Dangerous Trip. Do not go when the weather is bad
Dangerous trip. We went 1st week of Jan on a rainy Sunday and the weather took a turn for the worse as we went much further to find the whales. Tyler did a good job of getting us out but this was a rough trip with lot of worried people. Once we got out of the boat we were in pain due to waves hitting us. This trip should have been cancelled. Many times it felt that we would sink or break our necks navigating out of those waters. We got lucky to escape without something really bad happening. I do recommend using the service but only when the weather is good. We did see a lot of whales and we liked Tyler

      Great tour
Our guide, Tyler did a great job handling the Zodiac and communicating with us while doing it. He was able to show us and tell us interesting facts about orcas, seals, and sea lions. He was funny and informative. The tour was easy to set up and they answered our many questions with a lot of patience. Highly recommend

      Great team on the boat
Check-in was fast and painless. We were boarded efficiently and with good humour. Liam, Tyler and Brad were great hosts. Liam is a recent marine biologist graduate and so was able to add a unique and sympathetic perspective to the local whale-watching industry. Both he and Tyler peppered the tour with interesting facts about the local fauna and flora. Although he was captaining the boat, Brad was also great at shouting out to those inside, where the next sighting was likely to be. We saw lots of activity from humpback whales and it was helpful that Liam takes pictures on the tour to be shared with the group later. This meant we could watch these magnificent creatures with our own eyes rather than through a lens. We went out in blue sky, encountered fog on the trip but still had some spectacular sightings including a variety of seals and sea lions. We were looked after by a great team and would not hesitate to recommend this company and tour!

      Fantastic Whale Watching!
We had a fantastic whale watching trip with Orca Spirit! Emma & Ryan are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable which really added to the trip. We saw SO many whales - tales and even breaching! It was beautiful :) Highly recommend Orca Spirit - this was my second trip and I would choose them again next time I'm in Victoria.

      A Must Do!
The day was beautiful for so many ways. The weather, the city and most of all Bill-our captain, Ryan and Liam. Ryan is so knowledgeable about the whales. He has had so many interactions with them, that he understands their movements and actions. Great job by all of you!!

      Incredible experience.
An incredible trip. We spent two hours in the midst of multiple pods of whales, several breaching around the boat. Stellar sea lions up close and noisy on our way back to harbour. Great crew, Liam, Kristen and Bill, very educational, highly recommend.

      Exciting and Fun
What an awesome experience. The tour was filled with great information, and the crew did everything they could to help us see as much marine life as possible. We lucked out...Humpbacks galore :) The tour was safe and so much fun. We met people from so many places around the world. This was our second tour with this company, and saw orcas and humpbacks September 2023. Will be back again.

      Bucket list trip!
Our whale watching trip was incredible! Our guides Briar and Liam were very knowledgeable. Seeing orcas in the wild has been a dream of mine for a long time and share the experience with my 13yr old daughter was so special. Added bonus of being able to download Briar’s photos for free after the trip.

      Brilliant experience
Brilliant afternoon whale watching, dream come true experience. Booked at tourist information office in Victoria. All the crew are very knowledgeable about the whales and sea lions that we saw. Everyone has plenty of time to get plenty of pictures, as not high season plenty of space to move around. Would put it on must do list for anyone spending a few days on Vancouver Island

Zodiac whale watching is the way to do it!
Mick, our captain was great, he had a lot of interesting information to share and was able to show us a lot of wild life including sea otter, sea lions, seal, bald eagles and so many humpbacks!!! including a mother and calf! The seal lion flinging the octopus into the air before his meal was terrific! I have been on whale watching tours before but never by zodiac, the zodiac was my favourite by far, its a nimble way to get around quickly and feels great to be so close to the water! Thank you for a great afternoon!

