Delicious food, refreshing drinks and a lovely and talented host
Coty was an exceptional host and her team was so helpful in keeping the class of nine running smoothly! Her approach to teaching made it easy and enjoyable to learn and she was very personable. She kindly and perfectly accommodated me being a vegetarian. My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed our Mexican appetizers and cocktail pairings and we will definitely be making them again in the future! Book it, you won't be disappointed😊

      Excellent Experience
Chef Coty prepared a meal at our Airbnb for my daughter's bachelorette party. Everyone agreed that the food was amazing. Chef explained how to pair the food and the different sauces and the presentation was beautiful. We had 2 people with severe food allergies and she did a great job of making sure the food was safe. I would definitely recommend hiring Chef for a special meal!

      A Wonderful Experience!
A great time learning new recipes and cocktails with a fun and knowledgeable chef! We left 100% satisfied! Chef Coty asked in advance if we wanted to avoid certain foods which was important since I have allergies. She was amazing and we made new friends!

      Great night out
Wonderful experience. The Chef ( Owner of the cooking school) Coti, is delightful. Warm, bubbly and as friendly as can be. Her passion for food and sharing her knowledge is truly inspiring. I can’t wait to get home and start sharing my new recipes and techniques with my friends. She gave us a history lesson about the different types of Mexican cuisine .She definitely should write a book on this subject . Next time we are in the area, I will definitely sign up for her cooking classes. Truly a highlight of our trip.

This was the best experience! We had a great time! Coty is amazing! We did the cocktail and appetizer class and she made it fun and easy even for someone like me that doesn’t cook much. Everything we made was delicious! If you’re looking for something to do while you’re in Playa this is a MUST!! You will not be disappointed. I can’t wait to take her 3-course meal class.

      Fantastic experience!
Chef Coty is amazing! My family of four had a wonderful time at the appetizer and cocktails class. The recipes are unique and creative but not so complicated that you can’t do it at home. We even got printed recipes to take with us! We will definitely be booking another class on our return to Playa del Carmen.

Great class! Delicious and beautiful. Learned so much.
Such a great class! Chef Coty was excellent. The course was organized and so well planned. We made 3 delicious appetizers and the cocktails to pair with the appetizers. Learned some tips to up our entertaining game. The hibiscus cocktail was delicious and a beautiful red. Love anything hibiscus. I was not a great mojito creater with the tips and recipe she shared, can’t wait to make again at home. I thought I knew how to make simple syrup there is a science to it. The kitchen is also so well designed for teaching. There were just two couples but she can accommodate more. Definitely recommend signing up for the class. Tip - taxi should be 200-250 pesos from the hotel zone.

      We Can’t Wait To Return!
This was our second visit to Coty’s fabulous cooking school. In addition to the culinary education and intense hands-on preparation, Coty is charming and makes it all great fun. This time we made delicious seafood, topped off by the best flan I’ve ever tasted! If you love to cook and learn about food culture and techniques, CoCos is the experience you’re looking for!

      Awesome Cooking Class
This was en extremely enjoyable class. Coty and staff are professional, energetic and passionate about providing an authentic food experience. The food was wonderful and the knowledge transfer was thoroughly organic and easy. Learned a lot (the chips were worth the class), ate a lot, and enjoyed it immensely. Would come back in a heartbeat. (Actually a couple of guests were there for their third time). Thanks again.

Good Grades for Co.Cos Drinking School
We had an amazing experience at Co.Cos "Drinking School". Chef Coty is fun, and a fantastic instructor. Her team keeps everything organized. The appies and cocktails menu was delicious. The kitchen is sparkling and fully equipped. We had a great time and look forward to repeating the recipes at home. We'll be back again when we are back in the Playa area, to experience another Co.Cos culinary experience.

      learning laughing and cooking!
We had a lovely 1 course meal with Coty, in which she brilliantly catered for both our normal and vegetarian diet. We had a great time learning loads about Mexican cuisine as we cooked and also thoroughly enjoyed her very interesting tequila/mezcal lesson, including the correct way to drink them with lime and salt (ill never do it the same way again!). Coty has a lovely warm personality, was incredibly knowledgable and lovely to chat to and we got to top it all off with our delicious meals at the end. definitely recommend and will do again if we are ever back in Playa del Carmen!

