Took this tour approximately 2 weeks ago. The ride up to San Sebastian was very pleasant, & visiting the tequila place was interesting.
I found walking around San Sebastian to be quite boring. The roads are old cobblestones, & very narrow. There isn't much to see as far as I'm concerned.
Lunch was in a restaurant there, but I hardly ate anything. Social distancing at our
table was non-existent, which rubbed me the wrong way.
Shortly after lunch, we visited what our guide called a "bakery". He knew the owner.
I will share this, & I'm telling the honest truth...it was a FILTHY place. If this was operating here in Canada, it would be shut down. Don't go there.
I will not recommend this excursion to anyone. Again, it is boring in my opinion.
"Gus" the tour guide was wonderful, friendly, & very knowledgable.

Hector "the PROTECTOR" and Raul "NASCAR King" from Grey Lines were fantastic. Their attention to details to ensure our trip was safe and fun was exceptional, and they went out of their way to provide a tour experience that was over the top. We couldn't ask for a better team to share our day with. Highly recommend both for your trip to San Sebastian.

While on the small side of the scale, the fanily owned coffee plantation and the tequila factory were both excellent. The authentic Mexican lunch was delicious. San Sebastian itself is truly a hidden treasure. Much of the old architecture from the early 1800s remains, with the town church and plaza being the center piece of the charming village.

Great day trip from Vallarta. Nice stops along the way at a tequila distillery and a coffee producer. San Sebastian was a step back in time. Oscar is a super guide!

Our tour guide Cesar and driver Carlos were excellent. Cesar is very knowledgeable of the history and area. The tour consisted of a 1.5 hour drive up the mountain, and 4 hrs sightseeing, tasting, eating and shopping, then 1.5 hours drive back. Cesar offered flexibility in the timing of our activities which was great, and shared the history of San Sebastián. Lunch was delicious and very authentic. A fabulous day trip that left us yearning for more.

We had a great day with Mario on the tour. It's a beautiful drive up into the mountains, and Mario is an expert on Mexican history so it was very informative. The taco stop and tequila tasting were both fun, and lunch in San Sebastian was delicious. It was the last day of the festival of San Sebastian, so the little town was full and there were fantastic mariachi bands playing in a contest. We also saw some of the rodeo participants and there were stands and stalls all around the town. We saw a few of the local buildings and the jail, too. If the festival wasn't happening, I would guess that the little town would have been pretty dead and not as lively.
Just be aware that you don't get to see or tour the mine. San Sebastian is an old silver mining town, but you only spend about 1.5 - 2 hours there, including lunch. That's fine, but my husband was excited about at least seeing the mine and it's not on the tour.
The tour is worth it just for the drive into the mountains and the food.

I decided to take a tour to the oldest town in this area of Mexico, Jalisco. I decided on Gray Line, and I am ever so happy that I did. The van picked me up at my hotel, right on time. There were only 6 of us going on that tour that day, so it was more personal. Our guide, Mario, told us we would drive about one and a half hours to get to San Sebastián, but we would make 3 stops before we reached the town. Mario talked to us about the area, the history of Mexico, the history of the ancestors of the Mexican people: in short, we received a very informative and interesting lesson on the area. Mario told us he was also a teacher, so I assume that some of his knowledge comes from books, but his passion for what he was teaching comes from his heart. We visited a tequila factory, a coffee farm, and a store where the lady made fresh tortillas that we could buy and make tacos, for about $1 US per taco. She took a ball of fresh masa, flattened it into a tortilla and baked it on top of a wood-fired grill. Then the customer put his own toppings on it: cheese, guacamole, beans, salsa. The tacos were delicious. I had to eat 2, and I rarely eat tacos. We had lunch at a restaurant in San Sebastián, a very good meal with chicken mole, shredded beef for tacos, cheese quesadilla, fresh fruit juice, rice and beans. Then Mario took us on a walk through the town, explaining everything as we went along. At the end of the day, I was very happy that I had taken the tour, for I learned many interesting things, and to have the opportunity to shift back in time to a less hectic world was priceless. Thank you, Gray Line and Mario, for a marvelous experience.
