      AMAZING food and service
This is a must go to restaurant on the island. Our server Martin was amazing, spectacular service. The sikil p’aak was TO DIE FOR!! YOU MUST TRY IT!! It was one of the best foods I’ve ever had in the whole country of Mexico. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Not too expensive, not too cheap. One of the best restaurants on the island for sure.

      Delicious Mayan cuisine!
Delicious food! Everything we tried was amazing, especially the sikil paak and the relleno negro. The cochinita pibil tacos were excellent, and the coconut ice cream was a hit. Our group tried several of the margaritas and the cucumber in particular was so good. Thank you Ix Kool!

      Mayan food experience.
Great and interesting Mayan food experience. There are videos showing where the dishes come from and how they are made. We’ll go again.

      Marvelous Mayan Menu (mmm!)
High-quality traditional Mayan Yucatán cuisine. Well worth a visit. If you’re tired of the usual taco/quesadilla/burger/grilled fish/grilled steak menus, this gives a reset to your taste buds! It seems they offer cooking classes, but we went just for an evening meal. Excellent dishes and very friendly service. Surprisingly quiet the night we went in, perhaps because it’s out of the busy center of town in a quiet shopping center. A special shout-out to the restaurant managers, Tiffany and Colin, who offered quick and considerate support when dealing with a corrupt security guard (no you don’t need to pay to park in the spacious area behind the mall.)

      Unfortunate dinner experience
Hoping it was just a bad night but probably one of the worst dinners I’ve ever had. The servers were beyond stressed/in a bad mood and I think visibly fighting with the cooks. Took forever to get our apps and then we still hadn’t gotten our drinks. Then we got dinner minus one person in our party. The food was very fair. The drinks were good when we actually got them. The environment was horrible. I just wanted to run away. Would be really hesitant to recommend this place…at all. Can’t begin to figure out how they have so many 5 star reviews.

      A mixed experience
Food: unique and tasty. Ambiance: non-existent (think stark fast food). Service: slow and chaotic. Glad I went to sample flavorful Mayan cuisine, but may not need to repeat the experience.

      Mayan Food Experience
We went to IX Kool as part of a Mayan food tasting experience excursion from Carnival Cruise Line. The staff was very friendly and helped explain the dishes we were eating and how they were a part of the Mayan culture. We each got to make a Mayan salsa with ground up pumpkin seeds as well as guacamole. Then we also got to make corn tortillas and fill them with beans. The rest of the meal was prepared by the staff. We had a lime and chicken soup that was excellent! We also had a bowl of soup with pork and beans. In my humble opinion, the chicken soup was better. Then we received two tortillas with chicken on them. One tortilla was fried and the other was not. Both were good, but I preferred the fried tortilla. There were three choices for dessert: coconut cream (pudding like) which I heard was very sweet, papaya and brown sugar, and corn bread with some shredded cheese and sweetened condensed milk (this is what I chose and thought it was very tasty) the cheese balanced the sweetness of the bread and milk. We also were able to try three drinks. First was water with honey and cinnamon, then a green drink (I don’t know what was in it, but it was good) then a pineapple juice that was very good. Overall, I would recommend this excursion if you’re looking to try something different and taste the local flavors.

      You simply must
Definitely go here. Traditional food elevated to a modern dining experience, I would recommend Ix Kool for early in your vacation at Cozumel as a way to introduce yourself to local flavors in an easily accessible way. The knowledgeable staff can talk you through it, but they also had TV screens on the wall showing short descriptions of the food and examples of how it is made, along with little cultural explainers about the food and its origins. You'll feel more comfortable ordering similar dishes elsewhere after having heard the descriptions at Ix Kool. Get the lima soup, trust me!

      Mayan food and David
David was very informational and friendly in presentation of the Mayan food and culture. Had a blast and stuffed to the max. The experience was good, more about the food with a little bit of preparation of homemade guac, a wonderful pumpkin seed tomatoes paste, ceviche and making homemade tortillas. The rest came prepared for you and explained. Overall glad we came and experienced this.

