About
My name is Diego. I have a bachelor's degree in tourism and a master's in local economic development from the University of Guadalajara.
I created this experience to introduce travelers to Guadalajara, the city where I was born and raised.
More than a regular tour, I'd like to provide you with a thoughtful progression through the city, with an emphasis on history, architecture and socio-political movements.
In a fun and slow-paced 3-hour walk, you'll see 10+ of Guadalajara's
fundamental landmarks, including:
• The Cathedral.
• The city square and the main plazas.
• The goverment buildings.
• Templo Expiatorio.
• Mercado Libertad (the largest indoor market in Latin America).
• Chapultepec cultural corridor.
• Colonia Americana.
• Hospicio Cabañas.
• Degollado Theater.
• ...and more!
This is a fully-private experience, meaning your guide will give you exclusive attention and we'll go at your own pace, so a personalized high-quality experience is guaranteed.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- PWB91120 contributions5 Star Lake Chapala Day Trip! This is my third trip to Guadalajara and each time I’ve hired Diego to provide me with amazing experiences, insights and tastes of this amazing part of Mexico. Our recent day trip to Ajijic & Chapala was another 5-star experience. We appreciated the pickup at our AirBNB, the authentic birria tacos breakfast stop, the cultural aspects of these towns and of course the history and beauty of the lake. Diego always maintains the perfect pace and keeps us engaged with his knowledge and great energy!Written 16 December 2024
- ChongSeng0 contributionsChoose Diego when you are in GuadalajaraI thoroughly enjoy the tour with Diego, not only he showed his great knowledge, insights and professionalism, but also his passion towards his hometown. We had great conversation throughout the tour with topic varies from the Mexican politics, social issues and local cultures. Diego’s flexible on handling the tour, for instance, the Bernabe Workshop was not open on that day, Diego was quick to suggest alternate activities or attractions to open my eyes and deepen my understanding towards the local communities and neighborhoods. In addition, Diego’s recommendations on the food places were legit. The street foods and local shops suggested by Diego provide the warm, fresh and reasonable-priced foods which you won’t find in tourist-trap areas. Last but not least, we took the metro to go back to the centro area where Diego accompanied me to Hospicio Cabañas even though it’s not part of the tour package. In conclusion, if you ever happen to be in Guadalajara, choose Diego and you won’t regret it. P/S: Diego is also a good photographer who helps travelers to take tons of great photos.Written 25 November 2024
- endlessfin1te0 contributionsFun, Passionate, and KnowledgeableI had two full-day tours with Diego, one for Guadalajara/Tlaquepaque and one to Tequila/Guachimontones. Diego’s tour caught my attention because he actually studied tourism and seemed to have a genuine desire to help bolster his hometown’s image in the tourism world. Diego exceeded my high expectations by offering more than just history lessons and translation. He effortlessly tailored the tour’s pacing, food choices and timing, as well as the topics we discuss to my personal preference. I felt comfortable during the entire tour. Being a world traveler himself, Diego is well-versed in international cuisine and very fluent in English. Diego’s restaurant recommendation (Rio Viego in Andares) and food choices were on point. I tried deep fried tripe tacos and tejunio for the first time during our tour. Carnitas would not be my first choice for tacos in the U.S., but Diego opened my eyes (taste buds?) to different cuts of carnitas. Jowl and loin carnitas in Mexico is so much more flavorful than what I’ve ever had. Who knew you could pick and choose the part of pig you want to eat from? I learned so much about the tequila-making process and the supply chain during our private distillery tour. We even snuck a couple pieces of agave behind-the-scenes! I highly recommend a tour with Diego. You are sure to learn a ton!Written 20 November 2024
- V8801VWjoanneb0 contributionsEducational and relaxedLoved this trip. Area was both quaint and modern. Diego was a caring and knowledgeable host. His expertise in the history and current day politics of the area enhanced our experience. The balance of escorted tour and free time made far a most enjoyable day.Written 12 November 2024
