Fantastic Introduction to St. john’s
This was are first trip to Newfoundland and wanted to get a feel for where we were staying. The food tour had four stops with five food tastings. Our tour guide was Krista who does not normally host the tours, as a last minute replacement to William. She only had positive things to say about William so that is a good gauge for future tours.

There was ample time to meet our group for a sold out tour in September.

We visited a chocolate shop, a pub, a bakery and a tapas bar. All locally owned and very tasty. Between the first and second stop is much of the history. We came to the tour hungry and the second stop came just in time. The last couple stops are very close together so this is where you get tot fill up. Many people couldn’t finish their last dish.

The tour allows you to determine future stops, other restaurants, brews, shops, historical landmarks, and other points of interest.

Get the Great Newfoundland While You Can
We have been on food tours in three other cities and always like to learn about a new city based on its food scene. This tour was an enjoyable way for us to be introduced to St. John’s. Our guide was knowledgeable about St. John’s and did a good job interacting with the group and customizing the experience for all.

I would rate the overall quality of the food exposure to be average. You stop in a candy store, one stop gets cancelled so you double up at the next stop (this happens on most other tours I’ve been on as well), then the last couple of stops you have more time to talk to your fellow tourists. My overwhelming criticism of this tour is the guide doesn’t get any food! Given he is a college student this seems a crime! He did a very good job though at 22 you only have some much food, history, and cultural experience to share. I think leveraging local chefs to give more details on their restaurant would greatly enhance the ‘foodie’ part of this tour.

Overall though, I’d recommend this as a great way to start you tour of Newfoundland or St. John’s. You do get plenty to eat over the course of the tour. Don’t get to used to the quality of the food though, as soon as you leave St. John’s , Newfoundland is essentially a food desert, eat and enjoy for tomorrow you will be eating fish and chips!

Hi. Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your overall experience! For others that may read your review, I would like to clarify a couple of items. First, the first stop (and meeting place) is the home of Newfoundland Chocolate Company. I hope that anyone who visits this store will see much more than a candy store. Delicious homemade chocolate and gelato is a must stop for tourists and locals alike. Also, our guides have eaten all of the delicious samples you enjoyed while on your tour. Remember, they do this every week!! It’s kind of you to be concerned, but don’t worry, they are well taken care of!! Thank you again for visiting our province and taking our tour. We appreciate you!!

Great time

We had a great time with William. It was nice to learn about the city. The tour was great but it was also great to learn about places that weren't on the tour. William was a well of touristic and historic knowledge.

Good local food, chance to meet other travelers
Jul 2019 • Couples
I was a little worried because after the first hour of the tour we had only seen the chocolate shop and had two small but good candies. There’s more local history thrown in, and you learn the location of numerous eating establishments that you don’t actually get to sample, but by the end of the tour you *have* had some local dishes and are completely full. Even my tall and hungry husband came away satisfied. The best part is meeting fellow travelers and our guide Will was an exceptional young man with fabulous stories. I would have liked a little more tasting and less time sitting.

Highlight of St. John's
Jul 2019 • Couples
Excellent way to experience St. John's. This was my first time trying a walking food tour. Loved the experience of walking through the downtown area. Loved trying local dishes including cod's tongues, fish cakes and touten as well as hearing the stories. They accommodated food allergies well. Our guide, William was great too. Definitely a recommended experience!

Cancelled by company 4 days before departure
Jul 2019 • Couples
4 days prior to my wife and I leaving for a vacation to celebrate our 10 year anniversary we were contacted by Christa that all tour guides would be out of town and therefore our tour was cancelled. We booked over 2 months in advance so as to be sure we would have this experience. By canceling on such short notice it was difficult to find a replacement tour/experience that fit our schedule as we had made other bookings around this one. When I expressed my disappointment, Christa offered a full refund and a list of all the stops. I returned her e-mail and asked for the refund and the stops. She cancelled the booking but did not include the list of stops as offered and requested. Her only excuse was that it is a small company. Hopefully others have a better experience with this group than we did.

Hi there. While we are extremely sorry that the cancellation affected your plans we did our best to ensure you were fully refunded at the earliest possible date. We are indeed a small company and there are times when personal events override everything else. I received two emails from you after I had apologized and ensured you would be refunded. You attacked my character and ethics so at that point I paused from communicating because our tours, our people and our restaurants are filled with positive energy, love and respect for each other, not anger and judgment. We wish you a happy anniversary and, again, we sincerely apologize for any disruption.

St. John’s Walking Food Tour

Wonderful tour. Our guide was very friendly and offered lots of information about the restaurants and the St John’s area. Each stop offered very tasty food. We took in the Chocolate factory, Gypsy Tea Room for cod tongues, Rocket for excellent fish cakes and Boca for great paella. Our group mixed well lots of laughs and the 3 hours flew by. Well worth it.
