- laurie109090 contributionsGreat day at a quiet beachHad a wonderful time at the quaint little beach. Gabriel our taxi driver was in contact with us and was easy to find. Just exit the port past the second gate and you’ll find someone there holding a sign with your name on it. He even arrived early. Mario at Nohoch Kay restaurant and beach club was very attentive. He explained everything and set us down under our reserved palapa and delivered drinks to us. The staff is amazing and they all speak very good English. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious. You can eat in the restaurant or on the beach. When we decided we wanted to leave we just told Mario who had a cap driver there in less than three minutes.Overall, it was an excellent experience and I highly recommend this tour. Bonus, there are several small shops there selling all types of authentic Mexican items, and souvenirs.Written 21 March 2025
- R340BMashleighs0 contributionsGreat kayak tour - poor logisticsThere are 2 parts to this review - logistics and the experience once we got to the lagoon which I would rate very differently. First, we were told to meet at the Native Tours kiosk one hour after our ships arrival. We had a little trouble getting out of the port area in Costa Maya but arrived less than an hour after our ships gangway was down and (along with another group) were told that we were late and our tour had already departed. They were very rude as well. They told us we would have to ride out of the way to drop off a group at the ruins then they’d take us on to Bacalar. We were on the bus about an hour and a half to get there. Finally once we were there we had a fantastic time. They hooked us up with drinks and a wonderful fajita lunch then our kayak guide took us out on the lake. This was our first time and we didn’t realize the lagoon is actually a 40 mile lake! Some of the insta pics we had seen made it appear you can kayak around it but it is much bigger so we kayaked to one area then to the middle and back. Our guide was so knowledgeable and told us a lot about the history of bacalar as well as the science and culture. Once back at the beach area we had a couple more drinks and lounged in chairs and ok the deck. It is super pretty and mostly fresh water - however next time I’d prefer to go by boat and see more of the lake or do the river tour that feeds into the lake. So main advice - be early getting off the ship and get straight to the kiosk. The tour was excellent but wish we had a better experience with logistics.Written 17 March 2025
- NatalieM7880 contributionsBeautiful location, farther away than we thoughtThis was such a beautiful location and we enjoyed the change of pace from the beach. Our fajita lunch was so delicious! Our driver was wonderful and kind, told us lots of stories and helped us stop on the roadside to buy pineapple and mango. One drawback was that it was a lot farther of a drive than we originally thought. It was easily an hour and 20 minutes both ways, which was more time than we wanted to spend in a van with our 6 kids.Written 17 March 2025
- DannyBoy570 contributionsGreat experience, delicious food, and excellent service!Great experience! The included food and drinks were delicious! Mario and his team provided great service, keeping the food and drinks coming. Margaritas and other drinks were served in 20 oz glasses. The beach is sandy and not large, but very private and quiet. Water is very shallow and not good for snorkeling, but there were a variety of small fish to see in just 1-2 feet of water. The only area I would improve is in the instructions on when and how to meet the driver to take you from the port to the beach just 10 minutes away. You will need to walk out through the back of the shops for about 5 minutes to a large stone pyramid. As you are approaching the pyramid, taxi drivers are seen off to the right. Ask for Gabriel. Gabriel, or other drivers there, will help you get a ride. Showing your booking info will be helpful. They will know this beach by Nohoch Kay, not "Beach Break". Highly recommend!! Looking forward to going again!Written 15 March 2025

- lluks700 contributionsPoor customer service and horrible bus! When we arrived to the check-in point we were told that the water was brown at their normal resort so they were taking us somewhere else for the lagoon portion of the adventure. Didn’t think anything of it at the time but I can assure you where they took us was nothing like what was in the photos we saw on their site. While on the bus to the ruins there was dripping water from the top over a bunch of seats. It wasn’t horrible for most except for one teen who had water regularly pouring on him. The tour of the ruins was good, we were all happy with our tour guide Lorenzo. I was disappointed when we were split into groups after that and the people going to the lagoon were going with another guide (I think Jose) instead. Hopped back on the bus for the long journey to the lagoon. Upon arrival it started raining a bit but we all got off the bus and got our first ‘free’ drink. We didn’t even get to start eating our lunch when the skies opened up. It was a downpour and there was VERY limited area of protection. Some guests had use of umbrellas but only a handful of all of us that were there. Not sure what made them so lucky. I was in a smaller group standing like a pack of sardines in the life jacket hut as we watched the pouring rain and lightning. A couple of people went to get food but there was only a few inches of overhang to stand under. There was also a ‘tent’ which turned out to simply be a sun shade as it didn’t provide any protection from the rain. Others were standing in the bathroom and some simply ran back to the bus. Jose and a few other employees were nicely protected under their umbrellas but didn’t do anything to offer to walk customers to the food, bring another drink or better yet, walk them back to the bus. After awhile, with no letup in the rain the entire bus load decided we’d get back on the bus and leave. It was a complete fend for yourself ordeal with a bit of an uphill through the mud and running water in the pouring rain. As my daughter and I were walking towards the bus while covering our heads with life jackets I saw an employee walking toward the food hut holding an open umbrella and about 6 other closed umbrellas on her arm. I asked if we could use those to get to the bus and she looked at me like I had 3 heads. She said, well, I’ll need to get them…OK, then walk to the bus after me with your already open umbrella and get them!!! Without waiting for any further response, I took two from her arm and we walked up to the bus. On the bus ride back many were all covered with our towels as we were cold and wet…oh, and hungry as we didn’t get any food. Even though we didn’t get to take advantage of it, the lagoon area looked like the something from the other side of the tracks. Not a welcoming or resort feel as described. Then it proceeded to be an hour and twenty minute bus ride back. The poor folks sitting under what looked like the TV screens were getting literally soaked with dirty water. It wasn’t a drip it was a full deluge of water for the entire trip. To top it off, towards the end, the bus needed to pull to the side of the road because the door opened and they couldn’t get it shut! That seems super safe!!! Understanding the tour company can’t control the weather, they can certainly control where they take us, the customer service of their staff and the quality of the transportation they provide. I was appalled that one staff member didn’t want to provide us with umbrellas that weren’t being used and others simply stood at the bar with umbrellas for themselves and not once did the guide or the bus driver try to do anything about the water pouring into the bus nor did they ever even comment about it. Lastly, the description of the tour should have better explained how much time would be spent on a bus. It only mentioned the initial 50 minutes to the ruins, not the additional 30+ minutes to the lagoon and most certainly not the hour and twenty minutes back from there. I might have selected my excursion differently as we spent many hours of the day on the bus.Written 6 January 2025
