Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Pass By: Bow Valley Parkway, Banff, Banff National Park, Alberta Canada

Travel through breathtaking scenery and nature on your way to the trailhead and learn about the history and geology of Johnston Canyon.

Stop At: Johnston Canyon, Banff National Park, Alberta Canada

Light your way through this narrow, water-formed canyon as your small group follows your guide to the Canyon’s lower falls. The suspended catwalks, built into the limestone walls, make this an easy trip for everyone. Along the way, your guide will highlight unique features by powerful flashlight and pause for moments of darkness and quiet to foster an appreciation for spending time in the canyon at night.

At the turn around point, your guide will illuminate the expanding ice that encases the rushing water and escort you through a natural tunnel onto the viewing platform, beside the cascading Lower Falls themselves. Warm up with hot chocolate and maple cookies while you look around the Lower Falls, the turnaround point.

The return journey is your opportunity to travel without your headlamp (should you wish!). You’ll be amazed as to how quickly your eyes adjust to the darkness, enough for you to travel through the pine forest guided only by the ambient light of the moon and the stars above your head.

What to expect:
• Walking Time: 1 - 1.5 hours
• Return Distance: 1.4 miles (2.2 kilometers)
• Elevation Gain: 213 feet (65 meters)

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

This tour of the canyon in the evening was made so much better by the guide Nick. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, funny and approachable. Because it was still light Nick and his colleague had made the decision to walk us further into the canyon so that we could see

Hi Ross, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on the Johnston Canyon Evening Icewalk with Nick. The last few days of this tour do become a bit more of a 'twilight' walk rather than a night-time walk and we're glad to hear that you enjoyed the tour tweaks made by Nick to adjust to this. And great news on the bald eagle sighting! We look forward to seeing you back in Banff on your next visit.

Our evening began by being picked up on time at the fairmont hotel. Edmond, “Eddie”, an Irish lad with a lilt that would have the women swooning if he was not such an ardent professional. We were very lucky and had just one other couple along. Eddie was incredibly knowledgeable

The evening icewalk was absolutely incredible. I was not prepared for the beautiful scenery! Because it was still light out when the tour started our tour guide Ed made a few stops along the way to show some of the beautiful lookouts along the way to the Canyon. Ed was amazing!

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share such a heartfelt review of the Johnston Canyon Evening Icewalk with Ed. We agree, one of the benefits of doing this tour in April is that you do get to enjoy the scenery along the Bow Valley Parkway on the way! We believe that a guide's personality (and knowledge, of course) make such a difference to the experience and so we're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed Ed's company as much as we do. We'll be sure to pass on your kind words, and we hope to see you back again in Banff.

Our excursion was unique. Not only were the lower falls gorgeous, but we walked back on ice through the canyon after dark. It took a while for our eyes to adjust, but the experience was very memorable. Our guide, Raven was very knowledgeable and gave us hot chocolate and

Hi Blair, Thank you for sharing how much you enjoyed the Johnston Canyon Evening Icewalk with Raven. We couldn't agree more, the falls are beautiful during the day but it feels even more special to be there after dark with no-one else around and be able to walk through without any lights. We're so glad you loved the experience as much as we do, and we hope to see you back again soon.

I'm not a night person and when the time came to meet for this outing I had regrets that I signed up for it. Afterwards I'm so glad I went on it! We were able to do a good portion of the walk without any artificial lights which made all the difference to me. It was a

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on the Johnston Canyon Evening Icewalk with Denise. For someone who isn't a night person, we're thrilled with how much you enjoyed the tour! It's incredible how magical it is in the canyon after dark, under the stars, and it's hard to quite put it into words! We're so glad you enjoyed learning about the night sky and that it inspired you to learn more (Denise is such a fountain of knowledge), and we hope to see you back again.
