Super Ride with Carmen
Jan 2020
The bike tour of wall art was a highlight of our stay in PV. Carmen was an excellent guide - informative and interesting as well as keeping our comfort and safety in mind. The fat tire bikes are tons of fun and easy to handle on cobblestone streets. We loved riding through neighbourhoods outside the usual tourist areas. We hope to return in 2021 and ride again with the Poons.

Excellent Tour w Carmen!
Feb 2020
We had a great back country roads ride followed by the graffiti tour. The ride was a good balance of challenge and chill for our group with varied skill levels. A perfect outing! Carmen was a fun and knowledgeable guide! Thanks for being so accommodating!

Great way to explore and see cool urban art
Feb 2020
Our group of three did the fat bike tour with Carmen and had a great time. The ride goes at a relaxed pace and stays mostly on low traffic neighborhood streets. Carmen spent time making sure that our bikes fit properly and explained the signals that she would be using. I still say “Tope!” (speed bump) just for fun at home. The murals were amazing and made for a great morning trip. You’ll be done by lunch and your tour includes stopping for tacos or something else to eat at the end (she will give you a few options). I would say that this ride is good for just about all fitness levels. It’s mostly flat with a couple small hills. The bikes have super low gearing, so you can climb a wall if you need too (but don’t). Two of us were experienced cyclists and the third had not cycled in years and has a bad knee. We all had a wonderful ride. You’ll learn a bit about the artists who created the murals and there are several that will challenge your brain a bit to see the way they change depending on how you look at them.

Terrific look of vibrant neighborhoods and art
Mar 2020
We had great slightly hazy morning for our tour and were luck to have Carmen all to ourselves. She was very accommodating to our needs which we really appreciated. It was such fun to tour neighborhoods and see art that most tourists never get to see. The cobblestones were challenging but the fat tires really helped. Unique tour, highly recommend!

Not so informed
Jan 2020
My friend and I were pumped to do this tour. It was pricy via Trip Advisor (over $100 Canadian each). We ended up meeting at their "home office" which was their house. We signed waivers, which is understandable. We were given water bottles which were previously used by others. Whether clean or not I was not going to use that and thought it was gross. New unopened bottled water should have been given.

pros: bikes were in very good shape
nice biking neighbourhoods you would never possibly visit
some of the art
a graveyard we stopped at for a few minutes

cons: Carmen didn't really know anything about the street art. I finally gave up riding right behind her as I can't even count the number of times she said she didn't know who the artist was and didn't know the meaning behind the art. I ended up going to the back of the line just to take pictures of what I wanted to take pictures of out of frustration.
the other family that took the tour with us didn't seem too impressed either and wanted to end the tour a bit early and go back. At one point Carmen pointed out a small dog that would come running out after us as we passed. The dog ended up biting one of the participants feet. (if you know there is an aggressive dog on the tour, why go that way?)

In reading other reviews it looks like someone named Clarence went on the tour, which we did not have. Maybe they know more about the art. It also would have been helpful to have a guide at the front and back so the people at the back didn't get left behind which happened a couple of times.

There are other tours in PV that are better. We did a Vallarta Eats tour that was in the same neighbourhood and was half the price and lots of very good food and a ton of information about the neighbourhoods. We also saw some street art on that tour as there is street art everywhere in PV. We also did a cooking class with Gaby's Restaurant which was awesome.

All in all I wish there was more information regarding the street art and also stopping to take pictures of things that we don't normally find at home like dogs on a roof.

