Lucha Libre Experience in Mexico City

By Estacion Mexico Free Tours
About
Soak up one of Mexico’s most beloved past times, the wrestling style called ‘Lucha libre,’ on this 4-hour cultural outing in the country’s capital city. Sip a glass of pulque, an unusual pre-Columbian beverage, at a traditional drinking hole before watching masked wrestlers clash at either the historic Arena Mexico or La Arena Coliseo. Small groups of fewer than 15 people ensure you’ll have an authentic experience without having to brave the big city nightlife unaccompanied.

      Best tours you can find!
The guide was so informed about both the history&past of the city and the country also towards their connection to today’s culture. It was engaging, not boring and I got the chance to have a clearer picture of how the city is founded and enjoyed discovering the places on foot. Thank you!

Great experiences with the tours with Diego
I did The Original Walking Free Tour of Historic Downtown and The Roma/Condesa Free Tour with Diego. He did an excellent job giving an overview of Mexican history and what is happening in both areas currently. He also provided great advice for things to do in Mexico City. I also wanted to add that his English is excellent.

A morning walk across Mérida’s historic center.
Luis’s walking tour across the historic center in Mérida was a delight! His passion for the city's history and culture shone through as he guided us through the charming streets of Mérida. Luis’s knowledge was impressive, and his storytelling made the tour both informative and engaging. I highly recommend joining his tour for a memorable and enriching experience of this beautiful city!

A great off the beaten path tour
We had a wonderful cable car tour of the Ixtalpulca neighbourhood. we had an opportunity to take a ride on the worlds, largest cable, car line and see Mexico City from above. We travelled to a less touristic neighborhood, and had a chance to see how every day people live. Our fantastic guides Leonardo and Erica provided a candid glimpse into their lives. We also had the opportunity to see the wonderful street art on the rooftops of the buildings which can only be seen from above, if you have a few extra days in Mexico City, I highly recommend this tour.

Great tour with friendly knowledgable guide
Our tour of Mexico City historic Center led by Ulysses ( also known as Warrior) was wonderful .Warrior was funny, smart, knowledgeable and clearly great at his job . There is so much to see in the downtown historic center and we appreciated his curation of our first look. He also gave helpful suggestions for where to eat , which museums to make sure to not miss etc. The tour exceeded our expectations . A note to fellow travelers, make sure you have money to tip and to tip well. The tour guides make a living showing the cities they love and some people on our tour didn’t come prepared or didn’t understand that free means no specific cost for the tour not that there should be no cost at all and had no money with them . This was the 3rd walking tour with this company both in Mexico City and in Oaxaca and all have been great .

      Great budget tour
this site is amazing, and our tour guide (carmina) was knowledgeable, patient, and a great speaker. I highly recommend this tour but please (!) take their tips seriously— wear a hat and comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen, bring something to eat for lunch, and bring a lot of water! if you’re prepared you will have an incredible experience. If you can spend the money, a private tour will probably be best because getting to the site isn’t that easy and this eats up almost a whole day. but if you don’t want to break the bank this tour is fabulous.

Amazing tour of Centro with Carmina
We joined the Free Walking Tour of Mexico last week with Estacion Mexico and our guide Carmina - she was fantastic! We are big fans of free walking tours and have a joined alot on our travels, this was definitely one of the best quality ones. Our guide was super knowledgable and articulate - she explained everything so clearly and so precisely and we learned so much about Mexican history and culture. She also had a lot of tips for after the tour on where to eat, which museums to go to depending on your interests, and was also so considerate about leading the group through more shady areas / side of the streets since the tour was midday. Highly recommend!

      Not to be missed!
I took the Coyoacan walking tour with Javier last Thursday. As luck would have it, I was the only guest on the English walking tour. Javier is incredibly knowledge and made the neighborhood come alive while grounding the route within a broader history of the city and Mexico. Coyoacan itself was beautiful and the 2.5 hrs flew by. Muchas Gracias Javier for the wonderful tour!