Amazing time mixing drinks and eating app at Drinking School
My husband, two friends and I did Coty's drinking school last week while visiting Playa del Carmen and had an amazing time! There were about 12 of us in the class and it was fun to meet other people who were traveling. The drinking school is not super serious as far as intense cooking, but we still learned a lot, and especially enjoyed learning the foundation for cooking three different salsas. We got to make three fancy drinks that paired with the appetizers we were making and we didn't leave hungry or thirsty ;) We got to take our recipe booklets home and look forward to recreating the food and drinks back home! Some practical suggestions for guests attending: Take a cab, don't drive, so you can enjoy the drinks! If cabbing from Playa del Carmen try to negotiate to pay about 250 pesos each direction. Coty kindly called a cab to pick us up toward the end of class so we didn't have to worry about scheduling and timing. We got to eat the most on the last dish (quesadillas topped with the different salsa we made), so we didn't leave hungry, but if you're a big eater consider a snack before you arrive since the appetizers are spread out over 3+ hours of cooking and drinking. Highly recommend as a fun activity to do if traveling alone or with family or friends!

We went for the three course meal. The kitchen is very well set up and clean. Very hands on cooking which was great because we really came wanting to learn some good dishes to take home with us. We left very full and very happy. This is not something you sign up for if you just want to sit and watch someone cook for you like many other cooking classes. She provides five burners so everyone can get an opportunity to cook, learn, and be a part of creating and sharing a great meal.

Host is extremely friendly and gives very detailed explanations of what to do, what we're eating, and it is very clear that she loves and understands good food. I would highly recommend this experience to a group of people who want to learn how to cook. Food we made was extremely tasty and we will be making it at home! Lots of opportunity to cook for yourself and the experience lasts a long time so you get very good value for what you pay for.

More than anything else, the host struck us as a very kind person who deserves your business. She is very passionate about her the cooking school she's created. We had a fantastic time. She sat and ate with us and we all laughed and had a great time. For a while you forget you're even in a cooking class and feel like you're cooking a great meal with a friend. Easily a 5 star experience.

Chef Koti is a passionate cook, a fantastic host and an extremely devoted teacher!

We arrived at the venue slightly early and were immediately met with sous-chef Carlos, who invited us in and graciously offered welcome drinks.

The chef came on time, and her positive energy radiated right from the start. We were taught how to make amazing guac and tortilla chips, and we were also shown how to handle fish and shrimp and create a super yummy main course! Koti’s teaching style is friendly and easy-going. She sometimes challenges you with a question, so you get to do some thinking and are thus immediately more immersed in the whole process.

The course was fully hands-on, so we didn’t just stand and watch, we actually got to do all of the things. The environment was so welcoming that it immediately put us at ease.

Despite our lack of cooking skills, she made us feel safe and secure and guided us along the way.

At the end of the course, we got to eat our creations and enjoyed a sip of mezcal and tequila, accompanied by a glass of wine in a romantic setting. What a great way to end the class!

This was by far one of the best experiences of our trip, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the tastes of Mexico, history, stories and cooking hacks.

Dear Tinka and Primosh, Thank you so much for coming and writing this really lovely review… :) It reallly describes my class so well! I really do challenge my students with questions but it’s exactly for that reason: to get you more immersed. So you leave learning not only the recipes, but also about cooking itself! You guys were super friendly and easygoing and you make me want to visit Slovenia if people are as nice as you! Hahaha (I will! Someday) So glad you enjoyed my country and all the best to you both! Saludos Coty

I booked a class on a Monday but there wasn’t enough guests so I opted for a small fee to keep it private. If you are solo I would definitely opt for a private lesson if available as you get more one on one time with Chef Coty. If you have another guest the minimum amount of guests is already met.

Her house is beautiful with a large kitchen to accompany multiple guests. The 3 course meal was absolutely lovely from start to finish and it ended with a lesson and tasting of mezcal and tequila. She also gives you a small personalized recipe book of the meals cooked during her class. As someone who considers myself as a beginner chef, Chef Coty gave me amazing tips and advice for my future in cooking.

Don’t miss out just because you are new to cooking. To anyone seeking a authentic, local and overall amazing experience I would highly recommend Chef Coty. I can’t even think of a single complaint. Oh and did I forget to mention is has an air conditioner? Perfect escape from the heat. I definitely plan on revisiting during any future trips to the Yucatan Peninsula. It has 5 stars for a reason people.

We have a tradition:every time we travel, we try to learn something new. This time, while visiting Mexico, a wonderful country we fell in love with, we chose to have a cooking class. At first, our choice was based on reviews, and all the ones about Coty and Co.cos are great(and she deserves them all), but we must say that this experience went far beyond our expectations.
From the moment you step inside her home and working place, you feel very welcome and the atmosphere is familiar and cozy. Then, you strart travelling through Mexico with the ingredients: its colors, perfumes, spices, peppers...everything stimulates your senses, creativity and...your appetite 😀Coty is more than a great chef, she's a guide; she loves and respects her country and her work:you can feel It in the way she talks, she moves, she treats the raw materials. What we did today was chemistry, magic, ritual, all serving one higher purpose: to discover and henance the Power of each single ingredient. Anton, her son and assistant, made sure everything was always perfectly clean and in order: something very important while working in the kitchen.
Is there anyhing more we can say to recommend this amazing experience?
......oh yes! Take a taxi after the final Tequila and Mezcal tasting. You think you know Tequila? Get ready to finally discover what it is really about.

