          Great driver and tour
It was a great place for a family to go. Kids enjoyed seeing craftsmen/women doing their trades from the old days. Unfortunately, my mother could not go because she is limited in walking and the trails are all gravel and would not support her wheelchair. She got to see some of the village from the hill where the bus driver dropped us and she got to go inside the very small museum. I think there are plans in the works to make the trail more handicapped friendly in the coming years. Overall, a great day!

          Great day!
The guide and driver were wonderful, with personal stories intermixed with history and pride in Cape Brenton! Got lucky with the fall colors and the did a great job adjusting the schedule and going farther while watching the time so that we were back with plenty of time to get back to the cruise ship

          Great Shore Excursion
We took this tour as a shore excursion from our cruise stop in Sydney, NS. Both sites, the Highland Village as well as the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, provided a nice snapshot of two historical elements of the region. Our guide was very informative and flexible in accommodating any requests. The one thing that anyone on this tour needs to be aware of is the fact that it takes on average 50 min between each stop incl. cruise port. So, there is a significant amount of driving which in our case allowed us to see much of the beautiful scenery in the fall.

Unparalleled scenery, friendly guide, a must see!
The views were amazing and we loved having a private tour for our group. Wished we had more time to do some hiking but there’s only so much you can do with limited time. I prefer more active excursions however if we did more we wouldn’t have seen so much. This is a place I’d like to return for several days of exploration. Our Guide was waiting for us when we got off the ship and returned us on time. No stress! He was informative and friendly, and made sure we saw the best highlights possible. It was a beautiful day and I recommend this company. PS - I booked this trip with a little trepidation due to the previous reviews stating that it wasn’t a reliable company. I did have a hard time reaching the company to confirm but once I contacted Viator to help me confirm they got it done within a few hours. They had several guides waiting for other ship passengers and I didn’t hear of any trouble. So whatever happened in the past to the previous reviewer is not the norm.

Luxury private excursion perfect for our group
I can’t say enough wonderful things about this tour and our guide, Kevin. We were met directly at our cruise ship and while the masses were herded into crowded buses and tight minivans, our group of 5 were comfortably seated in a Cadillac Escalade. Basically we were able to design a tour any way we wanted as the tour was private but we had great guidance on the best sites to visit, and before the larger tours arrived. We made many stops at some beautiful overlook views and Kevin took many photos of our group. He was so knowledgeable about Cape Breton and provided an excellent narration of the area and history and culture. You can tell that Kevin is very passionate about Cape Breton. He would give us options on where to eat based on budget and tastes. He was very mindful about ensuring we were back to our ship in time. We were lucky enough to see a very beautiful bald eagle pretty close up as we departed off a small ferry. We were on the lookout for moose but were not able to see any this time. At our request we stopped at a gondola ride to get an awesome view of the water and mountains. The leaves were just starting to change but not quite yet. We stopped for a nice lunch of local soup and sandwiches which was perfect as we did not want a sit down meal, although he was more than happy to bring us to one if we wanted. It really was a very memorable experience and was perfect for our group of 5. Thanks Kevin for a really luxurious personal excursion.

          Cabot Trail and Cape Breton.
We were met at our ship by a Viator representative and our guide, Tom. Tom was a delightful, earthy guy who was born and raised in the area. He showed us wonderful highlights but his knowledge of history, and explanations, such as rivers with obvious First Nation names, he simply stated, “The word doesn’t mean anything.” Also, it would have been nice for him to give us a choice up front, to dine at a lunch stop or have a longer excursion into Cape Breton…. The tour started at 8 am and went to about 3pm and did not include lunch. We may have expected a lunch stop that we would pay for but we purchased snacks at other stops and then spent an hour at the Keltic Lodge at the Highlands for a lunch break, but no one was hungry enough to order lunch…. In retrospect we would have preferred a more extensive drive.

