- rebeccahcrane0 contributionsWonderful tour of TeotitlanWe had such a wonderful tour of Teotitlan with Tomas. He was very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable about Oaxaca and his hometown of Teotitlan. I took my mother-in-law and cousin on this tour with my husband as we wanted to see an up-close look at the textile and weaving crafts of this town. We did so much more! He picked us up at our residence at 8am. First, we stopped at the large town market for browsing and shopping, then toured the church, then the cultural center with its lovely installations. Onward to the candle making demonstration! We went to a multi-generations old candle making workshop housed in their home, and watched as she made beautiful candles for Dia de Muertos. Onward to the home of Tomas for the weaving and dye-ing demonstration. But first! We all ate together in his home a delicious meal prepared by his family. The demonstration included showing the myriad ways he and his family create dyes out of natural plants and materials. We saw the miracle of the indigo dye-ing process as well! Then they showed us how they weave on the giant looms where their rugs are made, then we perused a lovely large collection of rugs and chose two beautiful ones to take home. On the way back we stopped at a cemetery to marvel at the flowers placed on the graves, then made an extra-request to Tomas to stop at Tule, which he graciously obliged. He dropped us back off in Oaxaca with a few restaurant recommendations, the one we chose was outstanding (Quince Letras, amazing!!) This tour was the highlight of our trip to Oaxaca. We all highly recommend Tomas and this tour of lovely Teotitlan.Written 11 November 2024
- jaz6110 contributionsExcellent tour with local native guideAmazing local tour guide! Thomas took us to Mitlan, Teotitlan, and for mezcal tasting. This was an up close and personal experience, as Thomas is of Zapotecan descent, so can speak from the vantage point of being a family member where generations of culture and language still continues to thrive. Thomas additionally is from the village Teotitlán, and we had the amazing opportunity for a personal tour of his family’s textile business and how they create quality rugs and other items, which is the focus of the village where he comes from. We wrapped the day with a mezcal tasting which was also fabulous. Thomas is well read and has a great command of the material coupled with relevant personal stories, and a truly personal connection. He speaks fantastic English as well. He brought a cooler with drinks and aways planned ahead. If you want a local guide who brings his heart into his work, I highly recommend Thomas.Written 22 May 2024
- Guide521228207850 contributionsI feel lucky to have done this.I am still there in my heart, and Tomas, Eric and the other guides made my week there something that will stay with me, and lure me back many times in the future. They provided not only transportation to and from the airport to my hotel, but exquisite day trips, and hospitality covering the historical, archaeological and cultural experiences of Oaxaca. They showed much patience with our many queries, satisfied our curiosities and enlightened us in ways beyond any text of guide book. Enriching to say the leastWritten 19 March 2024

- Lynn W0 contributionsReturning CustomersThis is the third time we have entrusted Tomas Vicente as our guide and host to Oaxaca. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone to take better care of you. We enjoy learning about the culture, visiting the sights, and traveling in comfort. Tomas works with his Zapotec colleagues and extended family of weavers to provide unforgettable and delightful immersion in the traditions, crafts and foods of this remarkable and authentic place. We've become so enchanted we'd rather return than go anywhere else. Highly recommend.Written 5 March 2024
- Cynthia Z0 contributionsOaxacaTomas is a wonderful guide. He took us to Tlacolula, which has an enormous market, Teotitlan de Valle for a weaving demonstration, meal and to meet his family, and for a Mezcal tasting which was phenomenal. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Mexico and his Zapotec culture. This is my second trip to Oaxaca and my second year of using Tomas as our guide. He also was our porter back and forth to the airport. He is prompt, helpful, and just a fun person to travel the area with.Written 22 February 2024
- 364dustyd0 contributionsOaxaca at its finest! This is my 2nd trip to Oaxaca with Tomas as our guide. We've seen different sites with different experiences! We loved Tomas' village and meeting his family. Recommend carrying small bills and coins for street musicians and tips. Loved the restaurants outside of Zocalo such as Taviche, Cabiche and SUR du Norte near Santo Domingo. If you like kombucha, you'll love the fresh flavors. I ❤️ Oaxaca and love the flexibility of our Oaxacan guide, Tomas.Written 22 February 2024
- Dreamer188495728100 contributionsAmazing Oaxaca and incredible ThomasI can't recommend taking Thomas's tour enough. My husband and I travelled to Huatulco with our three kids 5,8 and 12 last December. Although we had an incredible time in Huatulco, such a beautiful, natural, safe and laid-back beach town oozing charm, authentic culture, beauty and relaxation, we really wanted to expose the kids to the wonders of Oaxaca, the food, the culture, crafts, traditions, the people and the language. There's no way we would have felt/ been safe driving around on our own, and as extensive travellers pre kids, we knew that a guide would take all the hassle, confusion and uncertainty out of the equation and add priceless insights being a local. From the moment we met Thomas, we were at ease and very happy. The kids all adored him and he entertained and amazed us with fun facts and stories. He took a genuine interest in us and our interests, and tailored the days perfectly to fit in visits and activities we'd enjoy. And we really did! Our experiences with Thomas will last our lifetimes. We are so grateful to him, the care and attention he showed us, his enthusiasm, his polite and gentle nature and his love for his beatifull state were so appreciated.. Mexico is a truly amazing and magical country, the sights, colours, tastes, sounds history are mind blowing. A tour like this with Thomas lets you experience it all, safely and with maximum enjoyment. He helped us every step of the way, but was super respectful that we appreciated some downtime as a family. Anything we needed he was there and he truly went above and beyond. Thank you Thomas, you are truly exceptional and the best at what you do.Written 16 February 2024
- Z1972COlindal0 contributionsAn unforgettable experienceWe saw Oaxaca through the eyes of our extraordinary guide, Tomas, who shared his love for his homeland with us throughout the three days spent with him. We traveled in comfort to the sights surrounding the city, learning not only about the history and culture of the region, but by weaving in his story and that of his Zapotec village (in excellent English, delivered with warmth, charm and humor), we came away with an experience both personal and intimate. We will soon be planning our return to Oaxaca, to expand our knowledge of the area, and to spend more time with this remarkable man.Written 22 October 2023
- jackrain0 contributionsAmazing Tomas of Amazing HuatulcoTomas is a wonderful guide both in terms of having a wealth of knowledge about the history and culture of Oaxaca City and places in the area, but also his willingness to share about his life and experiences. We toured the important local sites: Monte Albán, Mitla, and Hierve del Agua, but also got a very interesting taste of local customs and the incredible artisanship that one finds in Oaxaca state in visits to local markets and the weaving, wood carving and ceramics shops. The mescal tasting he brought us on was very interesting and we must have tasted 10 different varieties of the maguey spirit. Tomas took very good care of us, looking after our every need. He also is constantly learning and seeking to expand his knowledge and English- speaking ability which is quite good as it is. I would not hesitate to seek him out in the likely event we return to Oaxaca in the future.Written 19 October 2023
