About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- john85670 contributionsEco Adventures not honestWe visited Eco Adventures and talked to Juan for the bioluminescence tour. Juan was not honest about the tour. He said that we would see both white and blue plankton because he said that he had seen blue plankton the previous night. There was no blue plankton, only white. He also said that we had to go that night because the moon was getting brighter as it was a waxing crescent and the brighter the moon, the less you could see the plankton. This was also a lie because when you get to the lagoon, you go inside a tent over the water where the moonlight is irrelevant. If they're not honest about the bioluminescence tour, they're probably not honest about any other tour. I recommend you avoid Eco Adventures. On a positive note, our driver to/from the lagoon was very nice and helpful.Written 8 November 2024
- deedonut0 contributionsGO TORTUGAS GO!WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! The beach alone was truly magnificent! Our guide was kind and very informative. What I loved about THIS turtle release, is that it is not as commercial as other ones and we each got about 7 babies to release!!! (Other tours that I looked into do not let each person have a bowl of turtles!) I was already forewarned that some of the babies will not successfully make it all the way to the water because of the vigilant seagulls & frigates! But some do, and they are only 2 hours old when you release them - so it is amazing to see them automatically scamper towards the water. Then, we were able to enjoy a splendid sunset on the beach and on the ride back - we enjoyed cervezas and waters!Written 17 October 2024
- madisont7330 contributionsWould book againAbsolutely loved this tour. Unfortunately we were not able to find an English speaking guide and none of us knew more than very basic Spanish. We were able to still enjoy the trip and find dolphins, turtles and whales! What an incredible experience!Written 18 March 2024
- feminnis0 contributionsMagical bioluminescence, average experienceThe bioluminescence was a magnificent sight and it was fun to play in the water at night. The experience included a driver who seemed really impatient to get to the experience, get back in the boat, and drive us all back home. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone else who is sensitive to bright and/or flashing lights. I spent the time when the boat was moving with my eyes closed—the flashlights the boat operators use to navigate and communicate are blinding (pro tip: Sit behind the boat operator so you don’t get blinded!)Written 14 March 2024
- L195IKlauraa0 contributionsBest way to spend a day in OaxacaOur guide Juan Carlos gave us the best day on the coast! We did the Oaxacan coast tour and got to visit an island with crocodiles and feed deer, go snorkeling and see colorful reef fish, and visit various sites along the coast. We also had a cacao and mezcal tasting and he took us to a great beachside restaurant for lunch. Bring bug repellent (there are vendors you can buy it from for around 100 pesos) for the island visit. Also bring some cash for breakfast. We had a nice breakfast on the island near the crocodiles. That was around 400 pesos for two people. Plus they ask you to tip the boat captain who brings you to the island. On the boat there is no shade so also bring a hat. The lunch spot was great for super fresh seafood and took credit cards. I would definitely recommend this tour and Juan Carlos. It was a highlight of our trip.Written 10 March 2024
- colorlady0 contributionsGreat Experience! We we went on two tours with Eco Adventures - releasing baby turtles and Dolphin watching tour - both of which we greatly enjoyed. Efrain and his brother were fantastic at communicating about both tours and showed up on time with smiles on their faces. Very well run and reliable tour agency that I would highly recommend! The Dolphin Watching Tour was particularly memorable - we saw hundreds of dolphins, a whale and some large sea turtles!Written 18 January 2024
- Departure079359804270 contributionsAbsolutely amazingIt was amazing, efrain was an amazing guide and brought us to this small location, where the 3 of us (my girlfriend me and Efrain) took off in our kayaks. The view was nothing like I ever seen before. Beautiful birds everywhere. An other comment said it reminded them of jurassic Park and I can only agree. What an amazing experience, I would recommend it to everyone.Written 17 January 2024
