About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 977ginaf0 contributionsAmazing visit to the Teotihuacan PyramidsFirst of all, I have to thank both our driver Jaime Fernandez and our local guide Israel Alva for making our visit of the Pyramids so exceptional. They were both very friendly, attentive, kind and knowledgeable about the area. The pyramid visit was autstanding and Israel patiently answered all my questions. They then brought us to Pueblo Magico, a boutique where I found all the authentic handicrafts I was looking for. It was great! The owner was very generous. And then Jaime drove us safely back to the hotel among really busy traffic. Thank you to all for a memorable adventure!!!!!Written 11 January 2025
- jennifergF8030NV0 contributionsArmando is the best!We went to mexico city and Armando was amazing! We had a great time in the Centro and Xochimilco. He had a lot of fantastic information, made sure we ate well, and saw all the important things. We highly recommend Armando for any tours in Mexico City.Written 30 December 2024
- Katie A0 contributionsBook with Pato!!!Pato was an amazing tour guide!! She did an amazing job customizing a tour for exactly what we wanted to do in Mexico City. She is so sweet telling us about the history, taking photos like a professional photographer, and going out of her way to make the day so special for us. We went to a cemetery, a local’s home to learn about the ofrendas, a market, and a church.Written 3 November 2024
- X2046AGdebrac0 contributionsMucha Lucha - Jaime is the best!!!Jaime is an excellent tour guide! Warm, punctual, knowledgeable, and fun! Jaime reached out to us via WhatsApp to confirm our pick up time the evening before our match. He showed up at our hotel exactly when he said he would and provided us with a crash course in Mexican wrestling during our ride over to Arena Mexico. The match was a blast because we knew what was going on. Jaime even gifted us lucha libre masks - they made for fantastic photos! After the match, we enjoyed a meal of tacos and aqua frescas with Jaime and learned more about Mexico. My husband and I felt as if we had spent the evening hanging out with an old friend. He was generous with his knowledge and time. We highly recommend Jaime!!!Written 29 October 2024
- rocesjoaquin0 contributionsPrivate tour to Tletololco, Teotihuacan pyramids and Basilica de Nuestra Señora de GuadalupeOur tour guide and driver Jaime was very knowledgeable , friendly and patient with us. He really took his time to show us around and gave us a lot of information regarding the different sites we visited today . We highly recommend this tour group ( Stepping Mexico ) and especially their tour guide Jaime. I would definitely use them again whenever we get the chance to come back to Mexico City.Written 24 October 2024
- VRMontana0 contributionsBecause list item done!We arrived around 9am on a Thursday on our private tour and beat the crowds, which was good to experience the acoustics at the Temple of the Moon and get some good pictures. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the temples and construction and answered all of my many questions. Strongly recommend a guide. Great driver, was friendly and we chatted about life in Mexico. Wonderful experience.Written 20 September 2024
- Getaway6240080 contributionsGreat experience - must try!We had a wonderful experience! Our guide Patricia was very friendly and knowledgeable and made the whole evening memorable. We didn’t know anything about Mexican wrestling but Patricia explained everything clearly and we were able to fully enjoy the experience. Would recommend to anyone coming to visit Mexico City!Written 14 September 2024

Thank you so much to everyone we met, it was so lovely to learn about Mexican culture, eat real local food, and experience the hot air balloon at sunrise. 🖤Written 5 September 2024