Fantastic way to learn recent Mexican history through murals
This was an amazing experience! The tour is built as two hours on the website, but lasted about four. That is because Erin, our guide, has a degree in anthropology, and is passionate about Mexican history and specifically, murals. She studied them extensively for years. She went into enormous detail about the symbolism of every Merrill we saw first in a university, and then at the Palacio Bellas Artes, with a brief stop in between in a market. If you want to learn about Mexican history over the last, hundred years or more through the art of murals, this is definitely the tour for you. It might be a little bit too much detail for people not interested in that history, but I loved it! It began at 10:30 and since we didn’t finish up until around 2:40, there is no chance to have lunch, which would be my only suggestion to them - to have a different starting time if it is going to go that long. Otherwise, I would suggest having a big breakfast, or bring some snacks along with you. But really, this was a top-notch tour led by a passionate, articulate guide, who really knows her Mexican history.

Cool pyramids but READ THESE WARNINGS BEFORE YOU GO
The pyramids are cool but there are so many warnings the company should give before you go that nobody told us. We weren't appropriately prepared and it made for a much worse experience. READ THESE WARNINGS BEFORE YOU GO. -First, the website advertised that the whole excursion would take 6 hours. When we arrived, we were informed it would take AT LEAST SEVEN hours. This meant we missed a restaurant reservation because of the extra time. (This doesn't even include the fact that someone on our tour had a medical emergency, and our tour guide left us at the entrance of the tour for an hour to take him to the medical services. This isn't her fault, but it cost us an extra hour, and meant we were in the direct sun even longer. There should be better protocols for these things.) -There is almost NO SHADE the entire time and YOU WILL GET A SUN BURN. BRING A HAT. Not just a baseball hat--a hat with a brim to protect your neck. Also wear LOTS OF SUNSCREEN or wear long sleeves and pants in light colors. Almost every single person on our tour got sunburned, including people of darker skin tones. -THERE IS ONLY WATER AT THE VERY BEGINNING AND END. They didn't tell us this. Walking in the sun for 4+ hours at the hottest part of the day is dehydrating. You need to buy water at the entrance or you will regret it. -THERE IS NO REAL LUNCH/FOOD AVAILABLE. We had a chance to get food from the vending machines at the museum, but it was just junk food. -THERE ARE LOTS OF STEEP STAIRS. If you have a fear of heights or problems with stairs, this may not be the tour for you. -THE TOUR BUS IS NOT PRIVATE. We took public transportation to get there, during rush hour in CDMX. This included taking a coach bus where a movie was being played at a very loud volume. You may want to bring headphones to drown out the sound. You also can't leave anything on the bus, since you won't have the same vehicle on the return trip. Ultimately, you'll be walking for 4+ hours in direct sunlight at the hottest part of the day. Our tour guide was nice, helpful, and knowledgeable, but the company does not prepare visitors enough for what to expect. As I say, the pyramids are cool but you need to know what you're getting yourself into.

To be clear, the actual Lucha Libre event was fantastic. My issue was with the location to meet. We were to meet at an enormous roundabout with many corners and Metro exits. We arrived early and wandered all over with no success. Even our concierge had difficulty determining which location to go to. As it was, we ubered over to the event, looking for the telltale pink shirts/umbrellas an hour before the event was to start. We sat at a little hole-in-the-wall having a cerveza with another couple who had the same issue. Never did see the pink outfits.
My recommendation is to uber to the Arena Mexico on your own. Ubers are extraordinarily inexpensive (compared to any city I've used them in). Buy tickets at the ticket office. DO NOT BUY FROM SCALPERS. They will show you first row seats and charge 500 pesos.each ticket. We purchased at the ticket office for 380 pesos for the two of us. We sat in the 6th row. The event was a blast..it is great theatre...very cheesy, but that's what we were expecting.
All in all, the evening was great, although we were out Cdn$90+ as we ended up paying on our own...total if you do it yourself was about Cdn$60 with high(er) quality masks...grantd, we did not get any of the other offerings (dancing/mezcal, etc, but the experienece itself was fantastic and am so happy that we did not bail on the evening just because we did not find the group.

