No trip to Jasper is complete without a visit to the famed Columbia Icefield, the largest ice field in the Canadian Rockies. Jaw-dropping views of towering mountains, rocks, ice and pure white snow as far as the eye can see. From the Discovery Centre, you will board a specialized Ice Explorer that will take you down a frozen roadway to the Athabasca Glacier. Along the way, your driver will provide commentary about glaciers, their impact upon the local ecosystem, and the environmental changes rapidly transforming these massive scenic wonders. Once you reach the Athabasca Glacier, you will have the opportunity to hop out, walk along the glacier and even fill up your water bottle with pure, pristine snowmelt. Once the tour is complete, you will head over to the Glacier Skywalk, where you will walk along the glass bottom walkway out over the cliff's edge. After stopping to appreciate the incredible view and capture a few photographs, it's back to the Discovery Center.

Can do way better than current scenario.
The adventure is quite hiped and overvalued. The views that you get from skywalk, you basically can get from anywhere on the way from jasper to athabasca glaciers. There are no clear instructions in the booking email that parking is 6 kms away from the actual adventure. People are using google maps and all the enter is skywalk. There is no reception in the way to understand tha map further. We had 7-9 cars up with us at the skywalk that were making a Uturn to get to the centre. Clear instructions in booking email might help. Being an Explorer, this should be worth $60-$70 for both. I have done around 30 adventures in respect to hiking and this was i would say quite overly priced for a view that you can get from anywhere. You just take them near to the actual view, which should be worth a little less than it is priced at. And this was an opinion of almost half the bus that I traveled with. I talked to them and they said we would recommend everyone to go icefield parkway but don't take the adventures. Just a small recommendation from a traveler. Staff was great.

      Breathtaking views
Riding in the 6 wheel drive vehicle that took us to the Columbia Icefields was an added experience before actually walking on the Glacier. Sam was our driver/guide and was a wealth of knowledge about the glacier and the area around it. A magnificent sunny day with little wind made your visit even better.

      Worth the Drive!
Made the drive to the Icefield from Banff and it was totally worth it. The drive itself was just under two hours but the views were breathtaking with lots if places to stop along the way. The tour was very family friendly and informative. We also went to the skywalk and enjoyed it. Our kids loved all of it and all of the transportation and locations were planned seamlessly. Our tour guide Liam was awesome too- really helpful and made it fun.

      Highly recommend
Brought my family (wife and children 16 and 12) to see the glaciers. It was a truly unique experience. We also enjoyed the sky walk. I was impressed with the knowledgeable staff. It is a bit of a drive from Banff but the scenery on the Icefields parkway was amazing with plenty of scenic stops along the way. We traveled toward Jasper to visit Athabasca falls and Sunwapta falls. Overall a great day with the glaciers being the main attraction!

      Great experience
Great experience, highly recommended. Our Ice Explorer guide was Jackson and he was really excellent. Of course he has a lot of experience navigating cold, windswept, inhospitable environments - seeing as how he is from Blackpool. I wish the gift shop had more Canadian products.

This tour company is a bunch of cheats who tend to overbook and disappoint a few.
We had a booking on 25th August 2021 for a group of 11 adults and 1 kid (technically 4 kids as 6 year old kids are categorized as adults on booking here) at 4:15 PM slot for both Ice Explorer Glacier tour and the Skywalk. we arrived on time and were behind a long queue of all 4:15 PM pre-booked passengers. when we arrived at the bus boarding point, our group was asked to board the 4:30 PM as they apparently did not had seats in 4:15 PM bus, The 4:15 PM bus was still in front of us, but We were all directed to sit in 4:30 PM bus. after sitting here for about 5 mins, the tour operator came in and asked to vacate the bus to fit in other passengers, At this point, We had an impression that they would fit in another bus, but to our disappointment, we were informed on de-boarding that there is no way they can give us both the ice explorer and skywalk on same day.
This was after the fact that we had travelled 3 hours one way from Canmore to Jasper only to do this event along with 4 kids. this was only bright sunshine day of the week that we had chosen for this event. All the efforts and dreams shattered in a moment. After much negotiation. the supervisor offered us to do a rechedule or complete refund and free skywalk, but that left us with a huge disappointment and unfulfilled trip desire, We came with proper booking on a given day at right time with intent to do this activity, and our desire was not to get refund OR waste our travel time on another day by rescheduling due to their fault. Never trust the Pursuit or Columbia icefield glacier adventure company. they are money minded and will lead to beyond disgusting experience for some because of their over booking and insensitive handling.
Overall we lost 1 out of our 6 day trip to Banff/Jasper and we have this bad experience etched for ever.