- 184rezae0 contributionsPyramids of the Sun and MoonMy trip to Mexico City was wonderful. What made it even better was the guided tour we took to the Pyramids. It was a great tour. Our guide, Jaime, was a knowledgeable, polite gentleman with lots of historical stories and facts. Overall the best tour guide we had ever met.Written 19 June 2024
- C5793EFpaula0 contributionsGreat tour of the Teotihuacan Pyramids! This tour was outstanding. The guide was very informative and let us decide when we wanted more detail/time on specific topics. The highlights for me included a demonstration of how the pigments were made and the variety of ways the maguey plants were used. Even if you are not a fan of early starts, I do recommend that to beat the crowds and (seasonally) to beat the heat. A hat and sunscreen is recommended for the tour!Written 19 June 2024
- 756mirat0 contributionsStepping Mexico's appalling private tour of Tulum and Cenote del ParaisoA big group of family and friends visited Cancun in May 2024 for a wedding and I organised a private day tour for us. I stressed that we required an exceptional guide with proficient English language skills. The tour on 6th May was the worst experience we have ever had with a tour company and it was a huge embarrassment for me personally as I had encouraged 22 other guests to join at great cost to them. I am doubly disgusted with the huge delay in response from RENE, who appears to run the Cancun based tours for Stepping Mexico. After much chasing, the only compensation we received was a refund for one guest who had to pull out as she fell in the hotel and fractured their groin. Our specific experience was as follows: 1. VERY POOR QUALITY GUIDE The guide's English was extremely poor. At the start of the tour whilst we were using the toilets in the gift shop, he just disappeared and we spent ages looking for him. His knowledge of the archaeological site was minimal. He kept repeating the same point over and over again. I kept asking him to clarify what he was saying and then tried to relay it to the group (it was very frustrating). He did not keep the group together; he would walk ahead and talked as he walked, without even looking behind at us. I repeatedly told him to wait for everyone to gather before he started speaking, but he stubbornly carried on walking and talking to himself until people lost interest. He then had the rude audacity to blame the guests for not staying together and not listening. How could they when he speeded ahead and could not be understood by anyone? Towards the end of the tour he even abandoned me and some of the other guests who had stopped for photos. Absolutely appalling behaviour! 2. NO RESTAURANT BOOKING AND RENE ABSENT FROM TOUR I asked Rene back in March to sort out a restaurant for lunch, repeating many times that pizza was ok. He kept referring me to vegan restaurants or posh restaurants with unsuitable menus. He also kept insisting we have lunch at the end of the tour AFTER the cenote. I repeatedly had to tell him people could not wait from breakfast til 4pm to eat yet even on the day of the tour he was pushing for this. I was shocked when RENE arrived to pick us up on the morning of the tour and told me he would not be accompanying us because he was going to Tulum to check out a place to eat, and then to the cenote to reserve tables for us. How totally unacceptable to be doing this on the day of the tour when he had 2 months advance notice and planning time. He had told me you would accompany us on the tour; he didn't keep his word but left us with the useless driver-guide. To top it all off, both drivers got lost and couldn't find the restaurant wasting more of our valuable time. We had to use Google maps on our phones to guide the driver as he was also incapable of using his own google map properly. 3. NO/POOR AIR CONDITIONING IN MINIVAN The guests were very hot and uncomfortable throughout the travelling. Some guests said the AC was very weak, most of the guests said it was non existent. For an expensive private tour, we expected a luxury air conditioned mini coach and an outstanding guide. What we received was the opposite. 4. POOR EXPLANATION OF TULUM SITE We had 5 guests over the age of 70yrs. I had asked RENE in the planning stages if the archaeological site is manageable for them. He told me there were no steep steps and it would take about 1.5hrs total. He did not tell me there's about a km walk from the site entrance to the start of the ruins, with no buggies or other facilities. The aged guests were all mobile and did not require wheelchairs but they obviously walk slower than young people so the tour ended up being much longer than the 1.5 hours Rene had stated. That, coupled with the drivers getting lost on the way to the restaurant meant we had no time to walk around Tulum itself and barely enough time to visit the cenote. I can say the Cenote was lovely and I'm glad I did not agree to Rene's suggestion we drop that from the tour because we were running late. Extremely poor service during the tour and no professionalism or pride in dealing with complaints fairly. Avoid this tour company at all costs.Written 14 June 2024

- pf5940 contributionsA Pixar Up meets Coco hot air balloon experience, unforgettable!Patricia was an amazing tour guide. She elevated our trip with her extensive historical knowledge, humor, and kindness. At one point of the tour, we realized we would have to switch guides due to rules at the temples and were sad she couldn’t join us. If we ever have another opportunity to come back to CDMX, Patricia will be our first call. We will absolutely be sharing her information with friends so they can experience the Patricia CDMX effect.Written 1 May 2024

A great day with our private guide, being picked up and dropped off at our apartment was wonderful. Skipping the line and being the first inside the Frida Kahlo museum was worth every penny. Our guide showed around his home town of Coyoacan stopping for churros then off to our private boat in Xochimilcho. A great day .