      Fantastic experience!
The food we made and ate was incredible, and enriched by the passion and knowledge of the people who taught us. We didn't make things from scratch - to do so would take too long - but we learned enough in order to try at home, if we can find the ingredients. And the drinks were so unique! Non alcoholic, fresh and delicious. Come on an empty stomach though, it's so much food! Best we've eaten all trip.

      A great find in Cozumel.
Very unique and I suppose authentic Mayan fare. We ordered several dishes and shared tastes. All different and very good. Modern dining area with old style dishes and friendly service. Try the Chaya Margarita.

Their # 1 rating for Cozumel is a mystery
6 of us ate here and none would return. The food wasn't terrible, it was just not as good as expected, with the # 1 Cozumel rating on tripadvisor. Certainly not our favorite place. The food was meh, the ambiance strange, and the prices high for what we got. Also hard to find! Keep looking for better Cozumel restaurants, they are out there!

My husband and I had dinner here in March of '21 during a dive trip in Cozumel. Tourism has definitely been impacted by Covid, but this delightful jewel, just off the cruise terminal is definitely a can't miss.

First of all, the protocols in place to ensure your safety and the safety of the employees there is above and beyond. You'll be asked to sanitize your hands and have your temperature taken. Then you will be asked to go to a hand washing station and be provided with brown paper envelopes in which to put your mask.
Once you are seated you'll be asked to scan a QR code for your menu and the experience begins.
Do not be afraid to ask questions here because any question you have about the food, the reason, and the history behind it will be answered with enthusiasm.
This restaurant does not currently serve alcohol but that didn't stop us from experiencing the drinks available to us including the drink of the gods, saacab.
We tried all the drinks and all were tasty.

We had the Sikil P'aak, which was a table side dip made from fresh roasted tomatoes, habaneros, garlic, ground pepita seeds, and chives. This dish had a great nutty flavor and unlike anything I'd ever had before. The employees took care to explain all the ingredients and the cultural significance of each.

Our main courses, cochinita pibil panuchos and the pipian pork, were also very delicious.

They offer an experience that allows you to make your own dinner elements the mayan way but the service here is so good, if you don't have enough time, you'll still have a great experience.

I only have the highest praise for this restaurant and this 8-course cooking and dining experience. First, it was a relief to enter Ix Kool from the scorching sun. They gave me plenty of cold things to drink, which was very welcome after my bike ride.

The restaurant was clean, comfortable, cool, and beautifully decorated… the ambience had an upscale flair with a sort of “open kitchen” area where you can watch the restaurant staff make corn tortillas if you want to. There is a stylish TV on the wall looping some brief history about each dish you will make.

Juan especially was phenomenal — he was the “teacher” for my class but he was so much more than that. He was so knowledgeable. I got a great lesson in the history of the food — Learned its origins, how to make it (hands on), and the role it plays in the restaurant staff’s everyday lives as locals :) I learned about some familiar Mexican / TexMex dishes that I never knew originated from ancient Mayan times !!! (Take the class to find out which ones!)

Juan was so kind and attentive and polished — it honestly felt like I was dining at a Michelin star restaurant for $80 USD. … but with the added benefit of learning to use a molcajete and learning to stuff a corn tortilla — I’ve taken Mexican classes to make corn tortillas before, but I never knew you could stuff a corn tortilla this way!

Juan also did not hesitate to credit the other restaurant staff for the great work they do. They really seem like a great team at this restaurant!

This was 100% the highlight of my stay in Cozumel. I am grateful for the knowledge and skills I will take home with with me, after the trip is long over. My last piece of advice is definitely to come hungry for this experience.

Thank you, Juan, and the staff of Ix Kool, for a lovely experience !!