- J1927OTangelal0 contributionsUnforgettable Personalized TourThis was an unforgettable tour with an incredibly knowledgeable guide. We started our day at the local market for some delicious birria breakfast, went to a museum, bought tickets to see an orchestral performance at the theatre, and then toured and learned about the city and it's people. I wanted to see a library and we made a stop there just for me! We got to see the city's beautiful churches and eat yummy pastries. My boyfriend wanted to know about some of the artisanal local beers, and we ended the tour there.Written 5 November 2024
- F7390UHeriks0 contributionsA great experience with a great guideDiego was a great and knowledgeable guide. He new all the local history and just about every building. Took us to some spots we'd never would have found on our own. He took us to breakfast and to get some bread at local spots that were amazing. Highly recommend this tour.Written 5 November 2024
- R1069YZkarlas0 contributionsAmazing authentic Tapatio food! This is an amazing bilingual experience, you get to experience the authentic side of Guadalajara cuisine and culture. Diego did amazing job allowing us to really experience Guadalajara.Written 1 November 2024
- 545kumudr0 contributionsAn absolute must for the foodies!!Diego shared some fantastic places to eat authentic Mexican food. I loved tacos at Felippes for breakfast and unbelievable ceviche at another stall in Mercado Libertad. The highlight was lunch of traditional Birria in a beautiful old hacienda El Pilón de Los Arrieros. It was so good we went back for dinner the next night!! Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge on historical sites we visited along the way.Written 27 October 2024
- sandrasE7151MI0 contributionsFantasticDiego was very knowledgeable, offered multiple recommendations based on what we were asking for, and answered a bunch of questions we had about anything and everything, not just food. For the tour you will be going to a local market (very authentic Mexican), as well as a nice restaurant after a walk. Food was delicious, and the tour filled with interesting information about Guadalajara. It's a private tour, so make sure to ask for recommendations. Diego was very generous and everything he recommended was fantastic.Written 7 August 2024
- Larissa F0 contributionsAwesome tour and trip!My husband and I had a wonderful time with Diego. He was so knowledgeable about the city and its history that it truly amazed us. Diego was also very accommodating to our needs and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour and visit to Guadalajara.Written 12 July 2024
- mikiemd0 contributionsA not to miss tour in GuadalajaraDiego was awesome and extremely knowledgeable about the historic sites we visited. He was extremely accommodating and at no time, did we feel pressured to move at a faster pace. During the time we were there. an issue with international cell service caused us to be "disconnected" outside of hotel WiFi. He helped us find a place to remedy the issue, so we had cell service during the rest of our stay. Diego is also excellent in keeping in touch with you. We chose to do this tour as a couple and that was one of the best decisions we have made compared to other tours elsewhere we have taken in the past. It is well worth the extra charge. His tour was the most memorable time of our stay in Guadalajara. We would highly suggest this tour and do it EARLY in your stay. He has great recommendations for places to see and eat. That way, you can take advantage of those to plan the rest of your stay. Had we more time, we would not have hesitated to take another of his tours to Chapala or a tequila experience. You will not be disappointed with the tour! Very highly recommended! - dbk42780 contributionsGreat local experienceExcellent tour! Diego grew up in the area and has a great understanding of how history, culture and food all connect. The food in the market was delicious and Diego also provided a locals perspective on Guadalajara history as you walk to the final food spot. I really enjoyed both the food and Diego's company. Highly recommend.Written 29 May 2024
- C1919SVsylvial0 contributionsA wonderful personal tour.Diego provided a perfect tour of food in the market. It could be easy to get overwhelmed, but he knew exactly where to go to get the best “barbacoa”, “tortas ahogadas”, and the finale “birria” in a picturesque plaza we would never have explored, if not for Diego. Diego grew up in Guadalajara and has personal connection to this city. Highly recommend his tour.Written 21 May 2024
- nosnarky0 contributionsGreat private tourDiego led me around Centro and Tlaquepaque finding a great tour and history lesson. We walked at my pace as he pointed out the must see buildings, statues, and artwork. I really enjoyed the casual, not rushed tour of these areas. I can whole heartedly recommend this tour as a fantastic way the spend time in Guadalajara.Written 8 May 2024