Whenever I go somewhere near the ocean I try to get in a whale watching tour. I know these aren't always successful but we had great success at the very beginning to find a pod of 7 orca whales! A driver from another company warned our driver so we were quite early before other boats got there, but once it did get crowded our captain, Mick, did a wonderful job moving us around as the whales moved to keep a prime view, while respecting the space he is required to give the whales. We were lucky enough at one point that 2 member of the pod swam right infront of our zodiak. We could have spent hours there, but Mick wanted to try and find other whales so we were off, we didn't see other whales but eventually went back to the same area as previously to see the sea lions and seals when the whales were out of the protected area. Mick was very knowledgeable, friendly and humble, and clearly cared to provide a great experience while following proper protocols; a great captain overall!

Props as well to the check-in staff who explained protocols well and gave a good health and safety overview. Due to the speed of a zodiak I would highly recommend doing a tour on one of these boats since you can get around faster, but not advised if you have back or neck pain.

We booked the beginning of November and they told us they had seen a few whales over the last week. We couldn't go out for 2 days due to weather. The office staff is super friendly and helpful!! Along comes Friday (Nov 6) , the weather is beautiful! Matt and Alex take us out. AMAZING!! Within 15 min we're watching orcas, including the (recently) famous T'luk, look him up!! Really cool!! As we were all admiring the orcas, Matt noticed humpback whale blows. Off we went and watched a humpback whale spout many times including showing its full tail twice!! Amazing!! After that we went to see harbour seals, California seal lions and Stellar sea lions. All wonderful and amazing!! What a great day!! Thank you Matt!!!

Being February in Canada I knew it would be cold but didn’t expect the trip to be sunny and flat! We could not have asked for better winter ocean conditions. I can imagine though that even on the warmest day when travelling at speed on the Zodiac it would still get chilly - definitely prepare to be a bit cold! That being said, the cold did not make the trip unenjoyable at all. Just more authentically Canadian 😉

Our captain, Eddie, did a fantastic job. He was thorough in his explanations of where we were, what we were looking for and about the wildlife around us. This included eagles, kelp, seals, sea lions and the cool lighthouse to the south of Victoria. I can imagine all the Orca Spirit guides are just as enthusiastic and outgoing as Ed, but as he was our only experience with captains, we recommend asking for Ed to skipper your trip if you have a choice!!

As for the wildlife, unfortunately there was no whales today. That being said, we understand that humpbacks are migrating this time of year, that Tranisent Orca, while abundant, can travel HUGE distances in day and sometimes are just not in the area, and that Southern Residents are having a really hard time with only 71 left. So heartbreaking. Key thing to keep in mind with these trips is that it is wildlife, and they are here with us, and not for us! It would be great to see whales every trip but that is just not feasible. The scenery and other wildlife including the seals and sea lions are fantastic and very lively! The stinky sea lions were definitely one of the best parts of our trip to Victoria.

Remember to keep your expectations in check, and have fun in the moment!

Thank you again Captain Eddie, Rebeca and the entire Orca Spirit crew for being so entirely fun and fantastic.

Overall, we would recommend that this trip definitely deserves more than 5 stars!

We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your winter wildlife zodiac tour and that Captain Ed made this experience a memorable one. We have an exceptionally passionate team, so we are happy that you mentioned him. I will pass this along for him to read! Book it!! This company went above and beyond for our small group. We came from a cruise line and after docking, we weren't able to get off the boat for almost 2 hours later. They let us go at a later time and sent someone straight to the dock to pick us up, instead of us having to meet at the storefront. They didn't have to do that, but it was amazing of them that they did!

Matias was an EXCELLENT tour guide. He made sure everyone was having a great time, took us to see sea lions and seals, and made sure we got to see some whales. Unfortunately, we didn’t see much of the whale (just the back and tail, but that was no one’s fault. He made sure everyone had gotten their pictures when we stopped before taking off again, had tons of knowledge of the animals and their habits. It was one of the best tours we had! I'll def be back again.

Word of advice, they do provide thick coverall-type jumpsuit to wear, but if you are going when the weather is going to be cold, bring gloves and a warm beanie. A mask/scarf that covers your mouth would be great too if it's raining, otherwise the rain does sting a little but it's bearable.

