Sumidero canyon good tour but I didn't understand much
The tour was professional and quite good but didn't really understand as driver and guide only spoke Spanish. With a pickup and drop off from accomadation, we drove to first lookout point for photos, we drove to a canyon boat tour start and saw different animals like monkeys and crocodiles on boat , the tour though didn't end at start, we then drove to town for food stop where we had time to shop or eat.

          Brilliant day out
Excellent customer service from start to finish. Bryan in the office was really helpful with our booking. We chose to leave from their office ( which gave us an extra half an hour for breakfast) on the day trip to the Sumidero Canyon and Chiapa de Corzo. The minibus driver, Miguel, was friendly, helpful and informative from the start. We drove to the departure point for the boats to the canyon. It's a two hour boat journey so it was pointed out that there was a loo ( 5 pesos) by the quay incase we needed it. We were all given life jackets and helped on board. The captain introduced himself, gave us a safety briefing and we set off. What an absolutely fantastic trip along the canyon. Within minutes we'd seen a couple of crocodiles basking in the sun on the shore, a female spider monkey and her babe jumping in the trees, Turkey Vultures, various heron species and cormorants. We got to spot faces in the rocks, learnt a little about the history of the place and shared the captain's enthusiasm for his canyon. When we reached the dam there was a little boat bar where we could by drinks and crisps. The boat then heads back to base at speed ( so be careful with those drinks) but not so fast that we didn't stop whenever we passed more crocodiles and monkeys. We then drove through the city of Tuxtla and up into the mountain to various miradors to see the canyon from above. Amazing views. Then onto Chiapas de Corzo, colorful and bright and cheerful. You can get some lunch here or mooch around the shops. Worth a little walk to the front of the church and then down to the waters edge. A very different laid back approach to shopping after San Cristobal, the stall/shop owners acknowledged my presence , told me to ask them if I needed any help and then let me browse. Back to the bus, back to San Cristobal , fabulous time, thoroughly recommend it.

          AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Worse tour we have ever done. Absolutely terrible experience. We were suppose to leave San Crisotbal at 0800 did not leave until 0930 due the driver being unable to find people on the tour. The driver was very erratic and in a rundown old van, the trip was horrible to say the least. The driver also took us to a place to have food which resulted in food poisoning!! We were also told there would be an English guide for us, however is was all in Spanish. AVOID THIS TOUR COMPANY at all costs.

Tour Palenque - don’t do it!
Tour from San Cristobal to Palenque. Never had such a bad experience with a tour in my whole life. The bus is in terrible conditions, quite old (which might not be an issue by itself) and completely dirty. There are multiple holes in the window, it makes you feel the travel is unsafe - images below. The driver while driving (!!!) watches at music movies, use his mobile phone to call and text. He drives like a crazy, as he is playing on a rally car videogame. On the way back to San Cristobal, the driver stopped by the street and packed the bus with people who were not into the tour. Due to these multiple stops, it took us 6 hours and a half to get back to San Cristobal from Palenque!!! Plus, there was supposed to be - included in the price we payed- a guide in Palenque. Obviously no guide showed up and had to pay one to do a proper tour instead. I would never recommend this travel agency to anyone!

          What a Great tour
While I wasn't enthusiastic about a boat ride down the river, this turned out to be a really wonderful trip allowing for some outrageous views that only a river tour could deliver! Bring your sunscreen and a hat for sunshade! A tour that's worth every penny, Don't forget to tip your tour guide!

          Choose a different tour company!
The canyon is spectacular, but don't use this tour company. We were a group of six, scheduled for December 1 pickup for an English-speaking tour - not at our hotel, but at one of the hotel choices we were given when booking. We were asked to be there at 8:45. At 9:00, we called the office and the agent said, "Today?" Not a good start. She said someone would be there in 10 minutes. At 9:20 we called again, then had a Spanish-speaker call. At 9:30 a van arrived with six Spanish-speakers already aboard. First the driver said that he could only take three of us, then two more. I walked back to our hotel and found the van there offering for me to join and sit in the front seat. OK. Now it is 10:00am. Meanwhile, I got an email from Viatour at 9am reminding me to bring my ticket to the tour TOMORROW. I checked and sure enough my ticket was for TODAY. When we arrived at the launch site, there was no English-speaking guide. Not only that, but see the photo above? Not the boat we were on... instead we were crammed into a slightly larger boat with 40 people -- two seats on each side, not one. Come on, Tripadvisor, you can do better than this!