Be forewarned if you choose this tour. It is marketed as a bus tour. It is NOT a bus tour! It is a passenger van!!! There were four adults in our group (paid $509.48 for this). In all there were 13 passengers plus the driver. We were crammed in there like sardines and we were in the back row and thus every time we stopped at an overlook or other place of interest, 12 people had to exit through the side of the van (one person sat in the front). This was uncomfortable to say the least ….all that hunching over and climbing in and out , under seatbelt shoulder straps etc. , and let’s not forget the jolt to our spines every time we hit a bump. It was like riding in a small boat when you hit the crest of a wave and then slam down. Maybe this is fine for teens and younger adults but if you’re expecting a small to medium bus where you have ample space and comfort then skip this tour!!! Additionally, the microphone that was used by the driver was very poor. It was hard to understand what he was saying. Regarding lunch……the driver asked the group if they preferred stopping at a restaurant or stopping at a place to get a lobster roll lunch. The consensus was lobster rolls. When we got to the place to get the lobster roll lunch, it turned out to be a convenience type/general store with a few premade sandwiches in the refrigerator case. There were only a few sandwiches (maybe 3lobster rolls snd 3 or 4 roast beef sandwiches). Thus many of us had a bag of chips and a coke for lunch. This could have been avoided had the driver called ahead to ask if they were prepared with 14 lobster rolls. I even heard the clerk mention this to the driver. The driver said there were no more restaurants on our way back/that we had passed them all at this time. However one of the others in our group spotted a restaurant after we left the store. The points of interest and stops were nice but the rest of the experience was not good. Rent a vehicle and do your own Cabot trail tour and you’ll have a much nicer time and save a lot of money too. I tried to reach the manager of this tour company by phone three times in the last 10 days to discuss our experience with the tour. I got voicemail every time and no return phone calls. They missed the opportunity to make things right and avoid such a negative review.

Hi Donna, we are sorry to here that you and your group didn't have a positive experience with us. As you could see the day your ship docked at the port of Sydney, there were another ship docking as well, that was the reason we got lots of bookings. Normally we would just arrange around 10 or 11 passengers on a 14 passenger vehicle to leave more space for our clients but unfortunately, that day we were almost fully booked. As for the lunch, because this is a shared tour we have no idea what clients would like to have for lunch so we cant make any reservation. However, if you booked the private tour (which we also have it listed here on Viator), we would definitely check with you ahead of the tour and prepare the option of the lunch you choose. As for the phone call, we do apologize that due to this is the hot season for us, we are usually super busy with all the tours we are operating and sometimes we might miss some calls. But we would always offer a calling back. There were a couple of numbers that when we call back, we could not reach it for some reason and we are sorry about that if you are one of them.

It is not a bus tour. It's a very crowded van. When we tried to talk to driver he just said this is what it is. There was not a stop for lunch. The driver urged us to wait till we got to a place that served the best lobster roll in the country. By the time we got to this small grocery, about 3pm there were only 2 rolls left for the 11 of us. There were a few other sandwiches but they were not very good. No place to eat but picnic table outside. None of this was explained. Driver could have called ahead per the cashier but he didn't. Also I think driver could have known the ferry was out before we reached it. That took us an hour out of our way and we lost seeing some sites. Passengers tried to urge driver/tour guide to talk a bit more about what we were seeing. He was a nice guy but not a good tour guide. We did get back to the cruise ship with time to spare. Think we stopped maybe 3 or 4 times counting the grocery. 10 am to about 4.

Hi Pat, sorry to hear that you didn't have a positive experience with our tour. As you might see that there were two ships docking at the port so every local tour operator were almost fully booked. We are not able to make any reservation for the lunch as this is a shared tour. We wont be able to know what our clients would like to have for lunch until we start the tour. Again we are sorry that you didn't like the trip, hope you enjoyed the rest of your cruise trip. Thank you!

Tour was advertised as a bus tour, however due to taking too many bookings the operator engaged a limousine & driver which was a totally unacceptable vehicle for distance driving & sightseeing, very claustrophobic indeed. Air con was not working so had to drive with windows down. No commentary as audio system was not working. After having travelled along way along the Cabot Trail we questioned the driver as to the tour locations we had booked for. Turns out he was briefed incorrectly!!!!! Hot footed to Baddeck & had just 10 minutes there for a toilet stop only & completely missed Iona. Company needs to ensure driver is adequately briefed of tour specifics.