The tour was actually good and the wrestling was super fun to watch and the tour guide was very nice. The only thing I'll say is that it is quite pricey for what you get. This tour is really for tourists who are nervous about going to the match themselves and need someone to show them where to go and what to do. The tour cost $45 per person, but the actual tickets to the match were only around $6. You do get a few beers and and some mariachi music, but if you're feeling adventurous you can very easily just buy the tickets online and go yourself and save quite a bit of money. I will say it was fun to be there with a group, so if you are looking for more of a group experience and a guide to show you the ropes than this is certainly a good tour to go with.

Lucha libre at Arena Mexico is goofy, crazy, colorful, and utterly foreign to us. We ended up buried in the crowds, got $13 tickets at the box office after being jostled and jammed along with everyone else, and were seated ten rows back and right along the entry and exit ramps for the wrestlers. We were right amongst the avid Mexican fans who cursed and cheered and ate and drank loads from the roving vendors and rushed to lift their little kids for photos with their favorite luchadors. The two hour show was silly, obviously fake, and also tremendously skilled physical effort involving both young wrestlers and many who appeared to have been in the ring for decades. These guys are giving their all and taking some whallops! We were sober and perhaps this is even better if you get tipsy ahead of time, but great fun altogether! Go!

Check the schedule for luche libre at Arena Mexico. In town and close. Arrive 30 minutes early (weekdays as we did this on a Tuesday) and buy your tickets at the window to the left of the main entrance. You then will go through a pat down security check. If you have a luche libre mask, feel free to wear it! You will get seated by an usher so tip 20 pesos. No hats. Food is minimal inside (dry sandwiches etc) but cheap along with beer. Restrooms clean and have attendants. Please tip again. There were 4 ‘shows’ with each except the last having 3 rounds. Best views are seats that face the entryway of the wrestlers as the big TV screens are above. Two hours. Taxis waiting outside for double the regular price so walk a few blocks before hailing one. Lots of families! Tickets on the floor were $20USD each.

This tour was really fun for a pleasant evening! We met later in the evening broadly after dinner time, headed to a pulquearia for some very tasty pulque, cervesa, and salsa dancing. You'll probably be milling around with the rest of the group if you're not dancing, so I recommend just going for it. Even if you can't dance salsa, just have fun.
The lucha experience was of course, amazing. We had so much fun watching the Luchas flying through the air, flipping each other, and it was a good time. Beers to your seat are 100 peso each, and quite large. Lots of fun!
The your ends right outside of the lucha arena, so be prepared to handle crowds, taxis, and bustle while trying to figure your way out.

Give it a shot, it was a lot of fun!

We booked this event and was sent confirmation of our booking. We showed up to the event and could not find them. We finally find a message through the booking (not email or phone call) that the event is cancelled because of Covid restrictions. That is ok with us but do not book until city eases Covid restrictions. Tour company should of known and cancelled ahead of time, and/or called us to let us know so we don't pay a taxi and show up at the event. Still waiting for a refund.

He is very passionate about the history of Mexico City and it shows. Aldo led the tour to the Lucha Libre show and it was really fun! Highly recommended!

I would highly recommend this tour. First you are brought to a traditional Mexican bar and dance place, where you get to try an alcoholic drink, there's a live band playing and everyone gets up to dance. We also got some beers. Then we were brought to the Lucha libre show in the arena, you get given a mask too which is great. We arrived about half way through the show, which was a good idea as there are a lot of fights and it's similar each time. It was very entertaining and good fun. Our tour guide Alejandro was brilliant too. He got some of the people up dancing and told great stories.

Fantastic experience. Our guide, Arturo, was welcoming, funny and informative. He told us all about the traditions and events and took great care of us. The mezcaleria before the event was a lot of fun. The wrestling itself was great -- the whole arena was cheering the good guys, howling at the bad guys and roaring with laughter. What a terrific spectacle!