Dear Atulverma7 Thank you so much for your review. I completely understand how disappointing it would have been to have driven such a long way and not be able to take your scheduled tour. I was able to connect with the team to understand a bit about what happened and unfortunately because your family was late for your boarding time and it was the end of the day, we weren’t able to accommodate a trip out to the glacier. We did our best to help by refunding your tickets and providing complimentary tickets to the Skywalk but I understand that this was still disappointing. I did want to clarify that children aged 6-15 are not considered adults and we have children’s pricing available for them, we also allow them to go free on our earlier tours midweek. I know that wasn’t the source of your disappointment, but I thought it may be helpful to know. If there is anything more we can do for you, please email jbrennan@pursuitcollection.com and we’d be happy to help. Sincerely, Jon Brennan Guest Experience Manager Columbia Icefield

If you are staying at the lodge or just visiting and would like to experience the amazing Athabasca glacier then this is worth booking even though it is quite expensive.

The skywalk was not as impressive and we felt we could have skipped this altogether. The tour guide & bus driver were both fantastic, knowledgeable and did his best to keep the group entertained.

The Glacier adventure next morning was poorly organised, wait times to board the bus and the tour guide (Taylor) was silent for majority of the experience & did not even introduce herself to the group. The bus drivers (Jeff & Kevin) were again really knowledgeable and did their best to entertain the group. The ride in the Ice Explorer was pretty dull/slow/boring and it is more just a means to get to the glacier where you
Are able to spend time walking around at your leisure until hoards of tourists in additional Ice Explorers get there at which point we just wanted to leave as it took away from the serenity of being on the Glacier.

Overall I enjoyed the experience on the glacier.

What an awesome experience we can only enjoy for a few more decades. Took bus trip to the icefield before boarding one of their special vehicles. Had 30 minutes on the ice and on the way back did the sky walk. Although we had tickets for it, we skipped it as it was cold, pouring with rain with large queues (in the rain) for the bus back. Lucky for us, whilst on the ice field, the sun came up. Staff are incredibly funny and was impressed with our main driver, Evan, who helped unsteady people back to the vehicle safely. Lots of knowledge, lots of jokes! It is incredible to think that in 25-40 years it will be gone.

After living in Alberta 16 years, I decided to make an effort to go and check out this spectacular experience with my 2 small children and Mother who had been visiting for a vacation.
After the bus left the main ice fields center our tour guide started to explain a little about the ice fields amping up the experience, 5 minutes later we were transferred onto the Glacier Tour Bus.
As the bus headed towards the ice field we met another tour guide name “Haus” who also described what we were about to experience.
On the way back towards where we first loaded the Ice Bus “ Mr. Haus” decided to crack jokes and degrade FT. MCMURRAY as being a huge contributor to the repaid deterioration of the ice fields.
Unaware of his audience I became super insulted of his jokes as they continued regarding a town in which I, along with many others in Alberta have made great livings from that us take the time and money to come visit with our families a site that employs this “Dude”.
I strongly believe that “Haus” should be sent back to his country to look for work and allow an Albertan a chance to earn a living in his position who probably would think twice about running down such a place that supports so many beautiful things in Alberta

    Just my thoughts,

We recently visited the Colombia Icefields during our travel from Banff to Jasper. This tour was mainly as a way of breaking up the journey but quickly became one of the highlights of our holiday.

We were taken to the icefields welcome centre and served some delicious food before being driven up to the beginning of the glacier where we decanted into our off-road vehicles which was expertly driven by Abbey. Abbey was a fantastic enthusiastic guide who clearly loves her job, and this shines through in the way she made the trip fun whilst sharing great knowledge of the icefields and glaciers across North America on route, we found it very interesting and informative. When we arrived at the glacier Abbey offered to take photos of all the guests beside our truck, as well as against one of the most amazing backdrops you could ever hope to see, she then offered to take more photos whilst we were there, and travelling as a couple getting photos together is very much a welcome offer and much appreciated.

