This excursion is a day long trip, and usually starts at 4:00 AM, so I would suggest that anyone interested do what we did: we stretched it into a 2 day trip by staying the night in the town of Palenque!
The waterfalls are beautiful and you can swim in the ponds by yourself or hire a guide who will take you to the best spots to swim and dive (I didn't so I can't give you a price range). The next stop is the Waterfall of Misol-Ha, a nice spot to visit and again swim in the pond (not a turquoise pond).
Palenque, a grand site to visit for those interested in Pre-Hispanic Mayan history and ruins. Simply breathtaking. A reminder, you are in the jungle where the heat can be humid at 90+ degree F.
If you stay in Palenque, take advantage of the next day trip going to Yaxchilan and Bonampak sites, again, Mayan archeological sites with Bonampak having preserved murals (don't get frightened if you happen to be lucky to hear the Howler Monkeys put on a show)!
All sites involve a fair amount of walking and/or stairs.

my guide, miguel, picked me up promptly at 4am. the drive out of san cristobal is tough, with lots of topes (speed bumps) and turns. so, make sure to get good sleep before. don't plan on getting any good sleep on the bus. the breakfast was a buffet with pancakes and fruit. the waterfalls were perfect. we get to palenque about 2pm and stayed for two hours. most people in the van, including myself, brought our bags with us and did not take the van back to san cristobal. if you do take the van back, you'd return about 10-11pm. can't speak highly enough about miguel. he was very attentive. more than just a driver.

You got to see The whole thing, Aqua Azul and The Misol-ha, be aware though that you need to pay for a guide at The last stop, Maya City! Remember to find an english guide with a group or They Will try to get you on a one on one Tour Paying 1200 for The small Tour and 2600 for The Big. Join a group, our guide did not help us out in this situation, we found a group to share The Price with. And They could have mentioned that in The Tour information.

Other than it was great but a long tour.

The Pick up was no hazel and he even dropped us of at The ADO bus central in palenque and took our Baggage along what a great service.

During my visit to San Cristobal de las Casas I booked this tour with Jalapeno Tours. The driver picked me up around 4:10am and made more stops at other hotels to pick up other tourists. One thing I should mention is there are many speed bumps on the drive out of San Cristobal de las Casas. Before reaching the first stop at Cascadas de Agua Azul the driver stopped in Ocosingo so everyone could take a bathroom break or buy a snack or simply get out and walk around. Once we got to Cascadas de Agua Azul the driver gave us free time to be on our own. It was the same way at Misol Ha. Our driver was not a tour guide who explained things he was just a driver taking us to the different places. When we reached the Palenque ruins our driver stepped out momentarily to get our entrance tickets. At Palenque I had two options , explore the ruins on my own or hire a tour guide. Our tour group decided to stay together and we hired our own guide just for us at a good price. The guide was excellent and answered any questions anyone had. He did a great job at explaining the history of the different structures in Palenque. When the tour ended we exited the site and waited for our driver to pick us up and take us back to San Cristobal de las Casas. Again the driver stopped in Ocosingo on the way back in case someone needed a bathroom break. My advice is to use it because its a very long drive back to the city. We got back to San Cristobal and reached the drop off location at the Zocalo Park around 10:17pm. Make a note that in the morning you get a hotel pick up. On the return everyone got dropped off at the same location at the Zocalo. The visits to Agua Azul , Misol Ha , Palenque , make for a very long and tiring day. But in my opinion it was worth it. I had so much fun exploring Agua Azul and Misol Ha. I also enjoyed learning about some of the history of Palenque.

Otisa Tours is an excellent company. New "first rate" tour vans with smooth rides, comfortable seats and air conditioning added to the tour experience to the Palenque archeological site.

Our guide was couteous, friendly and helpful, and our driver was punctual and conscientious.

My friend and I were picked up on time.

HINT: After the final event of the tour, my friend and I asked to be dropped off in Palenque City were we could spend several days to see other sites close to Palenque City. Otisa Tours dropped us in Palenque City which saved us the additional expense of a taxi or bus.

The only small issue was that our guide spoke primarily in Spanish with only occasional English and only when directly asked a question in English. He would give long statements in Spanish which made my friend and I feel like we were missing colorful details about the culture and history of México. Without English speaking guides, I can only give 4-stars.

As there isn’t much info about this tour here’s our personal experience, we booked the tour online through viator:

Firstly we had to go to the tour company to confirm pick up the day before and no one spoke English. We were picked up just after 4am and the driver/guide also didn’t speak a word of English. We had to sit in the back of a tiny mini bus with two other adults that would have been a tight fit even for children. We were all squashed and the air conditioner didn’t work very well. The roads were very windy and there were speed bumps almost every 100m causing a lot of motion sickness and someone on the bus vomited all over themselves. We made our first stop at 7:30 for a breakfast buffet but we didn’t eat there so can’t comment. After a 40 minute stop for breakfast we continued to Agua Azul and arrived at around 9:30. There are places to swim, eat, get changed, buy souvenirs etc. We had 2 hours here before heading to Miso Ha. Miso Ha is another waterfall where most people ate lunch or swam. After a lot more driving we got to Palenque Archeological site but were told the road was closed and we had to pay a group fee of 2000 pesos to get another bus and guide to the Archaeological site. We had a guided tour of only 2 of the remaining sites and all in Spanish, no free time to take photos or explore the other ruins. We left the ruins at 5pm, we made two brief stops for light snacks/toilet breaks on the way home and didn’t return to San Cristobal until 10:45pm. Take what you want from this, the sites are beautiful but it’s a very long, exhausting, uncomfortable, disorganised day. We truthfully spent the night wondering if it was worth the effort.

Took this tour being operated by OTISA, the man driving bus 408 on July 4th - not even a "tour" more like a rude driver dropping you places and not explaining anything. Even worse was his driving was so bad he made 2 women on the bus literally sick to their stomachs. When one asked to pull over the driver declined and said for her to open the window and he would pull over when it was safe on the curvy road. He then proceeded to pass countless safe side curbs to pull into and did not. Not until the women was literally banging on the door begging. When we all got back in after one of the waterfalls the same women opened the window for fresh air and he tried to make her close it because "there is only one of her and more of us (referring to the fact that he wanted to use the air con not the windows) Jesus he was miserable and rude. That man needs to learn how to drive and properly use his breaks.

My personal experience. I travel on june 2018. Two girls one car. A lot of comments related to this route before travel. The reality was a quite different better. Important drive during the day. wake up 5am around 6 am we are on the way. A lot of fog. A lot of Speed bump. The way is in bad conditios plus trees in the way. If was rain the night before. Some people can stop you asking for money from $1000 pesos to $100 pesos. (50 usd to 5usd). What you have to do? Just give them the money and go. Do not talk or ask about. This will put you in risk. Some of this people are groups that are organized to what I really do not have idea. Just give the money and go. take care, drive careful and enjoy your visit to Chiapas. Agua Azul is beatiful and Misol ha to you can swim there. Palenque is a beautiful maya city.Enjoy your experience and let me know how was your trip.