Wonderful dinner! I had the lime soup and scrambled eggs with chaya. My husband had the black beans and pork. Delicious! Manuel, the manager, came out to check on us and shared interesting information about the Mayan cooking and their fresh ingredients. We went during the evening, when the cruise ships were gone, so it was very quiet. I definitely recommend this place. :)

This is an excellent place to have something that is local, regional and different. There are many Mexican Restaurants that serve traditional food. But Ix-Kool is authentic and takes your taste buds back into Mayan history. The flavors of this ancient cuisine still tickles the taste buds today. They have an excellent video to watch as you mill over the menu and gives you a little history of what you are eating. And the best is the manager Alejandro. He makes you feel like a friend, explains the menu very well, and makes excellent suggestion if you prefer. His humor and wit really brings the experience to a crescendo. And to add, very affordable. We had dinner for two, including drinks and a dessert for about $40 US. Well worth the value. This is now my favorite restaurant in Cozumel and plan on coming back next year when I take my family diving again,

This was a wonderful dive into the local cuisine and culture. Paco was wonderful as he told the story of each dish and walked us through how to make them. We tried some dishes we had never even heard of before, and all the food was great quality and tasted amazing! Drinks were paired with each portion of the meal. As pretty big foodies, this was an amazing experience that I had never experienced until my husband suggested it :)

The facilities were clean, well decorated, and the staff was awesome (thanks, Paco!). The communication before to help us find our way was awesome. We had spent the morning at Isla Pasion, and my only suggestion would be to come hungry! I would definitely recommend giving this a try, especially if you enjoy trying new food and have never done anything like it before.

I was so excited to have found this class and it definitely lived up to my expectations. I knew there would be similarities between Mexican food and Mayan food and as I expected, Mayan food...tiene un sabor más de la tierra...exquisite flavors from maíz, frijoles, y pepitas. Every detail from the beautiful presentation and explanations of the food ingredients down to the restaurant emblem was rooted in authentic Mayan culture. Chef Manuel was welcoming, educational, and very generous to share so many different dishes. I’ll always remember this experience and especially will never forget the warm earthy flavor of the maíz in the tortillas and cornbread.

First, let me begin with the hospitality. On time, well prepared, and dressed as a professional class. Second, articulate with all cuisines and demonstrated the ability to cater to beginners and advanced chefs. And, lastly - provided recipes and home made recipes you don’t not see at the location.

As far as the experience, this was in an actual fully operational restaurant, and with a full kitchen. All techniques were demonstrated from the ancient Mayan times and enhanced with machines both from then and today. All staff explained each ingredient: from its location, to its purpose and even the reasoning behind its use.

Overall, Juan was our guide for all the cuisines and relentlessly made sure that all had fun, food and relaxation. Thank you for everything.

I recommend coming hungry! I wasn’t sure if it was a meal or just bites. You do actually get to eat a lot of delicious food. I brought my son along, who is 7. He enjoyed making guacamole and the tortillas. He actually liked learning about all of the ingredients as well. Juan, our instructor, was really great with my son! He was patient and explained what to do very well. However, my son is an extremely picky eater. I was hoping that making some food would inspire a curiosity within him to explore different tastes. Even though he just couldn’t push himself to explore, I hope that this planted a seed in his mind to appreciate ingredients, combine new and different foods, and to one day be brave enough to taste and enjoy those foods. I would do this activity again. Next time I would go with someone who appreciates food more & I would come hungry!

My wife booked this Authentic Mayan Cooking Class as we are both food adventurist and make it a point to learn more about local cuisines and preparation as part of our travel experience. We booked this expecting an advertised about 2 hr 45 min indulgence with preparing traditional Mayan food as part of this dining experience. It was anything but this. Yes, we did get to try several traditional dishes but the only dishes we worked on were: Sikil P'aak' and guacamole appetizers, mush a bit of maze and press two tortillas. One and one-half hours later we were done. For the total cost of almost US$100 plus $27 for two margaritas, we would have been much better off heading back into town for equally good food and a lot of money savings. We came with such high expectations and were sorely let down by this.

This was a real cultural feast as well as a feast to your taste buds. The whole presentation was interactive, everything you are about to taste was also shown on two screens visible from everywhere. The waiters were very attentive and proud of the food they are presenting. You also get to mix and participate too. This was one of the highlights of your trip.