As a group of 12 friends and enthusiastic veteran travellers wanting a crash course on everything to do with Mexico City in 3 days, it was never going to be an easy ask.
Rene and his team successfully nailed it for us!
I first found Rene on line over a year ago.
From first contact he was communicative and responsive to all my questions and suggestions.
He then put together a programme for us which included a mini bus for 12 with driver, plus guide for 3 days. In that time we covered Teotihuacán, Zocalo Walking Tour, Frida Kahlo’s House, Coyoacán, Xochimilco, Mexican Markets with eating Extravaganza and Lucha Libre evening.
Our guides Carlos (encyclopaedic knowledge of history first 2 days) Armando (such fun at markets and Lucha Libre) Didier (our market chaperone) and Juan Carlos (our dedicated driver) were all superb.
Rene continued constant communication with me throughout the trip with WhatsApp. When two of our group were a little under the weather one day Rene was instantly responsive and Armando arrived with required treatment from the pharmacy.
Rene (ex BA cabin crew it turns out) even had a word with the staff on our flight out to Mexico.
Such a surprise to be greeted on board our flight personally from the crew.
All of the above organised and booked on complete trust. Rene did not take a penny until the first day was over and even then he was relaxed about how and when we all paid. We eventually all settled up end of day 3.
If you are reading this then you are lucky to have found Stepping Mexico. Don’t hesitate to book.

Carlos was our guide. He had a great knowledge of history, art and architecture. He offered thorough commentary, and made sure we caught all the highlights plus lots of hidden gems. I would happily take another tour with Carlos. Also, he was a super safe and quick driver!
The only complaints were- 1) lunch: he took us to an historic spot, but the meal was not impressive. I would have preferred to have a hidden local gem with great food instead of something historic that is mostly touristic. 2) $ - there was a miscommunication between our concierge and tour as to the charge, so at the end, we got hit with $1000 pesos more than we were told. Also, 2 entrances were not included, which was also a (small) surprise.

Hello Arwen, I really hope you are doing great.
I want to apologise for the terrible “surprise” this is not supposed to happen as all our points of sale must explain our customers what to expect and what not to expect during any of our experiences.
I am terribly sorry about this misunderstanding and I would like to ask you if you are still in Mexico City to contact me if possible. Our phone number is +521 553 961 5094. If there is anything we can do, please let me know.

A wonderful day with tour guide and driver Jaime who was friendly, knowledgeable, and witty. He promptly picked us up in his private vehicle near where we were staying. We went to Xochimilco first in the morning where we rode in our own private trajinera (colorful boat) with snacks provided. We enjoyed both the peaceful canals as well as festive mariachi bands, parties on other trajineras, and food sellers. We stopped at one of the many greenhouses to see the variety of plants grown and sold in the region as well as another stop for a tasty pulque drink (alcoholic beverage made from agave plant). We even had the opportunity to try driving the boat ourselves! Tip: Bottled water was provided but bring cash for canal purchases and additional drinks throughout the day. Tip: Public bathrooms in Mexico cost 5 peso coin each use so bring change.
Afterwards, we headed to Coyoacán for a walking tour of the historical and quaint neighborhood as well as cultural center, lively public square, and bustling marketplace. We then walked to the Frida Kahlo Museum/Blue House scheduled for a 2:15pm entry where we took a guided tour and visited the beautiful grounds. Tip: An additional fee is required if you want to take personal non-flash pictures. Jaime went to get the car while we were visiting the museum and picked us up right outside when we were finished.
Ask for Jaime if you do this tour!