The views are amazing and we loved it! Normally, they offer day tours to tourists coming from cruise ships. I didn't know that- I didn't come by cruise ships- and they were so nice to pick me up in nearby hotel. The van is new and very clean, making us really comfortable. The driver/guide knows the place well and took us to many spots to have beautiful pictures taken. Also, he told us some history and culture about the area, which is kind of unique. There were a couple coming from US who're also on this tour together and we had a great time.I will recommend the tour to my friends.

Of all of the tours we booked through TripAdvisor during our cruise, this was the only one that we were disappointed with. Our tour guide/driver was friendly and seemed to answer our questions best he could, but he did not provide details. While I understood lunch was not provided as part of the tour, I wrongly assumed we would stop for lunch since it was a 6 hour tour. We stopped at a great place for a quick snack early on, and I’m thankful I had a little something, but that was the only food stop the entire day. I wish our driver had explained that up front, and I would have purchased more food to take with us. The van was very uncomfortable and cramped and we felt every bump. We were all concerned about getting back to the cruise ship on time, which we did (with an hour to spare), but it would have been better for the driver to give us a defined amount of time at each stop along the way so that everyone in the group was back at the van ready to go rather than a couple passengers dilly dallying and making the stop so much longer than necessary. The drive was scenic but we learned very little about the area and by the end, wish we had not spent the amount of money and time that we did. Not fun, underwhelmed, hungry, exhausting, and a bit painful.

Tom was an excellent guide. He did his best to accommodate the change in departure time (earlier) of our cruise. He was fairly informative.
It was worth the drive to see the Cabot trail and the fall colours.

Sadly, this was my first real disappointment in booking something through TripAdvisor. The advertised excursion was for a bus that seats 14 people.
We had seen these buses...tall windows and comfortable seating. But instead we walked past those little busses and instead were ushered into a van with 14 seat belts...meaning that for the over 6 hour excursion, we were crowded like sardines. With such a large amount of "car time" we all wished we could learn more about the culture and history of the area, but were faced with a basically quiet ride with a few exceptions. No homework had been done by the tour company to see if their usual stops were even available, so we arrived at a ferry dock to find that the ferry was not running due to construction. This added a full hour to trip. We did not seem to have any sort of specific itinerary for the day (perhaps the guide was trying to stay flexible?), but our stops felt random and "unhosted." Example, " Here's a lookout - does anyone want to get out for a photo?" Stopping for lunch was a disaster...the eatery was out of food! So most of our group just had a bag of chips and a drink as their lunch. And believe me, by the time we hit hour #5, we all just wanted to get back. We did not trust our guide's time management, and at one point the group spoke up that we needed to start back or we might miss the ship. "Oh, really...when exactly does the ship leave?" was the reply. And then...perhaps finally realizing that this tour was not going to get good reviews, the guide said, "Before the ship, let me give you a quick tour around the city of Sydney." This made us all nervous about time, but ultimately was the best part of the tour. I could not help but wonder if our guide was primarily a tour bus driver who had been tapped to serve as a last-minute tour guide. It was not a good situation.

Hi there, thank you for your review! It was very interesting that when we did our investigation about this tour, our guide did remember who you are. We don't understand why you seemed to happy about this tour but ended up with such review back to us and even worse, not telling the truth. The tour guide we sent for your trip, Tom, he is one of our most experienced driver and guide and he would never be quiet during the trip and he would never ask question like "when exactly does the ship leave?". You also mentioned that you passed those buses with tall windows and comfortable seats and you were upset you didn't get on one of those. We believe there would be no such a company would send that motor coach with around 56 seats on it for a tour with a tour less than 14 people each charged 165 Canadian dollars tax in. It is very worrying when our ship is blocked by a hurricane and we try to contact the organization and try to move the trip forward, but we are so petty as to refer to the terms and conditions. One more reason not to consider this organization.

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
