About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- P833JEanaz0 contributionsFinal tour of the seasonIt was the last tour for this year and we still saw humpback whales! Robin our guide was great, providing us with much information and giving us lots of time to observe the beautiful animals by keeping a respectful distance. I like that they are also involved in offsetting their footprint by preserving old growth forest.Written 30 October 2024
- Sue T0 contributionsExcellent Day TourWe spent a day with Alex and Alexis yesterday on the Bute Island trip. They both worked so hard to ensure that we had a really enjoyable day. We had travelled from Australia in the hope of seeing bears in the wild We not only saw bears but also orkas, dolphins, humpback whales and sea lions.Written 16 October 2024
- P2948YLmegand0 contributionsHighly recommendSuch an incredible experience. Dream come true to see the Grizzly Bears. Thank you so much Alex for taking us to see Orcas and Dolphins as well. Highly recommend this tour!Written 16 October 2024
- KBHeb0 contributionsA fun dayWe went on the Toba Inlet grizzly bear tour this fall and had a great time with a good group. The boat ride was through some spectacular scenery - lots of waterfalls after the rain! The day was well organized and the crew were great. We were lucky enough to see a very hefty grizzly eating salmon and a humpback whale surfacing. I highly recommend the tour.Written 15 October 2024
- helenlN4049VX0 contributionsWhale watching 4 hour trip 👌A 40th birthday treat and what a day we had. Perfect weather and a flat calm day, we hadn't been 10 minutes before seeing our first humpy! We went on to see more humpbacks, dolphins, porpoise and sea lions. Just as the trip couldn't get any better our skipper got word of Orcas in the area. Steven went above and beyond to get back to see them. It was absolutely magical to see two male orcas cruising along. Thanks for a great trip!Written 14 October 2024
- V9485CRlw0 contributionsBreath-taking!The tour we went on was in a covered boat. Our captain/tour guide was great fun and very knowledgeable. We spotted two humpback whales and went quite close to where they were. They were breaching, tail slapping and rolling around. It was breath-taking! We watched them for ages before moving on to another pair who were also breaching. One of the whales came so close to the boat - I could see the barnacles on its back! We went and saw some seals and were heading back when we found two more whales who were breaching and tail slapping. There were also several more whales who were further away from us that were also breaching. The whole experience is difficult to put into words, it was magical. Our guide said in ten years of doing the tours he had never seen so many whales breaching! If you get chance to do this tour I would highly recommend it. There are other companies but many of them have very large boats which have lots of people on them. We were able to chat to our guide who was able to teach us about the whales and answer all our questions. Thank you Campbell River Whale Watching for giving us a once in a lifetime experience which we will never forget!Written 10 October 2024
- Dex22jin0 contributionsSaw abundance of wildlife. Worth going for the scenery aloneThe scenery spectacular. Tour guide very knowledgeable. Highly recommended this tour. Saw wildlife including whales and seals Just a fabulous 4 hours viewing areas you’d never see by car or trekkingWritten 9 October 2024
- Indulge19530 contributionsGreat Day, Great PeopleOur first nations guides and drivers provided an experience closely aligned with our values regarding land management, care for wildlife and safe travel. Our contribution to sequestering carbon was a positive event, shared by our boat guide and an initiative we wish all participants could have heard. We appreciated our guides’ positive post-trip summaries. At the end of a long (and wet) work day both shared the day’s adventures with us, a gentle reminder that travel experiences have far less to with weather, and more to do with meeting and supporting those who have a shared vision. Our driver and guide delivered a positive energy that was so necessary when weather impacts can’t be controlled. Our safety, onboard and off, was always a focus. We went with open minds and we were rewarded in so many ways.Written 8 October 2024
- Cruiser1337110 contributionsAMAZING whale watching tripThank you Jarek (and the whales!) for an amazing trip. We went to some beautiful places, and crossed paths first with some porpoises. We then travelled further and met pod T101! WOW! And they actually swam beside us at one stage which was unexpected, but epic. After that we went out to open water…more stunning scenery and about 10 humpbacks!! 4 were close enough to see them eating and hear them trumpeting (??). What a great day - weather was perfect too! And we saw 2 seals as we came into the docks! So happy with this experience!Written 6 October 2024
- anmolb9620 contributionsGreat experience! Our day of whale watching exceeded all our expectations! Jarek was a phenomenal guide and showed us all the spots. The highlights were definitely seeing the humpback whales. Our boat was very clean and comfortable. The views were awesome and Jarek’s liveliness, humor, and knowledge made the day a true 10/10!Written 6 October 2024
- 752westie0 contributionsBrilliant day out - take warm clothingThis is our second trip with these guys. Absolutely brilliant day with Alex and Lexie to Orford. On the way we saw humpback and killer whales. At Orford we saw 8 bears (down on the 17 we saw 5 years ago but still amazing) including some very close swimming and looking for salmon. On the way back we saw killers and dolphins which we stopped to observe. We were late back but who cares when you see so many beautiful creatures. At this time of year it can be cold so take warm clothing.Written 5 October 2024
- fatherj0hnh0 contributionsCould not have asked for more. This was an excellent tour. On the transit to and from the viewing area, the boat captain Alex and Lexi, the guide, were able to show us a pod of humped back whales, three separate pods of Orcas, a pod of over a hundred Pacific white-sided dolphins, and sea lions. While at the viewing area Michael and Buck showed us multiple grizzly bears with one sighting of a sow and cub where the sow caught a salmon out of the river and fed it to the cub. There were multiple other sightings of grizzly bears from different towers. One grizzly bear passed within 2 meters of the tower along the river bed. It was a fantastic experience. We also watch a Bald Eagle eating a fish.Written 4 October 2024
- martstre0 contributionsGrizzlies and Orcas on the same tour. WOW!Our boat captain Alex and tour guide Lexi were fabulous. They definitely had the guest experience in mind and worked with other tour operators to make sure we had the best tour. The Homalco First Nations guides, Michael and Gary, know their stuff. The information on the tour was very informative and the viewing towers and land sightings of grizzlies were first class. We watched salmon being caught and even had a momma grizzly and two cubs wandering around under one of our viewing platforms.Written 3 October 2024
- Pioneer060629344350 contributionsWhale watching trip exceeded expectationsWe had an incredible experience today on the 6 hour whale watching boat trip. Not only did we see orca and humpback whales but we also saw bald eagles, seals and sea lions playing and fishing for salmon. Then, if it couldn’t get any better we saw a pod of around 100 dolphins who swam all around our boat, playing and jumping out of the water. It was absolutely incredible. Our captain, Bex was amazing. She was so knowledgable and friendly and took time to describe and give information about the animals we encountered and the local indigenous culture. All in all, a 10/10 experience which exceeded our expectations.Written 3 October 2024
- Roadie-Rick0 contributionsBucket list item...✔️We had an amazing day on our Grizzly Bear Tour to Bute Inlet. Team Alexi (Alex and Lexi) were extremely knowledgeable about the area we travelled and the wildlife that we saw. They went out of their way to ensure that we had an opportunity to encounter wildlife along the way. We saw 3 pods of orcas and stellar sea lions on our travels up to Orford Bay. There, we were met by Michael and Gary, 2 members of the Homalco first nation, who bused us to several viewing platforms where we safely observed grizzlies. Michael shared his wealth of knowledge about the bears in the area. The highlight of the tour being our last stop where a mother and her two cubs wandered around our platform scouring the bushes for something to eat before lumbering off across the river. We travelled up and back on the T3 boat which was heated and spacious for the size of our group. The snacks and catered lunch that they provided were fresh and tasty. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone wishing to see wildlife in this wonderful part of the world.Written 3 October 2024