Dear Dami & Silvia, I got goosebumps reading your review... It's like if you could see inside me! How I feel, how I admire Mexico and it's food... How much I love teaching people passionate about food... Everyone leaves happy from my classes because they learn so much and I think I can transmit my passion in a certain way. But you guys are artists and teachers, so you understood me perfectly! Thank you for taking the time for writing this and making me feel proud of what I do! 😍 Saludos Chef Coty

Another fantastic cooking class with master chef Coty Villarreal! We were able to choose the menu which made the experience extra special. Coty welcomed us with a tall glass of hibiscus water. Our culinary journey began with timbal, a beautiful stacked appetizer of sweet potatoes, avocado, mango and ceviche. It tasted even better than it looked! The main course was a duo of Baja-style tacos, with 2 different sauces. To prepare the tacos we learned how to make tempura that was light and fluffy. It was amazing to watch it off up in the hot oil. Our finale was a flan - but with a twist. This glad tasted like an amaretto cheesecake! It was almost too pretty to cut! Along the way Coty took time out for a short lecture on peppers, explaining the uses and preparation of the most important peppers in Mexican cuisine. The meal was plated and served on Coty's lovely patio. It was another delicious evening! I highly recommend Coty's cooking classes for anyone who is curious about true Mexican cooking; along with the family cooking Coty shares knife techniques and explains when seasonings should be added - and why. I've taken several classes from Coty and I always learn something new. A not-to-be-missed Playa del Carmen experience!

We had an unforgettable experience at Co.Cos Culinary School during our time in Playa Del Carmen! My fiancé and I were impressed with how accommodating Chef Coty was, especially when it came to dietary restrictions. Chef Coty went above and beyond to customize the class to suit our needs and tastes. The course was so well-structured that it easily accommodated our differing skill levels, making it both educational and a whole lot of fun.

What really set this class apart for us was how hands-on it was—this isn't just a cooking demo where you sit and watch. We got to dive right in and really get a feel for the ingredients and techniques. Instruction from Chef Coty herself was educational, both for someone seasoned that reads a lot of cookbooks and for someone who does not. We much preferred the intimacy of this cooking class to cooking classes we've had in the past. (In contrast, Culinary Institute of America's outreach classes which are sadly lacking in feedback and have many more students for a single instructor.)

The food was incredible; we've already recreated the green mole and the tortilla soup at home! Given the intimate setting and Chef Coty's delightful company, the price felt more than reasonable. We've already recommended this gem of an experience to friends and family, and can't wait to go back ourselves!

We had a fantastic time in Coty's beautiful kitchen cooking a wonderful 3 course dinner! We made the best tortilla soup I've ever eaten - just thinking about it makes my mouth water! The entree was chicken in achiote sauce with a colorful Mexican rice, and for dessert we made bananas rompope, teaching us how to flambee like a pro! While waiting for the food to cook Chef Coty gave us a lesson on the different types of peppers, and sprinkled in other cooking tips as we went along. We ate our dinner outside on Coty's lovely verandah. After dessert we learned about mescal and tequila, with tastings of each. The entire evening was highly enjoyable and the food we cooked was delicious! I would recommend this course to almost anyone who likes cooking or wants a unique and fun experience in Playa del Carmen!

We booked for a 3 course cooking experience with Cody. She helpfully contacted us to check allergies etc and give her address. When we arrived a colleague was there to greet us. We joined a group of 6 of us and cooked enchiladas (which we didn’t do a bad job of recreating the following day) Pozoles and Caramelised and flambéed bananas. Cody has such a lovely manner which makes you feel at home and that you are learning without being patronised. You take the recipes away along with an amazing Mexican taste in your mouth - thoroughly recommended

Cotys cooking class was just amazing! Her experience coupled with her passion made it an incredibly immersive, personable, and fun time. Coty goes out of her way to make sure the whole experience is enjoyable and educational - she really is passionate about imparting her knowledge and her experience throughout the class.

This was by far one of the best experiences we had in our Mexico vacation and would highly recommended putting her class in your itinerary! Our group of 8 had a blast and will do it again when we come back!

Gracias Denny and Anvi for choosing this activity as part of your very special “birthday holiday week!” Lovely to have meet all of your group who were very avid cooks… quite impressive!!! And not to mention that I love Indian cuisine so that made it even more interesting for to me to mix Mexican and Indian cooking techniques in our cooking conversations. Hope you all do what you learned at home so you feel a little bit in Mexico 🇲🇽 😊 Saludos from sunny Playa! Happy Holidays! Chef Coty