Great travel agency owner who cares about customer experience
As there are many travel agencies in San Cristobal that do identical day-trips, it is hard for one of them to stand out. As long as you walk around and ask in a few places - you will quickly understand what is the standard price - just don't book any tours in your hotel for double the amount! When we went on a day trip to Palenque, one of the villages we were driving through went on a strike, and were not letting any cars pass through throughout the whole day, no matter how hard we tried to talk them into it. Unfortunately we had to leave our guide & minibus there, "cross the border" and arrange another local guide on the other side as we were determined to see the sights. In the end it all worked out well, and when we returned to San Cristobal and spoke to the travel agency owner - he was very apologetic about the experience we had and refunded us a very fair amount of the sum we paid. Unfortunately the driver didn't speak English and when our minibus was stopped by the locals it was hard to communicate about the situation and the way out of it, but luckily other tourists on the bus helped us out

Hell from the Guatemala side and back. I was left stranded. Vehicle had no treads on tyres. Rude driver and reception.
Hell!. No head count. Dangerous driver began from the Guatemala side, when I booked from San Cristobal de Las Casas to lake atitlan. On the way back. I was literally left at the guatemala border, stranded. The Rude guatemala driver disappeared. No head count or roll call. Outrageous. I am 64. Terrible experience. No treads on the mini van tyres. Don't book here.

          It is stunning
Well organised & good value Weather can change rapidly so prepare for blazing sun & heavy rain. We saw herons,Pelicans,2 Spider Monkeys & 1 swimming crocodile. Most of all & very disturbing we saw thousands of floating plastic bottles which tarnished the experience. If you have a bad back I would definitely give this a miss or sit at the back as it’s a very BUMPY ride at speed.

Nice tour but takes some time
We booked this tour at an agency at the main square of San Cristóbal. The tour consists of three parts: - boat tour through the canyon: very impressive. Lasts about two hours. Boat was fully packed. Unfortunately there was a lot of plastic waste floating in the canyon. My suggestion: double the entry to the canyon and use this money for regular cleaning. It really made me feel very sad to see all this garbage in this amazing landscape. - visit at Chiapas town: we didn’t really enjoy this part. Hardly any nice places to eat. I can imagine why this is part of the tour though. (support the local community) - visiting two viewpoints to see the canyon from up high. I enjoyed this part, but it took in total more than an hour to get there and get back again; not everyone in my group thought it worthwhile (I personally did). The agency told us the tour would take five hours, but it turned out to be almost eight hours! No problem for us, but keep this in mind if you are on a tight schedule. Unfortunately there were no English speaking guides available, so we missed a lot of information during the boat tour.

          NOT FOR ENGLISH SPEAKERS
The tour was full and we were the only English speakers. I appreciate that it's an extra effort to speak to us and translate what was just said but the guide made zero effort. In the end, some other tourists, seeing our predicament and able to translate, kindly provided us with a little information. It was extremely frustrating since she was talking nineteen to the dozen to the other guests who were all nodding or laughing so there was obviously a lot to share. Also we visited two towns but the first one at Zinacantan was really nothing more than a shopping stop. Allegedly a workshop there was little effort put into even showing the Spanish speaking guests how the weaving etc was done. We stayed there too long and in comparison, too briefly at San Juan Charmula. Very disappointing tour all round.

          Over promised - under delivered
We booked this tour in the belief and promise that it would be in English - it wasn't - only Spanish! If it weren't for another person on the tour who spoke a bit of English and did a bit of translating, we would have missed the lot - not good and we weren't happy. First stop was Chamula at a very strange church. Strange by the fact that it was almost voodoo like, very spiritual and like nothing I have ever seen. Essentially there are families there with a sick relative and by performing a ritual which involves passing a live chicken over the sick person and then wringing the chicken's neck the person is said to have passed on their sickness to the chicken! OMG. At Zinacantan we visited a house to see local textiles for sale - a bit touristy. Also in an original earth floor kitchen watching a woman cook tortialls over an open fire. All in all, if you only have a couple of days in San Cristobal don't bother with this tour.

Worst experience in a tour ever!!!
We booked a tour from San Cristóbal to Aqua Azul and Palenque and it was really really a bad experience! The driver was 25 minutes late to pick us up (at 4.00 am !) and his driving was super crazy and absolutely dangerous! We got the worst seats in the bus (all seats are very tiny!) and did not even have the possibility to attach ourselves. The sightings were very touristic but beautiful but we would never ever go on this tour again: it means sitting in a tiny bus for more than 10 hours and will cause you anxiety and pain in your back as well as your head! By the way: the driver must have started his day around 3.30 am and finished around 11.00 pm!!! This is far from normal and absolutely not human!!! I can not even describe how angry and disappointed we are about this tour!

Waterfall is super beautiful. The lagoons are beautiful as well, but can get boring since there is not much to do in the area and it is cold.