While many will say their favorite part was spotting four Humpback whales and a beautiful grouping of Sea Lions, my favorite part was our guide Tye. His knowledge of the area, its history, conservation efforts was at the Doctorate level shared in layman language. Ty or Tye, is what made the trip beyond special, memorable, educational, a true positive experience. An amazing experience from start to finish...

Super fun day, so many wonderful sightings (including a black bear eating a jellyfish!) and lots of interesting information shared by our guide, Brad. Our 6-hour tour was actually cancelled as there weren’t enough sign-ups, so we were upgraded to the 8-hour tour for no extra charge, which was a nice touch. 10/10 would come back again on another of their tours.

Ethan was an excellent driver, knowledgable about the wildlife and respectful. He knew how to handle the rapids and also drove at a speed where the dolphins came to play in the wake of the boat. I felt I was in a David Attenborough show! 6 hour tour was great as it gives you enough time to get that extra distance. We were so fortunate to see whales, bears, dolphins eagle feeding area. Thank you for a fantastic day in beautiful BC.

I really want to give them a positive review but we feel very taken advantage of. We have reached out to complain but haven't heard back - which is very disappointing.
Our goal was to see Whales and Bears on this trip. We were going to take the 4 hour Whale and Wildlife Tour but called beforehand as we had questions. The man on the phone insisted that book the longer tour (6 or 8 hour) as that was the best way to see as many animals as possible. We only wanted the 4 hour tour but we were convinced by him to take the 6 hour (more expensive) tour. For 6 hours it was just Whale Watching (as the name says), no other animals. We were SO disappointed that we paid EXTRA money for something we didn't even want - but that's what they told us to do.
It was suppose to be the highlight of our trip! We were so disheartened by it, seeing as we spent so much money coming from the states just to get to Campbell River.