He knows so much about the people and customs of this area He was very attentive to our needs and we enjoyed spending the day with him. We had a great lunch and saw so many local artisans which is what we like to do in new places. If you are in Guadalajara you must do this. You will not regret it.Written 14 March 2024

Diego offered a delightful trip this week. We walked through gorgeous areas as he pointed out details, sharing history & stories of this city. He augmented the visuals with his own color prints of the interiors of several magnificent buildings/homes. He was patient in answering all our questions - a lot when 4 adults are marveling at the sights, sounds & tastes around us!
AND he had to switch between English & Spanish since my 2 in-laws primarily speak Spanish. We visited all the venues on our itinerary, stayed on time & he provided many recommendations for later on too. I didn’t expect to have such a good time, & was cautiously hopeful but can declare we are ABSOLUTELY thrilled with our experience & highly recommend you tour with him. He even adjusted the pace as we needed & I took some fantastic photos, I’ll share some with you!
GOOD JOB DIEGO, we shall definitely be back again to explore the rest of this area & surrounding environs!
God bless you my friend!

Diego's tour was informative about this history of the city starting in Col Americana moving to the historic city center. He was easy to understand and knowledgeable. Diego allowed for flexibility as well, if we wanted to spend more time some where, get a bit to eat or explore any particular thing we was willing to modify the itinerary.
Would highly recommend this tour.

Diego gave an incredible tour! He pointed out history of neighborhoods, architecture, historical figures, and he mixed in general knowledge and information about the way of life in Guadalajara. He is incredibly knowledgeable and answered every question we had while giving suggestions and recommendations on what else we could do/see. The walking tour was a great way to see things we wouldn’t see on a bus tour or driving, I would highly recommend booking a tour with Diego!

Diego provided so much information regarding the history of Guadalajara, the architecture styles, the impact on existing cultures then- and how it all ties in to the city's current day identity.
I had a great time walking around with him, was able to wander around sites freely, felt safe, and HIGHLY recommend taking his tour. I went on to tell the TelMex building story to others in CDMX. Diego's tour is detailed!!
My only suggestion is to double check the calendar for any potential holidays: I booked for "Labor Day" and the museums were closed, though I greatly appreciated seeing Union/workers demonstrations and marches throughout the walk.

This is my 2nd trip to Guadalajara. The 1st time I explored with friends without a guide. This time 3 couples decided to hire Diego for a private walking tour. The difference was amazing. I learned so much more and saw parts of the city I hadn't seen previously. Diego is a wealth of information and could answer any question. He is an expert on this city and is very familiar with everything about it from its history to its architecture. His knowledge of Mexico overall is phenomenal. He is very personable and speaks excellent English. Our entire group would highly recommend him for a private walking tour of the city. He is also able to customize tours if one is interested in specific sites or experiences.

We were two foreigners, who visited Mexico for the first time due to work. Colleagues recommended Guadalajara to us, and we decided to book this guided tour so that we could understand the attractions better. We went through lots of famous histrorical buildings, city attractions and end up at the big indoor market. Everything was great, and Diego was really well prepared with lots of printed pictures showing the history of the city.
Oh, btw, we were also late for almost 20 minutes, and he was so understanding and nice!
Highly recommended!!!

Well, you should know that Diego met all of our expectations. His demeanor, breadth of knowledge of Mexico's history and awareness of various architectural periods of the city made this almost-four hour tour a wonderful and enlightning experience. My wife and I strongly recommend him.

Diego was a fantastic tour guide! He provided us with the right level of interesting information and had a lot of good recommendations for us to consider in our free time--restaurants, museums, other neighborhoods to explore, etc. His tour was a great introduction to the city and we really enjoyed getting to know him along the way.
I was considering a bike tour but decided to book this walking tour with Diego based on his reviews, and I'm so glad I did. I highly recommend this tour!

Diego was fantastic! We booked his walking tour of Guadalajara and his Tonala & Tlaquepaque tours on consecutive days. He was very friendly, communicative, punctual, and very well prepared for each tour. His knowledge was fantastic and we learned so much from both tours. Diego is also such a pleasure to spend the day with. We could not be happier and highly recommend him!

You really get to see everything that central Guadalajara has to offer. Diego stats with a very detailed history in the founding of Guadalajara. He takes you through to see some of the oldest houses in the city. You can tell he is very knowledgeable on the subject and enjoys talking about it. From there we walked through the churches and cathedral. Diego gives history from every perspective, both the good and the bad, so you know you’re getting accurate and unbiased information. From there, we saw multiple neighborhoods and amazing architecture. We stopped and bought some Teguino, a 9000 year old fermented drink (surprisingly refreshing) We made a stop at the San Juan market and it was without a doubt the biggest market I’ve ever been to. Diego helps you find some of the best food around of the 500 food stands available. (in my case it was birria tacos) Diego was very friendly and cool to talk to. Along the way he made multiple recommendations on where to go to dinner, what attractions are nearby and where you can get the best deals on souvenirs. Very immersive and informative, I would very much recommend this tour and any other ones Diego offers. 10/10. 5 gold stars.