- mmaltby10 contributionsBrilliant tour operatorsEco Adventures are wonderful! Super-responsive on WhatsApp, with superb staff. We went on a dolphin and whale-watching tour with them, and our boat captain was hugely knowledgeable - we were often the only boat with a school of dolphins, which gave us plenty of opportunity to jump in and swim with them in an experience we’ll never forget. We took a tour down the coast with Juan Carlos, who was an excellent guide, and really responsive to what we needed. A really brilliant company working in a really responsible and kind way.Written 17 January 2024
- 914allyl2010 contributionsHighlights of our tripWe had the most amazing experiences in Puerto Escondido, some of them the highlight of our trip thanks to Eco Adventures. During our stay, we did 3 tours with them: Chacahua National Park, Dolphin Tour and Sunset Horse Ride. Pick up was always on time and they communicated well on whatsapp, reminding what to bring to before the tour. Super thankful they managed to squeeze us in for the sunset ride last minute too! Juan Carlos Gama was our guide for two of the three tours, he spoke in fluent English providing good explanations of the wildlife in the park and was super sweet in checking in on us regularly and took some amazing photos & videos for us! For the Chacahua National Park, it was an amazing and surreal experience being amongst the mangroves watching beautiful birds around. After the boat ride, you get a few hours on the beach for lunch & swim. We went near NYE so it was crowded with locals but we had some delicious freshly caught fish for lunch! It ended up being a private tour with just the two of us and we were amazed to see the bioluminescent planktons at night under the starry night. You can swim there at night but we didn’t end up going in. It is a long day given it’s a 1.5 hour drive away but worth it in my opinion! The Dolphin tour with Captain Ezy was one of our trip highlights. We saw hundreds of dolphins, a string ray, a water snake and even caught sight of a humpback whale! Bring sunscreen and a dry bag! It can get quite choppy out there and when we catch sight of wildlife, we accelerate towards to it to get a closer view so you can imagine it can be a bit bumpy but it’s all good fun! The sunset horse ride was very scenic, the route winding through farms, crossing rivers and ending on the beach for sunset. The horses do seem well trained but there were a few instances of a few misbehaving (sitting down or starting to gallop). The guides were good at rushing to help however not all speak English. We have been horse riding before so we knew how to control the horse for the most part, if you are afraid or tentative about horses then perhaps this is not the best for you to start with. You get the chance to try galloping on the beach which was an amazing experience! The ride back after sunset was quite dark but horses have great night vision and know where they are going. You can bring a head torchlight but make sure you bring insect repellant and spray ALL over - the mosquitos come out after sunset and they are vicious! We had the best memorable experiences in Puerto Escondido thanks to Eco Adventures and Juan Carlos. The whole booking process, logistics and tours were the easiest and most stress-free of all the tours we did in Mexico.Written 3 January 2024
- Q8385ZNjessf0 contributionsFirst time releasing turtles was amazingThis was an incredible experience with an excellent tour guide. We were picked up and dropped of from outside of our hostel and received ice cold beer and water on the drive there and back. Would highly recommend this tour. Excellent value.Written 14 September 2023
- Nathalia_MMachado0 contributionsTHEY CANCELLED MY TOUR AND DO NOT GIVE MY MONEY BACK. IT´S A TRAP!They cancelled my tour on the same day, because there wasn't enough people. Unfortunately I had already paid for my tour, and they told me they would do the reimbursement immediately. It´s been almost 1 month since it happened and I haven´t received it so far. I try to communicate with the daily, and they only keep saying that I had to wait for 15 business days (which already happened), and NO REIMBURSEMENT, so far. I do not recommend this agency.Written 28 August 2023
- B2431TZjonathanp0 contributionsEco Adventures is goodWe did two excursion with Eco Adventures and both were great. The bioluminescent lagoon (Laguna Manialtepec) one night and the dolphin watching the next morning. this outfit is well-organized. The rides picked us up on time. Handoffs between the driver and boat captains were smooth. Everyone was friendly and informative. Nothing felt rushed or harried. For the bioluminescent lagoon, forget about the open lagoon and head for the floating tents. It's much darker in there and you can see about twice as much glowing. Try to avoid brighter nights (clear, full moon)--the darker the better. For the dolphins, we saw probably a hundred. We also saw two sea turtles getting it on, which was hot. for me, the boat ride and the Puerto Escondido skyline from the ocean was cooler than the dolphin viewing itself, but I've done several dolphin things in the past. Highly recommend either or both of these excursions.Written 9 August 2023