Thank you for your feedback, I did try to reach you directly by email and I had responded to your google review as well. We're sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. While our guides do their best to provide a comprehensive wildlife experience by choosing routes based on recent sightings, we understand your disappointment in not seeing more variety. Unfortunately, no bears were spotted by any tours the day before your tour and on the day of, therefore our guide prioritized whale watching, which was the most promising option at the time. We sincerely apologize for any miscommunication and appreciate your input, which helps us improve our tours. If you are ever in the area again, we would love to offer you a discount on another tour in the hopes we can find a bear. However, wild animals do as they please and can be unpredictable. Please feel free to contact me directly at bri@crww.ca

Our adventure on Campbell River whale watching was magical! We saw so many whales. We got extra time on the water. It was unbelievable. We saw orcas - two different species. Humpback whales that were absolutely amazing and frisky in the water. I have never seen so many pectoral and tail splashing in my life! Our guide Jerick was phenomenal very knowledgable very conservational minded and had the animals best interest at heart. But we still managed to get amazing pictures and have the most phenomenal experience.

Campbell River Whale Watching did a great job with the tour. Very friendly and knowledgeable people, especially the boat pilot/guide Quinn. The covered boat had very comfortable seats with the option to sit or stand outside. A tasty lunch was provided as were drinks and snacks. The tour was flexible to be sure to see whatever wildlife was around at the time: humpback whales, porpoises, dolphins….great experience.

Fantastic tour! Weather was perfect and we saw lots of wildlife: porpoise, Pacific white sided dolphins, seals, sea lions, eagles and of course 4 humpback whales. Even if we hadn't seen the whales, it was great just to be on the water. Our guide Brad was very knowledgeable and attentive. Even the packed lunch was delicious.
I think we will go again next year!

Would give a 0.5 if possible. Had a sad experience. I understand nature is not guaranteed but on a 7.5 hour trip we had 10 minutes of wildlife. Saw no bears, no orcas, no birds except a couple of seagulls. We saw a humpback flip his tail once. We saw 3 Dalls Porpoises for 5 minutes. The guide was very nice but the trip was extremely disappointing. Came from Australia after looking at reviews. Wanted desperately to see Orcas. We spent most of the time listening about how rain was a problem, and the tides being an issue. I know there is a waiver about nature being unpredictable,
but would have been good for tour to use local knowledge and partnerships to find some wildlife. Massive disappointment. The tour is called Whale Watching and Wildlife. We didn't see it. I got sick of looking at water and trees.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your trip didn’t meet your expectations, especially after traveling all the way from Australia with hopes of seeing our incredible local wildlife. We understand how disappointing it can be when nature doesn’t cooperate, despite our best efforts to make each tour memorable.
Our guides are passionate about providing an informative and enjoyable experience, but we know that not seeing the wildlife you were hoping for can overshadow that. While we do our best to utilize local knowledge and partnerships, nature's unpredictability is something we all have to contend with, and unfortunately, we can't guarantee sightings. On the day of your tour, we experienced unseasonably wet weather, which unfortunately impacted wildlife activity. We did our best to make the most of the conditions by extending the tour by an hour and a half, hoping to increase your chances of sightings. Additionally, we coordinated with a network of other boats and our own operators, including three other tours on the water that day, to maximize opportunities for wildlife encounters.
We’re glad to hear you found the guide pleasant, but we’re sorry that the unpredictable nature of wildlife left you disappointed. Your feedback is important to us, and we’ll continue working to enhance our tours. Safe travels and thank you for your understanding.

This trip was worth every penny. We based our trip to Campbell river around our plan to join this tour and it did not disappoint. As well as seeing breathtaking coastline, bald eagles, impressive houses, sea lions and having a delicious lunch, we were wowed with multiple whale sightings.
Our fantastic guide Jack knew so much about the area and was proud to share it all with us. When we approached the whales, he gave them a safe distance, and we got breathtaking views of them playing, diving and breaching.
Memories to last a life time.
Thank you.
The boat was safe, clean and confortable, and there was even a toilet on board. The lunch provided was fresh and delicious, and catered well to my daughter’s allergies.

This trip was brilliant. Saw orcas, humpbacks, sea lions, seals and eagles. Zoe, the guide was very knowledgeable and carefully kept well away from all the whales and orcas. She was fun too and knew where to find all the wildlife. Lunch, off boat, on Stewart Island was great too.