I am sorry that you were disappointed by the tour. It appears that we “started off on the wrong foot” and that we had poor communication. You are correct we are a small business that is run out of our house. I did not think that my using the term “home office” misrepresented us as something we are not, however, you clearly felt otherwise. I wish that you had told me about your misgivings regarding our use of reusable water bottles. We use these for two reasons. Firstly, we wanted to reduce our plastic waste and felt that reusable bottles, although they are plastic, would be more ecologically friendly as they can be used many times instead of the single use bottles which many people are trying avoid. Secondly, standard single use individual water bottles do not fit into standard bicycle water bottle cages. With the cobble and dirt streets there is constant vibration of the bike and we discovered that within a very short distance the bottles always fall out of the bottle cage. It is true that the outside of the reusable bottles do get scuffed and scratched up. This is because they must fit snuggly into the bottle cage so they do not fall out with the motion of the bike. This happens after just a few uses, but in no way affects the quality of the water inside the container. We thoroughly wash them after each use. If you recall from our short safety orientation before the tour, I informed the group that the water was purified and let everyone know that we could easily buy more if needed. I would have gladly carried a newly purchased bottle of water for you in my backpack. You said that you felt that the tour was not a good value and noted that a Vallarta Eats Food tour that you took was half the price. I agree that our friends at Vallarta Eats have wonderful tours, but they are not half the price of ours. I looked at Viator’s listings today and our tour was listed at $1,744.82 pesos and Vallarta Eats tours ranged from $1,036.50 to $1,658.41 pesos. These are walking tours that focus on food and do not have specialized equipment. You complimented us on our bikes. Thank you! Our bikes are name brand bikes that cost $30,000 pesos each (approximately $2,119 CDN). They also require consistent maintenance to keep them in good working order because they are exposed to dirt, sand, water, and even sometimes salt with every use. Maintaining and storing this specialized equipment is costly and is reflected in our price, which although is higher, is not 50% higher than Vallarta Eats. Moreover, our cycling tour covered a distance of about 14 kilometres. Riding a bicycle allowed you to see more of the city and visit neighbourhoods that you would not visit on a shorter walking tour. You mentioned that you felt that the people at the back got “left behind”. As I mentioned in the orientation, we travel on public streets and as such I cannot control the flow of traffic. There were times that the first part of the group crossed through an intersection and had to wait for the others, because at that moment a vehicle approached the intersection, but at no point did I take off and leave the people at the back on their own. We travelled as a group. I do regret that one of the participants had her shoe bitten by the dog. I was very relieved that she was not harmed and if you recall, I indicated that I would be changing the route of the tour as a result. I have ridden down that road countless times and all the little dog ever did was bark. I enjoyed the murals on that side of the cemetery and I wanted to share them with my customers. You also said that the “other family that took the tour with us didn’t seem too impressed either and wanted to end the tour a bit early and go back”. It is true that one member of the other group expressed a desire to go back earlier; however, whether the other members wanted to return early is uncertain. Moreover, you and the other person in your group said you wanted to see more art so we went to the skate park art to accommodate you. If you had truly wanted to return sooner, I again, wish you would have said something. Your biggest complaint seemed to be my apparent lack of knowledge about the street art. You said that you got tired of hearing me say that I did not know who the artist was or what the meaning behind the art. Here, I could have educated you better about street art. Unlike artists in a gallery, street artists don’t have artist statements that you can read that summarize their work. Often times, they let the work “speak for itself”. Moreover, some of the artists prefer to stay anonymous and sometimes purposely hide the true meaning of their work from the general public. This creates a bit of mystery around street art which I find alluring. (Apparently you did not.) Every time I learn a new fact about a piece or get the opportunity to meet another artist, I delight in adding that information to the tour. It is like hidden treasure. Possibly you did not hear me, because people tend to mill around taking photos, but I did tell the group about many of the pieces on the tour. I took a street art tour in Mexico City and my guide did not know the underlying meaning of some of the pieces, but it did not detract from my experience. Enjoying the art for its aesthetics and how it makes you feel is also a valid and desireable way to interact with it. During my safety orientation, I had emphasized that the participants should communicate their concerns to me, so that they could have the best experience. For some reason, you did not feel comfortable doing that during the tour itself. This experience has motivated me to find ways to improve communication with my customers so that they can get the most out our tours and feel comfortable telling me in the moment if they have concerns. Thanks, Carmen

Super way to explore
Dec 2019
Carmen and Clarence were super, right from the online booking and emails with extra information to the tour itself. Carmen was a great guide, knowledgeable about the graffiti art and about bikes. She fixed a flat in no time! We got to see more of true Mexican neighbourhoods in Puerto Vallarta and enjoy the outdoors and a little exercise at the same time.

Ride with them, even if you don't think of yourself as a rider
Jul 2019
This was a huge amount of fun. It was a great way to see parts of Puerta Vallarta that most tourists never see. Clarence is both knowledgeable and fun to be with. The cycling was easy, and the art he showed me was great. I'll ride with them every time I'm in PV.

Awesome!
Mar 2019 • Couples
HIGHLY recommend! Clarence and Carmen graciously fit us in knowing we had limited time before leaving PV. And lucky us they did! The tour was awesome. What a great way to get out of the typical tourist mode a vacationer can get in. We loved seeing and hearing about all the fantastic street art, but also loved simply riding around and seeing areas/things we never would have experienced otherwise. Icing on the cake was experiencing the easy to ride and so comfortable fat bikes. Carmen was our guide and she was amazing....safety conscious, enthusiastic and very accommodating in ensuring our experience was wonderful. And wonderful it was! Thank you!

The Best Way to Explore PV
Nov 2018 • Couples
My girlfriend and I did the PV grafitti tour and loved every minute of it. Our guides, Clarence and Carmen were very friendly and stopped to explain the stories behind each piece of art we saw along the way.

There were plenty of stops, so many in fact that I lost count, but they were all awesome! The fat bikes were also extermely easy to ride; even my my girlfriend was able to get the hang of it, having not ridden a bicycle in years!

The roads are a bit rough, but the bicycles powered through it like nothing. I can't explain how it does it, but it's amazing.

If you ever visit PV, do yourself a favor and do one of the tours with Puerto Vallarta Cycling; future you will thank past you for it. This was certainly our most memorable experience in PV, thanks to Clarence and Carmen!