- Carl B0 contributionsMoney over conservation. Stay away! How do people not see that this is a a business and not conservation? If they truly cared about the preservation of these turtles they would not allow Instagram happy strangers to participate. Instead, professional handlers would release them whilst those truly interested in the process could donate. Additionally, the time of day they release them is not conducive to a release program. Sunset is for happy snaps and not for their chance of survival. The vast majority dont make it to the water. It's as if, once you pay, you own the turtle. Disgusting in every way. If you care about tutle, donate to a real conservation group and stay away from this proftering ritual!Written 30 April 2023
- sfaccin0 contributionsGood experience, but too much focused on the "picture moment"Excellent service from the driver/guide. The introduction and explanation at the site was a bit sterile and short, they should invest more on the teaching part. Overall, a good experience but the cultural/knowledge part of it is lacking.Written 27 April 2023
- 829meghani0 contributionsGreat evening activityWe had a great experience! The hotel pick up and drop off made the experience accessible. Our driver Mario was friendly and provided bottled water for us. The beach where we released the turtles was quiet and we released them during sunset. The conservation volunteers spoke both English and Spanish and were knowledgeable about the different species and ensured the turtle safety throughout the release.Written 21 April 2023

I was looking for a way to experience the natural beauty of Puerto Esondido as a relatively new birdwatcher. Our driver and guide, Ephraim, along with his boatman Edmondo, were both kind, knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile to show us wildlife. Ephraim spoke very good English and has lived in this area his whole life and was very familiar with the birds. He provided my hubs and me each with a pair of great binoculars, as well as a bird book and quick reference sheet to help us understand what we were seeing. The lagoon was alive with life as the sun went down, the freshwater river, the surrounding farmlands, mountains and coastal area made this trip an excellent one to see all facets of natural beauty. We'll definitely try the sunrise tour next time and highly recommend this quiet and informative way to spend your time in Puerto.

We thoroughly enjoyed our morning birding tour at Manialtepec. Our guide and driver, Efraim, picked us up at our hotel at 6:45 am and drove us to the lagoon (about 20 minutes from PE), where we met up with our captain, Javier, and were supplied with excellent binoculars. We got a bit of a late start, but spent about 2 /12 hours in the boat, then stopped on a beach for a rest (and bathroom break) and a snack cooked to order by Senora Juanita (bring some pesos). Javier knows all the ins and outs of the lagoon and where all the different birds hang out -- we spotted over 50 species: two kinds of storks, lots of herons (including tiger herons), roseate spoonbills, two kinds of ibis, chacalacas, jacanas, parrots...Some of us on the tour were experiences birders and others not, but we all enjoyed being out on the lagoon and seeing wildlife (and cows and horses and mules!). The sun begins to get strong by 9am so wear long sleeves and pants and a hat and plenty of sunblock. It said to bring our swimsuits and towels, but we didn't swim. Water was provided. Totally recommend!

I visited Puerto Escondido for 7 days and tried multiple tours with Eco Adventures - Bioluminescence, Dolphin Watching, Surfing, Baby Sea Turtle Release, Bird-watching and the Ventanilla Eco Tour.
Among the tours, bird watching feels peaceful and sweet. I did the sunset tour, got pick up around 4pm, then headed to a lake that has crocodiles and a lot of birds. The whole boat stays quiet, so we don't scare the animals away. I saw some really beautiful pink birds flying across the sky a couple of times. And I saw many birds resting on top of the trees when we pass by. The whole tour lasts a few hours and the entire experience is really great.

my husband and I really enjoyed our experience and first bird tour with Eco Adventures! The day does start early (6am!) so be ready to rise before the sun does! But so worth it, since we visited during the slower tourist season we had the boat all to ourselves and enjoyed a private tour of the lagoon and home to so many different species of birds. The lagoon is gorgeous and even more beautiful since you're catching it during sunrise. Bring your camera!
