What to expect
  • This journey takes us through 45 kilometers of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in the Canadian Rockies. The Maligne Valley is home to a wide range of flora and fauna, and it has geological features unique in the world. Our journey takes us searching for abundant wildlife while explaining the history and natural wonders to be explored. A 30-minute stop at Maligne Canyon allows us time to explore the two bridges, offering fantastic views of the cascading waterfall and continuing erosion of the ancient limestone. As we continue into the Valley, we climb into the sub-alpine forests and view the expanding ranges of limestone rising out or Medicine Lake. A stop is made to photograph this natural wonder, and your guide traces its history with you. From Medicine Lake, we continue up through a forest that is prime habitat for moose and bears. Sightings are common but not guaranteed as we are trying to view these animals in their natural habitat. At world-famous Maligne Lake, you are led on a 3 to 4-km interpretive nature walk. You take in beautiful lakeshore vistas before following the easy-grade trail loop back into the forested surrounds.

Aug 2020
This was a great day. The tour guide was Ross. Ross explained things as we went along. He is very informative. I choose to do the hike at Moose lake which was very good. Maligne Adventures offers hotel pick up and a central meeting point. Due to COVID masks must be worn on the bus. First we went to Maligne Canyon and then drove to Maligne lake. At the lake some people did the boat tour and I did the hike. My suggestion is to bring a lunch. This was an informative and fun day.

Jasper wildlife tour and boat cruise July 9 , 2020
Jul 2020 • Family
Went on the wildlife tour and boat cruise today. Right from the start it was a pleasant experience. They picked us up right from my hotel in a comfortable bus. Several safety measures were taking due to covid , to make your adventure safe all the way through the tour. I can’t say enough about our main tour guide Kelly , she was great. Kelly was very well informed of the ecology of the area and has an extensive knowledge of the park and wildlife. I was truly learning something and entertained every moment of the tour. There was sufficient stops and breaks along the way. The sights were breathtaking and I was lucky to see some amazing wildlife. The bear and wapati deer and fawns nursing was quite a site. The guide and captain on the boat were also well informed and great as well. I was on the new boat in the fleet, it was amazing and a smooth comfortable voyage. (If you are sensitive to sea sickness , not to worry). If you are looking for a fun informative adventure. I rate this tour 5 stars. Thanks for the wonderful experience. I’ll be back next time I’m in Jasper.

Very good tour with maligne adventures
Oct 2019 • Solo
Ross is very friendly and informative. I also was part of his evening wildlife tour. On h Th he way out to the lake we stopped in a meadow alongside the road to see a bull moose. The three of us did the hike on a cool am where it was about -10 Celsius with hot chocolate and many layers. We stopped to see if we could find grizzlies, but didn’t. Afterwards we had free time to eat and take photos before heading to maligne canyon. Before departing the parking lot we saw a moose family in the trees grazing. Very good tour overall to take while in Jasper.

Good tour, but disappointed we did not see any wildlife.
Sep 2019
Our tour guide & driver John was informative, knowledgeable and humorous. Unfortunately we didn't see any wildlife the entire time. Of course there are no guarantees, and it was an on-again-off-again rainy kind of day. But John had plenty of stories from the tours he led that did see wildlife, and pointed out areas they had been seen before. We purchased this tour in advance, which included the hike, but because of a knee injury, I couldn't do it, so we took the Maligne Lake boat ride to Spirit Island instead, by paying extra at the location. Lots of beautiful scenery on the boat ride and at our last stop of Maligne Canyon. It was a pleasant way to spend about 5 hours, that included time for lunch (brought or bought on our own). It was a good, but not great, tour.

Hello Great to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Maligne Adventures (for the most part). Unfortunately the wildlife component is always dependent on where and when the critters choose to show themselves. Maligne Lake and at the boat cruise are truly a highlight of any visit to this area. Regards

Lots of wildlife & great day despite the rain
Jul 2019 • Friends
Despite the rain, our tour guide John gave us a great tour and shared some interesting history of the area. It is mostly from a bus and then there are two opportunities for about a 30 min hike or do the boat ride. We saw moose, deer, mountain goats, bald eagles and more on our trip. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Wildlife & Waterfalls Tour
May 2019 • Couples
Did the tour mid-May & there were only 4 of us with a driver & a guide & it was a very pleasant few hours as we drove around the area, stopping at certain spots & then going for a walk.

The driver was great - very knowledgeable & a good wildlife photographer as well. The guide was ok - liked to talk about himself a bit & waffled to fill in time.

The tour was ok although I think a but expensive for what it was - might have been a different view if we had seen a lot of animals or if Maligne Lake wasn't frozen. The places we visited were all on the known tourist list and easy to drive to.

The value of the driver/guide is to pick out the wildlife or to explain things to us. We visited the rafting at Athabasca River, came across a lot of cars photographing a bear cub up a tree, then off to Medicine Lake, came across mule & white tail deer on the roadside as well as some sheep, to the frozen Maligne Lake, a stop in a small park to see some ground & red squirels, then back for morning tea at Maligne Canyon before a walk around the canyon.

A couple of value adds - eagles nest in a far away tree, an area where moose might be and information on the area, the lakes as well as some information on woodpeckers (show some nests in trees) & ravens (showed a nest).

Dropped back in town on time. Easy access to the tour office with a large free car park across the road. For us a good nut not great tour, especially considering the cost.

Hello Peter We are sorry to hear that your Wildlife Search wasn't quite what you expected in mid-May. Our guides are usually very successful in locating flora and fauna for our guests to observe and photograph, however due to the 'wild' nature of the tour, nothing is guaranteed. Our cold spring made the early season a little more difficult for abundant viewings, with bears still hibernating etc. And of course we have no control over the ice out on Maligne Lake, traditionally this can occur anywhere from mid-May to mid-June, all part and parcel of the unpredictable nature of spring in the mountains! We would be happy to take you out on a complimentary basis on a future visit to Jasper and hope for better results. Regards

It's nice, but not very special
Jun 2019 • Couples
Maligne Tours is a very nice company. And we loved the spirit of our guide. However: the only thing they do is drive up to Maligne Lake on the Maligne Road. It is something you can do yourself too. (The only good thing was the spots the guide knew there would be an nest coyotes, a bald eagles nest and a nest of an osprey).

Hello Thank you for taking the time to review your recent outing with Maligne Adventures, it is great that our guide was able to locate animals for you to observe. It is difficult to drive yourself and keep an eye out for wildlife at the same time, it really helps to have someone who knows where to look. Regards

Great day (despite the weather)
We did this tour with Ross, and the whole day went smoothly (other than the hail storm during the hike!). We saw coyote, big horn sheep, bald eagle and chicks, mule deer, osprey, and lots of chipmunk and squirrel - this is on top of the beautiful views of the lakes and waterfalls.
Ross was great with our children (8 and 10) and having a professional photographer as our guide meant we got pointed in the direction of the best spots throughout the day.
I would definitely recommend this trip, and would happily do it again if we return to Jasper.