Went out on Kodiak this morning and was fortunate enough to have Sarah as our skipper! She was very knowledgeable, infectiously enthusiastic, and showed us an exceptional time. We were able to see a vast array of marine life, including otters, seals, porpoises, and a lone killer whale, while also seeing an enormous cormorant nesting site.

Having lived in Victoria for 4 and a half years, it becomes difficult to find things that I have not done before and even day trips or outings can become repetitive. This however was truly a unique and special experience that reminded us how fortunate we are to live in such a special location. The price was worth the experience a hundred times over, and we were ensured that if no whales were seen, we could come back at any time to go out again for no extra charge.

All in all, it was an excellent morning, and something my friends and I will cherish for a long time. Thank you to Orca Spirit Adventures and to Sarah for an excellent morning and a reminder of how special Vancouver island really is.

Amazing experience despite rough seas on the return trip! Loved being on the open water and our Captain - Aidan - not only handled the boat expertly, keeping our ride as comfortable as possible, but was obvious very knowledgeable about the marine life we encountered. It was a priviledge to be in the Orca's habitat and Aidan gave us an extra 10 minutes which really made a difference as we got to be closer without the other boats around. The return trip took longer than expected as the seas were rolling and the winds were quite strong but at no point did we feel unsafe. The dock where Orca Spirit is located is easy to find and a good spot to grab a beer and food after your tour too! We had a great adventure and would highly recommend Orca Spirit.

An amazing morning out on the water with Captain Jordan! We saw harbour porpoises, two transient orcas, a humpback whale and of course the sea lions! Jordan was extremely professional, knowledgeable and personable. He kept us informed of the sights that we saw and what the plan was next. It was also great to see the different whale watching companies work together to find the whales, so that the customer got to have the best experience! Would recommend to anyone visiting Victoria!! Fabulous experience, and would 1000% do it again. Would recommend going in the 9am time slot before the waters get busy, and seems to be when the whales are pretty active (searching/hunting for breakfast).

My wife and I booked a whale tour which there was some uncertainty about the day before due to bad weather conditions. Marnie provided excellent customer service by informing us of the weather conditions well in advance and being very understanding and helpful as we unfortunately decided to cancel. They were nothing but helpful and kind, hopefully we’ll be able to use this company for a tour in the future!

We did the Zodiac tour today with Jordan and wanted to share feedback about how amazing the trip was.

I've been waiting my whole life to see Killer Whales in the wild and today that bucket list item has been ticked off.

Although the sea conditions weren't great (the trip after ours needed to be cancelled) we had such a great time. We chose to sit at the back as I'm a little uneasy when on the water but Jordan made me feel comfortable straight away as he explained the safety features of our wetsuits and the boat before we set off.

The ride in the boat itself was really fun, it was like a jet ski experience just slightly bigger with beautiful surroundings.

We spotted a pod of seven transatlantic orcas, sea lions and seals. Jordan was great about giving us information about the animals, constantly on the look out and telling us where to look and also gave us information about local area and surroundings.

If you're looking for a fun way to view the whales when staying in Vancouver Island I'd highly recommend Orca Spirit. They do also have covered vessels if you'd prefer a larger boat.

    Thanks again 😊🐳🇨🇦

My partner and I took this trip on Canada day, and what a day it was. Our first encounter was with the girls in the office. They were very warm, personable and friendly. Offering lots of info and advise, sharing their experiences and asking us about our time in canada. We felt at ease immediately, esp given the current covid situ. We were then greeted by Mick our captain. It was noticable straight away that Mick had a passion for his job and more importantly the wildlife. He was very knowledgeable and wanted us to have fun. We went out on the open boat fully kitted out in our float suits and the ride itself was great fun, mick offered lots of local knowledge and interacted with us all. We got to see around 10 sightings of whales and Mick made sure he knew where we could find them. He was very respectful to the animals and made sure we weren't invading their home. We also felt that there was no rush, he was happy to stay out longer in order to see more and we cant speak highly enough of our experience. Weve already shared our experience with our friends and family and 10/10 would recommend.
