam, friendly, easy-going, explained the itinerary to us. Then, on the way, he provided a colourful history of the town as we made our way to San Sebastian in the Sierra Madre Mountains, over 1000 feet up. On the way, we were to stop at a Tequila distillery, but it was too busy, so Adam arranged for us to go on our return journey.
On the way, we stopped at a coffee plantation. Adam again gave a marvellous presentation, we saw how it was made and tasted some beautiful coffee and given the chance to buy some.
On arrival at San Sebastian, we visited a Silver shop, which suprisingly accepted credit cards. High up in the Sierra Madre, there is not much of a signal!! Lol.
We were then taken for lunch and served a traditional Mexican meal, which included Pollo Mole(chicken in a wonderful sauce with chocolate in it) Quesedillas, etc. The rest of the tour after lunch was on foot along and up very steep cobbled streets. So, not for those with mobility issues. We saw beautiful buildings and visited a local art shop and tasted local peanut brittle, so good we went back for more. On the walking tour, Adam shared more history and showed us buildings that had been there since the 1600s. We then went to the church of San Sebastian which was built in late 1600s. Afterwards, we were given time to wander round and take photos. We met back at the square and left San Sebastien for the tequila distillery.
At the distillery were shown how Tequila was made and then taken to taste some. We were given Blanco ( fresh and strong and used in cocktails), then a 6 month old Tequila, which was light gold in colour and smoother, then a 2 year old Tequila which was smoother and slightly sweeter. These were followed by flavoured tequilas, coffee/choc, walnut, citrus, almond and they were delicious. We were also given time to purchase any tequila and souvenirs. We then returned back to Puerta Vallarta, driven by Jorge, who did amazingly well on the mountain roads and dodging the Coati Mundi family crossing the road and a few herds of cows blocking the road.
If you get the chance to go....go. Hopefully you will get an amazing team like Adam and Jorge. Wonderful day and worthwhile, learning about the Mexican history and Silver mining, the food, Coffee and of course Tequila.
Thank you to the people of San Sebastian who welcomed us and looked after us.
Thank you, Adam and Jorge

Jorge and Carlos were wonderful! Everything was orderly, professional and on time. Jorge was a very knowledgeable, friendly guide who knew all of the local flora, fauna, and history. When some of the kiddos in our group admired the delicious fruit at the stands we passed, he stopped to buy some so we could all try it. Carlos went above and beyond driving us comfortably on twisty, cobblestone roads and even recovering one group member's phone left at a previous stop. The tour was a perfect length; we saw a lot without ever feeling rushed. If you are okay with moderate altitude, have good walking shoes, and no mobility issues, this is a great tour for all ages and group types.

Omar is an excellent and very knowledgeable tour guide. Even before the tour started, he called to ensure we were at the correct pickup location. He shared his great knowledge of Mexico and the places we visited with such ease in both Spanish and English, that the entire group was completely entertained and enjoyed every moment. Fredrico was a fantastic addition to Omar and made our trip safe and wonderful. The meal was good and the entire trip was well worth it.

This tour was excellent. I would recommend not eating or drinking coffee before you leave because they stop at this beautiful little bakery on the way up (about an hour in) and the coffee is delicious. We had 3 different savory pastries and they were all great... Also inexpensive. I loved looking out the window and our tour guide Gustavo was filled with knowledge about the history of Puerto Vallarta and all the areas you pass through. San Sebastian de Oeste was really special...next time we are in PV I think we will stay there for a few nights because there are old hotels there and many of the souvenirs you buy there are cheap and high quality.
All in all it was lovely and definitely a must see. Thanks again to Gustavo for being an awesome guide!

Our guide Omar kept everyone fully engaged throughout the day as we took a welcome break from the beach culture of Puerto Valletta for one day for a trip into the mountains.
The visits to the tequila shop, coffee producer and opal jeweller were worth the stops even if the balance between informative visits and delivering them with potential customers was fine. Stopping at the bridge on the way back at the request of the group was appreciated- even if there was no opportunities to sell anything to us.
Recommended.

My two friends and I really enjoyed this tour. We absolutely loved the lunch which was included in the tour. The traditional Mexican food was delicious. It was nice to see a more colonial, less touristy side of Mexico. This is an excellent day trip from Puerto Vallarta and allows you to see the countryside away from the modern beach city. Jorge was a very knowledgeable guide and he can also make suggestions about other small towns to visit.

It’s more like a driving tour?
San Sebastián was cute to visit, and so were the stops at the little bakery, the tequila, and coffee shops, but- the drive is loooooong for the amount of time you actually get to spend in San Sebastián (1.5 hours total, which includes a group lunch). Not much time to explore SS on our own (30 min).
We have a 2 year old and were picked up first, and spent an hour picking up the rest of the guests from their hotels. 2 more hours driving to SS, plus the 2+ hours drive back. That’s a lot of time in a small van.
Our tour guide and driver were GREAT but the “purchase photos” at the end was $30 for just so-so photos.
Not sure the drive is worth the short time in the SS city though.
Recommendations: extend the day to allow more time in SS and have one morning pickup point so guests don’t have to be in the van for longer than necessary.

We took the San Sabastian tour. It was a highlight of our visit. Our guide Jorge Heriberto was very knowledgeable and really made the tour special because of his enthusiasm and familiarity with the area. It is a beautiful city that has maintained the charm and ways of old Mexico. I highly recommend this tour to anybody interested in spending a both a relaxing day and seeing charming city. I wish the authors of the negative reviews for this experience would reevaluate their expectations for an all day tour involving a two hour bus trip each way and a free lunch for $85.

This tour was misrepresented and I would like a refund. We did not take the tour. The tour was supposed to be a small group transported by a private vehicle to the tour destination, San Sebastian del Oeste. Instead we were asked to board a large bus with 30+ passengers. In addition, the bus seats were extremely uncomfortable. They were contoured at shoulder height and any normal size person would be forced to hunch their shoulders the entire whole day trip.

Is that just northeast of Neuvo Vallarta? If so, I can’t see why not. Our bus started out picking up in the south end (Zona Romantica) and made 6 pickup stops along the way. Call the company - they’re very accommodating!

You would need to do it through the cruise line or contact the tour line. It is a relatively long tour so you need to be careful about the hours your ship is in port. We were at a resort and they picked us up at our resort
