About
On this tour we’ll wind through the market’s lively banquetón, or prepared food area, tasting tacos, aguas frescas and tamales. After that, we’ll stroll through the gigantic fruits and vegetables building, and learn about—and taste!—prehispanic ingredients, such as grasshoppers and chicatana ants. After a quick stop to rest, we’ll leave the market to take the subway back to the Historic Center where we’ll finish up the tour with a refreshing drink and a snack in a newly revived part of the city that you won’t want to miss!

A wonderful experience

This has been my second food tour with Eat Mexico, and they truly do a great job. Such a wonderful learning experience, intimate setting to ask questions, and really great food! Highly recommend booking a tour with these guys. Merced was fantastic as well. Try going on a weekday for a slower pace.

Some of the best food we ate on our trip, and our guide Adrian knew everything about everything. The small tour size allows you to ask more questions and have a more personalized experience with the market. Highly recommend for anyone!

Tour Gastronómico en La Merced -- best part of our trip!
Aug 2021
My partner and I spent a lovely afternoon touring La Merced with Eat Mexico last week. It was (unexpectedly) the highlight of our trip to Mexico City--we learned about the history of markets across the city, and tasted everything from Oaxacan chocolate to smoked cheese to salsa macha to scorpions. (The latter are optional. ;) ) Our guide, Anais, was incredibly knowledgeable, fun, and flexible, steering the tour around what we were most interested in seeing and/or tasting. We never would have understood the market's history so deeply or discovered so many new foods without her guidance. We plan to do the other tours when we come back to CDMX next time! :)

Awesome La Merced Tour with Adrian!
We really loved our tour through La Merced. Adrian was a fantastic guide- he was so incredibly knowledgeable about all the food we tried, culinary history of Mexico, the history of the market, etc. We learned a lot! We also ate some really delicious food. It was so valuable having a guide because this market would have been completely impossible to navigate on our own and we never would have discovered all these delicious spots. Some of our favorites were the tacos de suadero and tacos de cabeza. Highly recommend this tour, 10 out of 10!!

ABSOLUTE MUST DO IN CDMX
Jul 2021
Super highly recommended for any one looking to better understand the culture of Mexico. Our guide Adrian was so knowledgeable on all of the great foods, as well as the history and how each dish came to be. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the tour, so many amazing dishes - many of which we never would have had the chance to try if we went by ourselves. 10/10 MUST DO WHEN IN MEXICO CITY.

Incredible!
Feb 2020
I did this tour in 2018 and LOVED it so much. So when my sister and dad came with me to Mexico City this year they insisted we do the same tour. It was just as amazing as the first time and you get a truly authentic Mexico City experience that you wouldn't get anywhere else (yes, you will eat things you otherwise would never eat! Be adventurous!). It's also really nice to have a guide in an overwhelming and massive market. Not only do the guides know the food, they know the city. Our guide, Adrian, was exceptional and you can tell he has a passion for this city and the food. CHOOSE EAT MEXICO!

Another Wonderful Tour Experience
We recently completed our second Eat Mexico Tour. This time we explored the San Juan Market area with Nico who as in the past was a superlative guide. His knowledge of the area and pacing of the tour were perfect for our small group. Perhaps the best indication of the tour quality is that since we are staying in the area we have returned to many of the tour stops on subsequent days. We would happily book another tour (hopefully with Nico) on our return to CDMX.