We had an incredible day with Jaime our private guide going to Xochimilco to take a boat ride on the canals, the charming town of Coyoacan, where we explored the old alleys, the beautiful plaza and had a delicious tostada lunch at the local market and the Frida Kahlo Museum, before heading back to the city. Jaime was patient, kind, friendly and knowledgeable about all the areas we visited. We would highly recommend him as a guide and the tour to anyone looking for an amazing day out to explore other parts of Mexico City. It was our favorite day!

We had a wonderful experience during our tour to Xochimilco and Coyoacán. Our private tour guide, Derek, was exceptional. She is very accommodating and knowledgeable about the city and places we visited. She also provided great recommendations on things to do around Mexico City for the duration of our stay. Since we booked a private tour, Derek drove us around in a very nice sedan, her driving skills were exceptional, my husband and I felt safe at all times. Even so that we booked them again for private transportation to and from a concert we were attending at Palacios de Deportes. To highlight the exceptional service we received, we booked the private tour to Xochimilco and Frida Khalo La Casa Azul less than 24 hours prior to the tour because I noticed all tickets to the museum were sold out and this was the only tour available that would allow us to visit La casa azul during our stay. As soon as I booked the tour I receive a call from the tour company confirming our pick up time and they offered to pick us up at our hotel instead of the Meeting point option given when booking the tour online. The next day, Derek was at hotel on time. She drove us to Xochimilco to our first stop, the canal tour was 2 hours and it included tacos placeros to snack on during the tour which were delicious. We had a boat, “ trajinera” to ourselves and throughout the ride we had the option to purchase beverages and other things from the vendors along the way. After Xochimilco we headed to beautiful Coyoacán, where we had lunch, visited el Mercado and the Frida Khalo La Casa Azul museum. Upon arrival, Derek gave us options of things to do prior to our museum entrance to ensure we maximized our time in Coyoacán. We decided to eat first then shop. Derek held our purchases in the car while my husband and I toured the museum which I thought was a very nice gesture. La Casa Azul tour was an amazing experience, I highly recommend it. it only took us about 2 hours to see it all. Once we were done with the tour Derek was waiting for us at the exit with the car ready to go, by then we were exhausted so we were very happy to see she was there. Before leaving Coyoacán, She offered if we wanted to stop by anywhere for dinner or head to the hotel. We opted for the hotel. Derek was by far one of the best customer service we have receive from a tour company. Her service was exceptional on both occasions throughout the entire time. I highly recommend booking this tour and if you can get Derek as your tour guide, it will be the cherry on top.

Our tour of Coyoacán and Xochimilco was a great way to spend several hours in a relatively quiet part of the city. Our tour guide, Jaime, was very knowledgeable, flexible, and friendly. We'd definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to explore these two areas, as they seem a little more difficult to access for tourists without a guide.

Patricia’s wonderful tour started early enough to avoid the crowds on canals of Xochimilco which allowed unobstructed viewing of the scenery. After a casual walk through the jardin’s of Coyoacán, we toured Frida Kahlo’s Blue House. It was an outstanding day - spent with a very knowledgeable, thoughtful guide. We would recommend this guide and tour for the insight provided on the early history of Mexico City and the Kahlo-Rivera relationship.

This was a nice day spent at 3 must see, classic tourist venues in Mexico City. Francisco was calm, pleasant and patient. We had 3 kids and he never rushed. He adjusted the schedule to accomodate us. Highly recommend as part of your visit.
Recommend allotting more time for Coyoacan and less time on the boats. I recommend against the mariachi bands because you hear them enough from other boats close by. The Frieda museum was great insight into her life, esp if you are a fan.
Kids enjoyed the reptile museum (holding the snake and chameleon) although in after thought, it may not have been appropriate to support that cause.
Overall good value.

Jaime was an amazing guide who expertly guided our group of 10 through all the activities in a comfortably sized passenger van. We were a bit low on energy due to a full day of activities the day prior, but Jaime was able to raise our spirits in no time. We had lots of fun chanting, singing with the Mariachis, trying various flavors of pulque, bargaining with the river merchants, and eating some very good food at the Coyoacan market. Highly recommend doing this tour with Jaime!