A particular highlight was having a refreshing, crisp, cold drink of glacial water direct from the source. I'd fully recommend taking a water bottle to fill up as this is encouraged by the guides.

Overall, this tour was a once in a lifetime, full of memories and not to be missed by anyone who has the opportunity to visit.

The glacier visit and skywalk were excellent. Staff polite and helpful. However, the centre itself is not good. We visited early season and it was still very busy. Queues at Starbucks were v lengthy and only served drinks. The restaurant was limited with very slow service Everything was overpriced

not worth the time. it takes a whole hour to get to the glacier, then you have 15 minutes on the glacier which is filled with tourists, and then an hour to get off the glacier. then they take you to the sky walk which makes the trip even longer. better to view the glaciers from hikes. i feel the ice explorers damage the glacier and they are not good for the environment. i hope they stop this tour some day and just stick to the skywalk which was pretty good, but you can see the views right from the road, not necessary to go on the skywalk. also, don't buy the combination ticket because it is nonrefundable (but you can change the day and time). the separate tickets can be cancelled within 48 hours.

Dear sarahm376, Thank you for taking the time to write a review - we appreciate the feedback. We are so glad that enjoyed your time at the Skywalk, however, we are sorry that your experience on the glacier wasn't as positive. We work closely with Parks Canada to ensure our tours have minimal impact on the glacier's surface and surrounding environment. The transportation from the Discovery Centre to the glacier is typically around 25 minutes, including the transferring from the coach bus to the ice explorer. We also aim for guests to have 20-30 minutes on the glacier before heading to the Skywalk - which should take around 30 minutes. We additionally provide guided tours throughout the entirety of your time on our busses. We apologize if there were delays, if you would like to contact me with any details of what happened, please email me at jbrennan@pursuitcollection.com. We hope that you were able to enjoy the rest of your time in the Rockies. Sincerely, Jon Brennan Guest Experience Manager Columbia Icefield

The icefeild is a an awesome place to take pictures and even have a little taste of the water.

Ben was such an mazing tour guide/driver for the ice field adventure. He made the trip so much more fun with making jokes and giving information about the mountains and glacier.

After that, we went to skywalk wich was awesome. People can walk and take pictures on the glass bridge. If u are afraid of heights, I wouldn't recommend the skywalk. But for me, it was and amazing experience overall. Thanks to Ben and all the staff for giving us and amazing experience.Great effort guys!!!!!

My family and I visited in early September and felt this experience left a lot to be desired. The staff shuttle guests around the facility, but unfortunately we had to wait excessively long periods to get around. This made our experience really bad. We had to wait for a bus for 45 mins. Staff told us the bus would arrive every 15 min, another staff member said every 20min and yet another staff member said every 30min. As a result of standing in the sun waiting for 45 min we got terribly sunburnt.

It was going alright until our guide started toeing the company line and explaining how everything to do with the tour was motivated by a desire to foster positive ecological change. At every stop, vehicles idled empty while waiting for passengers, buses shuttled people even when not full to capacity, no vehicles are electric, yet “wow, the ice explorers are amazing, they pollute less than before so we are having a positive impact!” (Wtf?)

Once on the glacier, you are corralled into what is essentially a large parking lot and encouraged to take photos in the tiny zone that is cordoned off.

Really the only positive part of the experience was commentary from our guide/ice explorer driver Alyssa.

I’d like to say that the score in no way reflects the quality of the staff involved in the icefields adventure.

Our team works hard to keep guests moving but this can be challenging for us because everyone needs time to take photos and enjoy the views. On the environmental side of things, the buses do continue to run throughout the day, but there are measures that have been taken over the years to monitor and mitigate the amount of pollutants released into the atmosphere. With our program to refurbish our Ice Explorers, we have been able to reduce our fleet's emissions by 40%! We are also making this an educational experience to increase awareness; the glacier is melting at an extreme rate no matter what we do out there, so we want to show as many people as possible what we're facing. Unfortunately, stopping and starting the buses every time they idle also increases the overall pollutants released. Due to COVID we are down 8 seats per bus, but even with those numbers we track our seat utilization to ensure the most efficient usage of our buses. We hope you come to visit us in the future. Sincerely, Jon Brennan Guest Experience Manager Columbia Icefield
